Re: Randoms and Questions 3.20 - 3.24

  • @SKZW I'm so sorry, hearing about that (especially losing the pets) is so sad.

I forgot who asked about where to keep the safe, we have ours in our bedroom closet.  You can bolt it down, but we haven't.  It is super heavy, and I couldn't move it if I tried.
  • @skzw so sorry to hear about that. I can't even imagine how devastating that would be.

We also have a small fire/water-proof safe that is kept in the master bedroom closet. It has our important docs and passports in it. No jewels or anything....yet.

Do we have a thread about hospital dr/nurse gifts yet? I didn't find it with the search, but I'm mobile bumping so who knows. Looking for ideas.

  • @jayandaplus  We have 3 safes but only use 2. Two of them are in our closet and we use 1 for papers. Then for actual items, we use the gun safe in the basement. Before I met H, I used my freezer, which is how I grew up. I think we got them all from Wal-Mart? If we can't go by reviews online, we look at similar items in store and try to go by weight. Not the greatest, but hopefully it works.
  • We have a large gun safe that is fire/water proof.  We keep important paperwork and valuables in the safe.

    Question?
Has anyone had experience w/ a chiropractor while pregnant?  I've never used one ever so I'm a little skeptical.  My OB suggested trying one due to my upper right quadrant abdominal discomfort. I had a full workup last week. US and bloodwork came back normal so there isn't a medical concern.  Yay for peace of mind, but boo for the continued discomfort.  Just curious to know if anyone with similar issues got any relief from seeing a chiropractor.
  • @clebl24 I see a chiro for hip pain/sciatic and it has helped. I was able to find one who specializes in prenatal treatment so they have a special table with a belly pad so that everything is safe for baby. They also showed me stretches I do at home in between to help manage the stiffness and discomfort.
  • @clebl24 I have been going to a chiropractor since about 14 weeks. One trip won't really do too much but going once or twice a week really helped with SI joint and hip pain. I go weekly still.

I was about sing my praises of my chiropractor again today since I just went yesterday. I was actually able to sleep last night, I feel good today, I don't creak every time I stand up, ahhhh.
I've had multiple ribs out of place multiple times this pregnancy which have caused a ton of discomfort until she popped them back in. I also had some sciatica pain she helped with. I feel pretty instant relief with some things chiropractic wise. There are other things where I'll still be sore that night, but feeling a lot better the next day. I highly recommend seeing one (who specializes in maternity). I would be in tears if not for the chiro.

  • We have a small safe for documents. We keep it in a closet when we don't have an office. We also
got ours at Walmart. We will probably have to get something large soon, but for now what we have works.
  • Just a word of caution about waterproof safes. They are really good at containing mold and allowing it to cover ALL of your important documents. A good secondary location for your important things is a safe deposit box! No mold! (Hopefully)

We have been debating a safe deposit box, we have a safe/ lock box currently but it's definitely not water or fire proof.

  • I am currently laying on the couch eating ice.  I have only felt 4 kicks/moves today since 7am and not many last night.  I called the nurse and I guess we are trying to get him moving in the next hour or I am going in.

  • @clebl24 - yes to the chiro! She is the reason I make it through some weeks. They can align your hips and pelvis to help minimize some of the pain we get. The added weight of our bellies makes us stand differently than the way we would normally, and it can really throw things off. I started seeing one while pregnant with DS, continued afterwards about once a month, and have seen one this entire pregnancy. At this point, I'm seeing her one a week and there is a noticeable difference in my discomfort levels after seeing her.

@chickyclg - I hope you get some movements soon! It's such a scary feeling when they slow down. FX that it's nothing serious.

  • For all those that have been going to a chiro, how did you find one that specialized in prenatal? It could just be me, but I feel like I'm having a hard time finding that information unless I was to call each one individually.

And peanut butter with chili? Huh. @nda_roxybabe
  • @MoshiMoshi7 - I found mine through a recommendation, but you could either Google "pregnancy chiropractic near me" or try asking your OB. They may have some connections.

  • @MoshiMoshi7 I found mine on the google and then verified with my insurance to make sure they were covered. I just searched prenatal chiropractor and my zip code.
  • @MoshiMoshi7 A friend just happened to recommend one and they just happened to specialize. I think it says on their website. Yelp maybe?

  • @PghMom412 Thanks for the heads up! :) I have done some Googling and found that they can also cement a retainer on to your teeth!

My ortho said we could go over my options once we get there.

  • @CarmCeG Hooray for being close to being done! Those cemented wires are awesome, but most people's bites won't allow for the wire on the upper teeth. A removable retainer is usually still needed for the top. Also, those wires are a huge magnet for tartar buildup as they are difficult to clean around. We tell patients if they aren't going to floss every single day the wires may not be the best option.

  • @CarmCeG what @PghMom412 said! I got my braces off 3 weeks before DD was born and I totally slacked on wearing my retainer and now my teeth aren't straight and I regret it every.single.day.

  • @CherryBananas yes, I found some bad reviews on them, but its obvious that the person did not care for their teeth. I prob will end up getting a traditional retainer, because I'm sure the cemented retainer cost a bit more. My ortho treatment is 18 months which is in October *fingers crossed* but I really hope, come 2018 I am BRACE FREE!

@MrsFox2008 I've heard they deff move fast if you don't wear your retainer! Before I got my braces I got real curious about caring for them.. I watched a lot of youtube vids lol

I found a video of a guy who didn't wear his retainer and his teeth became even more crooked than before. He was warning ppl to wear their retainers.

  • @clebl24 I've gone to my chiro while pregnant and he's solved any sciatica pain that may pop up. But that seems to be the extent, so I would highly recommend looking for one who definitely knows their prenatal population instead of a general one like mine.

@nda_roxybabe I use to put peanut butter in my chili all the time...I love it.

@beachmommy2b, @kayemjay2 - I feel like I need to clarify: I definitely DON'T think that salary should come into play in division of labor. I only mentioned it because it was briefly mentioned in the article, and I feel like it always comes up in articles about household labor. I do think that the person working more hours away from home or the person who has a more physically demanding job has a case for getting more leeway, except that only comes into play at our house for 1/2 of the year because DH's job is very different depending on the season.

@Louise_Belcher, I'm in the same boat where my threshold for cleanliness is lower than DH - I'm kind of a neat freak - so I give him some slack for not noticing the things that bother me. He has gotten better about it over the years, but I'm not going to expect him to dust the ceiling fans when he would never notice that they're dirty.
