The Great Big Queston Thread!

Re: The Great Big Queston Thread!

  • @1stbabydue0912 mine currently only hurts at night. As soon as I'm on my feet again I'm good.

  • What would you choose, drink as much as your thirst requires even if it’s literally right before bedtime and DEFINITELY pee 2-3 times at night or feel absolutely parched?

I always drink around a gallon (4L) in a day. It’s my body’s happy place and it’s been working for me for years. Before pregnancy I would try to stop drinking at like 7pm so I wouldn’t need to pee at night, and I wouldn’t need to drink more than a cup (2.4dl) to feel pretty satisfied. I’ve found it impossible to maintain that habit because unless I drink 3-4 cups of liquid less than an hour before sleep, I am just parched.

Thankfully, I go right back to sleep after peeing, but it’s a little frustrating. I’ve also never needed to moisturize so much in my life. Oh, and it HAS TO BE at least 50% carbonated water or I just feel thirsty regardless of how much I drink.

My bloodwork all looks good, everything looks good. I guess this is my body during pregnancy. I’m just curious what someone else might do.
  • When are you all planning your baby showers for? It looks like we’re aiming for June 19th (took the advice that many gave in this thread and decided to have it earlier rather than later when I’m more uncomfortable). Since the invites need to go out soonish, I’m stressing about finishing up the registry.

STM and TTM+, what are your must-have registry items for a first baby?
  • @pangolindrome I'd go for drink as much as you can and pee all night. I feel like poop if I don't drink what I should. I'll get a headache, sometimes Braxton hicks and often leg cramps and heartburn.
  • @pangolindrome
i haven’t been chugging water before bed, just having a glass or two after dinner through the evening. I find I usually wake up around 4 to pee, just the one time, and then if I drink more then I am not as parched by morning. But I sometimes forget and wake up thirsty.. I don’t know what’s better!

@serenity_by_van I also have June 19 for the shower due to recommendations from this crew!
  • @serenity_by_van Mine are May 22 (dependent on when my step daughter could come) and June 11.

@pangolindrome I’ve given up on not getting up to pee. I wake up 2-3x, but I can usually fall back asleep quickly. I just keep a water bottle by the bed now.

Thank you for the responses! I feel good that I’ve got a crew who all get up to pee because we gotta hydrate before bed 😂 the midwife who had my virtual appt today say some like to frontload their water intake and that just does not work for me.

@serenity_by_van I can’t even think about a baby shower yet! Now I feel like I should, but we have so many people talking about donating us things and with our very limited living space, we’re going to really have to limit ourselves to some basics.
  • @serenity_by_van I feel the same way! I’ve planned mine for June 11th (I’m due Sept 1) and just sent a text out as a “save the date” to the most important family and friends! I’ll send out official invites once the registry is complete. I did send my registry to a momma friend for feedback and she told me which items to scrap, and good brands to add for things like lotions! So I’ll continue to work on that, then do the “official” invites!
  • @serenity_by_van June sounds like a great time for a shower :) This is my second baby so I don't think I'll have a shower which is totally fine with me.

Some things I can think of that I put on my registry with my first baby:
    - lots of fitted sheets and mattress protectors for your crib (and for bassinet if you're using one), a few soft baby blankets
    - nose frida (100000% must have)
    - nursing pillow
    - some sort of swing for those early months so you can put down baby and actually get stuff done. I got a Graco one from my co-workers
    - bouncy lounger (cheaper alternative to a swing, but also handy)
    - lots of burp cloths
    - muslin blankets
    - bottles (we liked the Philips avent natural but Dr Browns are also popular)
    - a few different brands of pacifiers (if you're down with pacifiers) - babies are super picky hence why I'm suggesting a couple different ones until you know what they like
    - a diaper pail + refill bags (we like the diaper genie)
    - a play mat/activity gym for the floor for play and tummy time
    - a sound machine
    - baby bathtub
    - bamboo bath towels (yes, specifically bamboo. they are amazing and absorb water instantly) + soft washcloths for bathtime
    - a mirror to put on the back of your seat to see baby in their carseat (ours is jolly jumper)
    - jumpers are fun! not necessary, but fun if someone wants to buy you one (ours is fisher price)
    - a warm car seat cover if you have actual winter (just not ones that need to clip into the car seat straps, that's a no-no safety wise. ours just has an elastic you put over the car seat and a zipper to get baby in and out)
    - your carrier of choice
    - i didn't put this on my registry but you can also include baby spoons, plates, straw cups for later use, as well as a high chair

I didn't include many brand names because I'm not really loyal to any. Just take a look at those categories and pick whatever suits your style and your/your guests' budgets :) My husband and I just went to the store and scanned a whole bunch of stuff, it was fun. I purposefully didn't add any clothes because I LOOOVE shopping for baby clothes and wanted to keep that for myself haha but some people still bought clothes which was fine as well.
  • Too many people to @ but add me to the pee all night club. I am extremely busy at work and don’t get a chance to drink so when I come home I drink as much as humanly possible and get up at least 2 or 3 times to pee. I get such bad dehydration headaches that I’ve given up on trying to change myself and just do what I gotta do to keep up the hydration. I also will add about a cup of pedialyte too if I’m in the danger zone.
  • @newbabymama27 Thank you so much, this is a great list!
  • The idea of frontloading water baffles me...I mean, I guess it works? But I find I feel better if I drink when I'm thirsty. I was given two pieces of advice before my first Burning Man: drink every time you feel the tiniest bit thirsty, and drink every time you notice yourself licking your lips. I've been trying to apply both rules while pregnant, too. On very hot days I still need to force myself to drink even more often, but as a general rule it's been working pretty well.

I have no idea on the timing for a baby shower...I know I have a friend who would like to throw one for me, and also a sister in law who wants to. I don't know if that means I'll have two, or if I'll try to blend communities. I'm thinking sometime in June, maybe?

  • @lilienne I think June sounds good for a baby shower! I wouldn’t recommend August. Haha. I have a bunch of coworkers who have these absolutely giant jugs of water and force themselves to drink it and it bewilders me. I could never do it. Haha. I just need a little more water and less Diet Coke and coffee 🤣

    Test

sorry thought I’d be able to delete this, was trying to see if my username was fixed but it’s not :(
  • I took progesterone for first trimester only. It made me depressed. I have a history of depression and have come a long way to where I can manage it without medications. The progesterone made me want back on medications. A week and a half after being off progesterone, I'm back to my typical self.

I'd probably do June if I was having a shower.

I probably don't drink enough water. I get up in the middle of the night to pee only a couple times a week.
  • I'm chronically depressed so I haven't noticed any difference with the progesterone lol
    Current pregnancy -
First BFP on 1/4/22.  Due date 9/13/22.

Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.

  • I think we are aiming for the weekend before or after the 4th of july for our shower. We have a lot of family coming in town around this time so were going to capitalize on that!
  • Forgot who asked the hip question but yes to hip pain at night. I try to switch sides I sleep on and use a pillow between my legs. Seems to help a little.
  • At my anatomy scan they bumped my due date back. I know exactly what day I ovulated and I don't want to be 2 days less pregnant so I think I'm going to pretend that nothing has changed😂 also, I get really annoyed when dates aren't consistent. In Norway they set the due date as 40+3. I had this issue with my daughter also. At the beginning they would use their little calculator thingy and tell me how many weeks + days I was based on my last period. But then they start calculating weeks + days based on my due date and they're always 1 day behind. I've argued too many times with midwives that their calculations are wrong because I set the date of my last period (the same date I give them) in an app and the app doesn't change or lie to me. It's probably pregnancy hormones that make it extra annoying and make me want to argue. Oh and when I'd go to my midwife vs the midwife at the hospital for ultrasounds, they'd give me two different numbers🥴 yeah, I'm sticking with my Sept 10 =40 weeks and I graduate to the next week on Saturdays. If they want to bump my due date back feel free. The only thing it'll get me is and extra day or 2 to let baby come on their own time before being evicted at 42 weeks (their weeks. However they want to figure that out) and figures crossed baby won't wait that long anyways🤞🏼
  • @pangolindrome i know you’ve gotten a bunch of answers but YUH drink the water. I get parched right before bed and guzzle a ton and get up to pee like 5-7 times during the night. It’s annoying but I fall right back asleep but being thirsty is worse in my opinion
  • I'm a fan of the good old "drink when thirsty" approach.  I keep water in my bedroom bathroom, so if I need to drink in the middle of the night, it's there.  But water loading before bed is just a recipe for disaster.

  • @babywiik I was amused that my last scan gave us a bunch of different due dates - one for each measurement they took. When I looked into it a little further, the reliability of all of those measurements is pretty iffy and ultrasound measurements in general aren't the most precise. So...my due date could be September 20, September 23, or September 25th, according to the different measures. I know I have my LMP date right, but as I wasn't tracking ovulation I suppose it's possible I ovulate earlier or later than average? Who knows...I don't think they really know, but I certainly don't know either!  :D

Some complicated chromosomal stuff going on - our fingers are crossed, but this may not go according to plan!

  • @lilienne exactly! When I went in, according to the bump.i was 19+5. She measured the head first and told me I'm actually 19+4 and then after measuring the torso and legs she said 19+3. They can have their measurements but I get cramps when I ovulate so I know that date and it's the date I'm going by. Who wants to be less pregnant? Each day is an accomplishment and brings me closer to the finish line. It's all a guess anyways unless you've done IVF but still annoys me they can't keep their numbers straight.
  • @babywiik I calculate what my lmp should be based off my ovulation because I ovulate 8 days "late" and they refuse to go by my ovulation date with my first I didn't know that she based on lmp I wouldn't have been given time to actually have her because I had gd and they don't let you go post dates for that. By the first ultrasound they were also odd but 4 ish days. It was annoying. With my second I went in labor on the due date I gave.
  • For what it's worth, my ultrasound tech said that at this stage, measurements can swing up to 10 days different in either direction. My bub was measuring about 9 days ahead on the head measurement, 6 days ahead on length, and 1 day behind on something else (I can't remember what). She said it was all perfectly normal and expected at this stage and that my due date is still right on track.

@pangolindrome apparently everybody's abs separate. Putting a pic in the spoiler from a physio's page about it.

Regarding the drinking - could you drink an electrolyte drink? Might make you feel more hydrated? Not sure if this is what you want to hear, but even if I've not had a sip of water after midday I still wake during the night to pee 😅 fluid retention during the day all leaving my body at night means I wake 2-3 times a night to pee. So annoying.

May be an image of text

Things I loved with my first @serenity_by_van:
    - terry towels (used to clean up spit up)
    - a little table to keep dear me with essential items when feeding
    - portable phone charger or really long cable (depending on where your chargers are and where you plan to spend your time)
    - a few sleep suits (we prefer love to dream but not sure if they are Australian only or not - whatever you get make sure they are hip friendly meaning they are not tight below the chest so the hips can sit in their natural frog position)
    - a bouncer
    - something you can lay on the floor to put babe on that is somewhat waterproof & also machine washable (honestly don't bother if it's not machine washable, nobody is going to use a baby rug that has to be spot cleaned)
    - Sophie the giraffe

Other things I didn't get but would have loved:
    - frozen meals or a voucher for a service that provides them
    - a cleaner

Things I got heaps of that I never used:
    - fancy plates, bowls & cutlery that I couldn't put in the dishwasher
    - baby blankets
    - stuffed toys

Hahahaha that's me on the coke & coffee from @foreveronyourside 🤣🤣

@babywiik I'm also so frustrated about the dates changing! Based on LMP I am due 16 Sept but when I went for my ultrasound at what I thought was 6 weeks there was only a yolk sack which means it's impossible for me to have been 6 weeks based on embryo development, so they bumped me back to 22 September. But then at my 12 week scan they've brought me forward again to the 15th of September because that's how big baby was measuring, which is infuriating because my DD was born 55cm long which is off the charts in baby length, so of course this babe is going to start measuring longer than average right from the start. After ~7 weeks all lengths are different & they measure based on the 50th percentile. So annoying
  • I’m 18 weeks tomorrow and I’ve been having some moderate cramps the past almost 5 days now and it’s giving me weird feelings but I’m not sure that the doc will do anything other than tell me to wait til my next appt/go to ER. Has anyone been here? Asking so I stop freaking out for no reason. Lol
  • Where are the cramps located and what do they feel like?

  • They were feeling like gas pains but now it’s just regular almost period/uterus cramps just not half as painful. Mainly uncomfortable and like standing from sitting feels like it’s sticking together if that makes any sense?
  • It's possible you're having Braxton Hicks. Are they worse when you haven't had water in a while?
    Current pregnancy -
First BFP on 1/4/22.  Due date 9/13/22.

  • I’m an AZ girl so I never go anywhere without my water bottle! LOL but mornings are worse it seems like. Like right now I’m sitting at work (uncomfortably) wondering if I should just make a pit stop at the ER next time I go downstairs.
  • I just feel like a baby because it’s no more than like a 4/10 pain but this is my first pregnancy so everything seems scary
  • If you're not bleeding I wouldn't worry too much.  Most likely normal pregnancy aches and pains. However, there is a *chance* you could be having some dilation (which *is* a big thing).  If you're worried, I would go it checked out.  Worst thing they'll do is say "you're fine" and send you on your way, but at least you would have some peace of mind.  If you can get in early to see your OB I'd say go that route before the ER though.

  • @paigeme21 If you are concerned I would definitely get it checked out. This is also my first baby and every little ache and pain has me freaking out. Last week I was pretty achy in almost the same way you are describing, I started sleeping with a pillow between my legs which actually helped a ton. After a day or 2 of feeling achy and crampy I woke up feeling great and had popped! I think for me it was growing pains and my body was stretching a ton. But that's just my experience
  • I definitely woke up in the middle of the night the other night feeling my belly like “what happened?!” I felt so big and firm all of a sudden so maybe it’s just growing pains. Called my OB and left a message so hopefully she gets back to me today. Thanks guys ❤️
  • @paigeme21 My doctor gives out a handout at the confirmation appt, and for cramps it says drink 32 ounces of water, take 2 Tylenol, and lay down for an hour. If that doesn’t help, give the office a call. Might be something to try while you wait for a call back.
  • @laj0217 I love this advice, probably could have solve 99% of my overthinking moments!
  • @laj0217
OMG it would take me like 4 hours to drink all that and then I might as well set up shop in a bathroom for an hour.

  • @kboydbowman yeah I’m over here eying my water bottle which I think is 28 ounces 😂 id be in trouble!
  • @paigeme21 you should absolutely call your doctor and/or go to the ER if you're concerned, just to be on the safe side. All of that said, the nurse was really clear at my last appointment that they really only get worried if you are BOTH a) in pain and b) bleeding. All of that said, I think I'd worry the same way you are, in your shoes!
