  • I have the same accent wall picture pinned @mrsrep123! Alas, we're renting so no fun walls for me.
  • @nda_roxybabe we have the Hemnes dresser and it is awesome ! I used it for a changing table when DS was a newborn too, perfect height. You just need a pad on it.

@ShadeofGreen816 what is with guys and the sports theme?! I've had to talk my DH down from the over the top theme as well!
If we were having a boy it would have totally been a fireman/Chicago sports teams theme.... although even with a girl I'm still looking at adding some sports and firefighter stuff.
  • I am pretty sure this child is a girl. My ob used the handheld fetal monitor last time and saw three lines, definitely no penis. So I'm only thinking about a girly nursery right now. If it's a boy then I'll most likely use DS's stuff. We did a vintage circus theme for him with lots of handmade touches and I still love it. For a girl I'm thinking woodland creatures and floral. I want to get newborn pictures made with a floral wreath like the ones on the animals. Here are some of my pictures for inspiration:

  • @champhe Yay! We have it in black in our room and love it, but I am glad to hear the height is good for the changing pad.

  • So I want to do book ledges like in @mrsrep123 last picture. STM's: Should I do at a height that baby can reach like in the picture? Or should I do higher up, maybe lining the wall? I like the idea of baby being able to grab a book, but I also kind of love the idea of not picking up books every 5 minutes.

@nda_roxybabe I'd put ledges at kid height.  I'd also plan to have an extra bin of books because it always seems like the ledges don't hold that many.  We have so many kids books in our house.  We have a bin and bookshelf in DD's room, a bin in the living room, and about a bin's worth in the playroom.

ETA: Kid height, not book height.  Book height makes no sense.

  • @nda_roxybabe I do everything at the child's height, but I lean towards montessori set up for a child's room/play room. I think you want you're child to have access to their books, toys, etc

That is a really good point. Now, just need to find/ make the shelves and have Dad install! woohoo.

  • I"m personally thinking of doing... Grey walls, white furniture and pink accents... I also want to incorporate some things that are important to us that aren't as traditionally "girly" for example firefighter stuff and sports stuff...  Something like this, but in white I would think would be amazing and so cute! Fire Maltese Cross P and J Wreaths
  • @nda_roxybabe for DD's room we used spice racks from Ikea as her book ledges/shelves. They come as a plain light brown so you can paint them any color you want. They were super cheap too!
  • @achays11 That's what I've been looking at. Pretty sure we will go that route.

  • I haven't put much thought into a nursery yet. We have a small place right now. When we find a bigger place we can set up a nursery. I don't have a theme but I want lots of colors and things I see that I like.

@champhe we have the Hemnes dresser as well! Great piece of furniture from IKEA. It's sturdy and has just the amount of storage space for baby's stuff.

We used (another IKEA) bookshelf, laid it on the floor and lined up all of our son's books there. We would sit on his floor and he had all access!

  • The talk of dressers has reminded me: Be sure to anchor your furniture! Not just in baby's room, but everywhere. Including the TV. It's pretty quick and easy to do and so worth it.
YES.  A kid of a friend of ours just hurt her arm when a dresser tipped over on her.  It could have been so much worse.

  • @ShadeofGreen816 If you do the star theme, get this crib skirt! https://www.landofnod.com/deep-space-crib-skirt/f15993 SO pretty.

We are also planning on the same shelves and if you have an IKEA near you they have some that are really inexpensive.

ETA I think they are called picture ledges.

  • @mrsrep123 I love your inspiration pictures!  And we had the exact same shelves from your third pic in our nursery for DS.  They're from Ikea and were great.  We put them high up but I think that was a mistake, I wish they had been lower so he could access them.
  • We are doing a nautical nursery with whales and stuff. We are team green and I'm getting some slack about it being too boyish, but we still like it!
  • @Louise_Belcher I forgot about that idea, I think I'll do that as well! I'm still going to do the book ledges, but I love the toy storage.

@nda_roxybabe , 2nd this recommendation! We tried ledges with my DS and his book collection VERY quickly accelerated past what would fit on the ledges. And books are one thing I have a hard time culling back on because we read SO many every day and it gets repetitive for both of us if they are hyper-curated.

  • @Louise_Belcher , we used a similar storage solution with my DS's room (a bookshelf from Ikea that looks identical to your closet pic). Ours isn't hidden in the closet, but we use the top as a changing table, the first row of shelves as book storage, and the bottom row has baskets with toys. It's SO perfect that we plan to replicate in the new baby's room!

  • OMG I'm so lazy and not creative compared to you bunch. This is basically it as far as "decorations" we did in DS room. Some navy blue dots. The opposite wall has a small changing table + the crib for the new LO. Since baby #2 is a girl and they still need to share a room we are sticking some white dots on her side of the room and calling it a day.

Cube shelf with books and all clothes are in the closet.

    Glider is in my room.

I'm going ocean themed for this one, but I'm going to add pirate stuff for a boy or mermaid stuff for a girl, big sister has an enchanted forest room I had a blast doing... Pinterest is an evil place
  • No nursery plans yet. I'm waiting until we learn the sex. DS had a nautical nursery.  We have to completely clean out our junk room and an entire closet before I can go into nursery planning mode. It gives me anxiety just thinking about it. I love all the inspiration in this thread.
  • Lots of awesome ideas on here! Thanks for sharing! I ordered all white furniture and plan to get a grey chair. Walls have been painted grey and one wall will have stripes. Hubby and I love grey but I want to add lots of girly touches...thinking pink, floral and definitely animals. I also want an area for lots of books. I know we have lots of time but I am anxious to get it ready!

  • I won't start real nursery plans until we find out the gender. Our two girls gave their own room with a jack & Jill bathroom. If we have another girl this one will share with DD #2. Her room is a Woodlawn creature theme. If we are surprised with
a boy ideally the two girls would share a room and we'd turn the other into a nursery. DD #1 has already said she wants to keep her room. It is pink princess overload (her choice). I feel guilty that either would lose their room because I feel it suits them. We do have a guest
room with its own bath but I don't want to lose my craft closet. I also don't think it would be fair for the youngest to get his own bathroom. We recently built our home so our plan is to stay here until we retire.
  • We are team green but I asked from the week we got our bfp if I could do a Cubs/baseball inspired nursery. It will mostly be surrounded by the colors but will definitely have Cubs/baseball elements. Most of our stuff is second hand or repurposed things we already have in our house so I don't think we will have a crazy elaborate nursery. But this is my inspiration.

my house is pretty minimalist so I imagine my nursery will be too.

I personally Love this! Even though I'm having a girl she will still have Cubs stuff!
  • @cubslove12 figured you'd like it ;) I've had at least one already tell me that I better hope I have a boy. Pretty sure girls can like baseball and the Cubs too. I'm one of the biggest fans I know and this baby 100% proves I'm a female ;) Nursery decorations are for the parents anyway. May as well have it be something I love!

  • Unfortunately we won't be able to have an actual nursery but my walls are done in a light tan. since baby will be living in hubs and my bedroom until we get a new place I'm going to go a little simple with decor. my stuff is in browns and greens but for baby I want to do browns with orange (green touches if it meshes well) and accent with foxes. Not sure how it will all blend but I'll make it work. :)
