@kat81@Hansolosparka@jayandaplus same boat so annoyed. I was 3 cm Thursday been getting woken up from the bh. getting them on and off all day. Around 8 pm tonight had 3 in 20 mins ate drank peed they stopped.... over the bh.
@kat81 H is a pretty calm guy so he's been really good with it. Plus they tend to happen while I'm at work more than at home. Sometimes at home though and I just sit down and drink some water. He always ask if I'm ok and if we need to go anywhere and I say no it's not timetable or anything. He's a sort of a prepper, he's actually done way more researching and reading books than I have haha he's probably more prepared!
When i I was having those crazy high pains and bad contractions he was right there with me getting wash cloths and what not. He looked a little more freaked only because he didn't know what to do to make it stop.
Did i I mentioned he wants to catch the baby during delivery? He's crazy! My dr is like ok sure lol
"A day without laughter is a day wasted." ~Charlie Chaplin
@Yiggle09 with DS when the Dr asked my husband to cut the cord he was like " no, I'm good," so I cut it myself! I still haven't let him live it down! I doubt much will change this time around either!
@lnds32 I have it down for me to cut the cord if DH chickens out, but he's pretty sure he wants to catch the baby and cut the cord himself when the time comes. I'm curious to see if that's how it's going to go!
My husband has no interest in cutting the cord since he has done so many deliveries, it isn't really novel to him. He said last time he didn't even look south when I was pushing or over the curtain in the OR which really surprised me.
I think for him he clicks on once baby is out and he wants to monitor everything they do after, I think that I keep having babies right after he re-certifies in NRP makes him paranoid since worst case stuff is fresh in his brain. I told him he isn't allowed to resuscitate his own baby but he can be the skin to skin snuggle person again if its a cesarean delivery.
DH didn't cut the cord with DD. I don't think he wanted to be down there but the nurse had him hold up one of my legs. He acts like it's all nbd because he grew up on a farm. I always roll my eyes. I'm not a goat DH, totally not the same.
@kat81 My DH has been great at all my wincing. He always says "What's happening?" And asks for a play by play. When it's just a BH he says okay, when it's a minicontraction he times it even though I tell him he doesn't need to. For the first week he made me log everything, now he's realized it's a bit too baseline for me to write it all down. We're both worried what's going to happen when it's all real-- will my body have cried wolf too many times and we won't know/care?
@WombThereItIs I think it's funny he's taken NRP near your delivery so the worst case scenarios are fresh in his mind. Poor guy. It's hard when you have a medical job.
My DH plans to cut the cord and announce the sex of the baby. I told him he can touch the crown when it's crowning. I'm going to try catching the baby, but if he not he's welcome to try as well.
@kat81 my DH was just kind of confused asking me "but if they're regular then how does that not mean something". I had the same thing before my son was born too but I think he was mostly sleeping when I was up at 2am dealing with it.
Ill keep my fingers crossed we both make it to the end of the week! I have stuff to do through Wednesday!
My DH nearly fainted in our childbirth class during the video portion so, he told me in lieu of cutting the cord he'd go ahead and lie on the floor with a white flag letting me know he was ok. Lol.
@nda_roxybabe and @starphish18 and anyone else with pregnancy carpal tunnel, what have you found to relieve it? Mine got really bad yesterday, my fingers are the worst, and I can't seem to get it to be better. I've tried little exercises, resting my hands in neutral positions, blah. They ache so bad, I can barely use them!
@sweaterboots your comment made me spit out my cereal. That's hilarious about your husband waving a white flag. Are you having anyone else in the room with you for support? I told my H tomorrow he is going to check me to see if I've made any progress. Dr. Won't check unless I want him to but since it's been uneventful he won't check until my 39th week appt. Figure I'm more comfortable with my H all up in my business. But I had to remind him I'm his wife not a patient and to not go all business like on me.
@jayandaplus I'm probably no help when it comes to the carpel tunnel thing. Whatever day I mentioned it, that was the worst for me. Since then, it hasn't been as bad, but it's still kind of background noise. I have been making sure to keep my hand/wrist flat while I sleep, which I think definitely helps (I notice the tingling gets worse when it's bent). During the day, I haven't been having much trouble. It just hurts more when I make a fist.
In regards to H cutting the cord, we're kind of playing that one by ear. H is a bit squeamish when it comes to those things. He thinks he may be ok in the moment (adrenaline and all), but I think he may end up opting not to.
H decided he didn't want to cut the cord, which I am fine with. I am a little worried that he may regret it later since he took no time to think about it before giving me his answer. I figure even though it's in our paperwork that he doesn't want to that they will ask again in the moment.
On another note, I found a real life picture of me right now.
I think I've mentioned this before, but DH cut the cord last time and the doctor didn't specify that it had to be cut between the clamps...so he ended up cutting outside of that area and spraying blood EVERYWHERE. It was hilarious.
When we talked about it pre-labor, DH was adamant that he'd hold a leg, but not look *down there* at all. That went out the window immediately, and he watched everything, which surprised me. Apparently, once it became real and he could see DS's head, he couldn't look away. On the other hand, they put a mirror there so I could watch, and that was a no-go. No.

@jayandaplus - I had carpal tunnel last pregnancy, and ended up getting a brace thing from CVS that just went around my thumb and pulled it back a bit. It really helped me get through the last couple of weeks at work- especially with typing.

My H is squeamish too, to the point that he had to sit down at one point during pushing. He had no interest in cutting the cord but when the doctor handed him those scissors he did it without a second thought. It must've been a Heat of the moment thing, but now he's glad he did
@Jens_Hoes my H likes to say he won't look down there either. But like @kayemjay2 said once it's go time there's basically no where else to look. The whole world in the delivery room is focused on that area below the equator. In my experiences (not me delivering personally obv since I'm FTM) with my sister's birth, those babies I delivered once upon a time in med school, and now for those deliveries in which I've been trapped for after placing an epidural leading to precipitous delivery...the lights and everything are all pointing to your glorious lady area and the giant creature trying to escape from there. So so fun. Anyway, hopefully for your H and mine (and any other squeamish gentlemen out there) they will be so in awe of the amazing experience that childbirth is that they won't want to miss it. Or maybe they'll be like @sweaterboots said and be on the floor waving a white flag. Hahaha.
@jayandaplus I think your best bet is probably a brace. I'd order off Amazon then return if it's not helping The only thing that helped my issue was the steroid shots, but I'm not sure if they work for carpal tunnel? If they do, RUN, dont walk, and go get them!
H does not want to cut the cord. Even said to make sure to tell them not to ask. I asked my Mom to do it so I'll have her chime in
@rkstro2 I love when anesthesiologists get stuck for delivery. They all have a mildly panicked look on their face, like please don't let me be the one to deliver this baby. The last delivery I had to do, the anesthesiologist looked at me and said "you got this?" I laughed and said ya and he said okay good and he focused on talking to mom and dabbing her face with a wash cloth. It was funny
I love everyone's different experiences and thoughts on cord cutting and catching the baby! I think it really will be an in the moment thing and H really isn't squeamish at all so that's probably why he wants to catch him. Now needles on the other hand are a bit of a different story! Haha he won't pass out but he hates them just the same. It'll be interesting to see what really goes down when we're in the moment! I personally do not want a mirror and honestly not sure I want H to see all the craziness that will be happening down there, but I don't think I'll stop him either. He's a apart of this and I won't take that away from him
@jayandaplus I don't know that I have carpel tunnel per se because my wrists aren't bad, but man my fingers hurt like crazy! They hurt more during the night and a little throughout the day. I will crack my knuckles and kind of massage/pull on my fingers and that tends to help a little bit. I need to remember to ask my dr about them tomorrow at my appointment...I doubt there is really anything that can be done and I think I remember someone saying they had something similar and that it goes away after birth. Fx!

Oh wow we haven't even thought of talking about my husband cord cutting vs not! I'll interrogate him ASAP!
I'm having this weird realization that in the back of my mind I thought labor and childbirth are things that happen to *waves hand vaguely* other people but today (my due date) all of a sudden I'm like UH OH. There is bleeding, there is cramping, there is pain, and are y'all SURE I can't just stay pregnant forever?!

We watched Last Man on Earth last night and the one character was in labor/screaming. H was like, are you sure you want to do this? Are you scared? I was like all like "nah! It's fine! Bring it on!" but then when I really think about it I'm like omg... I just keep not thinking about it, haha
@nda_roxybabe I love how he asked "are you sure you want to do this?" umm not much of a choice at this point! haha My mom was telling me that she had that response after they watched the birth videos in their class. She's like umm I don't want to do this anymore! Little late! I totally get what you all are saying though. Some days I'm so ready and just like yeah lets do this! And others I'm like nope, I don't know that I can handle all of this!
"A day without laughter is a day wasted." ~Charlie Chaplin
@BabyMC517 Haha, that was part of my response. It's like, even if I dont want to do it, the baby has to get out somehow... Whoa, just realized I should probably go ahead and read the induction thread I've been putting off.
Symptoms...I'd love some symptoms right now. Maybe no symptom is a good symptom? Haha
@cato99 Haha. Just don't think about it, like @nda_roxybabe. That's my tactic. And happy due date!
I've been nauseated all day. DH said, "did you know that can be a sign of early labor?" Add it to the list hunny. I have all the symptoms of early labor!
I just had another doctor's appointment, last one I was 100% effaced and 1.5 cm, this one he said I was 90% effaced and 2 cm. So he said basically the same. He offered to induce me on Wed, but my husband has a mandatory class that finishes on Wed, so unless she comes on her own we need to wait. I'm so disappointed, I loved the idea of Wed and that doctor has been through so much with me I would really like him to be the one to deliver her. He offered Thursday with another doctor, but I decided to wait I need to talk to my husband and I don't love the doctor that was my option. I made another appointment which include the non stress test and an ultrasound for next week (Which while doing this I found out my favorite doctor is not in next week :-( ).
Right after my appointment I ran an errand, stopped to go the bathroom and lost my mucus plug.
I feel like my husband and I have talked about so many different scenarios that I didn't realize we never talked about being induced/ what we would want to do. I'm not sure if it's better to wait till she naturally comes, I'm not miserable, I'm just uncomfortable.
@SWE2 sorry fir the late response! First day of Mat leave which of course meant instead of relaxing, running tons of errands and getting the cat's nails trimmed, lol.
DH has me do all the meat prep for dinners (trimming fat, peeling off skin, etc) because he HATES getting his hands slimy. He's a manly-man but is a total priss about his hands! I know he'd have gloves on but I guarantee he'd faint if he cut the cord, lol. I honestly think in the moment he'll be a great supporter since he's protected by the screen, but I guess we'll see! My mom lives in a Indiana and his lives in Austria so he's my support person!
Totally count it as a win @nda_roxybabe! Just keep in mind if you don't wear pantiliners, now might be a good time to start. I kept losing mine for weeks. Yay! Fingers crossed baby comes on baby's own before Thursday.
Question about contractions. Can BH spread to your back? I thought I'd heard those are real ones, but I had a couple yesterday and nothing came about from it. I guess I'm just confused about whether or not real contractions can come and go like BH before things really get started.

I think only the real ones spread to your back. You can have real ones that don't lead anywhere though too. Why must it be so confusing?! I really think we all should just have an alarm that chimes when it's real.
