@hp_momma we did allergy testing at 2 after we had self identified egg and dairy at about 6-7 months old. Our allergist said we could wait a couple years and then come back around 4 or 5 and do some blood work to see if some allergies resolved or if he would be a good candidate for desensitization. She didn't mention routine testing for new allergies so maybe you could call and ask? Or more likely see if your PCM will put in a new referral to go back?
I should probably just send a Relay Health message to her doctor and see if she will send us over for a retest. We've never actually seen an allergist either, maybe it's time to go down that path. We have a referral in to go see ENT for possible tonsil issues (croup 4 times this season!) and of course the only pediatric ENT is deployed, so now Tricare is wanting to refer me to an outside general ENT. I don't want a general ENT, I want a pediatric ENT! So now I have to argue with them about changing the referral.

@Jkp7749 We did a full blood panel instead of the skin testing. Our pediatrician at the time recommended it because he said it would be easier for her age.
@Squirtgun Ok now I really think I need to get in with the allergist! We've never seen one, just the allergy test ordered by the pediatrician and then they told us the results.

I had an appointment today, and now I'm super grouchy. Dr. had a long talk with me about starting steroid shots for lung development (history of preterm super fast labor) and he decided that he will wait on those for a couple of weeks. Which seems like the right choice, so I'm good with that. BUT he wants me on "limited activity" for the rest of my pregnancy. No housework, no bending down to pick up my kids, etc. I'm not allowed to go for walks in my neighborhood because he doesn't want me pushing a stroller on a hill. So, of course I want what is best for this little guy, and I will do it! I'm just grouchy because it's spring and I can't just take the kids for a walk like we've been doing every day. And I feel horrible complaining because I'm thrilled that this little guy is sticking it out so far, and seems super healthy! Ugh, feel free to ignore my vent/ grouchyness.
When you say croup, does it last more than a day? Every time DD has a cold, she wakes up one of the first nights with the seal-like barking cough. It settles to a more productive cough by the next night. She's had it twice in the last month. Is that croup? I've been worried that she's got an underlying issue (asthma or tonsils) but I could be overthinking.

I know it varies by provider but I adore our allergist. Being the army they see a ton of peds and having everything in the same system makes things so much easier. We left loaded to the gills with free benadryl, epi pens juuuuust in case, and they did all of our CYS paperwork for on post daycare/activities.
She actually picked up on some things we hadn't thought about like if you are allergic to X you may want to test for Y and laid out a long term plan for us. Plus you know, while you are still in a magical place where nearly every specialty under the sun is at the hospital take advantage.
@squirtgun sorry about the limited activity. That has to be so hard with kids at home. Especially when they may not understand why things have to change.
@hp_momma. We deal with allergies too: peanuts (based on reaction and blood work), milk and egg (based on blood work,) and shrimp and crab (based on reactions at home). I think LO has outgrown egg allergy. Weird bc he does fine with crawfish.
Our pediatrician doesn't reccomend the skin test this early. He's 2.5, but doc offered to do a challenge test in the office after he turns 3. My kid is a picky eater and it terrifies me to let him try new things. He usually throws up immediately after consumption if he's allergic, but sometimes he also gets a rash, hives and swelling. I always sleep with him following an allergic reaction.
I hope this baby doesn't share his/her sibling's allergies.
I'm sorry @squirtgun. I'm getting to the point where I need to think about how I'm going to explain to my 2-year-old that I can't pick him up. I still can, but its getting harder and I will be having a mastectomy in about 6 weeks which will completely stop any and all toddler carrying.
@NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot I usually treat her croup at home (since it's just viral) but we had to go in twice this winter for a steroid dose because she just couldn't kick it. Croup usually lasts a few days and is worse on the third night. I'd try a humidifier in your DDs room and see if that helps!
My DD had RSV before 1 and has had to use a nebulizer for "asthma like wheezing" on multiple occasions, and we have croup multiple times a year so I think it's just been the final straw of "ok let's go see ENT and check out the tonsils"!

@hp_momma Good to know. This cough seems to be more of a symptom of a regular cold and the awful sounding cough only lasts a night. We do have a humidifier we use when she's sick. We've never had a nebulizer, but I often suspect that might help. I'll ask next we see her ped. Thanks!
I'm sorry some of you ladies are having to deal with not carrying your toddlers. I know it is probably emotional on the mommas and hard for the littles to understand. I asked OB today the best way to carry mine. I'm guilty of putting him on top of my belly and supporting him with my arms. Apparently that is a no-no. She suggested hip or back. I almost laughed bc there is no way I'm putting him on my back.
@WombThereItIs I think we never got referred to an actual allergist in the beginning because we were seeing a civilian pediatric office and they are definitely more cautious with their referrals outside. I think my pediatrician now would probably just send the referral over without even questioning now since like you said "were in the hospital with every speciality under the sun!" Lol
@clebl24 So far her only allergy is dairy and dogs. I was surprised shellfish didn't pop up for her since I have it and multiple members of my family have it but pediatrician said that one usually pops up later in life. Her only reactions so far have been a rash and her eczema gets really bad. Last nights "my tongue hurts" made me nervous! Hope your next LO is allergy free! DD2 has had an allergy test and had zero reactions!

What do you find works best?
I am right handed so I carry him on my left hip, always have since he has been big enough. I try to minimize carrying time though because it gets uncomfortable and he is really good about doing stairs and whatnot on his own now. Also (early FFFC) since he is nearly 2.5 he is more aware I will sit him up on places near me instead of holding him. Recently the kitchen counter is a preferred toddler parking spot if he wants to be held around meal times. Our counters are really deep and the main part is like an island so he has lots of room.

This is what I do too. We are having lots of "hold me!" meltdowns with DD2 right now but my back just can't handle it. At one point she cried for a good thirty minutes while she army crawled herself around the room to get to me. She's only about 27lbs which is pretty petite for practically 3 but I know I need to get her used to me not carrying her now.

@Squirtgun - I'm sorry you are so restricted; 11 weeks is a long time to go without picking up your kids or going on walks but I guess every week you get with baby on the inside is a plus so I get it. So hard but well worth it! It's okay to feel a conflict of emotions -- I would feel the same if I was in your shoes!

I went to Target this morning to get Moana with my Cartwheel Perks reward and they took off that perk from my cartwheel. Made me so mad but apparently everyone was using their perk on Tuesday to get the movie so they ended up taking it off as a perk. On the plus side, I stopped by Guest Services and picked up my baby registry gift bag and it is awesome! It has so many good things! I kind of want to ask for another one next time I'm in.

@WombThereItIs , I WISH my kid would do the counter sit! 2.5 years old and he's an extreme safety freak. If I put him on the counter, he squeals "I'm going to fall! It's not safe!" And he throws a fit until one of us holds him. It's exhausting.
Mine is usually very safety conscious too @Kipperoo which is why I feel okay doing it. He won't really lean to grab things or move, he tried once or twice and looked super scared and told me "mommy, I no do it, I get hurt". I don't know many other two year olds that routinely stop themselves for fear of busting their face!
Sometimes he just wants mommy and at 33.5 lbs I just can't hack it like I used to. I want my next one to be a petite little thing, I think this one is fed rocks and lead pellets at daycare!

@Squirtgun: I was just coming on here to share my own freakout & seek advice, and I see here you're in the same boat!
I had an ob appt yest & the doc was concerned & sent me for some labs that came back today. I too was informed like an hour ago that I need to be on immediate modified bed rest. Same as you, no housework, no cooking, no activity, no driving, no doing anything except basically resting & getting up to pee. The nurse said it's the difference between standing at the stove for 3 hours making dinner & fixing myself a quick sandwich, which I'm allowed to do. My freaking out right now stems from not being able to do anything with my toddler: no walks, no being in the yard, no playing on the floor, nada. It's overwhelming. It's not fair to him. Of course, I'll follow the doc's instructions & want to provide the very best for the baby, but I'm just still processing & trying to figure out the logistics. I'm also assuming it's just temporary but the reality is that it could be a permanent state of being for the many weeks ahead.
For anyone else who still hasn't figured out their child care arrangements for during delivery time, let me be that real-life example for you. I've put off, for way too long, setting up meetings with potential babysitters & getting plans in place & trustworthy helpers on speed dial. I figured I had time but have been putting it off. And now I'm stuck. I hate being in this position---not the bedrest, but the not having people in place. So stupid of me! Idiot!
@SKZW Sorry to hear you need to be on modified bed rest, too. Hopefully you're able to find the care you need for your son quickly to help ease that worry for you.
I basically pick up DD to get in a basket at the store that's it. It's too much to pick her up at this point. If she wants me to hold her I sit down and she climbs on my lap.
@SKZW - Don't be so hard on yourself! Things happen and if you had a normal pregnancy the first time, there would be no reason to think it would be any different the second time around. Fx that restrictions are in place only for a little while.

Pretty much the same except mine had a Dr Brown's bottle and a mam pacifier which is what my kids have used so far. The coupons were really great too... baby apparel, diapers, nursing and maternity apparel, and to all the samples included.

@SKZW aw man! It sounds like you have harsher restrictions than I do! I'm still allowed to drive and cook simple meals. I'm also still allowed to play on the floor with them and play outside. (We have a fenced in backyard, so playtime pretty much consists of me sitting with a bunch of pillows under a tree while the girls run around and play.) Hopefully you will have your support system in place quickly! I've pretty much just told husband I'm sorry, he's going to have to pick up all the housework. My SIL (his sister) just had a baby this week, so I know from experience (from when she had her older son) that his entire family (in town) will be totally focused on supporting her for the next month or two. So, we haven't even told them yet about my restrictions and probably won't unless we absolutely have to. But my sister (out of town) is on standby to come help if I get harder restrictions. I just got that set up this afternoon, though. No forethought from me either!
