Re: The Great Big Queston Thread!

  • I also really, really like the Calm app.  I put on one of the musical selections every night before bed and set a timer for a couple hours on it.

  • Hey there. My doctor is trying to figure out if I have gestational diabetes, so I’ve had to track my blood sugar 4 times a day. I can’t do the glucose test because I already take Metformin because I have prediabetes. I try to set reminders on my phone to take my blood sugar. That helps me.
  • I passed out at 8:30 because I was so tired from the last two nights of insomnia. Now, I’m awake at 11:30 instead of 2:30. Sigh. At least by the time I fall back asleep I may get more than an hour before the alarm goes off 😩
  • For stress reduction, you can try grounding techniques, meditation, mindfulness, watching your favorite TV show, reading a book, taking a walk, doing something that relaxes you. Myself I work probably 50 hours a week.
  • @pangolindrome Those are cute and reasonably priced for maternity jeans! I may order a pair too. I always struggle because I feel like a lot of maternity jeans give you that weird saggy crotch.
  • @pangolindrome I think I might try some Maternity Jeans with Try Before you Buy on Amazon Prime! I didn't think about that until I was just looking at that pair. If you have Prime, you can order up to 6 things and try them for 7 days and you only pay for what you keep. It's free to return everything else!
  • I have an antibiotics question! I’m 18 weeks + 6 and was diagnosed with a UTI. My OB prescribed Bactrim and I’ve been taking it for a few days now. I decided to google the prescription and it seems like it’s not really recommended (mostly stressed in the first trimester).

My question is, does anyone have experience taking this medication? Should I tell me OB what I found online about it not really being recommended?
  • They put me on Bactrim last month (also for a UTI). It's fine in the second trimester - first and third are discouraged, but sometimes it's the only one that works in which case it's prescribed.

Also, welcome to the forum!  Please stop by the Introductions thread and introduce yourself.

  • Awesome, thank you so much and I def will!
  • Hey guys, I’m 18w with a posterior placenta and a normal build, and I haven’t felt any fetal movement or quickening yet. I know there’s a range, but I just want everything to be ok. Any STMs or TTMs out there remember when you started to feel movement?

You should feel it soon, so try not to stress. With a first baby it's difficult to decide if that's what you're feeling or just a normal bodily process like gas. I felt it around 18 weeks with my daughter, but it still might be a few weeks before you can be confident that's it. Try drinking some orange juice or something sugary and then lying down still. You might feel something then.

  • @nikkiduh I’m currently on Bactrim for a stubborn UTI. As it was explained to me it’s perfectly safe in 2nd trimester so I wouldn’t worry too much. Keeping my fingers crossed for this time this actually works bc personally I’m tired of antibiotics. 😩

I’m 19 weeks as of yesterday and I have an anterior placenta. I only have for sure felt the baby once the other night - my bladder was bursting full at 4am and I felt a little fish turn around inside! So I think because the bladder was pushing my uterus up towards my side walls I could felt it. Haven’t felt it for sure since but I wonder about tiny little gas like feelings are probably it. I read that the baby is all cartilage and just starts forming bones around now- so it’s not super strong as you might think (I keep picturing how there is a mango inside my body that I can’t feel and it’s so weird!)
It is hard not to be able to regularly feel movement as you worry that something is wrong, but 18 weeks is still quite early in the range apparently. Some people don’t feel anything till after 20 weeks. I try to just imagine her moving around in there and keep talking to her and encouraging her to grow those little bones! :)
  • @knottie I'm 18 weeks tomorrow with a posterior placenta and I've just started feeling baby consistently the last few days. The first time was last Friday. This is my 2nd pregnancy. I'm pretty sure it's considered normal to not feel anything up until 25ish weeks so don't stress about it.
  • @babywiik thank you, this is so reassuring to hear. And I’m sorry my username won’t ever fix itself :( I’m @excitedlyexpecting but the app keeps deferring back to knottie :(

@excitedlyexpecting oh that's super annoying! Please be patient if we forget and tell you to change your username🙈 have you reached out to the bump admin to see if they can help change it? Oh and in the meantime, if it's not too big of a deal, you could sign your posts with your username so we can know its you and get to know you for you and not a random knottie. The bump really needs to work on all its quirks!!
  • Can I start a baby name thread? I'm needing some inspiration! Or is it too early?
  • @babywiik I’m totally for a baby name thread because I have zero thoughts right now

@excitedlyexpecting I didn’t feel my first move until 22 weeks and my second wasn’t until closer to 20 weeks, too. Don’t fret at 18 weeks!

  • How can I tell where my placenta is positioned? Did you ladies ask?
  • @babywiik Now that we told our in-laws the gender of baby yesterday they have been blowing our phones up with name suggestions and I hate them all and annoyed with all of them!! I wish they would shut up but I don’t know if I should tell them to knock it off or just ignore it! Idk why it annoys me so much!
  • @foreveronyourside That would annoy me SO much! Perhaps you could tell them you already have a few names you really like and are deciding between those. And that you will reveal the name after the birth. Ugh I feel annoyed for you though!!
  • @babywiik I'll make one momentarily!

@runsonanxiety It's something they can see on ultrasound, so you ca ask your doctor if they took note of it, or just ask at your next ultrasound.

  • @foreveronyourside one of the reasons I'm glad I'm team green. I hate when my family does this to my cousins. They also tell them whatever name they pick out is terrible. So that's why we don't share names until birth too.

I got the Levis skinny jeans from amazon and they’ve been great, but now I have a possible inkling of a bump and I’m already uncomfortable.
    What pants are y’all wearing?
I’m still a size 8/medium. My waist is just not going to accommodate the discomfort and I can’t either sit straight as a rod or lay down all day.

My SIL suggested these so I ordered a pair

Update: I hate these passionately. I tried them today for some short errands. The jeans part ends most of the way up my buttcrack and sits on the squishy part of my hip meaning they slip down and have to be readjusted every two steps OR I look like I have a poopy diaper. The jeans part fits flawlessly where it exists which is impressive for my dense calves, so… there’s that.
Returning them and have ordered these instead. I have some hopes.

  • @pangolindrome Those jeans are so cute. I’ve been having the bug to go shopping so bad (which I wanted to do today) but then I napped for 3 hours.

@jhysmath @bigworldlittleg With my son, we didn’t find out gender for that same reason. They still did the thing with the names but it was like oh well, I guess we’ll see! So it was easier to ignore. Glad other people think it’s excessive. My patience for the entire family is extremely short so sometimes I have to check myself!!!
  • @babywiik. Yeah that would annoy me as well. I told our family that we already have the babies name picked and will not announce until after the baby is born.

At my Aunt’s baby shower in August, My grandmother spoke to multiple people about how she wish my aunt would name baby something else and how much she disliked the name she chose. Then went to my aunt and uncle and told them her opinion and tried to get people around them to suggest other names that would be a better name. It was cringing to watch. This is why we won’t be telling anyone the name. They can have their opinions after my child’s birth certificate ink is dry.
  • @1stbabydue0912 I could totally see my MIL doing something like that with my SIL!!! Ahh!! I do however feel less scared of them the older my son gets and feel like I could tell them STFU and stick to my guns. A fight would definitely ensue if I did get to that point.
  • Anyone having Braxton hicks already? I am having them quite a lot - especially at night and especially if my bladder is full. I’m glad I have an appt (finally) tomorrow bc I’m starting to get a little worried about it. They aren’t painful but they are actually kind of uncomfortable. I got them a lot in my last pregnancy but I don’t think it was this early on…
  • @JRae2015
I've had a couple, its mainly when I haven't had enough water and I've gone for a long walk with the kids on their bikes. They went away as soon as I was back home and not physical again.
  • @JRae2015 I’ve been having them, most recently (that I have noticed) was while my midwife was measuring my fundal height the other day.
  • @JRae2015 I'm convinced I don't recognize them if I do, because I don't remember ever experiencing them last time or yet this time. Maybe I'm just not prone to them, or maybe I don't notice. Either way, right now I'm thankful to not have that kind of anxiety. Hopefully you can get some peace tomorrow!

  • @JRae2015 I can’t recall how far along you are (I’m 16 weeks now), but with my first I started having Braxton hicks on the regular around 20-21(?) weeks. My doctor said that was totally normal. Some people get them on the earlier side, some closer to after week 30.
  • @JRae2015 I have been having them too- since about week 17. Apparently it’s normal, my OB said some women notice them earlier than others!
  • Y’all with kids. How do you understand what toddlers (and below) say? Do you understand because they’re yours and you’ve had exposure?

It is gibberish to me. Always has been. I need to know if I’ll understand my kid 😂
  • @pangolindrome context is key. Otherwise I usually had no idea a lot of the time and just guessed. Figured out if I was wrong if they had a meltdown 😂
  • @pangolindrome Haha yes! You will understand them. I mean, not all the time, but you get used to hearing them say particular phrases, especially when you teach them certain words. But I totally get it, I hear other people's kid's say things and the mom just answers right back and I'm like "How the heck do you know what they said?!"
  • @pangolindrome LOL it’s definitely different when it’s your own just because you’re around them all the time watching them develop their speaking skills. I definitely don’t understand other people’s kids as well.
