  • @BabyMC517 that's so nice. My husband doesn't even want to cut the cord...
  • Mine isn't a cord cutter either! I even put it on the birth plan so we're not asked this time.
  • @lnds32 maybe I'll cut this time!
  • @lnds32 I have it down for me to cut the cord if DH chickens out, but he's pretty sure he wants to catch the baby and cut the cord himself when the time comes. I'm curious to see if that's how it's going to go!

  • @kat81 My DH has been great at all my wincing. He always says "What's happening?" And asks for a play by play. When it's just a BH he says okay, when it's a minicontraction he times it even though I tell him he doesn't need to. For the first week he made me log everything, now he's realized it's a bit too baseline for me to write it all down. We're both worried what's going to happen when it's all real-- will my body have cried wolf too many times and we won't know/care?

@WombThereItIs I think it's funny he's taken NRP near your delivery so the worst case scenarios are fresh in his mind. Poor guy. It's hard when you have a medical job.

My DH plans to cut the cord and announce the sex of the baby. I told him he can touch the crown when it's crowning. I'm going to try catching the baby, but if he not he's welcome to try as well.
  • @kat81 my DH was just kind of confused asking me "but if they're regular then how does that not mean something". I had the same thing before my son was born too but I think he was mostly sleeping when I was up at 2am dealing with it.

Ill keep my fingers crossed we both make it to the end of the week!  I have stuff to do through Wednesday!
  • @nda_roxybabe and @starphish18 and anyone else with pregnancy carpal tunnel, what have you found to relieve it? Mine got really bad yesterday, my fingers are the worst, and I can't seem to get it to be better. I've tried little exercises, resting my hands in neutral positions, blah. They ache so bad, I can barely use them!
  • @jayandaplus I'm probably no help when it comes to the carpel tunnel thing. Whatever day I mentioned it, that was the worst for me. Since then, it hasn't been as bad, but it's still kind of background noise. I have been making sure to keep my hand/wrist flat while I sleep, which I think definitely helps (I notice the tingling gets worse when it's bent). During the day, I haven't been having much trouble. It just hurts more when I make a fist.
  • In regards to H cutting the cord, we're kind of playing that one by ear. H is a bit squeamish when it comes to those things. He thinks he may be ok in the moment (adrenaline and all), but I think he may end up opting not to.
  • @jayandaplus - I had carpal tunnel last pregnancy, and ended up getting a brace thing from CVS that just went around my thumb and pulled it back a bit. It really helped me get through the last couple of weeks at work- especially with typing.

  • My H is squeamish too, to the point that he had to sit down at one point during pushing. He had no interest in cutting the cord but when the doctor handed him those scissors he did it without a second thought. It must've been a Heat of the moment thing, but now he's glad he did :)
  • @jayandaplus I think your best bet is probably a brace. I'd order off Amazon then return if it's not helping :) The only thing that helped my issue was the steroid shots, but I'm not sure if they work for carpal tunnel? If they do, RUN, dont walk, and go get them!

H does not want to cut the cord. Even said to make sure to tell them not to ask. I asked my Mom to do it so I'll have her chime in :)

  • @rkstro2 @MrsFreeman2010 I never even thought about the anesthesiologist getting stuck! That's too funny.
  • I love everyone's different experiences and thoughts on cord cutting and catching the baby! I think it really will be an in the moment thing and H really isn't squeamish at all so that's probably why he wants to catch him. Now needles on the other hand are a bit of a different story! Haha he won't pass out but he hates them just the same. It'll be interesting to see what really goes down when we're in the moment! I personally do not want a mirror and honestly not sure I want H to see all the craziness that will be happening down there, but I don't think I'll stop him either. He's a apart of this and I won't take that away from him :)

@jayandaplus I don't know that I have carpel tunnel per se because my wrists aren't bad, but man my fingers hurt like crazy! They hurt more during the night and a little throughout the day. I will crack my knuckles and kind of massage/pull on my fingers and that tends to help a little bit. I need to remember to ask my dr about them tomorrow at my appointment...I doubt there is really anything that can be done and I think I remember someone saying they had something similar and that it goes away after birth. Fx!

  • Count me out on the mirror. I do not need to look at all that. I don't like blood or anything as it is so nope keep that thing up and away from me.

Oh wow we haven't even thought of talking about my husband cord cutting vs not! I'll interrogate him ASAP!

I'm having this weird realization that in the back of my mind I thought labor and childbirth are things that happen to *waves hand vaguely* other people but today (my due date) all of a sudden I'm like UH OH. There is bleeding, there is cramping, there is pain, and are y'all SURE I can't just stay pregnant forever?!
We watched Last Man on Earth last night and the one character was in labor/screaming. H was like, are you sure you want to do this? Are you scared? I was like all like "nah! It's fine! Bring it on!" but then when I really think about it I'm like omg... I just keep not thinking about it, haha

  • @nda_roxybabe I love how he asked "are you sure you want to do this?" umm not much of a choice at this point! haha My mom was telling me that she had that response after they watched the birth videos in their class. She's like umm I don't want to do this anymore! Little late! I totally get what you all are saying though. Some days I'm so ready and just like yeah lets do this! And others I'm like nope, I don't know that I can handle all of this!

  • @cato99 Haha. Just don't think about it, like @nda_roxybabe. That's my tactic. And happy due date!

I've been nauseated all day. DH said, "did you know that can be a sign of early labor?" Add it to the list hunny. I have all the symptoms of early labor!
  • @SWE2 sorry fir the late response! First day of Mat leave which of course meant instead of relaxing, running tons of errands and getting the cat's nails trimmed, lol.

DH has me do all the meat prep for dinners (trimming fat, peeling off skin, etc) because he HATES getting his hands slimy. He's a manly-man but is a total priss about his hands! I know he'd have gloves on but I guarantee he'd faint if he cut the cord, lol. I honestly think in the moment he'll be a great supporter since he's protected by the screen, but I guess we'll see! My mom lives in a Indiana and his lives in Austria so he's my support person!

  • Totally count it as a win @nda_roxybabe! Just keep in mind if you don't wear pantiliners, now might be a good time to start. I kept losing mine for weeks. Yay! Fingers crossed baby comes on baby's own before Thursday. :)
  • Question about contractions. Can BH spread to your back? I thought I'd heard those are real ones, but I had a couple yesterday and nothing came about from it. I guess I'm just confused about whether or not real contractions can come and go like BH before things really get started.
