Re: The Great Big Queston Thread!

  • @lucyg00cy ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ I wish I would have responded with that. I said thanks for calling me fat mom. And she felt bad enough.ย

  • Ugh. I hate all those weight comments when someone is pregnant. People just need to shut their mouths unless they had a hand in making the child or are one of the doctors monitoring the pregnancy.

  • @lucyg00cy The face comments are the worst. It's bad enough to deal with people talking about belly weight when it's excused by pregnancy, but the face part is another level. I remember feeling really self-conscious about my health during my first pregnancy. Looking back, I hope this one goes as well as the first one. I felt huge, but I also received compliments about how it looked like "all belly" for most of it, so I was hanging in there trying to feel positive. Then, right around 6 months, someone in the family said I was carrying extra weight in my face and it just shattered my self esteem. It's funny how it takes so little negativity to overpower so much positivity. I didn't say anything at the time, but it clearly affected me if I'm writing about it 8 years later. Now I don't put up with anything like that. I will put that person to shame in front of everyone that's around us. Don't be rude and expect that I won't call you out on your $h!t. (Last comment directed at my family - especially my grandma - not lucyg00cy lol)
  • @jhysmath right! I do realize people say it out of excitement and itโ€™s mainly the delivery of them noticing a growing baby which isnโ€™t always done in the best way. Itโ€™s just tough when weโ€™re tired and already trying to deal with the changes. Iโ€™ve definitely been more self conscious than I thought Iโ€™d be now that I am the one who is pregnant. Not that I was ever a size 2, but seeing the weight gain and not being comfortable in clothes anymore is a lot to take in.
  • Question from that one off post, my midwives have not measured fundal height yet, anyone else in the same boat? I am curious to what mine looks like seeing how last pregnancy I measured 1.5 weeks ahead.ย
  • @jhysmath My doctor doesn't start until the 20 week appointment, I believe. Have you had yours yet? Mine is tomorrow, so I should be able to confirm then.
    DD 10/2019
  • That's what I thought too, but when she said she was 16 weeks I was like hmmm I can't remember if it was earlier now or not. I'll have my 20 week next week the day before 21 weeks.ย

@jhysmath She's pregnant with multiples, right? Doesn't that change the game?

ETA: Whoops. Disregard. I now see the post you were referencing.

  • @trapperkeeper87 I guess I missed that.ย
  • @jhysmath with my son, I was with my family doctor until 20 weeks and he never measured fundal height but with this baby I started seeing my OB at 12 weeks (new change since Covid) and she measured me. So I really donโ€™t know what the rule is. I read online itโ€™s only really accurate after 20 weeks ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ
  • @jhysmath I just had my 20 week appt yesterday and they havenโ€™t started measuring me yet. So Iโ€™m not sure when thatโ€™s suppose to start. It completely slipped my mind yesterday to ask my midwife.ย
  • They haven't started measuring mine yet either.
    Current pregnancy -
First BFP on 1/4/22.ย  Due date 9/13/22.

Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.

  • I had my 20 week appt and no measurements. But, the anatomy scan was the same week, so maybe they were just waiting for those measurements instead.ย
  • We measured 5 days behind at 9w3d u/s, then 6 days behind at 11w6d. I'm assuming they used fundal height, as they placed the little crosshairs on the images. Both times our OB said we wouldn't move the due date since it was still within the window by 1 day. I'm very curious to see how he measures next week!
  • @leannechristina Fundal height isn't measured by an ultrasound, but instead by a tape measure your doctor uses on your stomach (pubic bone to the top of your uterus). The accuracy of it is debatable, but it can help gauge if you're on the right track at least. I think that's why some doctors opt to not do it.

  • At my 16 week appointment, the midwife felt the top of my uterus but did not break out the measuring tape.ย
  • @jhysmath I just asked my midwife this yesterday and they said they start at 20 weeks and beyond! Because I felt like it started earlier with my other two, also.ย
  • Hey everyone! There was some talk a little while back about the possibility of moving this group to Facebook. Is that still a possibility?
  • @serenity_by_van @kboydbowman started a poll the other day. It's called group status I think

  • My OB office does it at 24 weeks

Has anyone gone through placenta previa with scheduled c-section? They told me there is a chance it moves by 32 weeks when they check again but didnโ€™t think it was very likely. I know there are proโ€™s to a planned c-section, but feeling a little sad about the change in plans.ย
  • knottie, did they give you more info on why they didnโ€™t think it was likely to move? Iโ€™ve never heard a doctor assume it wonโ€™t move this early on, but Iโ€™m not sure if my friends were just possibly in a different scenarioโ€ฆ?
  • @mokay19 Iโ€™m getting mixed information. Itโ€™s a complete previa so apparently thatโ€™s unlikely to move, but then they also said 90% move by the 32 week check? So Iโ€™m a little confused but just wanting to mentally prepare for the outcome that it doesnโ€™t moveย
  • Please donโ€™t give me too detailed responses because Iโ€™m feeling squeamish about asking ๐Ÿ˜…

Do abs always separate? Can it be prevented? How do you know if they are likely to separate?
  • Knottie, I agree that Iโ€™m not finding much research to make it seem mostly likely for it to not move. But itโ€™s good that theyโ€™re checking again at 32 weeks and youโ€™ll know for sure then!ย
  • Anyone been on progesterone during pregnancy? How long did you continue it? I went on this pregnancy after an unexplained miscarriage before. At my 20 week maternity appointment she was reluctant to renew my prescription, even though it โ€œcanโ€™t hurt, but could helpโ€ and causes me major headaches if I ever miss a dose โ€ฆ Like, why stop it if it canโ€™t hurt but could help ??? Itโ€™s a hormone that already exists and should be increasing??ย
  • @pangolindrome mine never separated with my previous 2. I'm assuming it's like stretchmarks and everyone is just different. I imagine it has a lot to do with your anatomy and the size of baby, etc.ย

@melyrae I'm still on progesterone daily.ย  My OB put me on it for my 15wk miscarriage last time and she wants me to stay on it until term. She said they usually stop at week 13 but it won't hurt to continue so she just wants me to stay on it. She wrote me enough refills to last my entire pregnancy when I was 6 weeks.ย

  • @pangolindrome my abs never separated with my first either. I agree with @melyrae that itโ€™s different for everyone.ย
  • I'm still on Progesterone and have at least enough to last me another month and a 1/2. I'm not sure how long they're going to have me stay on it. I got the same it may or may not help but it certainly can't hurt response.

  • @pangolindrome I have about a 1.5โ€ separation. I had a 9lb baby and Iโ€™m 5โ€™ 100lbs pre pregnancy and about 110 post. So ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ roll the dice lolย
  • @melyrae Iโ€™ve only had first trimester losses so I only took my progesterone through 12 weeks.ย

@pangolindrome my abs separated a lot with my first, but I didnโ€™t know it was even a thing so I never fixed it. Then with my second, it caused me sooo much pain during pregnancy. I did PT after him and had a 5-finger separation. About 6 months after I started lifting and regularly doing my PT, I was able to shrink it down to one finger. Now with this third, the moment my body had pregnancy hormones, my abs just gave up again. So Iโ€™m back in PT during this pregnancy to hopefully limit the back pain and make recovery faster!
  • @pangolindrome mine separated about 2 finger widths, maybe a bit more, last pregnancy. Then about 9 months post partum I was at PT for something else and asked if she'd check and she said they were back to normal. I haven't really checked yet but I was noticing a ridge down my belly the other day so I'm guessing they're moving apart. Lay on your back and slightly lift like you're going to do a sit up. You're belly will get really point with a ridge going up and down if they're separated.ย

Is anyone else experiencing hip pain? No matter which side I lay on, my left hip hurts. I have tried sleeping with the pregnancy pillow, adding pillows between my knees, even sleeping sitting up and it still hurts. I am thinking itโ€™s sciatic nerve pain. Does any moms know how to alleviate the pain?ย
  • @1stbabydue0912 I get terrible hip pain with my pregnancies. A chrio can do wonders, but it doesn't last long. I have a sciatica pillow this time and it seems to work better than the pregnancy pillows did. It has more support than the others.ย
  • @pangolindrome my midwife told me this week that mine have already began to separate. I didnโ€™t even know it was a thing. She told me it typically happens around 25-30 weeks, but every woman is different and Iโ€™m petite 4โ€™11.ย
  • My husband's birthday is coming up in a few weeks (EEK how is it almost May?!) Any good gift ideas for first time dads to be?
  • @bigworldlittleg I bought my husband airpods shortly after our LO was born and they ended up being a great gift! He loved/still loves listening to music or a podcast while he holds and rocks our babe!

@jhysmath I didnโ€™t know a sciatic pillow existed. I will look into it. My aunt sent me this video today to help the pin with a tennis ball. Iโ€™m going to try it today and tell you if it helped.ย
