I was at my Ob appt today chatting with the nurse and she asked me if I've had my shower yet. Took me a second to respond because initially I thought she meant a shower to clean myself not one to celebrate me and the baby! I told her what I thought and we laughed together lol
Yay for another birth announcement! Makes me nervous about all I have left to do!! Congrats @SWoodd2012 can't wait to hear more when/if you're ready! He's adorable as can be!
Congrats @SWoodd2012 I hope you're both doing well!! Can't wait to hear more details whenever you're ready
All the trips to L&D and births that have been happening here in the last couple weeks sparked a fire under me to do more (washing everything, finishing the nursery, pack hospital bag, etc) be more ready in case anything happens!
Also, y'all please make sure to put a pee pad if you don't have a waterproof cover for your mattress! I don't know what the protocols are if your water were to break on the mattress and it soaked up everything. Mine broke in bed with DD so I was SO grateful I had a couple pee pads in place.

Did you have them under the sheet? How did you keep them in place? I have a mattress cover in my cart, maybe I should just order that. Ooh, should I put one in the car?!
@pshaortao I'm so thankful for STMs like you because these are things I never would have thought of. My mom actually told me the other day that she still has my old waterproof mattress cover from when I was a kid (twin bed), so we cut off the sides and I'm just going to slide it underneath sheets.
@nda_roxybabe I put mine under the sheet. I have ivory sheets and the edge of the pee pads are blue so I can kind of see through a little bit, so I can see when I need to adjust if needed. I overlapped two or maybe three? just to be safe.
The car isn't a bad idea! Or at least keep it handy for the ride to the hospital if your water breaks on its own. Now I'm thinking about my couch.. I really like that couch.. Haha
@pshaortao it's funny you say that because I "acquired" a whole pack of pads from work this week. I'm planning to tape a couple to my mattress to keep them in place. I'm thinking at like 34-36 weeks? And I want one or two to keep in the car. Also I read somewhere (here...?) to put one down on chairs you like to BF or sit with baby in until your bleeding stops in case your pad leaks so you don't have to jump up and interrupt a nursing session or ruin your furniture!
@pshaortao@nda_roxybabe I have a brand new mattress so we put a zip cover and a waterproof pad on it because it's under warranty and can't have any stains if we ever have a claim. The reason I doubled up is not necessarily in case my water breaks but because I had an oversupply issue while BF DD and would just leak everywhere constantly so we're covered this time! I already have another waterproof sheet on my "to buy for baby" list just for the couch because last time we had a leather couch and I would literally have a puddle to mop up every time she fed so this time we have a fabric couch and do not want to deal with having to clean it constantly.
@pshaortao I didn't think of the couch! I actually wouldnt be that sad about the bed, but we recently got a beautiful red sectional and I would be crushed to ruin it!
I was also told to use pee pads in the car after delivery to catch anything. So bed, couch, chairs and car. Luckily we have a large pack left over from puppy days.
Stuck in a box...second time this week! Congrats, @SWoodd2012 , Henry is ADORABLE!! Can't wait to hear the story if/when you are ready to share!
@nda_roxybabe , I just made the switch out of my normal bras this week because they were so uncomfortable. I'm wearing sports bra-like (more like just soft without underwire) nursing bras right now...no shame. I'm small chested, so they are plenty supportive. However, I catch the strap peeking out and I'm like "wtf is this super wide monstrosity!?"
This convo including the breast milk leaking has inspired me to buy a mattress cover. Amazon has good prices right now on CalmNite waterproof and hypoallergenic mattress covers. A king size is $23.95 right now marked down from $79.99. Good buy if anyone needs one!
I bought a mattress protector. I definitely didn't put pee pads anywhere last time. I read somewhere that 10% of women actually have their water break on their own. I have no idea if this is true, but I'm just meh about it.
@bacorrea That's the statistic I remember learning in our birthing class last time. I know it happens but I'm not as worried since mine didn't until the Dr broke it at 9cm. But still gonna be prepared for that reason and the inevitable milk puddles! We also put puppy pads down on the changing pad so we didn't have to wash the covers as often and that helped too!
I don't have time to read through these so maybe someone already said it, but someone at work said to me, "starting tomorrow, you can say 'the baby is due next month'." I thought that was a nice thing for all of us to look forward to!
I also used pee pads to line the changing table (or changing area, in the beginning). Everyone says little boys pee when their diapers are off, but no one warned me how often they might POOP during a diaper change. Without pee pads, it would have been a MESS (and I would have probably had a meltdown). I would stack them 4 or 5 thick, and it was super easy to ball up the top one in the event of an accident. I can't say for certain how long I used them, but it was until he got squirmy enough to be tough to keep them in place.
@emilyalso Your scaring me for little boy pee/poops! DD1 and DD2 never made enough mess on the changing table that I would feel the need for a pee pad!

Pee pads have been on my to-buy list for months now, every since @pshaortao mentioned them before. Now with surprise births at 35 weeks (congrats @SWoodd2012!), I'm feeling like I should get these things earlier than I anticipated! I haven't packed my hospital bag yet either.
@CherryBananas I had a fuzz with my first pregnancy but it went away months later (not sure how long it took though!!)
DH and I bought a new bed back in June and invested in a waterproof mattress protector! DD has been sick and we were laying in bed and she threw up all over our bed luckily we had it,that thing is magic and totally worth the money! Now I'm thinking I need puppy pad for the car just in case.
