Thanks ladies. My first name is Paige and everyone constantly misspells it, so I guess I am just sensitive!! It doesn’t really bother me but you try to think of everything you know?!???

@3rdtime_charmed Personally, I prefer the most common spelling for names to avoid misspelling. I’m Kristin, so like many others, people are constantly spelling my name with an E. Just this morning, I received my login information for an online graduate course which was supposed to be firstnamelastname. They, of course, spelled my name incorrectly.
With that said, Lacey/ Lacy is not an incredibly popular name so I’m not sure misspellings would be much of an issue or something that could be avoided. Before your post, I would have had to look up the spelling so I would go for what you prefer.
@3rdtime_charmed We live in a time when many people are making up new spelling so I suspect this is going to become a problem most kids these days will sympathize with.
@letsmakeit5 Nice list! I love Zachary Nathaniel and Isabelle Grace in particular. I know someone with a daughter named Isabelle who goes by Izzy and I think that's just the cutest nickname, but Isabelle is beautiful in full as well.

We didn’t share DS name before he was born because we didn’t want to hear everyone’s opinions of a name we picked, etc. Well yesterday I went to my in-laws to help them prepare for today and of course they asked if we had a name picked out. I told them we didn’t but gave them some options of ones we liked and some we had ruled out. Thinking it might make fun discussion. All my MIL could do was tell me why the name we almost picked for DS was a terrible name. Thankfully we no longer care for the name either but at one time we loved it and almost named our son it. I guess I was just reminded why we keep our names private! Sorry for the rant I just needed to vent and get it out.
For the record DS is Lucas and our current top 3 picks for this LO are Charlie, Calvin, and Brody. With Calvin being a top contender and I didn’t share any of these 3 names with my MIL. I’m so thankful I didn’t!
@ashley14598 I love Calvin! DH wouldn’t have gone for it, he likes much more traditional names. Luckily this is a girl so we don’t have to stress about it, but Calvin was on my long list.
DD1: June '16 DD2: March ‘19 :::: Married since 2011 :::: USN Wife ::::
@ashley14598 I love Calvin too! We have been very lucky in that (so far at least) we have been able to be very open about the name we picked and not one person has tried to talk us out of it or tell us it's a bad name. I think it helps we can start off the reveal by saying "He'll be named after his great grandfather." It's hard for family to say it's a terrible name after that. LO's great grandfather was well loved.
I've stalked this page for weeks upon weeks now and still can't come up with anything that DH and I agree upon. We are having a girl. Our 1st is Lillyana Violet Marie S. as a reminder. I have a long list but DH had vetoed everything. Only name we like together is Luna but I don't LOVE it.
The following are on my long....list:

@meggyme I hadn't even considered the two together honestly lol it is kinda odd. I like Norah, I had only considered Nora which I don't like but I don't mind it with the h. I don't love Margot but I would consider Rosemarie.

@Bride2b1213 I have not worried about it and we have been very open with friends and family who asked the name. I get the benefit of being able to start the reveal with "We are naming him after his grandfather" which I think makes it harder for people to openly criticize the name. So I haven't experienced any negative reactions or counter suggestions but I know plenty of people who received non-stop resistance to the name once it was in the open. If you don't want to deal with bad reactions, I would recommend keeping it a secret until you can share it along with a newborn baby photo.
@Bride2b1213 We’ve only ever gotten any negative opinions with this pregnancy when we’ve said “we are thinking of...” or “we are leaning toward...” I feel like it invites people’s opinions and they’re not shy when they’re not 100% positive.
With DD1 we had her name before we knew she was a girl so once we found out we could say with confidence “we’re having a girl and her name will be...” I think being able to speak with that confidence shuts down a lot of people’s not so positive thoughts. I also agree with mayoduck that no one will talk bad when the name is physically attached to a human and not just theoretical.
DD1: June '16 DD2: March ‘19 :::: Married since 2011 :::: USN Wife ::::
@Bride2b1213 I feel the same as you do. I would rather keep the name to ourselves so we don’t get unwanted opinions. Plus, I think it’s kind of fun surprise for everyone when he is born.
@Bride2b1213 This is why we don't share our name until after baby arrives. We kept it a secret with DD and will do the same with this girl, even though we've known what names we were going to use early on. We simply don't want anyone's opinions! If anyone is rude enough to say something negative about the name once it's attached to an actual baby, well they're a jerk and that's on them. I agree with PP in that saying "we're thinking of..." or "we kinda like..." basically invites opinions (positive or otherwise) so if you do want to share the name early, I'd go with the"Our daughter's name will be ...." more finalized route since it leaves little room for debate (though some people will probably still offer their opinions!) Good luck! The most important thing is that you and your partner live the name, since you'll be saying it 100x per day for the rest of your lives
@violetmarie61516 From your list my favorites are Scarlett, Charlotte (my DD's name so I'm biased) and Grace. I'd use Grace myself in a heartbeat if it didn't sound so terrible with our name. I also like PP's suggestion if Stella. Good luck finding a name you both love!
I think DH and I just settled on a name: Lucille Helen. It’s a lot of L’s because our last name ends in L, but Helen was his grandma’s name and they had a special bond. DD1 is named after one of my grandmas, so we wanted a similarly meaningful name. I’m pretty excited to have that nailed down and out of the way.
DD1: June '16 DD2: March ‘19 :::: Married since 2011 :::: USN Wife ::::
So I've been following this post but been afraid to post. Like others have mentioned we'd rather keep the name ideas to ourselves. We made the mistake with DD1 of telling our parents our ideas and got a lot of negative feedback and unwanted suggestions. So after that we called DD1 Chiquita Banana and didn't announce her actual name to anyone until after she was born.
We have told everyone that this time we will not officially announce a name until after LO is born. We originally agreed on Esther Irene, but DH has already blurted to his mother. Not sure how I feel about it since I've been sitting on it for a couple months now. I also really like Lydia and feel like it flows better with Natalie, which is DD1s name.
@novelblessings two of my sisters are Katherine Erin and Erin Elizabeth, and DH is Joseph Daniel with a brother Daniel James. If you love the name, use it twice!
DD1: June '16 DD2: March ‘19 :::: Married since 2011 :::: USN Wife ::::
@meggyme I had to think a bit about your comment. Smushy brain. We would still use Irene as a middle name, so it would be Lydia Irene. I just think the two names Lydia and Natalie go better as sibling names, rather than Esther and Natalie.
Aww, I just love seeing the names people come up with and the different styles! I wish the broader Baby Names bump board had the same level of supportive attitudes the naming threads in birth month boards seem to. Completely different communities of people it seems.
Congratulations to those who have settled on a name! That's such an exciting one to check off the list.
I know a lot of people are the same boat as us, but I just wanted to say that we have picked names since we started planning on getting pregnant. The boy name is super common but it's a family name and the girl name is kind of out there which I know we would get opinions on so we aren't sharing.
We aren't planning to share the name until after the baby is here, mostly to keep something as a surprise for our families. First name is after DH's grandpa and middle name is after my grandpa. It's a little old timey, but I love it so much and I also haven't heard it anywhere else before so I like that is is a bit more on the unique side while still being a family name. My sister already asked if we were naming the baby after my grandpa and I was like 'nope' but my head I went 'not exaaaccctly?'
Anyone else not decided on a name yet, nor have a solid short list? I’m kinda freaking out that we’ve got 11 weeks til due date and we’re still so lax about not having a name picked. MH seems so unconcerned about it and it’s started to really piss me off. Like I’m undecided, but I’m constantly thinking about a handful of names and seeing if it fits; I’ve been doing that since the beginning but nothing has “clicked” yet. MH on the other hand seems to think a name will appear out of thin air, and is not that engaged when I prod him. Bumming me out 😕
@navete You’re not alone! We are not even close! We have a list of names we both like, but I just can’t commit. And we are getting a lot of pressure from family about it because we had our daughter named before 20 weeks.
My cousin didn’t have names for her two until they came out. I am hoping I will know what to name him when I see his face!
@navete I thought we had a few solid names picked out, but I've either started disliking them or I've heard other people make fun of them (without me even telling them we were thinking about naming our kid that). Now I'm stuck and feel like I'm back to square one. We're both annoying and reject a lot of names that are nice because we have a stupid association with a TV character or something. We're probably going to have to get over that....
Also, you don't have to name them at the hospital. It's easier because you can do all the Social Security paperwork there and get it submitted with the hospital representative, but I believe you can leave the hospital with an unnamed baby. I have a friend who was Baby Hill for 2 weeks before her parents named her.
DD1: June '16 DD2: March ‘19 :::: Married since 2011 :::: USN Wife ::::
@navet my brother & sister-in-law didn’t name any of their 3 until after they were born! Their first was nameless until the day they left the hospital. They didn’t want to pick something until they’d met their little love.
@navete we are nowhere close to a name! We haven't discussed it yet, and now we're kind of getting down to the wire. We're also team green so we have to pick two and that scares me because we have completely different tastes. At this point I'm almost down for forgetting to discuss it so I might have more opportunity to get my way once the baby is here and he sees just what I had to go through.
@navete no name set in stone here. DD1 didn’t have a name for 12 hours. As for not naming baby at the hospital I would check your state laws. Michigan requires that baby has a name before they discharge you from the hospital.
@novelblessings@bdesterhouse that's interesting. My friend was also born in CA in the 1980's, so the laws could have changed in the last 30+ years too.
