Re: Favorite baby names

  • MH and I have had the name Anastasia (nickname Ana) picked out since before we were married. For a middle name, we are leaning towards Theodora in honor of his late grandmother but she actually hated that name and went by Dora. I just don't think Anastasia Dora sounds good at all, though.

  • We probably won’t decide until the baby is actually born, but right now our favorites are: Cora, Everly, and Eleanor.

@kschyala love all three but Cora really sticks out to me. All beautiful!

Edited to say we did the same with our son,  didn’t name him till he was born. We didn’t know what he was so we had two names for each sex and went with what felt right when he was here!
  • @kschyala @Shelbyville30 I love Cora too. It was near the top of our list with my first, and if this one had been a girl I would have lobbied hard for it to my husband.
  • Once we find out the sec we'll get more serious about choosing names. We won't choose one until baby is born though. We went to the hospital with 2 possible names for DD and ended up going with the front runner, but we hadn't wanted to finalize it until we saw her and made sure it fit.

@mamaoftwomonkeys I am leaning towards Isla if we have another girl. My grandmother, Mary, passed away earlier this year so I'm thinking Isla Mary... we also did 2 mn for our DD so I've been pondering what other name works with Isla Mary ____ *****. I love Rose but it doesn't sound great with my last name which starts with an S. If you had any other combos of Isla Mary that you were considering at the time, I'd love to hear them!
  • @laur84ns We chose the middle names from  grandma names, too. Rose was my husband’s grandmother’s middle name, and both my grandmas had variants of Mary for their name (Marilyn and Molly). We had briefly considered “Day” and “Jean” (other family names) instead of Rose. Obviously, I think you have great taste ;)
  • @mamaoftwomonkeys Oh rats, my other grandmother is Gertrude  Gulp! I'll have to ask my husband what his grandmothers were named.... unfortunately they both passed away a long time ago. Hopefully there's a nice name in there that we can use.
Ok... so I just asked him: Emily and Ruth. Hmm. I'll have to ponder those!

  • I'm pretty dead set on Rowan for a boy. At around 8 weeks I had a crazy pregnancy dream where I gave birth to premature twin boys that I didn't even know I was pregnant with and the nurse handed me the first and asked what I would name him...for some reason I said Rowan. Not sure where the name came from, I've never met anyone with the name and it wasn't on my list but ever since it's just felt right. For a girl I've been leaning towards Evangeline, Evvie (ev-ee) for short. I keep going back and forth on the girl name though. I also like Emilia, Remi, Esme, and Oriana. My gut is leaning towards boy girl twins so I've been just trying to pair a girl name with Rowan for now until I know genders for sure.
  • @katw123 Rowan and Remi is adorableeeee
  • @katw123 I agree, Rowan and Remi make adorable twin names! Plus both names can be used for boys or girls.

I love Rowan and remi! You (and other twin moms) may want to think about differentiating at least the middle initial, as otherwise they will have identical initials along with their sequential ssn s, which is a recipe for mistakes (at best) and fraud/identity theft at worst.

ETA: I was totally wrong. Ssn s are much more random after 2011, so no worries there.

  • FWIW, my twins have very different ssn s. I wouldn't be so worried about that part.
  • @katw123 listen to the song "The Mother" by Brandi Carlisle, it makes me love Evangeline!
  • @BuckeyeNut05 thanks for chiming in, my info was out of date, as I didn't realize they changed how they assign ssn s in 2011. My cousins with this issue were born in the 90's. I'm going to edit my previous post now, but thanks for keeping me up to date!

  • @sejica I still agree that twins share enough already, they should have their own initials at least.

  • We have an ongoing list of names for this baby, unsure of gender yet but will hopefully know in the next week.

    Girls:
    Hazel Leigh
    Eleanor
    Adelaide
    Ruby Leigh
    Mabel
    Hattie
    Willow
    Opal
    Camille (Millie) Rose
    Amelia Rose

Boys: All middle names will be Lee after DH middle name
    Roman Lee
    Jack
    Maxwell
    Enzo
    Dashiell
    Rowan
    Saylor
    Samuel
    Henry

    DD is Vivienne Grace
  • DH doesn't like any names. I'm guessing this babe won't have a name till the hospital haha! We have a blended family, and the names somehow still kind of go together. I'm a social worker, so I feel like my job has ruined so many good names for me lol. I'm Ashley, so I refuse to do any names in the top 10. I literally had to go by my full name in school because my maiden name is also super common. It was SO annoying.

    Current kids are
    Liliana Renee
    Annabella Jo
    Ryleigh Grace
    Jackson Bradley

Hubby likes Zoey for a girl, which I also like, but I'm torn because of popularity. Our last name also starts with Z, so idk if i like that. We like Samuel for a boy I think. Not set on it yet though. I want to use Wilson for a middle name for a boy because it's my maiden name...but my cousin did that with her 3 boys so I'm torn again.
  • @kelleigh82 I have a Mabel so that gets my vote! :)
  • Pretty sure this one won’t have a name right away just like DD. We haven’t even talked names but I have a list in mind:

    Girl:
    Cecile
    Everly
    Chloe
    Scarlett
    Amelia

    Boy:
    Franklin
    Carter
    Elliot
    Cayden

DH is still stuck on Ella from 5 years ago because I wouldn’t let him name DD that. I swear I will lose this battle if it’s a girl. DD is Natalie Jayne. Her middle name has been passed down from my mom, to me, and now her. So we will probably pick a family name as a middle name for this one too.

  • We have 2 girls and never even discussed names before we knew they were girl because even just picking our girls names was an endeavor.  I have an Emily Madeline and a Katherine "Kate" Sophia.  My husband's parents always called him by his middle name so he is adamant that we don't do that.  I like classic names with traditional spellings.  Last pregnancy DH seemed to lean toward 80s names and this time we get to name 2!  1 syllable names are off the table. Because of our one syllable last name.... This still. Leaves us soooo many options  Haha

  • @mamakate1616 We were set on Calliope until recently!! I still loooooove it, but husband is now set on Callia. Which I also love. My mother passed recently and her name was Shirley Anne, so we are thinking of melding them together and using Leyanne as a middle name.

We can't even come close to agreeing on boys names though. He want's Jack, and I like Elias.
  • So far i know for sure middle name will be Elizabeth after my mom....for now we have agreed on Lauren...i love the flow, Lauren Elizabeth....i was thinking Aria for a first name but he shot me down because i shot down his first name (Ladue) lol, but i think this may be a winner. We still have quite a while to go and im indecisive LOL so we shall see!

  • Almost figured out a name.  Arthur Lee D.... for a boy and either Eliana Josephine or Elaine Josephine D....
  • @zionsmama85 Awe Lauren Elizabeth is pretty!

Only definitely we have is the middle name of Chase after my husband's brother that passed last year to brain cancer. We are thinking Mia Chase...it's the only main name we both can agree on. I was stuck on Ella after his grandmother, but we'll see!

  • We've decided on Eli Kane O. It's the only name we both like. We weren't going to tell anyone but we did and now I'm regretting It! I hate when people give you their negative opinion on the name after we just said "the name we have decided on is..." so now I know who's going to hate my son's name! The whole reason we decided not to spill it. Glad MH stuck to his guns and didn't try to make me change my mind!
  • stmgsam3  my granddads name was Arthur. i love that name! only reason it hasn't been a contender for me is bc about 3 men in my family already have it as a middle or first name lol.

  • Boy: Sullivan (Sully)

Girl: I really wanted Ruth Mackenzie (ruthie mack) but we’ve been watching Ozarks and I kinda can’t do Ruth now.

I like sawyer for either boy or girl. We really haven’t talked about it much because we have very different styles on everything, especially our kids names. We will get more serious after the anatomy scan
  • @jdthorsi Eli is actually on our shortlist, so I may be biased, but I think it’s a wonderful name! It’s a tough call to tell people ahead of time what your name choice is b/c there’s always bound to be someone that has a negative comment. As far as that person hating your son’s name, they may actually grow fond of it once your son is born. I had very strong opinions about both my nieces’ names (kept those opinions to myself ofc) but soon after they were born, and especially now that they are older and have personalities all their own, I couldn’t think of more fitting names for them. So just ignore all the negative comments. The name you guys pick is the perfect name for your baby.
  • I like more rare names. My son's name is Tyrian, he is 2 (3 in December). I am having a boy due March 19th 2019.

I am looking for a unique name or something that goes along with Tyrian. I'd say some of my more favorite picks have been:

    Waylen
    Wyatt
    Jaxson
    Maverick
    Quinn

Though I am also going to explore color names since Tyrian is the color purple. The father of the baby isn't looking at names its just me. He named his other son, also 3, Dexter after a TV show. It is a unique name though. But I just feel uncomfortable browsing with him, so I am just doing it alone for now.
  • @autumnlilliana there’s an app, I think it’s just called baby names, where you each pick names separately and they “match” like tinder.
    DD1: June '16 DD2: March ‘19 :::: Married since 2011 :::: USN Wife ::::
  • @autumnlilliana You said Tyrian and I immediately thought Game of Thrones even though the spelling is different. If the father's son is actually named after a TV show, you might want to be careful of having the third child have a name connected to a popular show unless it doesn't bother you that people may think all your children's names came from TV shows.
  • This baby is going to be nameless  :'(. We went through a list of 1,000 names for girls and not one screamed this is her name. We are half way to her being here and I like calling my babes by their names, not he or she. Our other kiddos were so easy to name. It’s been so hard this time. I get we still have time, but a name isn’t something I want us to just settle on bc we need to leave the hospital. I’m a firm believer that a name matters.

We have two sleeping beauties in heaven.
Jack gained his wings on 09/02/2016.
Kali gained her wings on 07/28/2015.
They will be forever missed. <3

  • @bdesterhouse Awe it'll come to you soon! I looked thru a million baby names, then one night we were watching TV and someone said a name and we both said...I like that name! We never agreed on any name before then. I thought I was gonna fight MH on some silly one he was stuck on.

    Baby Girl born 3/26/19  <3

  • @bdesterhouse - I'm with you. If this LO is a girl, she may be nameless. We've had to use all the favorites we can agree on and others that we like were used by close family. We both have names we still like, we just can't agree. DD1, 2, and 3 were much easier to name!

If it's a boy, he'll have the name we chose the first time around and have never gotten to use! :)
  • @bdesterhouse i am so with you! we were so convinced we were having a boy that we have one solid boy's name and then a "short list" for girls.... now that we know we've got a little lady on the way it has been the absolute hardest to pick one!!!!! i love all of them - and then i find reasons to say "but" about all of them too.... this is harder than i thought it would be!

We’re definitely naming this baby Natalie but we’re stuck on a middle name. Top contenders are:

    Natalie Claire
    Natalie Grace
    Natalie Kate
    Natalie Calla

Any suggestions for 2syllable middle names?
  • @chocolatelemons I love Natalie Grace!
  • @chocolatelemons
What about Natalie Clara? If your last name has more than one syllable though a middle name with just one might be nice.

  • I'm totally stuck on our favorite boy name Christopher Jay- but we've managed to land on a couple solid backups- Patrick Jay & Sean Nickolas.

As for girls, we've only come up with one that we both love- Keira JoAnn (JoAnn is a combo of our grandmothers middle names). I love Annalise Jo, but DH has a cousin he is decidedly not fond of whose name is Anna, and he's afraid Annalise would wind up shortened to Anna- he hasn't said no exactly, he's just leery of it  :/
Other possible options are Amelia JoAnn & Elena JoAnn, but I'm really not in love with either
