The Great Question Thread

Re: The Great Question Thread

  • @EmilyLove25 I agree with everything @emeraldcity1214 said, but also wanted to point out that my doctor said differences under a week aren't usually considered a big deal. If you know when you ovulated, that gives you a more precise due date than LMP, so you're definitely measuring within a week! There's also not really any way to know when implantation occurred. If you ovulated later, and implanted later, you're not really measuring behind at all. I hope your next ultrasound confirms everything is okay!

  • @emeraldcity1214 thank you! I guess you are right I don't know the exact date, I'm just obsessing and over analyzing, which needs to stop!

@abbsters-2 Thank you so much. This tech also said that differences around a week or under weren't a big deal, so I'm trying to focus on that. I really appreciate your response. Thank you thank you! It's so crazy when we are talking millimeters and days.

  • @EmilyLove25 PP are all correct. My last pregnancy I thought I had a good idea of when I ovulated but I was 4 days behind at my first u/s. There's also a bit of a variance at that stage on the measuring tools I believe. Anyway I hope your u/s next week gives you more peace of mind.
  • @EmilyLove25 agree with everyone else but totally understand you being worried because I feel like a lot of us worry about something even if it isn’t totally warranted. It’s only a couple days difference based on your ovulation so a later implantation could be the reason. Or could be because they’re measuring something that is centimeters long and the tiniest margin of error in their measurement can be a two day difference in size. They’re measuring crown to rump in a straight line (I believe) so if your baby was slightly more curled up that line will be ever so slightly shorter.
  • @kopp5988 those are some great points!
  • @kopp5988 Thank you so much. You have a lot of good points. Heck, not even a CM yet! FX for Thursday. Everyone on here was so kind! Thank you thank you!

  • @EmilyLove25 same thing happened to me, knew exact date of ovulation, but was measuring about 6 days behind on ultrasound at 6 weeks  (thought I was 7) 2 weeks later went in for another ultrasound (high risk, I go in every 2 weeks) and I was measuring the correct 10. When its early its hard to get an exact measurement, try not to worry.
  • First appointment tomorrow! I’m excited but also super anxious. I keep thinking this can’t be real, something is going to go wrong. Normal, right? First pregnancy, here.
  • @ejoseph16 totally! I'm a STM and still have those feelings going into appts. It'll sink in the farther along you get :)

  • @gumby22c thanks! I’m just hoping they do an US so I can hear/see a heartbeat. That would help put my mind at ease! My sister was less than helpful, so I thought I’d come to you all to tell me I’m not crazy!
  • @ejoseph16 good luck with the appointment tomorrow!!! I’m sure it will put your mind at ease :)

Anyone have an NT scan before? Just wondering what to expect at my appointment tomorrow. Is it an internal scan/US or over the stomach? Will they check the heartbeat and size of the baby even though that’s not the purpose of the scan? It’s not at my normal OB, it’s at a specialist -I’m assuming that’s the norm.
  • @kopp5988 I think its standard to check size and FHR at every US. Although, I wasn't told the gestational age of my baby yesterday but I'm positive she measured it and made a note. As for everything else, I have never had the NT scan done so I'm not sure. The only think I know is that they measure the nuchal neck folds.

I had my NT scan yesterday, and I had one with my first pregnancy. I also had to go see an MFM to have this done, not my normal OB. It was a external tummy u/s although the tech said that if she couldn't get anything she'd need to try the vaginal u/s. They measured baby's size and HR, as well as the nuchal fold. I wasn't told the nuchal measurement but I did ask with my son and they told me. They just told me it was within normal range and no concerns.
  • Ive never has a NT before either and was wondering the same thing. Thanks for asking @kopp5988

  • @emeraldcity1214thanks for the response!

@creamcheeseplease oh that’s great to hear. I was hoping that they would measure baby’s size and HR since we’re telling family this weekend and want to be sure everything is still looking good before we do.
  • Follow up to measuring small at 7 weeks and TW TW TW just wanted to thank everyone for responding here! I had a follow up US here and it wasn't good news. Very low HR of 108 for where I am. I go back in a week, but I know what is happening. I hope everyone here has the BEST and healthiest 9 months ever! Nothing more wonderful or amazing than growing and birthing a baby. I only put this here so as to not make some huge one off post and because people took time to answer my question.

  • @EmilyLove25 I'm sorry for your bad news
  • @EmilyLove25 one off posts about a loss are more than welcome. Keeping other one off posts to a minimum helps keep threads like that from getting lost. I'm so sorry your US didn't go so well. I hope that the low HR was a fluke and you get better news next week. Hugs!
  • I couldn't decide which thread to post this on, but I think this one might be appropriate. So I am 10 weeks and 1 day. I work at a very informal medical law firm with less than 30 employees. The head of my firm absolutely adores me and is very generous with completely paying for amazing health insurance and doling out bonuses as thank yous. He has already said I'm one of his biggest assets and he'd do anything to keep me around - like letting me set my own schedule and working from home. He's been very understanding about my IVF process, which I've kept secret from all but two others in the office: my "supervisor" (I am more my own boss and she's just there to keep track of attendance) and the informal HR/office manager (a former supervisor of mine). They are probably two of the people I am closest to in the office, too. They only know about the IVF because I've had so many appointments and been so sick off and on. I've been there for a bit over 7 years now. So, the two women know about the pregnancy already because I've had bleeding and and had to run out for some appointments and both know I was waiting to tell the head of my firm until 12 weeks. We had bonus reviews yesterday and he gave me a VERY generous bump in my quarterly bonus rate and said he's committed to doing anything he can to make me a happy employee. I thought about telling him about the pregnancy but it didntdifeel right to say, "Thanks for the money, and I'm going to be taking paid leave in November!" Looking back on it, I should have known he knew from the things he said... apparently, one of the two women leaked it to him and he was kind enough not to say anything. Now I feel like a real jerk for not saying anything yesterday. His wife congratulated me in the hall today and I was floored that she knew. My question is: how do I move forward? Do I go to him alone and apologize for not telling him sooner? Do I wait until Monday until I can have either the HR/office manager or my supervisor sit in - aren't you supposed to have someone sit in on a conversation like this? Do I wait until 12 weeks as planned? His wife felt terrible that she wasn't supposed to know and begged me not to tell him she was the one who told me he knew...so now I have to juggle that too...

@swedishmeatball This is exactly how my Frenchie lays on me every evening - never did it before I was pregnant. My cat is also obsessed now with laying on my lap and has never done that in the 8 years we’ve owned her when I wasn’t pregnant.
  • thinking of you @EmilyLove25

@alwayseloquent I don't think you need to apologize for not telling him sooner. It's your news to tell and he sounds like a nice guy so when you're comfortable I would just ask for a meeting with him and just tell him you're pregnant. If you want to, you could always say that you wanted to wait until after XYZ to officially notify him (12 weeks, another u/s, whatever). If you would like to have HR sit in, by all means. I did not do that last time, and I won't this time either. Last pregnancy I was very close with my boss and told him before I notified HR. When I was a boss, generally pregnant employees first notified HR and then notified me. HR did not notify or speak to me in regards to it any way. This time my employment situation is a sort of different but I will probably notify my employer via their official benefits line and ensure they notify my on-site supervisor directly.
  • @alwayseloquent don't feel bad at all!  You got the bonus because you're an amazing asset to your firm and they are lucky to have you!  Do you think a guy would feel guilty about taking a bonus before getting some paid leave ;-)?  Just sayin' ... it's your body, and your choice as to when you tell people.
  • @alwayseloquent so glad to hear that!  Yay!

  • Best place to do baby registry? It has hit me that I have nothing. And we need a lot of things. And I don't even know where to start. I was thinking Target?
  • @runningfortwo81 I would do Buy Buy baby or Amazon or target. All those are good ones. I know there is a registry that allows you to add stuff from different stores. I can't remember the name though.
  • @runningfortwo81 I did Target, Buy Buy Baby and Amazon with my daughter. For a variety of reasons, but mainly the completion discounts. We also added a few non-baby things to the Target list so the 15% completion discount could be used on that stuff as well.
  • @runningfortwo81
Target has some nice perks. So does Amazon. I did both with my first so people had easy online options and in store options. And they both have super easy registry return policies if you end up with a duplicate, you can exchange it for something you didn’t get.

  • @runningfortwo81 I just learned about Babylist.com. You add what you want and it lists the stores it's available at and the cost. This way people can look for good deals!

^^^this is what I was talking about.
  • Random question..is there a way to get notifications if you’re tagged or someone replies to you on here?  My app seems so slow!
  • Is wanting to strangle your husband a normal symptom? Haha he’s getting on my nerves SO MUCH right now.
  • I had my prenatal screening a bit later than expected, as my doctor thought that it had already been completed with the blood type test. I just learned from the online results over the weekend that I tested extremely high for Rubella (German measles), even though I’m fully MMR vaccinated. I have read that measles, mono, parvo, and a few other things can cause a false positive for Rubella, but I’m not sure that any of those potential illnesses make me feel much better. Has anyone gotten a high Rubella result and talked with their doc about this? It is a very rare virus in the US, but with potentially dire complications in the first trimester. I will be able to talk to my doctor this morning, but I’m concerned that she will tell me little information or not to worry about it (she’s very laid back). I’m assuming that I will have follow up testing done? Thanks in advance for any info that you may have to share!
  • Anyone else’s baby have a really high heart rate? This babes heart rate was at 178 week 8 US and when I just got another US last week it was 176 at 11w5d....I feel like this is kinda high for almost 12 weeks...I know the range can go up to 180 but it’s a little close for comfort. Thoughts?

  • @xilovemybabiesx at 10 weeks my baby had a 176 HR. My doctor said it was great. I wouldn't be concerned. My son always ran higher too.

  • @lex1116 Im not sure what test you had, but typically those tests measure antibodies, which are supposed to be high if you’ve been vaccinated. They’re not normally testing for the actual disease.

  • @xilovemybabiesx FHR has been 179 at 9w+5d and 175 at 10w+5d.  Doctor has been pleased with both.  I wouldn't worry!

  • Thank you ladies! My two sons were never this high so it worried me a little. @gumby22c @mimigarden
