@inthewoods23 Midwesterner here too. I'm with you on the 'ope'! However I disagree with the bubbler. I'm good with people calling it a bubbler or drinking fountain, but it is NOT a water fountain. I'm pretty sure most people outside of Wisconsin and it's borders don't know what cheese curds are either.
@inthewoods23@m6agua New Englanders say bubbler, too. Or at least Bostonians do. And I love cheese curds, but I also live pretty close to Canada. Mmmmm, poutine!

m6agua Actually, my dad was raised outside Smicksburg, PA (Western PA Amish country - Like Lancaster, but much smaller) and they make cheese next to the old family farm... so cheese curd is AMAZING... but super difficult to find where I live now.

@m6agua I am with @bows22 have NEVER heard bubbler before in my life. Water fountain it is. ...And I hold true to the idea that "everyone is right" in terms of dialect stuff like this! And I have been to Minnesota (my fam's storied history is actually very Minnesotean!) so I do *know* what cheese curds are and have had them--they actually have them on the menu at this beer garden downtown (I live in Louisiana) that serves mostly German-style food?
@shamrocandroll I feel like there are certain ppl in my life who can get away w/ making fun of me for my "wudder" pronunciation, but most of the time I am just like " YOU say it wrong! ::huffs::" haha.
@kagesstarshroom my parents and siblings all say wuhter. I switched over (eta: wahter) when someone pointed out how to pronounce Wawa. Remember wawa? 🙂 most of those who leave miss it terribly. I think it’s good for a hoagie, but I wouldn’t be too upset to leave it behind.
@chichiphin mh is as much from Pittsburgh as I am from Philly. We both grew up 45-60 minutes from the respective city in the suburbs. Neither of us care about sports. @m6agua mh went to a wedding up in wi before we met, and he KEPT raving about cheese curds. We found them on the menu (in philly) and ordered them. Good, but the squeak? quality is an adjustment for me.
@shamrocandroll it’s a restaurant that puts fries in salads and in sandwiches...perspective from an outsider to another outsider 😉
It doesn't bubble people! Therefore it can't be a bubbler! This is the hill I will die on!

Aw the royal baby looks so cute. Meghan looks amazing. I love that she and Kate have both worn dresses that show they still have a baby bump after birth...when Kate came out after George I remember people being like "wait whaaa?" Hello that's how women look right afterwards!! Also going on the record that I think his name will be James Philip Spencer, not that anyone asked, ok I should really get to work....
@whitealbum29: I'm from southern US and use "might could" as an answer about plans/tasks. "Want to meet for dinner later this week?" - "Oh, I might could do that! Let me check!"
Also - I tend to draw out the long "i" in words --- it almost becomes an "A" sound??? "iiiiiiaaaace" for ice, Spriiiiiiaaate for Sprite, etc. It gets worse when I'm drinking or talking to someone from my home town?
@b_1029 Riiiight! I am all for "Everyone's Dialect Is Right" & will die on that hill--BUT, as an outsider, cold drink could 100% apply to too many things! Beware the south, yall.
@begging4abump Wawa is not my fave, though the one near my Dad's in NJ usually has the cheapest gas! And okay fine I understand its appeal and its existence as like something charming from the area---but mostly, I miss water ice way way way more. Sno-balls are significantly inferior, and nothing nothing comes closer to water ice--except water ice. WUDDER ICE 4 LYFE.
Side note, bc I mistyped my hilarious spelling of "lyfe" as "lyft"--did yall know uber and lyft are striking today?
@kagesstarshroom I did not know that, but I do not live in an area where they are prevalent. They're not in a union, are they??? I didn't realize non-union workers can strike...

@bows22 You should be able to get one, but that's considered "crossing the picket line"--so if I were you, I'd try to get a "real" cab. But that's up to you!
@shamrocandroll HM... I think anyone can strike, they just aren't guaranteed the right to strike? Like, if you strike when you are in a union, you have protections? But let's say I organized a strike at the movie theater in Boston where I used to work (I used to joke about how we should all just leave lol ), we could have all been fired? I am not sure if Uber/Lyft are unionized.
@kagesstarshroom I just googled it, and apparently it's only in select cities? And apparently it's also being done strategically right before Uber goes public on Friday. Interesting! I know people who have driven for Uber/Lyft and often lost money on rides. I don't understand the logistics well enough to really have a strong opinion... I just know when we go on vacation to major cities, they come in very handy!

@lcking82 I fight on this with DH all the time. Bag he says I draw out the "a" so it's like bayyyoog. Essentially I think it comes down to using the short sound vs long sound
B-ay-g vs. b-ah-g
Same for wagon... Tag... Etc.
And don't get me started on which word should have the emphasis for green beans and hash browns. It's HASH brown apparently, not hash BROWNS. DH and his family bring this up all the time and it's just like really? You have nothing better to do in your lives than comment every. damn. time I say these particular words or combination of words? Stop mocking ugh!

Guys, I went to my new doctor yesterday (integrative/functional doc) and I LOVE HER. WOW. I basically word vomited my entire health history, feelings, and emotions and she sat there and nodded/listened. We had TWO hours together discussing everything/diving in. I am so happy. Finally, a doctor that doesn't look at me like I have 19 heads. We talked about my Hashimoto's and my TTC issue that I identified last cycle (short luteal phase and/or I ovulate too late). She changed my thyroid medication to fix my very low free T3 level (other thyroid levels ok) and said she has lots of patients coming off Levothyroxine to this drug I am on now and feel much better. She explained the "leaky gut" concept that I had a hard time understanding, and I am feeling confident about finally putting this Hashimoto's into remission. We also talked about the short luteal phase and explained to me about the different types of estrogen (I had no idea) and about estrogen dominance. She said I should think about doing the Dutch Test Complete (test that checks out a bunch of hormones via dried urine sample). She also started me on DIM-Evail for my cycles and probiotic for leaky gut. I am happy. Since being diagnosed with Hashimoto's nearly 2 years ago I have been wading through all the info so confused/in the dark.

Again, super delayed here with all the responses in between, but meh, I’m doing it. @kagesstarshroom mh complains about the name “water ice” as often as we see signs for it. I can’t defend the name at all. I rarely desire it, but maybe crushed up popsicles would be a better substitute than sno-balls. As a kid, I was taught that the GOOD Italian ice was either lemon or cherry (with chunks of the corresponding fruit in it).
also, I like @b_1029’s idea. I’m totally down for a gtky thread with the unique phrases or foods for everyone’s region.
Sorry for dwelling so much on pa! I promise I’ll stop. Please resume Uber/lyft and sorry for the interruption.

Also - I tend to draw out the long "i" in words --- it almost becomes an "A" sound??? "iiiiiiaaaace" for ice, Spriiiiiiaaate for Sprite, etc. It gets worse when I'm drinking or talking to someone from my home town?
@begging4abump Wawa is not my fave, though the one near my Dad's in NJ usually has the cheapest gas! And okay fine I understand its appeal and its existence as like something charming from the area---but mostly, I miss water ice way way way more. Sno-balls are significantly inferior, and nothing nothing comes closer to water ice--except water ice. WUDDER ICE 4 LYFE.
Side note, bc I mistyped my hilarious spelling of "lyfe" as "lyft"--did yall know uber and lyft are striking today?

@shamrocandroll HM... I think anyone can strike, they just aren't guaranteed the right to strike? Like, if you strike when you are in a union, you have protections? But let's say I organized a strike at the movie theater in Boston where I used to work (I used to joke about how we should all just leave lol ), we could have all been fired? I am not sure if Uber/Lyft are unionized.

B-ay-g vs.
