Re: Randoms and Questions 3.6 - 3.10

  • @Jens_Hoes @WombThereItIs with my DD I struggled really bad with the weight gain. This time around I expected it a little more. I"m starting to get those old feeling back, but i'm trying to be more positive this time around. Last time I had PPD really bad and the feelings I had about my body and the extra weight made it so much worse. Just know that it DOES come off! Just remember the weight gain is temporary and so worth it in the end!

@rkstro2: yes, do start a baby showers thread! People like seeing those kinds of pics (decor, food, glowing mamas). And you could title it to include maternity photos, too, maybe, if you worry there's not a lot of interest, so it could be one big celebration thread, just a thought.
Oh that's an awesome idea!! Done!
  • @fbmandy55 I'm sorry about your friends and shower :(

@nda_roxybabe I'm so sorry about your husband's job

I'm on board for the shower thread!
  • Random, and this may belong in the GD check in thread, but I got a medical research update today and it included this article about GD. Basically, this study found that, even when controlling for other factors like BMI, activity level, etc, women who started their periods earlier in life had higher risk of GD.

Not sure if that will work without a subscription, but I think it should. Interesting reading for any other nerds like me :)

This is very interesting.  Anectdotally, I was 12 and am not overweight, but I've had GD with both of my pregnancies.  Diabetes is also rampant in my family, which is depressing me about my outlook.

That is quite interesting! I was a "late bloomer" at 16, and my blood sugar was extremely low at my test and has been for all 3 pregnancies.

  • @nda_roxybabe So sorry to hear about your husbands job, talk about a stressful time! Fingers crossed he finds something financially better soon!

This LO kicks 95% of the time super low. I rarely get any punches up high. The bladder kicks are killer and he's definitely dug his way deep into my hips.

  • Just catching up on the board as I've had quite a busy weekend. We had our baby shower celebration with MH's family in L.A.  We had so much fun seeing everyone and catching up... it was worth the time & effort for sure. The 6-7 hour drive there wasn't bad but the drive home was torture. My back and hips hurt and DS was so over being in his car seat. Luckily, I slept amazingly well last night after having little to no sleep over the last week.

Re: diaper bags- we started with a Coach diaper bag we were gifted but quickly switched to a Fisher Price diaper back pack quickly as it was more functional. I'm sticking with the diaper back pack type and want to get The Honest Co. vegan diaper back pack.

@bacorrea MH and I HATE that episode and always move on to the next episode.

@nda_roxybabe FX your H finds something better.

To all feeling sick/crappy/cranky: hang in there and feel better soon!

  • @Yiggle09 when you first sentence said something about your DH Italian family i was bracing for much crazier! my fiance's family is 100% Italian and they are NUTS sometimes! I joke with him all the time that it was a good thing i was knocked up before he took me to a big family function up north, because otherwise I would have run for the hills, luckily I love them all now! Anyways... i'm sorry about your DS.. I'm with you, I would stick to your guns and let them know that you really can't just take the day off because he is having an off day as long as his stomach troubles don't fall in the guidelines of HAVING to be picked up.

  • @BeachMommy2B ohh there is alot I could say about this weekend, italian relatives and pregnancy related conversation annoyances but i have to refrain! Trying to just put it behind me and brace for the next one. You know nothing I could have said would have stopped people from slipping him all this nonsense food he never eats, that would be offensive to them....
  • @Yiggle09 the Italian family part is cracking me up a little because both DH and I are Italian and they are definitely loud and crazy  (but well meaning) most of the time. It's hard when the older generations clash with the younger ones and get offended about things like food (or just the fact that we do things differently now than in their day). So I've got sympathy for you!
  • @MoshiMoshi7 thanks! I do know they care but sometimes how they care is so not how I show I care.
  • Ok based on the Deals thread, I know we have some Noggle lovers around here. I'm in Indiana so the summers are definitely hot but not insane and typically are mid-may to early/late sept depending on the year. Is this something I should consider?
  • @ShadeofGreen816
Interesting. I didn't have GD with my first but have it now with my second. I had PCOS before which is a major risk factor for GD but also started early at 12.

My family is German on both sides and my husband always complains when we are together. He said it's like a contest on who can talk the most and talk the loudest between my parents and siblings and I. Apparently we all talk over each other!
  • @Jkp7749 Keep us updated! Also, this is all very new to me and I don't quite know how it works. Is there a chance you'll have to deliver early?
  • Interesting info about GD. I was an earlier starter (summer between 4th and 5th grade which I think put me at 10 years old?) I also have PCOS which increases my risk but I had low blood sugar with DD and normal with this pregnancy.

  • @Jkp7749 glad to hear that the babies are doing better! Hopefully things continue on a positive track!

@RainyDays86 that is fantastic!! Glad to hear the placenta is doing its job and keeping all the chemo out!
  • @starphish18 that cat shoot made me smile so hard!!
  • @Jkp7749 T&P for many more weeks of growing for your LOs.
@RainyDays86 great update!!! I am still floored that you can get chemo while pregnant. I don't work with an oncology population, but anytime we have patients on chemo, anyone who is pregnant avoids them like the plague!
@LilMissCrafty I've been similarly mood swing-y. Add to it that I felt like total crap all weekend I'm sure he's more in love with me than ever!
  • @ShadeofGreen816 thank you for sharing! I started at 10 and was angry and bitter about it, and now have GD (despite hippie nerd diet and exercise habits), and am angry and bitter about it THANKS SCIENCE! (It's actually ended up being really manageable but was a shock and disappointment at first.)

I also have a very acrobatic baby and like @Kipperoo I can't help ascribing the baby's overactivity to personality--in my mind she'll be no shy bookish type but will be born straight-up thrasher punk rock, heaven help us all.

I live in AZ and I have black interior.  I don't have a Noggle in my car, but DH has one in his.  I have the darkest/most UV resistant tint I could get and great air circulation. I don't have vents in the back, but my car cools quickly.  I think it depends on your car & air circulation.  The Noggle is a bit annoying when you are a passenger in DH's car.

  • @ShadeofGreen816 we are going to be in El Paso, TX aka surface of the sun. I have vents above each seat in the van and my car will be in the garage when at home. I think it's like @NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot said, it depends on your car.

@ShadeofGreen816 - DIEHARD NOGGLE FAN HERE! I would say it's a good purchase no matter how hot your summers are! Carseats do. not. breathe. And even on days when I thought it wasn't that hot out, DS's back would be wet when I got him out. I felt like it was a self-perpetuating problem in some ways - like... he was hot, so he cried, which made him hotter, etc. I will be buying a second Noggle for this baby for sure.

ETA: I'm so glad I saw your post! I only check the deals thread every now and then and might have missed the sale - thank you!
  • @RainyDays86 I'm so happy to hear of your LO's growth!  Keep up the good work mamma!!
