Does catfishing still happen regularly around these boards? I know it was a huge issue back when I was active in my Jan15 board, but I thought maybe the use of FB and how so many of these groups transfer over there now, if that was still a thing! I'm totally on board for a FB group transfer, but want to wait a bit till this group really hits its groove, which seemed to happen for my other groups around late 2nd-3rd tri.
Anyone having crazy weird cravings? This afternoon, I got home from work and was starving. I wound up having chips and salsa, sour patch kids, and strawberry sugar wafers. Strange combination, but so good!
@musicgal05 I don’t think it is super common, but I do know of one that happened recently. Someone in my January 2017 baby month board ended up finding out the lady was using fake pictures and what not. I can’t remember what month the catfish was from.
I constantly think about food usually things like sauerkraut and pickles but chicken and meat too. Yesterday I was sitting at work and thinking about what to cook for my dinner, I wanted pasta with tomato, zucchini and eggplant. But finally I called my husband and asked him to buy mustard, sausage and sauerkraut gosh I have a feeling I am gaining too much weight.
When you get pedicures, do you use the massage chairs?? I've heard mixed reviews of it's not that safe for 1st trimester and others saying it totally is... Best to stay away or go for it?
Re: Maternity leave - (FMLA) - does anyone know if you can put your sick time toward the beginning of FMLA leave? Is this maybe employer-specific? My employee handbook is very vague about all this and I don't want to call the benefits line because I have to give my employee number for them to speak with me, yada yada..
@creamcheeseplease I believe its employer specific. I have to verify mine too but I'm pretty positive if you have FMLA that you're allowed to exhaust all sick time before using vacation time, if yours are separate. Mine are seoerate and I have over 200+ sick hours so I should be able to take the full 12 weeks with pay.
@creamcheeseplease employer specific in my experience, but I think it is typical for employers to require using any available leave, whether it’s sick/personal/vacation.
@creamcheeseplease employer specific in my experience as well. Ours is completely separate and I don’t have to use any vacation or sick time in conjunction with my leave.
I have to use sick time towards my FMLA. I think I have about 30 days or so—we get about 12 per year—but I’m out quite often due to my younger daughter who has anxiety and depression. So I can take 12 weeks, but when I run out of sick days it’s unpaid. I work in a public school.
Similar to @gapmom2019 I work in a public school. We can take up to 12 weeks, but must use sick and personal leave. I have 40 days saved up so far, and I’ll accumulate over the summer as well. Hoping that will help with appointments and leave, though my date being around thanksgiving and Christmas break will help!
My sick and vacation time is out of one pot and I have to burn that before using FMLA. I do get 90 days of paid (well...60% paid) short-term disability that I plan to use.
If you’re using FMLA, do you have short term disability benefits as well? I get 8 weeks (c-section) short term that I pay for through my employer that kicks in after the 3rd day, so I’m only using 3 PTO days up front. We only get partial pay benefits through short term, but I supplement with Aflac, so it evens out. I use FMLA on top of that so that I can take up to 16 weeks protected if I need to, but we use it more as a formality (and I’ll take a total of 12 weeks, using saved PTO time at the end). Then I use some PTO days scattered through the short term leave so I don’t get hit with deductions all at once for insurance/taxes/short term/etc.
The way I understand it is that the short term disability coincides with the FMLA so that you are getting “paid” during it. So my employer offers 11 weeks at 60% pay after a 14 day waiting period. So i would use any leave I have during that waiting period and then be getting 60% pay during my FMLA.
I'm not eligible for short term the way I understand my employment contract. I am in NY, so I will get paid family leave for 10 weeks at partial pay of state average wage. However, I'm concerned about the additional 2 weeks and they law (from what I read online) does not require that my employer allow me to use vacation or sick time. My employer is horrible and is cheap/cutrate and I'm wondering if they will prohibit me from using my sick time after baby is born. I think they can do that. I guess I'll need to wait until I'm ready to tell to get the real story.
@creamcheeseplease I would think most employers would rather you use your accrued time off during your maternity leave because then that’s less you have to take after being gone for so long. I hope your boss let you bridge the gap that way. Also, that’s awesome that NY requires paid 10 weeks of leave- I didn’t know that!

It is really nice and I think will increase up to 12w in the coming years, I see. I'm mainly concerned that they will basically take my PTO, you know what I mean? Like, say I can't use the sick time at the beginning of my leave and thus I will then lose it since mine doesn't accrue or roll over. It is what it is either way and I'm very grateful to have the state partially paid leave at all.
So for me, my FMLA runs concurrent with whatever paid time I use (if available). I actually get 8 weeks of paid maternity leave, and then can use my vacation and sick time. Our policy is actually a little iffy on if I can use my sick time, since I'm actually "medically approved" to be back at work at 6 weeks, depending on complications I guess. Actually last time they allowed me to use my short term disability after my maternity leave, but I'm not counting on it this time since its actually not what our policy says. I will have enough vacation to cover the 4 weeks either way.

Does anyone have any good pregnancy safe acne medicine? I’ve never really had trouble with acne before but I get a few pimples at a time and by the time those are about gone i have a few new ones popping up. I wouldn’t care really except my wedding is in a couple of months and I’d prefer to have my acne under control. Thanks in advance!!
@fmar8 I use teatree oil on any breakouts and it seems to dry them out especially if I need "take care of them" I put it on them before bed and I wake up and they're dried out. From what I've read teatree is save for pregnancy!
Does anyone have any experience with fifths disease and pregnancy? I'm an elementary teacher and on Friday I called a parent to let them know their child had a rash all over his cheeks. To me it looked like fifths. I'm kind of worried now! I know spring is a common time for it to spread through schools:(
@rae605 Hi! I'm attaching pics of what is said about fifths disease in what to expect when you're expecting. I believe if the child is confirmed by a doctor to have fifths they are required to notify the school, so hopefully you'll be made aware. My son normally comes home with a letter at least once a year saying a child in the school was confirmed to have it. FX for you! But you should be ok if you are on top of things which it seems you are!
@rae605 I had a scare with my last pregnancy and it turns out you can be blood tested to see if you are immune to the illness, similar to chicken pox. My mother didn’t think I had it as a child but it turns out I did and was immune. It put my mind at ease!
Anyone have high urine pH? Mines at a 8.5 and i would like to decrease it. There was no signs of infection within my results. It's more diet based I believe
Mine was 8.0 - dr didn’t mention it as being an issue even though it was marked as high on the test results. I’m not too sure how that affects your pregnancy - doesn’t anyone know?
Hey, Ladies: As a Third Time Mom (I hope), I didn't think I'd have a lot of questions... but here I am! I know my ovulation date and LMP. I went for an elective early dating ultrasound (because my doctor couldn't get me in) on the day I should have been 7+1 weeks by LMP and 6+4 by ovulation. Tech, who was WONDERFUL, said "everything looked perfect" and she had "zero concerns," but the baby was measuring at 6 +1 weeks and had a HR of 114 BPM (great for 6 weeks, not great for 7 weeks).
So my question is has any one ever (in this pregnancy or otherwise) measured small this early? I'm obviously very fearful and can't get my mind right. I go on Thursday morning to my doctor to get a second US (I demanded it) and look for growth etc. I'm so beyond worried. Ugh. I also barely have symptoms for the first time ever, so that doesn't help...
@Kurtni I am so sorry about the nausea! I was SO there with my last two pregnancies and my most recent especially. It lasted my entire pregnancy but was definitely worse at first. I finally called and talked with a nurse around 10 weeks... she said eat crackers and drink sprite (insert eye roll). I then asked my doctor at 12 weeks when I met her and she wrote a prescription for Zofran, which was zero help for me and made me exhausted (even more). I've heard the one drug is essentially Unisom + B6, so that's all available, though no one likes experimenting, but you could call the nurse and ask! I also ordered SeaBands on Amazon... can't say they helped, but I felt desperate. Ginger candy can help take the edge off as well.
On a side note, nausea is associated with very healthy pregnancies in a few studies. That always reassured me and helped me power through! Hope you feel better.
@emeraldcity1214 Yes! I 100% was tracking my temps and know the EXACT day I ovulated (heck, the hour practically haha). It was on CD 18. So in my mind, that means my due date would be 4 days later than the one based on LMP, right, since it presumes CD 14? So due date by LMP is 11/29, by Ovulation is 12/2... but either way, this measurement had me as a due date of 12/6... so minimum 4 days later... Ugh. I'm really sorry I am being so anxious and annoying. I thought someone on here might have had something similar. I know I saw some posts in the US thread. I would give anything to not be so anxious.
@EmilyLove25 how do you know the exact day of ovulation? Even using OPKs doesn't give you the exact day. You pick up your surge and then ovulated within 12-24 hours after that. Even when you have a temp shift ovulation could have taken place anywhere from 1-3 days prior to your shift. I have even seen charts that show a shift prior to a positive OPK and CM drying up.
My point to all of this is that, if you know you ovulated later than CD14 then your baby is measuring right on track. Unless you have a very well timed US you can't know the exact day you ovulated, just an approximate day. I'm sorry you're stressed but it sounds like everything is ok
