Re: Weekly Randoms - 10/15

  • I was out for a few days bc DS has tubes and his adenoids removed.

@psychobutthead good luck!  I had to take that early in my last pregnancy and expect the same this time.

@eatinwatermelonseeds good luck on the house!!

@DressageDarling I got these off Amazon during my last pregnancy and love them!

  • @chucksmom15 How is he doing? Having tubes (her second set) plus an adenoidectomy in April was so positively altering for DD2.

Better already!!  He no longer has stuff draining out of his eyes.  The doctor said his adenoids were just an infection factory so glad we went ahead and did those too.  That explains why we couldn’t clear him up for more than about 3 days.

That was exactly our experience. DD2 was *constantly* congested. They originally planned just to cauterize the adenoids, but when they got in there they were huge. She has had exactly one episode of congestion since then, a six month period, and it's because seasons are changing. It's hard having your little you go through a procedure, but so worth it.

Wow! If you had a vaginal delivery you are my hero but I hope you had a c-section! My OB said she was worried I could have a 9 1/2 lb baby this time (not super worried, just going to keep an eye on it).

  • @kvh22 Hahah.....vaginal  :s With vacuum assistance, so I was tore up from the floor up. (4th degree). I have to meet with a doctor specialist this time around to discuss an optional c section which I'm 80% sure I'm going to do although I'm terrified.

As someone with a giant-headed baby who ended up with a c-section...girl get that c-section. I thank goodness I did not try to push that head out. His head was 100th percentile for a 5 year old when he was 2. Ain't no way that would have worked out right.

  • @SpaceBurger +1 to get that c-section. I really did not want mine and was so upset and thought recovery was terrible. A friend of mine had a similar situation to yours where her baby's head was giant and it messed her up for a long long time. Her recovery was way longer and way more horrendous than mine.

Big headed baby mamas unite. DD got stuck sideways bc he head was so huge so I had a csection. I have a massive head and DH has a tiny head, so I’m hoping #2 takes after him so I can have my. VBAC.

Haha, I have a giant head and so did my ex-H, so he came by it naturally for sure! My current SO appears to have a normal size noggin, but he's like over 6' so I have a feeling this baby is gonna be just big in general. Who knows though!

  • That's why I'm leaning towards it! Even an 8 week recovery from a c section sounds like a dream vs 9+ months and never really being the same again.

@SpaceBurger I went for a mile run 4 weeks after my c-section. It was hard, I walked half of it, and it hurt but I did it! Some recoveries are for sure harder than others but I was forced to walk pretty soon after and often to go see DS in the NICU and while it sucked at the time, I think it helped my healing to keep moving. I was cleared for light exercise at 4 weeks pp and started really pushing myself (minus abs) at 7 weeks. I actually didn’t do abs until 5 or 6 months pp.

That was very wordy, sorry. Just to say, it may not be a horrible recovery. I thought mine was horrible but I was comparing it to friends who had uncomplicated vagjnal deliveries and were fine the next day.

  • @SpaceBurger I remember that I felt really fine and mostly normal by 6 weeks. And I only took pain meds the first few days, after that it didn't hurt unless I moved certain ways. I had no long-term bad side effects.

  • @SpaceBurgerAnother non-terrible CS here! The first couple days sucked, but staying on top of pain meds, walking around and sleeping at an incline really helped. I felt pretty much back to normal after about 4 weeks with the exception of some incision tenderness. Took me a few weeks to be able to lay flat so I would say that was my most frustrating part of the experience. I honestly expected it to be pretty debilitating (not be able to stand up all the way, walk, sit or stand without help, etc.), but it was honestly not bad.

  • I like hearing all these good stories! There were a lot of good c section stories from my other group too, so that helps calm the nerves a wee bit. I wish an uncomplicated vaginal delivery was guaranteed!!
  • My csection recovery was not that bad either, but that being said- I was a FTM. I’m deathly afraid about not being able to pick up my toddler for 4-6 weeks, so I really want a VBAC this time.
  • @chloe97 that's my main reason for not wanting a scheduled CS this time around. I feel like momming will be so much easier without having had major abdominal surgery.

  • @kvh22 my midwife felt mine about a week and a half before he was born and said about 7.5lbs at that time. I'm guessing she was pretty accurate because he was 8.5 exactly when he finally decided to Grace us with his presence.

On the other side over here. DD was 9 lbs, 10 oz with a 99th percentile head. I pushed her for 90 minutes, after contractions for 31 hours (every 2 mins-90 seconds for 13 hours) and an epidural for the last 6 hours. I got a second degree tear and a pissed off lollipop baby, haha. I'm not argue for one side or the other (not everything has to pick sides, haha!), just sharing my relevant birth story. But maybe I just have a loose vagina, lol
  • @SpaceBurger my girl was 9lbs 14oz—turns out I jut have big babies too.

I was 10lbs 10oz....so I guess some things are in fact genetic and not everyone that has big babies has undiagnosed GD.

@kvh22 That's one of the questions I'm going to ask the doctor when I have the appointment is if they FOR SURE can tell how big the baby will be. I'm guessing not.
The only thing I remember them doing is saying, "Oh, you don't need a c section because baby's head is small enough to pass through your pelvic bone." BUT that was I think at the anatomy scan around 20 weeks.

@liliumstargazer13 lol  I would even go for a second or third degree tear if it was guaranteed, but damn that 4th degree set me back for sooooo long, and the chances of it happening again are high(ish). I'm still not 100% on the c section. It's such a hard choice!!! Like, hedging my bets with a guaranteed major abdominal surgery or gambling on a terrible recovery, light recovery, or possible emergency c.

They can't handle this sh**! DH is better at talking about his feelings as well as listening to me complain about "female problems" but he's a major wimp when it comes to pain. I also can't picture him BFing  :D

  • @spaceburgers because the human population would end.
  • @eatinwatermelonseeds TRUE THAT.

@SpaceBurger I had a failed induction and ended up with a traumatic emergency c at 41+2. I’m planning another section 100%

  • @kvh22 @eatinwatermelonseeds hahaha you guys are right. Also, the complaining from them would be the end of me

  • @mrsclark731 AH! I'm sorry you had the worst of both worlds. Avoiding that would be wonderful haha

  • @SpaceBurger Yess! The complaining would be the worst part of all!
  • @chloe97 I totally wish I could have a vbac. My OB has advised it but I need to really find out a lot more facts. DS suffered a brain injury trying to get out vaginally and no one knows why or can pin down the exact cause (SO frustrating) but there are a few theories and one of them is my pubic bone not having enough clearance. I’m TERRIFIED of this happening again. DS is okay now but has lifelong effects from a stupid accident and ok clearly I’m still very emotional about this.

TL;DR - I would magically love to have a vbac and feel good about it. My recovery wasn’t horrible but it IS still recovery from major abdominal surgery which is not fun.

  • @DuchessOfCambridge Omg that is awful and scary! I can totally understand why you would prefer a RCS. My DD went into distress during labor bc my uterus was “dysfunctional” and no one could tell me why. So it’s entirely possible the same thing would happen again, so I’m definitely not set on it.
  • I had a VBAC with DD2, and if I can do it again, I definitely will. Recovery was much much easier, and I could actually play with DD1 instead of being in pain for weeks and weeks. It will definitely be rough if I have to have another C/S...last time I couldn't even get in or out of my bed for months -- we had to sleep on a mattress on the floor -- and now our house has stairs, so I'm not sure what I would do about that.

  • Someone asked me today if I was considering a water birth. Honestly, growing up and going through healthcare classes in high school and early college, I always thought about doing a water birth. But, I’ve seen that a lot of practices stopped doing them anymore due to risk of infection. Has anyone else considered a water birth? Granted, this is only perfect world of baby does things my way (😂😂)

  • I’ve had two c-sections. Ds1was an emergency c section due to the cord wrapped twice around his neck, and ds2 was a repeat. I wasn’t given the option of vbac (our local hospital and my doctor won’t do it) and since I had severe pre e with my first (I was induced at 36 weeks) it just didn’t seem worth it to switch to a midwife for a vbac only to end up with pre e and c section anyways. In hindsight had totally normal pregnancy and went into labor on my own at 37 weeks 2days which meant I probably could have tried for a vbac. The recovery was ok. 1 st time was harder since I was on magnesium 24 hours post birth.  I only wish I could know what it would be like to have a newborn and not be in severe pain recovering from major surgery, but with ds2 I was up walking and showering the next day so you do get moving pretty quickly.  For ds2 my mom stayed with us for 3 weeks to help me with the boys while I recovered. We worked really hard to teach ds1 how to climb in and out of the car, put clothes on, put his own shoes on before ds2 arrived and that was also a big help!
  • @mrskoz428 my mom attempted a water birth with my sister. I can’t remember the story exactly, but she had to get out for some reason but was crowning or just couldn’t move the greatest and said she was so traumatized by the amount of people it took her to lift her wet, naked and very pregnant body out of the bath. She compared herself to a beached whale 😂.

I had a whirlpool in my birthing room and was excited to use it to progress things or get comfortable if needed. Had no plan on birthing in it though. I was hooked up to so many things though that it ended up not being possible.

It's not for me but like you said, it's not even an option around here as far as I know, because of infection. I haven't looked into birth centers but hospitals where I am won't let you even labor in water after your water breaks. My hospital didn't even have a tub. Which I found super annoying even though I didn't want to actually labor in the tub, I just wanted the option to labor in it if I so chose  I'd be curious if birth centers allow it or if you have to have a home birth to have a water birth!

  • @mrskoz428 I'm currently researching unmedicated births and am considering laboring in water. That said, only a birth center will allow an actual water birth, and the amount of gross stuff that came out of my body when I gave birth makes me lean away from actually delivering in a tub. I just... Yeah, no. But I am considering a birth center so I'm in a home like environment and if I can't get out of the tub, I don't have to get screamed at. But I worry because my son had some issues (nothing crazy or that would be life threatening to my newborn) and I'm thinking I'd feel more comfortable with baby in a hospital. Birthing in a birth center but recovering in a hospital? I don't know if that's a thing 😂 and even then, I don't know. But I'm researching and preparing for an unmedicated birth this time.
  • @eatinwatermelonseeds I delivered in a birth center within a hospital. Is that abnormal?
