@Lbloom I’m the opposite. We’re on boy #3 and outta names we agree on. DS2 was a struggle but this one is rough. DH keeps bringing up names that he knows I loathe and I can’t tell if he’s being serious or just trying to ride my last nerve to a breakdown. I have a billion girl names I’ll never get to use though smh
@3rdtime_charmed That’s a good point. Our last name is 2 syllables but I’m having a hard time with a 1 syllable middle names. I like the ones we have listed, but I don’t love any of them, yet.
@mayoduck Natalie Elyse is really pretty and it flows with our last name.
We have had a boy name picked out since before we were even trying. Patrick Thomas.
However, if this baby is a girl, we have a list to choose from. The current fave girl name is Charlotte Jean (Jean is his mom's name and makes a super cute middle name). However, the nickname would be Charlie Jean and I am afraid it may be too close to Charlie Sheen... Lol
Boy names have been hard for us. DH was dead set on Castiel and I just can’t do it. We’ve compromised by going with Cass Edward for now. It’s not set in stone. Edward was my name until the day I was born and surprised everyone as a girl. It’s also a family name and my favorite uncle’s name who never had kids. I struggled a bit with Cass being more of a nickname but I’ve googled it and there are a handful of people with Cass as a full name. I really like it paired with Edward because it gives it a more formal feel and if he ever feels like Cass is to informal he can go by Edward. I’d love to hear thoughts in either direction. (Also I know my mom is going to hate the name but I don’t really care and we are not telling her because she ruined a girl name we loved for DD.)
ETA: our girl names are Petralina Faith and Vivian Arora. (Both influences from grandmothers.)
@kristimh80 I’m so sorry to hear about your bother in law and it’s so sweet you are honoring him in that way. Your story hits very, very close to home for me as my DH’s brother also passed away from brain cancer in December 2016. Sending you hugs. Mia Chase is a beautiful name.
@mschanandlerbong1214For a while my husband was set on this made up name “Mariondolph” for a boy because it is a hybrid of mine and his dad’s middle names, drove me nuts and I never knew if he was serious or joking (generally he likes “normal” names but he has thrown a few “out there” names). Have you tried reversing it to see if he is just messing with you? Like pick an outrageous name you know he won’t like and pretend to love it. You can always have a “bad dream” and rule it out or something if it backfires.

@lucysmom2016 Coming in with a name opinion but it's a good one - Christopher Jay is the name of one of my lifelong friends (we're talking 20+ years) and I've always loved his name!
Now that we know it’s a girl we have a more serious shortlist.
Stevie Jane (my husband’s name is stephen) Stevie Lee (his mom passed and her middle name is lee) Margot James India Lee Indie Lee
Indie Lee is a favorite of mine but DH doesn’t like that it’s not a real name/word... he thinks it’s an abbreviation. Additionally and coincidentally it has come to my attention that Indie Lee is a cosmetics brand?!?! I don’t necessarily mind that. I wouldn’t pick Lee first but we’d be doing it for his mom.
curious if anyone feels the same way as my husband does about the “abbreviation” concept?
@indigoheightsblog I’ve never heard of the name Indie, but I don’t think it sounds like an abbreviation at all. It’s a really pretty name. I actually think I like Indie better than India (which I’ve heard of).
@indigoheightsblog Is it because it sounds similar to ND? It doesn't come across as an abbreviation to me (I had to think for a bit about what the issue could be before I came up with that possibility).
@mayoduck no no by abbreviation he means "short for" - like it's short for Indianapolis or short for Independent..... like people from Indianapolis say theyre 'from Indy' and i guess that's what he thinks of!!
@indigoheightsblog I think Indiana Jones (who took the name from his dog) when I hear Indie. I like: Stevie Jane - I feel like more masculine names for girls need a feminine counterpart. Also Stevie Lee sounds like it could be Steve Ely and she’d be assumed to be a man a lot. I had a college friend named Stephanie that went by Stevie. Margot James - of all your names this is most my style, so I like it the most. India Lee - I like the flow of the two names not ending with the same sound.
DD1: June '16 DD2: March ‘19 :::: Married since 2011 :::: USN Wife ::::
@meggyme - yeah we love Stevie Jane. DH really wants to find a way to honor his mom.... only reason we'd put Lee at the end of anything. Luckily though she probably won't be using her middle name on anything other than her birth certificate and passport so I'm not super worried about the name being mistaken for male. I guess we still have a few more months to get this all figured out!!!
@indigoheightsblog I would think its an abbreviated riff on your blog, but there's no shame if that's what you're going for. Stevie was also on my never to be used again girl list!
We've decided on Nickolas Evan. We have always liked the name Nickolas (so many fun nicknames...Nick, Nico, Nickles...), and Evan is a family name. Thank goodness we're having a boy though... homegirl would have been nameless lol
@purplepirate09 Nice ! Can't go wrong with a classic (IMHO). We are also planning on first name of Nicholas if baby is a boy. DH's grandfather was Nicholas nn Nick. DH didn't like it at first only because it's a cliche name for Greeks (My Big Fat Greek Wedding anyone?) but we will be using the nn Nico to be different.
I’ve recently been leaning towards the name Max, but would really prefer if it were a nickname for a more formal name. Any suggestions? I’m not too excited about the formal names I can think of (Maxwell, Maximilian)
@swanbrooner - omg!!! totally what i was going for..... i guess i'm really drawn to that sound LOL - now that's something else to think about.... i would likely have to make a point to say (once and only once) "no, her name has nothing to do with indigo heights" - good catch!
I’ve recently been leaning towards the name Max, but would really prefer if it were a nickname for a more formal name. Any suggestions? I’m not too excited about the formal names I can think of (Maxwell, Maximilian)
What about Maxen?

DS2 is Max. But JUST Max lol everyone calls him Maximus though
@mamakate1616 any normal Irish name (easily pronounced and spelled lol) I’ve suggested is “too weird” for him. But he’s totally cool with Ezekiel and Zeb He’d probably know if I went too crazy with a name that I was just messing with him.
With DS2 he was dead set on Henry Antonio. Which would be beautiful...if our last name didn’t start with M. I couldn’t stamp the initials HAM on a kid for life
We’ve been having the same fight we did last time mostly though. If it’s not one of the weird names, then he wants to name the baby after his dad, which I totally understand but I hate his dads name. Salvador doesn’t flow with Jude (DS1) and Max (DS2). And honestly I’m a little bi***y about names ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ we’ll have ALL boys. ALL with his last name, his father’s last name, his father’s father’s last name. In my opinion that’s his contribution to naming lol these boys are his legacy and will carry on his family’s name. JUST LET ME PICK THE NAMES I’LL BE YELLING AT THEM FOR THE NEXT 18 YEARS! obviously I’m joking but only a little lol I won’t be steam rolled or guilted into a name I don’t like and neither will he. So we spew names at each other until we can compromise.
@indigoheightsblog my 3 year old daughter is Ronnie Lee (dads name Ronald, Lee ran on both sides of our families) and she has been mistaken as a boy a couple times just from her name. I never care though as my name is a boy name too and I really never minded. Stevie is so cute! So is Indie! I like honoring family members and I bet it would mean a lot to your husband to choose Lee
@mamakeeg this is awesome feedback! thank you! i agree i think it’s a nice gesture. I never knew his mom but the way him and his sister talk about her I feel like I know her and it would be really special, because I sister in law gave her daughter lee as a middle name too.
@mschanandlerbong1214 haha sounds like you have used the same talking points I tried! I am also particular about names and don’t love the middle name we’ve chosen but it’s important to him so whatever. He really wanted Henry for a while and I had to say no because the names would run together “Hank Cook—“ and I don’t like that. Definitely an adorable name though. Could you choose a different middle so you don’t have HAM?

@mschanandlerbong1214 If the only problem with Henry Antonio is the initials, have you tried looking at E names that may have a similar rhythm like Henry Emilio, Henry Emmanuel, Henry Emerson? You mentioned Ezekiel is ok, what about Henry Ezekiel?
@mschanandlerbong1214 there are some people out there with the last name Ham or Hamm so initials wouldn't be so bad...just sayin do you refer to your kids initials a lot? They aren't usually something I think about I guess.
@HoneyBear40 in the South monograms are hugely popular. I've seen many baby blankets, onesies, and keepsakes like rattles and spoon sets with baby's monogram on them.
DD1: June '16 DD2: March ‘19 :::: Married since 2011 :::: USN Wife ::::
@meggyme Gotcha! Then I can kind of see it? Up north I can't say I've seen a lot of monograms...I have to agree with @mayoduck that at least it's not ASS
What do you ladies think of the name Cybil for a girl? Is it too downtown abbey that we will be judged? I’m struggling so bad with a name. My name requirement of what it can’t be is so long. My mom says I’m being too picky limiting my options. I like more unique names whereas my husband wants “normal” which what is that anymore?!?
