Does anyone have any thoughts on bike riding with a little newborn? Is it even possible? I have a trailer, but do they make attachments for tiny humans that can't support themselves? Or would babywearing work? Or am I just being too ambitious for the summer thinking I'll ride my bike?
@emilyalso we used the pee pads for changing DD all the time too! I remember a few pooplosions with her. And she would always pee once she felt cool air down there once the diaper came off. I would expose her then cover back up, let her go then put on a new diaper. DH on the other hand would remove the diaper then be like oh sh*t while she peed in between. He never learned. Smh lol
So, I've been pretty active today...not busy at all! Anyway, I know I've mentioned the pain and possible lightening crotch going on today, but I have a question. Is it normal to start feeling that at any point in pregnancy? I'm 32+5 and its like everything hit me this week, and more today! He keeps moving around, which has become a little painful, nothing horrible, but enough to be uncomfortable. Then the pressure in my pelvis and some pain there as well, like right under my belly. I assume this is all normal, just curious if this is when it typically starts or if it is just different for everyone. I feel better if I stand or lay down because then it feels like he's not as cramped in there like when sitting at my desk at work. Sorry for the rambling...

I've been wondering the same thing! We love bike riding and have no idea how to accomplish it without a baby sitter? I'm thinking that maybe until they're old enough to have their own helmet that it might not be possible to take them in the trailer or on a seat? Of course I'm a FTM so I have no idea!
I have the best NICU nurses. When I was discharged yesterday, the nurse simply said to change the dressing around my drain as needed. My discharge papers actually said to change it once per day. Well as I was nursing DD, I noticed my shirt was starting to get damp around my dressing. Lucia's nurse not only cleaned me up and changed the dressing, she gave me some additional supplies to do it myself at home. This is the same nurse that took care of DS1 when he was premature. I am so thankful for such a wonderful and caring nurse.

My pediatricians have always recommended to not use the bike trailers until 18 months. Basically the toddler needs to be able to support their head and a helmet through the bumps!

@emilyalso - I love that idea! I have a ton of pee pads that my mom gave us when I was potty training DS that we never used and that I had been considering giving away but now I am definitely putting them on the changing table!

@ShadeofGreen816 Thank you for the mattress cover suggestion. Added to my cart. I think Amazon should love BMB because I swear at least 1/3 of what I buy is from y'alls recommendations.
@absbubbs I've been wondering this as well. Unfortunately, I don't think babywearing is safe on a bike. IF there's a fall, baby has 0% protection. Maybe just have to wait...
@BabyMC517 FTM here, but I think symptoms can crop up at any time, especially new pains at the end/later.
@jayandaplus I've thought about that, if we were to tip over. But in all reality, with a kid attached to the bike, a tip over would almost always result in injury. And I already plan on getting one of those seats that attach directly to the bike when the kid is big enough because I'm not super excited about the trailers.

This is what we were told too. Even at 18 months DD still wore an infant size helmet, it would definitely not work with a real infant, DS was barely in a toddler helmet at that age.
ETA: bike riding while baby wearing, the general rule is if it's not safe to do while holding your baby it's not safe to do wearing your baby.
So I ran over something omw home now my tire is close to flat. We have an air compressor in the garage but this leak is so bad that the tire is unusable on the car even with a fill up. I really didn't need this expense now! My son only peed if it was chilly so I was super lucky with diaper changes.
Along the same lines as bike riding, you aren't supposed to run with your newborn either. Even in a super fancy running stroller. It's actually stated on the BOB website to not run with the infant adapter. Check with your pedi though.
Basically you can go on nice long walks with your baby. They just don't have the head/neck support to do much else.
@bacorrea I think our pediatricians always recommended to wait til at least 6 months old to run with the jogging stroller!
Yeah! I've heard as early as 12 weeks, but then I've seen 6-8 months. So that's why I said just ask the pedi! I feel like recommendations always changing with this stuff!
Re: pee pads and mattress covers. I highly recommend biting a bullet on a cover. DD pooped on our bed at least twice in the first few months. We didn't bed share or anything (because science!!). It was just perfectly timed when I had her on the bed for a short time post feeding. And baby poop is pretty watery. Also, once she was old enough to sneak in to our bed in the middle of the night, I didn't want to risk her wetting our bed. Don't puppy pads have some sort of chemical added to them to attract the dog to pee on them? You can by human pee pads at the pharmacy.

Omg trailers are soooo heavy and my DD constantly took her helmet off and I wouldn't know because she was behind me. We ended up selling ours.
@Louise_Belcher if you're worried about your couch I would recommend covering a large section of it with a blanket when the baby comes. Between milk leaking and spit up, DS did a number on ours during the early days.
So Disney Channel is premiering a new show next week called "Andi Mack" the preview features Andi who is about to be 13 and her older sister Bex who comes home from being gone a long time. The trailer says there is a huge secret that is going to change Andi's life. My siblings are interested in it, so I was googling to find out what the secret is. Turns out, Andi's sister is actually Andi's Mom and Andi has been raised by her grandparents. Therefore the show is going to be about Andi dealing with finding out this new info at 13 and trying to find out who her dad is.
I know teen pregnancy happens, I'm not judging the situation, I just think it's a little heavy for Disney Channel. How do you go from Tangled Ever After, to a show about teen pregnancy? I feel like Disney doesn't understand who their demographic is? Idk. Maybe I am way off. I don't think my parents are going to allow my siblings who are 9 & 10 to watch the show.
@bacorrea i feel like that is a little much too. Ive been suprised by what all is in kids shows. I felt like my parents sheltered me when i was younger and now im seeing why. There is nothing wrong with a show like that, just not for little kids.
@bacorrea so curiosity got the best of me and I had to watch Andi Mack on YouTube. I agree there is nothing wrong with that subject matter, but not for kids. What also bothered me is the pilot seemed very poor production and bad acting. It seemed to me like it is destined to fail.
Love bike riding too and DS got a bike seat for his 1st birthday which was tons of fun, so sad it will probably be on DH to take him for rides this summer. Although I cannot imagine sitting on a bike seat in the first many weeks after delivery.
So we tried to have DS (1.5yr) spend the night at my parents tonight for the first time since he was very young (date night!) and he is now back home in his crib. Was really hoping it would go smoothly because it would be great to be able to have him stay over there a few nights during the first few weeks after new baby arrives. But that probably won't be happening based on tonight. He was so sweet, pathetic, and scared. He is such a little creature of habit which is wonderful and sometimes a bummer. He was not game for the different room/bed at their house. He is perfectly fine if they stay here with him overnight, which is what we have done in the past if we needed to be gone overnight. It's not his parents he wants, it's his crib. Now I am even more nervous about needing to switch him to a different room/bed at some point soon. Sorry for the pity party rant. If anyone has any pointers on getting a LO to be comfortable sleeping elsewhere I am all ears!
I've been MIA the last few days because apparently when it rains it pours. On Thursday morning DS was going down the slide in my mom's lap and (we think) he stuck his foot out to slow himself down and he broke his leg. He has been a real trooper. The break isn't too bad and he should get a permanent cast on it Monday (the ER did a temporary one). He's been hanging out in his "wheelbarrow" (we bought a cheapie umbrella stroller to use as wheelchair in the house) and overall doesn't seem to be in much pain, at least nothing that Tylenol and Motrin aren't helping with. He'll be imobile for 4-6 weeks which means he should be out of his cast by the time the baby comes but not by the time I have my mastectomy (tentatively scheduled for 4/20, got that call while sitting in the ER with DS). I was pretty overwhelmed about how to care for a toddler who can't walk while wrapping up my career while dealing with chemo side effects and managing a renovation and getting ready for a mastectomy. But today was a better day and I've talked to a few people who have known toddlers who broke legs and they've said they adjust really well and learn how to scoot once they get the hard cast on, so hopefully this isn't a huge setback. But ugh I just want to wrap my whole little family in bubblewrap.
Oh wow @RainyDays86 I'm so sorry. That is so much to deal with. Creepy internet hugs to you and your family. That is good he doesn't seem to be in much pain and is being such a little trooper.
Oh man @RainyDays86. I'm sorry to hear about little guy's break. No experience with broken legs, but I can speak to a broken arm. DD was a crazy woman with her arm cast. She tried to climb several climbing walls and it never slowed her down. There was a period of adjustment post- cast (think Ricky Bobby who thinks he can't walk). Two months out and she can't even remember which arm she broke.
@RainyDays86, so sorry that happened to your son! My friend's toddler had a broken leg recently and he definitely found a way to keep moving around and being active. I hope he's feeling better. It sounds like you have a ton going on, but you'll get through it!

@RainyDays86 I am so sorry to hear about your little one's leg! My son fractured his leg the same exact way when he was about 16 months old, except he was on my lap. I felt like the worst mom ever, but apparently it's a pretty common thing. If it makes you feel any better, he healed totally fine and has no lasting issues, and he did end up figuring out how to hobble along in his cast.
I'm so sorry about the timing of all this though, thinking of you guys and hoping he makes a quick recovery!
@RainyDays86 DS2 broke his leg when he was 20 months. He learned to scoot around, army crawl, and even walk on it. It's amazing how quickly kids are able to adapt. Sorry your little guy has to go through it, but I am sure he will surprise you.
