Delicious but not as good as caribou.

So my husband made a snarky comment about someone we know hiring a house cleaner while a SAHM with a toddler and pregnant and her husband is deployed.  I pointed out that he has never cleaned a house in his life and can't even manage to get his socks in the hamper, so he shut up, which is good, because if he's expecting a sparkling house when I'm in the same place in a few years, he's got another thing coming.
I haven't decided if I should put a housecleaning service or a roomba on my Christmas list. The new house all hard floors in the first floor. There will be so much dog hair in the corners...
I don't think I could ever have a cleaning service, I don't like having strangers in my home.  I did tell DH that for Christmas I want a night in a hotel... alone.  I was half joking.  Or maybe not.

  • I've had reindeer, I'd like to try your moose.
  • @purespark‌ I feel ya lady. So jealous of everyone saying their LO's sleep is so bad when they woke twice at night. That's insanely good for us. OG has never been a good sleeper. Her longest stretch is usually 4 hrs and the stars have to align for that. (Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for you ladies with good sleepers).

Last week when she was up every hour my supply was way low. I had to add in three extra pumps one day to meet her needs. Sleep deprivation sucks. And so does stressing out about pumping levels. A friend reminded me that she won't want to snuggle with me forever at night and I should enjoy it while I can. That thought and caffeine helps a lot!
  • I too regret not doing newborn photos. We're doing a six month shoot. Dylan will be the subject and I may take a couple with him. Hopefully he's sitting up by then. It'll just make the photos that much cuter.

I did newborn pictures but woke up late, no time to do anything with myself, missed an hour of my 3-hour session, and it took about 45 minutes for her to fall asleep. So, I didn't get to take any with her, and I still feel sad about that. :( I was so sleep-deprived then!

The mom of one of my sons friends at school just lost her baby at 35 weeks (rough pregnancy as baby had a bad cleft and warning flags for other genetic concerns). We aren't really friends but I frequently run into her at school and we stop and chit chat. What is appropriate for me to do? What she is going through is hard enough, I want to make sure my reaction when I see her doesn't make it harder than it is. School sent out an email to the class letting us know and saying they need their privacy. Does that mean they don't want it mentioned? Do I just pretend it didn't happen? Just say sorry and nothing else? I don't have a physical address only an email.

Maybe get with other parents, sign a card get a small gift if everyone is willing and leave it with the school?
  • Any ideas on creative ways to cook chicken apple and gouda sausage links? I'm not sure what would go well with them?
I've made this recipe before- it's so good and easy!!! https://iowagirleats.com/2013/10/14/sweet-apple-chicken-sausage-pasta/

@Jessieann1020‌ I don't have the recipe with me but last year I cooked up similar sausage on the stove top with apples and sweet potatoes, with some other veggies.... Maybe celery? It was super tasty! The other recipe posted sounds good too!
  • My gift arrived at the office and I'm at home!!!! :-(( I'm totally stopping by the office on my way to class to pick it up.

If you order shit from the states do you pay duty tax?

Yup, DH ordered 1000$ worth if hockey equipment last week, cost him 160$ in duty. Still cheaper than buying it here.

    ETA: 1000$ not 100$

We are at the up on all fours rocking back and forth stage now.

Oh my gosh, already?!?! You'll be chasing her in no time!
DD1 was a 4m crawler. I was hoping to put this off until 6m or later this time. Maybe I'll get lucky and she'll decide she doesn't like it?

Ruined the roast. :(( I don't know what I did wrong! My MIL said I shouldn't have added water to the onion soup mix, but that would only affect the gravy's consistency, not the meat. I cooked it on low instead of high thinking that would make it tender, but no, it's tough and dry. :(( How can something cooking in liquids for 6.5 hours be dry!? Now she's telling me to cook it on high and maybe that'll help it be tender by dinner time, and I am but don't see the logic in that.

Why do I suck at cooking? :-<

  • Is dry or tough? Tough can mean it is undercooked

It's illogical, but there is a heat at which the meat sort of breaks down.  If it hasn't hit that heat yet, it won't be tender.

I would have done the same as you, add water and cooked it on low, so not sure what the issue was. The crockpot has always been hit or miss for me, though.

Well my MIL told me to cook it on high, but when I didn't know if I should add water to the onion mix or not, I consulted an online recipe instead of her since I knew she'd be sleeping. It said I could cook it on high for 4 hours or low for 8, and since I wasn't pressed for time, I wanted to do the lower setting thinking it would make it more tender. NOPE.

  • At this point cooking it longer won't hurt.

That's what I figured, so I thought what the heck, why not cook it on high for a couple more hours.

  • Whaaat? How does cooking it longer increase the likelihood of it becoming more tender? Not arguing, just genuinely curious!
