Re: Randoms Thread: March Edition!

  • @runningisrad i love the river walk! I love Chattanooga! It's so weird having a bumpie from my town, my fingers are getting tired from having to love-it all your posts and tag you in everything. We should be labor buddies. :)
Riverwalk is awesome. Except my doctor said that doing most of my last half-marathon long training runs on it contributed to my knee issues. Whoops. Stupid concrete.

And word! Where are you planning on having this baby?
Erlanger Women's East. That's where I had Eleanor and my OB's office is directly behind it. It's only 10 minutes away from our house so, yeah, I'll take it. My experience there was pretty great. I'm not even sure how labor buddies work because I didn't have one on my last BMB, but you are due about 2 weeks after me, so it would be likely we wouldn't be in labor at the same time. I think labor buddies text or PM back and forth and then the labor buddy updates the board on how everything is progressing. At least I think that's how it works. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

    @runningisrad & @TheTamedShrew I'm totally jealous of your connection!
  • Oh also @runningisrad after I read your post yesterday I mentioned grilling burgers at Renaissance Park to DH. He loved the idea so we grilled out and watched the sunset and the view of the city across the river on the north shore.  So gorgeous. Thanks for the idea!

  • @nativetexan512 Thanks!

Both my husband and I come from two child families with one boy and one girl (he has an older sister, I have an older brother), so I think that's the main reason we both want one of each (and then maybe a third), but I can see why it would be nice for a boy to have a brother to grow up with.

  • I have two girls and a boy... I love the gap between my girls (5 years) because they'll never have to share friends, fight over boyfriends (when they're young), be close in school, would be less likely to share clothes, etc. I am really rooting for a boy, because then the boys would be in the same situation... 5 years between them. I love the idea of having 3 girls and a boy, but I really just hope for my son that he can have a brother. This is most likely our last baby... That said, I adore my girls and wouldn't mind my son being my only mamas boy ;) we'll wait and see!

I'm also super jelly of all the mamas having twins... I was secretly hoping for twins this time.

That's where I had Nellie & that's where I'm having this one too! I loved the facility. I have a different team this time (seeing a midwife and a super natural birth friendly OB). If labor buddies work here like they in ivillage that's exactly how it works. I had a girl who I exchanged numbers with and updated the board when she was in labor, had the baby, etc.

  • Well, apparently my body is allergic to pampering! Went to a high-end spa with my BFF on Monday and was treated to a slew of prenatal services. My stupid self shaved my legs in the morning because I knew I'd have a massage and didn't want to be a prickly cactus. Ok, so I was smooth legged, but the oil they used triggered a reaction with the skin on my legs and now it looks like I have a dozen bug bites on each leg and they itch like crazy. UGH!!! Not doing that again!
Though I will say that my back feels much better after the massage!

  • I like "board mates," @mom2adoodle !
  • Here's my random for the day:  does anyone sleep with a fan on for noise?  Both DH and I have since college and now it's hard not to.   If you do, can you still hear the baby monitor or have you had to ween yourself off of the fan?
  • @Sporty1216 @LizC216 This made me laugh... and the funny thing is that I work with college students, and even at that age, I know when they get too quiet, they're up to something!! :)

@AlwaysAuntNeverMom I've been daydreaming of popsicles... I think it's time to buy some.

@LakeR2014 I sleep MUCH better with a fan on, I am always sad when the weather turns colder and we don't keep the fan on anymore at night. Good question about hearing the monitor though, I'm curious what others have to say!
  • @LakeR2014 We sleep with a fan in the summer and a humidifier in the winter. Mostly for the white noise. I have no problem hearing the monitors. We keep them on our bedside tables.

In general, I feel like since having my girls, I hear more when I sleep or maybe I just wake easier. I was always afraid of sleeping through them crying or waking up, but it hasn't been an issue.

  • @LakeR2014 i have always slept with a fan, and now so does DD. I have never had a problem hearing her over both sets of white noise. In fact I have to turn the sensitivity down so that I don't wake up every time she squirms or squeaks. Monitors are really sensitive and so are mommy ears.

  • @LakeR2014 I've never had any problem hearing the monitor over the fan. My monitor goes up pretty high, so it actually makes more of a white noise sound than the fan does. It's also on my nightstand next to my head, so even when it's turned down low, I can hear her if she makes noise. Got to add, I love my fan! The only time it's not on is if I'm congested... like I've been almost this whole pregnancy. Boo.

Over the weekend, I felt intense pressure in my belly a couple times Saturday night and then throughout the day on Sunday.  Each time, my abdomen felt rock hard.  This happened a lot when I was pregnant with DD - but much later in pregnancy.  Sometimes, it was because she was in a weird position or "stretching".  Other times, it was due to contractions.  (I started having progressive contractions (meaning they were effective at dilating me) around 32 weeks so this went on for a while.)  When I experienced what I did over the weekend, I initially thought it was baby.  But then realized baby is way too small to be applying that kind of pressure just by moving around.  I had my 16 week appointment with my OB today and she confirmed that was unlikely and that it was more likely mild contractions.  Nothing to worry about, she said, unless they start happening cyclically (like 5 in an hour).  Honestly, I'm not really worried about it after talking to her (which is uncharacteristic of me.)  But what?  Contractions already?  Has anyone else experienced this?
@JennM205  I somehow missed this yesterday. I've never experienced early contractions, but I hope they ease up for you. Even if they aren't worrisome, I know they can't be comfortable.

  • @blondie080300 @camichael84 So far, no more contractions since last Sunday.  Luckily, the ones I was having weren't painful - unmistakably noticeable, but not painful.  Let's hope it stays that way (at least through 37 weeks)!

We sleep with a fan on always. It's not for me or DH, but for the kids. Our house is quite small and if the fan isn't on they hear every little noise we make after they go to sleep. I don't use a baby monitor because of the small house, but hearing the baby usually isn't a problem. I have slept through her crying a couple times, but that was when I was newly pregnant and so tired all the time. DH usually wakes me up if that happens.
  • @JennM205 Maybe they were braxton-hicks contractions? I haven't had them often, but I know it's common for them to start earlier with second or third pregnancies.

  • @LeahKnits It was definitely braxton hicks.  From what I understand, any contraction that occurs irregularly or sporadically (basically when you're not truly in labor) is considered braxton hicks.  (Though I could be wrong, I'm a little fuzzy on what the exact differences are...?)

  • Thanks for all the fan help ladies!  So glad we can keep our noise maker on and still hear the baby through the monitor.
  • Anyone else excited for March Madness? I haven't watched a single game this season, but for some reason I love sports tournaments/contests so I'm getting ready to watch the games at work.

  • Holy nightmares! Last night's nightmare was straight out of a Saw movie (except way scarier!) and I had to do a LOT of murdering to survive. And even the guy I trusted the whole time turned out to be a bad guy. I woke up way to scared to go back to sleep. Is anyone else suffering from crazy nightmares? Any tips on making them stop?
  • I also had a bad dream last night and couldn't get back to sleep. Instead, I got sucked into an infomercial and now I want to buy this foundation. I'm wondering if anyone has actually used it. It was called "Bye Bye Foundation" by It Cosmetics. Of course everyone that tried it look amazing and the applying process looked effortless. It's probably too good to be true, but I'm hoping it really is that good.

  • @Themaritimemama HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

@jennm205- BH is the worst :( sorry you're going though this so early. I would always have to slam some water and lay on the couch to feel better

  • Wait, yes there is something worse. Your toddler crying for daddy in the middle of the night. I tried to go in and get him and he scurried away. So, I tell DH he wants you I think he has poop. DH proceeds to go grab him and brings him in our bed poopie diaper and all!! Then he's kicking and screaming. Finally falls asleep with his poop butt stinking up the joint. I could not handle that. Picked him up after he calmed down and changed him and rocked him to sleep. Now I'm wide awake in the middle of the night. Sigh.

  • @Steephers123 I love March Madness!! I watch a good amount of college basketball but the tournament is just at a whole different level -- I love it. Watched most of the games yesterday (we had them streaming in the office), and I must say, my bracket made it out of yesterday in really good shape, upsets and all!
  • My butter fingers dropped and shattered a one litre bottle of olive oil all over my kitchen floor :s  Trying to clean up a lake of slick oil and all the glass shards was not fun at all!
  • Thanks @RedMar ! The restaurant did not disappoint - soooo tasty.

@geminigirl16 that's a terrible way to start off the day! I imagine that was super gross to clean up
