Re: Randoms Thread: March Edition!

  • @AnnaS930 luckily I have an appointment with my OB next Tuesday so I'm going to wait to start it until after I've discussed it with him. I got the recommendation to take aspirin from the perinatologist that did my NT scan. (I didn't even know this was something that could be found on the NT scan.) Everything I've read is that it's safe and effective. My hesitancy comes from the fact that I have literally zero risk factors. But I guess better safe than sorry.

  • Go away morning sickness! I would like to hold down some calories today.
:'( I am down 7 lbs from my first appointment a month ago and I was already underweight. #whenwillitend
Ugh. I feel you. I had lost 6 lbs in 3 weeks. Finally got my hands on some Diclegis and it totally changed everything. May be worth looking into if you can afford it or get some samples. I hope your sickness goes away ASAP!!

  • @AnnaS930 I love that he puts the blankie in his mouth! So cute!

DD has one of those aquariums, too, and I always know when she's up because the first thing she does is turn it on. Sometimes she'll proceed to dance.  She ended up sleeping until after 9 this morning. I can't tell if DLS is messing with her or if it's the ear infection. I know DLS is messing with my sleep, tbough. Boo.

So sorry to those ladies who had a rough night. Hope your day is better.

I came here to whine about my NT scan yesterday. The scan itself was great. Baby looks good. But I'm supposed to go on baby aspirin because the blow flow showed the "potential" to develop pre-e. I have literally zero other risk factors. Just doesn't sit right with me.

I had pre-e with my second. Without a doubt, it was the worst experience of my life. Worse than the c-section I needed with my third.
If my memory is correct, pre-e develops because the baby isn't getting the nutrients it needs. Sometimes this is because of the way the placenta is attached to the uterus, sometimes it's for another reason. There is a lot that is unknown about pre-e. When my scan with my third showed a potential to develop pre-e I talked with my doctor a lot about preventing it. She did mention that taking baby aspirin is thought to help, but we didn't go that route. My doctor recommended taking an omega-3 supplement, with the thought that maybe those were the nutrients that my second baby didn't get.
When I was first diagnosed with mild pre-e I didn't think much of it. I'd never heard of it before and I didn't think it was anything to be worried about. Maybe if I'd listened to my doctor and stayed in bed like I was supposed to it wouldn't have turned into severe pre-e. When you are diagnosed with severe pre-e there is a 24 hour time frame to get the baby out. So I was induced at 34 weeks. The only risk factor I had was being white. I wasn't "old", it wasn't my first baby, there was nothing to indicate that I could get it. Until my 32 week appointment when I had high blood pressure.

I don't know if I added anything helpful, just make sure you know what pre-e is and what the possible outcomes are before deciding not to take the baby aspirin.

edit: I'm sorry if my tone is harsh, I should probably just avoid talking about pre-e. It's kind of a sensitive topic for me. I read your other thread and it sounds like you have a handle on the situation.
  • It's going to be a fun next 6 months. My OB said starting at 12 weeks no sleeping on my back. That's tomorrow but I'm a back sleeper so I've been trying to adjust... Numb hips are a weird feeling..

  • @camichael84 - we call him Linus, he loves his blankies like nothing else. We did a pacifier for the first few months, but with his first cold (3 months) he couldn't hold it in his mouth while congested. So he weaned himself off of that real quick.. somewhere over the past year he decided to soothe himself by suckling the corner of a blanket. Hey - whatever floats your boat! My BFF dentist didn't see any problems with it (I didn't want it drying out his mouth too much, since that's bad for teeth), so we let it go.. I'm happy it's something he can put back in himself when he needs it - uses it to fall asleep, and throughout the morning as he's dozing in/out.

He also watches his aquarium every morning - it buys me 10 minutes to come to life before getting him out of his crib.. amazing.

  • @LeahKnits definitely not harsh. I appreciate you sharing your experience. I absolutely know how bad pre-e can be and I am not taking this recommendation lightly. I just want to make sure I understand it all. It was just such a sudden recommendation. We were enjoying seeing lots of detailed views of my baby - told by the tech and the doctor that everything looked great...except for this blood flow thing. I had no idea this was even something the NT scan could find. Not to mention, I'm seriously the healthiest person in the world. I've never taken anything more than an antibiotic and never had any BP concerns, even while being on BC forever. Definitely going to ask my OB about taking omega 3. But I do have a bottle of aspirin ready to go for after I see my OB next week.

@sporty1216 Oh, hell, no. I'd be tossing that jar out and DH would have to deal.

@ammcc12 Did your OB say why at 12 weeks? I've always heard 20 weeks to stay off your back and mainly staying off if your flat. I was still on my back until the end with DD so long as I'd propped my head/shoulders/chest.

Yeah, that sounded like an early recommendation to me too... is it specific to you/any health concerns? Please don't feel like you need to share, I'm being awfully nosy.  Staying off your back is to get the best bloodflow right? I seem to remember being told that if it doesn't make you light headed you're ok... but perhaps there's still poor bloodflow to other things? The uterus?  I'm super uninformed.. but usually spend the final hour of sleep on my back late in pregnancy, with a pillow or two to give me a bit of a prop

Ugh @faeriem don't know what happened to us but what a crappy night (see what I did there?) I was able to get some sleep after that. Belly is still making some scary noises this morning and I am staaaaaarving but afraid to eat. My husband said he felt fine, so hoping it's not food poisoning 2.0
I see what you did there ;) I'm starving too! So far I've kept down goldfish crackers and white bread and a little bit of lemon water, but I've been really careful this morning. I'm still feeling pretty off. Hopefully I feel better soon. Are you feeling any better? Looks like you've been up for a while.

My best friend's entire family had it about a week ago. Now her oldest has the flu. WTF. I'm fairly certain Nellie had the stomach bug last week, but at least it was really quick.

  • @faeriem Thank you! I feel perfectly fine this morning.. I'm sure it will be followed by 3 or 4 days without need for the bathroom now. Ugh.. vicious cycle. I have had brown sugar cinnamon poptarts, some powerade, and I am thinking about a wrap or an Italian for lunch. We only had salad at home and that was not appealing when packing a lunch at 6:30am. And of course some chips. Might as well find those 3 pounds I lost!!

  • I was going to say I haven't heard of much illness going on around here but today I can hear three different people cough around me at work....

  • I am very patiently waiting for DH to get the kids out of the house this morning so that I can try and get some work done without any interruptions (outside of me bumping of course). But they just won't leave. I swear, DH has got some serious issues with getting everyone ready (himself included) and out of the house at a decent time. Besides, I'm super annoyed with work and I don't want the possibility of getting crabby with any of them over work crap.

  • I have a parent complaining that her daughter's grade in AP Physics 2 dropped from a 93 to an 88 because of a low test grade.  Mostly, she's upset because it happened right at the end of a grading period.  Okay, fine, I explained everything to her as best I could.  Plus, this is exactly the grade she had all last semester.  Only problem, now I've been called down to the vice-principal to "talk about it".  I don't know if I'm in trouble or not, but I'm pretty irritated and anxious now.

  • @Jabreen -- I hope your administration has your back! I work with grade-anxious students too and hate these kinds of situations! I try to remind them that it's not the grade I gave them, it's the grade they earned...but they have to have ears to hear, and often they don't. Good luck!

Fast forward to 6:45 this morning. Someone did not want to wake up. Took a few minutes of me rubbing his back and whispering to him to wake up (I hate startling him awake). Then I finally said at a normal volume "Emmett.. you aren't fake sleeping are you?" His little corners of his mouth made a smile and he turned away with a chuckle. What a little sneak!!!

You've got a blanket sucker too?? We finally had to cut the corner of my sons blanket off! It had gotten soooo gross. I was surprised how well he did. But that Blankie still goes everywhere. At least it doesn't have a wet soppy corner anymore!

  • @Jabreen - I was the annoying high schooler that would have been upset about that.. but I wouldn't have complained to the teacher about it.. and my parents were always telling me to loosen up and live a little more so they absolutely would not have talked to the teacher.  People really need to look at the bigger.  Also - a grade is an average. A bad test score is a bad test score, you live with those consequences.

  • @mhilpisch10 - oh do we ever!!!  Luckily he isn't picky about his blanket as long as it's that flannelly cotton of a receiving blanket (which is perfect.. we got a pack of 6 at the baby shower and had zero use for them until he took a liking to sucking on them).  We're able to put a couple in his crib each night (to make sure he can find one in the dark) and rotate them through the wash twice weekly. It's hilarious.. he puts an edge in his mouth and moves it all around until it's the perfect spot, then suckles away. God forbid he gets the tag... rips it out as if it's disgusting.
I am definitely going to check corners to see how we're doing on levels of yuck.

I just love this little nugget man.

  • @runningisrad jealous of your riverwalk! I bet it's beautiful! In my neighborhood, it's a mile on sidewalks to the highway and then back, so I try to do that every day it's nice. The hills are hard with the double stroller!

  • @AnnaS930 oh that's so nice he's a little flexible. Sebastian would only suck on ONE corner on his ONE blanket! We tried different blankets that were similar. Nope! Haha it would be so difficult to wash! Sebastian was the same with rotating the blanket until he found his corner. When we cut it he rotated it like 50 times haha. I was totally ok with it until even washing it couldn't remove the smell.

@runningisrad - I'm a super fast walker (it drives people crazy.. but I don't like to just meander about.. I'm always on a mission). When pregnant my shins hurt like hell when I walk more than 10 minutes.. feels like they're on fire. Not sure if it's a shift in my center of gravity or what, but yowsa!!  Not letting it slow me down!

I've noticed that if I don't pace myself right now I get dizzy and my legs get tingly. I don't know if it's a blood sugar thing, a "I have been sedentary for three months" thing or just a pregnant thing, but it's irritating. I try to walk fast, but I am short and stocky so it's tough. I am basically built like a corgi.

  • While rocking DD for her nap, she let's out a huge fart on me then looks up with a huge grin on her face. Or course I laugh, then she laughs and soon we're both cracking up over it like we're middle school boys.

Now I'm hoping she takes a short nap so we can go outside and play. I think it's the last nice day we are supposed to get for a while.

  • @mhilpisch10 I love nicknames so much. We don't have specific ones for Emmett yet, one of the teachers at daycare calls him Emmy which makes me laugh because my sister's name is Emily ... so no, we won't be using that one but I don't care if someone else does. For now we have more pet names that have nothing to do with his actual name (bubba, weasel, munchkin, goober-boober), and sometimes we call him E-Mart (middle name is Martin). Can't wait to see what the world comes up with for him!
