@eatinwatermelonseeds@DuchessOfCambridge my hospital offers waterbirths and birth center rooms, thanks to the research I literally just did because now I’m super curious. The birthing center rooms have a birthing tub in the room, as well, so I can have that option. Again, baby has to play along and I’d have to be cool with no epidural, which I am right now. I had always leaned towards water births, even as a teenager, as my go to option and now that it’s possible, I’m really excited about it hopefully becoming a reality!
@thebobloblaw well, they tend to call L&D a family birth center or something of the like. What I'm thinking of is a house with designated bedrooms, they have large beds. Oh, so, I put it into Google and it popped up "birthing center" so I said it wrong... Sorry. Let me find a picture of the one I'm considering.
I did not have an unmedicated birth with my son. I progressed very quickly and literally had no idea what I was getting myself into. I feel better prepared this time and I am pretty sure this one will be even faster and an epidural may not even be an option. So, I want to completely prepare myself. Last time I was very wishy washy "eh, I'll get an epidural if I need it, it's whatever" this one I know I need to resolve not to if that's what I decide and prepare to follow through with that. I know anything can happen, so I'll likely always be open to necessary changes to my plan, but I will most definitely get an epidural if I'm not adamant about not getting one lol.
@eatinwatermelonseeds ahh gotcha. I feel so unaware of all the different options and routes you can take. My birth center just seemed so open to a lot of stuff and I loved the doctors so I never really looked into anything any further.
@mrskoz428 I hope my story didn’t seem like I was making fun of it, because that wasn’t my intention. My moms story telling is so dramatic and funny to me, it probably didn’t translate right. I think everyone deserves a shot at birth the way they want it, and props to you for researching it early.
@thebobloblaw oh, heavens no! I didn’t take it that way at all! I had shit everywhere before I was born and my mom had a super messy birth because of it. Oops! Anything can happen but knowing I have the option to be at a hospital in case something goes wrong but in a birthing room that gives me the option to labor and/or delivering water is really appealing and exciting to me! I may even mention this at my next appointment, just to place the bug in my CNMs ear.
I wanted to try for a med-free birth with DD, but was open to whatever as long as we both survived (I can be quite pragmatic, apparently.) Then I labored for a million years with no rest between contractions, and had a baby in the morning after no sleep who didn't want to sleep that night either. I'm toying with the idea of a planned epidural at 9:00 pm with this one, so I can get a good night's sleep this time around! I'm half kidding, I know this one will do her own thing, but I can dream.
Ideally, I’d like to labor as long as I can with no meds, but I’ll probably fold like a napkin once the contractions get strong and ask for the epidural.
H surprised me with a Snoogle and cover tonight and I can’t wait to use it!! I loved it so much last time.

Me: 32 │ DH: 35 Married 8/16/13 BFP#1 DS 11/13/16 BFP# 2 MMC dx @ 13w 10/30/18 BFP# 3 Preemie DD born at 38w (IUGR) on 8/28/19 weighing 5.5lbs. Our little miracle
@liliumstargazer13 every birth is different, but getting the epidural was what put my body in motion. I was induced though and sitting at 3cm with no progression for hours with horrible contractions. Got epidural, took a (glorious, much needed) nap, woke up and she was ready to arrive! My “plan” was to not get a epidural too soon in fear it would stop progression. Life is ironic.
@thebobloblaw my birth story with DD is very similar. FWIW, for anyone curious, DH is an anesthesiologist. There’s no proven link between epidurals and a slower labor. It’s a myth that has actually been disproven in studies but alas. He’s very passionate about this fact haha so when my OB tried to talk me out of getting one early, that didn’t go over well. I got an epidural a few hours after my water broke at home, slept for several hours at the hospital and woke up ready to go. Of course the “ready to go” part wasn’t as cut and dry but getting sleep was huge. Not giving advice as everyone’s journey is different but if you’re considering just jumping right in with the epidural, wanted to share my experience.
I'm only considering unmedicated because of how quick and intense my labor was. My first two contractions were 4 minutes apart and awful. By the time we got to the hospital 45 minutes minutes later they were a minute apart and I was vomiting. It was just a lot. I was unprepared for that. It was not a long, progressive thing. It was just bam. I'm honestly afraid this one might be born in the car. So, I'm just trying to prepare myself for unmedicated. And I feel as though it would've gone quicker without the epidural. I went from a 4 to a 10 in an hour and a half but had to wait to push for 3 hours and then that took an hour and a half. I think without the epidural my body would've expelled him out much sooner lol. I felt my body pushing him down bbeforethe epidural, I was just in so much pain I couldn't imagine going a minute longer without drugs.
@bluesky24 that’s really good to know, thank you for sharing.
I was so unprepared for a the vomiting in labor. It was constant. I was sooo grateful when the nurse gave me Zofran through an IV but also was like wtf took you so long 😂
I had come to peace with most likely needing a repeat csection but I’m a little bummed I won’t get the excitement of “when is it going to happen? Is this it? Omg it is!” I loved that with DS. But then I bounce back to who tf cares as long as this baby gets out unscathed.
Maybe we should have a labor hopes and fears thread 😆
@DuchessOfCambridge totally understand. I think I mentioned on another thread that my best friend had a planned induction with her second and she thought she’d be the same way, but it helped her peace of mind and she was super prepared. Not exactly the same as RCS but similar. And yes- we’ve taken this thread over with labor talk! Hope we haven’t scared any of the FTMs too much
@DuchessOfCambridge my rcs wasn’t scheduled until 39 weeks but I went into labour at 37 weeks so we still got the excitement of not knowing the exact day. Lol honestly the one thing I was looking forward to with an rcs was knowing exactly when and being able to make it so I had a good night sleep the night before. Instead my Labor started at 10 pm and after 2 attempts to stop it ds2 was born via csection at 2:18 am. So much for the good night sleep lol.
I’m literally nervous this next kid might be born in the car. With DD2, my water broke and when I arrived at the hospital, about two and half hours later I was already at 10 centimeters. I had to wait about ten min for DH to arrive, he had been out of town for work. I pushed one time and she was born. My doula joked I should have a home birth if I ever had a third. I kind of think she was partially serious.

Dreams can be so weird. Last week I dreamt we had a little baby girl and left her in the car and then realized temperatures had dropped under zero and hadn’t fed hair and francfically kept trying to get to her. So freaky, I woke up so stressed
@Stormiewinter mine was the same. I had very early labor starting in the afternoon while I was at work but nothing that wouldn’t let me finish out the work day. I started timing at 8:30 pm that night, labored all through the next day, and DS was finally born after midnight the third day. So. Tired. It would be a huge perk of a rcs to be able to get a full night’s rest beforehand.
@robyn2201 a woman in my first BMB DID give birth in her car!
I don’t know how your birthing classes were, but the one we went to made it seem like I would labor 12-24 hours at home before it would be time to go to the hospital. My labor started at 3:30 am and by 6:30 they were 1-2 minutes apart. I had let DH keep sleeping and had to wake him up and tell him we had to go right then. No one believed me when I got to the hospital and they left me alone In the room for 30 minutes. When they finally checked me I was 5 cm dilated and was able to get the epidural right away. Things slowed down from there.
@robyn2201 I have the same fear this time as well. I was induced with DS but my active labour only ended up being 4.5 hours and I only pushed for about 20 minutes. Our hospital is 45 minutes away so at my 6 week PP appointment my doctor told me if my water breaks at home next time not to hesitate to call 911. I feel like that is a little extreme but I dont want to have a baby in the car without any doctors/medical professionals! He was also unexpectedly 9lbs 13oz so I'm terrified of having another ginormous baby.
I was induced at 11p bc my BP was 150/90 and given Ambien and some pain meds. Got to sleep a while. Got an epidural at about 5am and they broke my water. Fun fact: that has 3 layers and only the first 2 ruptured. So they didn’t finish breaking my water until about 2pm the next day. After 21 hours of labor I was only at 1cm so I choose to have a CS. When the doctor delivered him he said oh this baby was never coming out. His head was wedged against my cervix. My recovery wasn’t that bad. I took the pain meds and stayed off my feet. That was easy with one kid so I’m not sure about recovery with a 15 month old but DH gets 2 weeks paternity leave so we’re going CS again.
Any induction mamas with 2+ kids notice a difference from the first induction compared to the second one? I have to be induced at 38 weeks due to high bp, and granted it was my first time, but it seemed to take forever with DS. I hadn’t dilated at all, so I’m sure that had a lot to do with it, but I’m hoping it may go a little quicker this time. We went in at 11pm Sunday night to start with cervadil (I think), and he was born at 7:41pm Monday night. That’s a long time to stay in bed with nothing to eat or drink but ice chips! 😂 I’m curious to see if anyone else has to be induced and their experience with it the second time around.
@chloe97 I expected to have hours to labor at home as well, but my early labor was identical to my Braxton Hicks (which were always painful) that I'd been having daily for months by that point. I didn't get an inkling I was finally actually in labor until about 7:30pm. We went to bed around 9 to try to get some rest, and active labor kicked in at 11:30 at 4 minutes apart. We didn't even wait to go to the hospital, just went straight there since it was about 45 minutes away. They always say to wait to go in until your contractions are 5 minutes apart, 1 minute long, for 1 hour but mine were never 5 minutes apart and they were only 4 minutes apart for about 15 minutes before escalating very quickly. I don't know, I expected it to be different. But maybe realistically mine was similar to how it was supposed to be in the beginning I just thought I was still having bh 🤷
I feel like I missed such good conversation last night/this morning! I can't add much to the c-section/induction conversation - and we live less than 5 minutes from the hospital, so it's pretty unlikely that I would give birth in the car if we end up with a hospital birth! - but someone mentioned having a thread for labour/delivery hopes and fears, which I think would be awesome.
I have 2 schools that I provide library services too. @megsb615 I can’t believe they didn’t let you eat at all. I was on a “labor menu” which was basically broths, icee things and jello but without that stuff I would have lost my mind.
@chucksmom15 That sounds amazing! I was able to have one popsicle and they let me have hard candy, so my parents picked me up some lemonheads from the gift shop. The cheeseburger and fries from Mcdonalds I finally got to eat at about 10pm was the most wonderful thing I’ve ever eaten! 🤣
@zuuls_mom Just before I got pregnant, I threw out my snoogle after it had been sitting on the closet floor for a year. I miss that thing and will definitely be buying another one! @DuchessOfCambridge My OB said that I can have a RCS, but still allow my body to go into labor on its own. The idea of scheduling a RCS at 39 weeks didn't sit well with me. What if baby isn't ready? Can't I just get frequent checks and adjust my CS date as the time approaches?
@megsb615 Two inductions here and two totally different experiences! My first I was induced at 40+1. It took 40 hours, 20 of which I had an epidural, multiple episodes of vomiting, and I contracted a uterine infection a couple hours before I started pushing that passed to her in the 1.75 hours of pushing. She ended up having a 10 day NICU stay for antibiotics over Christmas due to it. Recovery was brutal because I had the epidural for so long, plus the infection. So when I was scheduled for an induction at 41 weeks the second time I was devastated (but knew it was safest to get baby out at that point). Active labor was 8 hours, only 2 of which I had the epidural. I went from a not-quite-5 to a 10 in 90 minutes. Two contractions and five minutes of pushing and she was out. I was on my feet within an hour of birth, showered, makeup and hair done within 12 hours, and I felt great. Both labor experiences were so incredibly different even though induction methods were the same (cervadil, breaking of waters, pitocin). DD1 was born at 40+4, DD2 at 41 exactly.
@lovelybabybumpz that's good to know, I'm sure my OB would be okay with the same. I went into labor with DS over a week early and I've been wondering how that would work since they don't like to schedule CS's until at least 39 weeks but what if I go into labor before, which is likely...
@DuchessOfCambridge I had a scheduled CS for 39 weeks and ended up going into labor early. It was still pretty relaxed and didn't feel "emergency" or rushed at all. Hopefully if you have a scheduled CS, but go into labor early, your experience will be the same!

@imrachellea Wow, your first one sounded rough! Your second induction gives me some hope though! Hopefully mine will go quicker this time too. I feel like it took me so long to dilate with DS, but I believe he would’ve stayed in there forever if he could. I’m hoping this baby will be a little more eager to make an appearance.
So I failed the glucose test. I have to do the 3 hour now. They said I can go to the saturday clinic hours and get it done.

@SpaceBurger, my work colleague just had a 4th degree with an 8.5lb baby who ended up with shoulder dystopia and Erb’s Palsy. The OB has already told her that she can schedule her elective C-section for her next pregnancy if so desires. I’d say go for it with that delivery history, especially if you end of having GD.
@DuchessOfCambridge, sounds like you have all the medical indication for a repeat C-section. But, if the baby is smaller than your son and you have a more favorable pelvis relatively speaking, maybe you can reconsider the VBAC? Although pelvis issues are usually something that doesn’t change much from pregnancy to pregnancy and are a major reason for a RCS. Sorry.
guys, I’m so darn cold. NYC went from nearly 90 degrees last week to 40 this week! I just can’t. I haven’t even flipped my closet and when I do I’ll have no clothes to wear because I cannot control my eating and I’m already feeling to bloat. Also, I was going to save this for Monday BF, but my apartment heater broke last night. It’s super cold in my apartment! Thank goodness the HVAC guy will have the part that he needs to fix the problem and by Monday it will (hopefully) be fixed!
