They offer the moon decal (and a zillion other designs) in many colors AND sizes! It was definitely a slow process putting it up (all the specks are separate pieces so you have to be careful when peeling off the backing) but we loved it and wanted to build around it! I will say as the sticker "cured" it shrank a bit and left a gap so if you get a decal from them, I round overlap them by 1/8" instead of matching up the edges exactly to leave room for them to shrink a tad. I love moons, stars, and constellations and nature so we landed on a nighttime woodland scene. I think we might paint the dots of our constellations of all of our signs once the baby is born! He's on the cusp of Taurus & Gemini so we'll have to wait & see when he comes.
The dresser is from All Modern and I love it , but I will say the wood drawer fronts are little "dirtier" in tone than I had hoped. Also it was a beast to put together! The instructions were poorly written and it was just very awkward. All that said we love it now and it's the perfect size for a small-ish nursery It's also on sale!!
The Mobile is from etsy, she has really great mobiles, all handmade & really great colors. The most beautiful little girl mobile she has looks like wisteria and is seriously gorgeous, for all you girl moms out there!! I think she's based in Russia so it does take a bit to arrive but worth it IMO
I love mobiles and want to get one but I don't understand the positioning of the things that hang. Isn't it supposed to be for the baby to look at from below? I keep imagining what the item would look like from underneath from baby's POV and it seems all mobiles do it from the parent's POV. Am I missing something?
@chailife34: You're right about the POV. Here's a random example of a mobile in which the little items are more "flat" from the baby's perspective.
So those types are available! This isn't a great example of one I'd choose, though, because a newborn's eyesight is still blurry for awhile, and contrast is the best aspect to look for in a mobile. Then it's the movement that captures their attention. But then again, any mobile is good to have, for strengthening the visual acuity and giving them something to focus on and be (even slightly) entertained/soothed by.
@sweaterboots love it all! Is that a mini crib? If so, where did you get the bedding? Our minicrib is still shrinkwrapped but I'm sure I can get DH to put it up over the next month or so lol.
In regards to mobile positioning, I don't think the items being "towards" the baby are as important as color contrast.
@sweaterboots That mobile is adorable, and not a bad price! I like your woodland theme, too. We're not going super strong with a theme for our nursery, but we do have some animal accents...more zoo/safari style, but kind of a mix and match. I'll get some pictures up once we have the rest of the decor done. I love this mobile on Etsy, but it's $168 and I just can't justify that.
@starphish18 i love the mobiles with the animals done like that. I cant remember what they call it, its a certain way to do felt and my pregnancy brain is getting me right now, but they are always expensive! There was a beautiful one i wanted for dd that had soft white bunnies on it.
@chailife34 Most mobiles are totally geared towards parents and nursery adorableness. I thought the same thing (why doesn't the baby get to look at something cool?) when I was pregnant with my first so I copied the Manhattan Toy style of mobile and it turned out looking like little sailboats from an adults perspective and fun pictures from the kiddos perspective. I used this photo for inspiration of what designs to have facing baby:
And I posted on page 1 of this thread with our "nursery" corner for DD (changing table and mobile/paper lantern installation in our room when we lived in a wee apartment) if you want to see how it was actually done.
@erinh2005 it's a community playthings crib! We inherited it from our friends whose boy just outgrew it, and it came with the bedding. I wish I could be more helpful!
@starphish18 that mobile IS beautiful. You're right that is pricey! I bet those animals take a long time to make with the felt fibers. BTW the leather moose we got is by a company called ZUNY on Amazon, they have a really cool leather hippo you might like! It's more of a bookend/doorstop but a cute decoration nonetheless that your mobile pic reminded me of they have a ton of different animals!
@mdlorenz Looks just like the Manhattan toy one. Nice adaption! This was exactly what I had in mind about baby POV.
@WombThereItIs I'm with you, baby needs to go the f to sleep, let's limit the stimulation. I like the idea over a changing area as a distraction so business can be handled.
Yea, i think it's more just about movement and color. I better get to making ours! I'm ordering 2 crocheted Wes Anderson characters and then making the other 2 and hanging on an embroidery hoop.
The plan is to use our master for us with the mini crib for this LO and a changing supplies area. So DD will be in her own room while the baby is in with us for as long as that works. We haven't had a bed for our master for three months but just got one set up over the weekend! So the first pic is our BEFORE pic of when we were sharing DDs twin trundle. And the rest of the pics are AFTER showing our weekend progress. Still nothing for this LO but we're getting somewhere! BEFORE: AFTER: And our room so far:
Posting this here even though it's my 2.5 year olds room, because it is technically a nursery but also has the paint color that was being discussed on the HDBD thread! In case anyone is looking for a pretty gray/beige...this is Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter in truly awful lighting (the room has black out shades, so no natural light). Also, please ignore the slight disarray in the room, these were taken in a rush!
@MrsFreeman2010, it really is such a pretty, multi faceted neutral. I'm debating on it for my main floor living space, but currently really loving my white walls, so I haven't taken the plunge...
@WombThereItIs the mobile was actually a lifesaver for me with both my kids! I had the kind that you could wind up, and it spins and plays music. It lasted approximately the same amount of time I took to shower, so I would put baby in the crib with the mobile going and take a nice shower! With older daughter I didn't have to worry about dog being in her face, with younger daughter I didn't have to worry about older daughter being in her face and trying to pick her up!
Today I got around to adding some color. We've got a sun/moon/stars theme for DD/new baby's room. I had a broken umbrella that I dissected and added a sun pillow:
Also added lights:
(These are above the chair rail, cables blocked by bookshelf)
Under the chair rail is chalkboard paint, which DD loves to color on. Highly recommend!
Now I've gotta hang some glow in the dark stars and I think we'll be set
We never got around to purchasing the crib bedding before Lucia was born. I was originally thinking about a neutral teal and lime elephant to match the aqua blue paint in the nursery. Today I found this new set. Do you all think it matches with aqua blue walls?
I'm going to go ahead and call this room done! Just waiting on a throw pillow for the chair because my cat destroyed the one that was on there...I think it will only let me paste one picture in the body of this on mobile...if that's the case, the second pic is attached. OH and does anyone have any easy suggestions for getting the ugly stickers off the side of the crib??
