@LoneStar21416 we have grey/washed furniture from BRU in our older daughter's nursery and I seriously wish I could have a matching set for my bedroom. It's so pretty.

Oooh pretty sure I saw that when we picked out DS1's, it was beautiful
Either sex will have an enchanted forest theme ... More Peter Pan influence if it's a boy, Fairies if it's a girl. Thinking toadstools and woodland creatures. Olive as a staple color, with either a dusty rose or a dark cobalt blue accordingly.
I'm so jealous of everyone who gets to start decorating their nurseries soon. We're living in a one BR apartment until we move back to the US next summer, so baby won't really have a dedicated space for the first few months. But I'm super pumped to have a home when we move back that I get to decorate from scratch, starting with a forest theme in LO's room.
I think everyone inspired me to go off the character path and stay with what I love for the theme. We're definitely going with the white/gray elephant theme. We'll have pops of soft pink or soft blue, depending on the sex of the baby. DH is really loving yellow as the pop of color though, so we'll see how that works out.
We bought our first pieces for the nursery last night at Pottery Barn Kids (mobile, blanket, and night light). The purchase was under $70, because we signed up for a registry (10% off items before the shower and an additional complete discount after the shower). I also fell in love with an elephant rocker. It's crazy to think this is all for our baby!
DH & I are working on painting the nursery today - it's a light green. We are planning on a forest animal theme, and in particular focusing in on foxes.
We're also doing a light green on the walls. My overall inspiration is this fabric, which I'll be making into curtains and incorporating into her quilt. Plus walnut/white furniture, gold accents and some mid-century flavor since that matches the rest of the house.
I have about a million other home projects I should be working on, but the nursery makes me happiest.
I always make these before I get too far to make sure everything is cohesive (also to show H because he has no vision with this stuff sometimes!) we're going with a chair and a half rocking chair to fit 2 babies (or toddlers), white walls and cribs, gray bedding. Different shades of wood, brass and nickle and black metal, wood crates for books and a wood mirror at the floor (for tummy time/ development) My rug is different (more of a batik pattern) but it's the same/similar colors
DS's nursery was gender neutral because we were team green the first time around and the room was literally two-tone green with white and dark brown accents. I'm excited to do a theme with this boy! Looking at Monsters Inc/University because DS bought his baby brother a baby Sully at Disney World when we found out the sex. Plus, DS's big boy room is based off Andy's room from Toy Story as far as wainscoting and color but Super Hero decor! So I kinda have a Pixar movie thing going on.
@kenglish1 Yes, it is from the store linked below. It was a custom piece, so I don't know that she currently has the same one listed in the store. You can find many in this style if you search "Waldorf mobile" on Etsy.
I'm having a hard time making a decision about paint for the nursery. I was in the room cleaning it out today and realized the walls are slanted/curved enough at the top that there is no obvious spot where the wall ends and the ceiling begins (if that makes sense). The roof on our home is pointy thus yielding slanted/curved walls on two sides.
My thought now is maybe to just put a fresh coat of white paint on the wall and do accents of color everywhere. I'm slightly concerned the white might be too harsh so maybe I'll look for a very light grey I could use on the walls and ceiling.. any thoughts would be helpful!
@TinaBelcher that's hilarious... I thought I was the only person who went nuts and put all the stuff together like that! I did one when we moved into our first house for every room, so much easier to piece it all together and to play around with what works! (As you can see I'm deciding between 2 gliders at the moment ) Here's Mine!
@LeahNicole you can definitely use the same color for the walls and ceiling! We did this in our den, albeit with navy, and I love it.
If you want the room to feel open and bright it's a good idea to stick with a light color. I'd also lean towards a warmer shade so it doesn't feel stark, as opposed to just a bright white. I'm sure you can find a light gray with warm tones, or depending on the natural light in the room, a light cream or even very light blue shade might work as well.
@AshleySparkle720 that rug is so cute! Where does everyone get their rugs? Our new house will have wood floors in the bedrooms and I definitely want rugs in both boys rooms!
@briannae129129 where are those gliders from and what do you like about them? For some reason, this has been a very difficult item for us lol I think I need to see some in person. I am concerned about comfort and a few of the reviews I've read on random models at Target, BBB, etc, are less than stellar from a comfort perspective.
@nolemomma14 Rugs USA for the win! I've bought all sorts of rugs from there and they're my favorite. Joss and Main has some gorgeous ones too but they tend to run a little more expensive. You just have to be on the lookout for a good deal
@LoneStar21416 I'm with you! I think I started with 5 different ones. I chose it based on price, reviews and the clean lines of it. I prefer the bottom one over the top since it rocks in all directions not just back and forth. I would love a $1500 one from Pottery Barn but there's no way I can justify that for 1 chair! Here's the link to the one we like. Hope that helps you a little!
@KRB22 thanks! I ended up getting two samples of a gray today. One is a little bit darker and the other more of a light gray. I'm excited to see how it looks. I think I've decided on a dark gray rug as the room has wood floors. We purchased a crib today, it's white and I think I am going to reuse a dresser we already have but paint it a color to give the room some color! Thanks for your input!!
I don't have any pics at the moment of my DD's nursery but the walls are pink, the area rug is purple, the curtains are aqua and there are some light green accents so it was more of a colour theme than anything.
If this LO is a girl her room will have purple walls and teal/aqua accents.
If it's a boy his will be orange, blue and green colours.
I guess ill be starting next week when we find out.
I just read through this entire thread and am on a decorating high! We will not be doing anything for baby's room this time, but maybe a few accents here and there after he/she is born. The room is currently blue and has a PB woodsy colorful comforter on the guest bed, but I don't really want to go overboard as we will be moving in two years.
What are anyone's thoughts on using a book shelf like this one as a changing space?
With a changing pad on the top?
I'm using an older family dresser for the baby but it's far too tall to be a changing station. The room isn't huge so I'm trying to find something I can use as a shelf and changing station.
@LeahNicole love that idea! I don't want to get a dresser for a changing table because I want things more easily on hand and a changing table doesn't seem practical enough long term. Love the idea of a book shelf! I guess the key is just finding something deep enough for a changing pad. Thanks for the idea!
Just found out we are having another girl!! But fatigue has been strong with this one so I'm probably going to just be lame and paint the walls all one colour (probably purple) and use the same owl theme bedding we have from #1...I find it boring but money is tight so must reuse as much as possible. Merp
@mudderbear we're reusing a lot mainly because they'll be less than 2 years apart and it'll be nice to get as much out of the bedding as possible! It's not like they know haha
