The Nursery Thread

Now that many of us are finding out the sex of our babies, it's time to start thinking about nurseries!  What are you guys doing?  Themes, colors, entire wings of the house?  I've recently returned to Pinterest after a long hiatus just to plan this little one's nursery.  So long to our guest room!

Re: The Nursery Thread

  • I'm doing a Where the Wild Things Are nursery for LO.  We've already found someone to paint a mural on the wall and I'm so excited :)

All the kid's rooms are themes based on different books.  I wanted to do a Harry Potter room but DH convinced me to wait until they are old enough to appreciate it.
  • This LO is getting the short end of the stick on a nursery... But for my first we did a colorful safari theme and then when DS2 was born (they room together) I made it into a red/white/blue transportation theme. This LO will just get a corner of our bedroom until he is ready to join his brothers. But I would like to decorate it a bit if possible. It'll be very neutral (gray and white patterns) as that is how our room is decorated.
Baby Boy 3 is on the way!

  • Loading the player...
  • If it's a boy I'm going with vintage airplanes, if it's a girl I'm going color scheme of blush, champagne and ivory with pops of mint rather than a theme.
  • We're planning on using lavender, teal and gray as our colors for a girl. If it's a boy, we might do a Nemo theme, but we're not sure. DS might get jealous because he's all about Nemo right now.
  • We find out the sex on Monday and I can't wait to finally get started on the nursery! If the baby is a girl, we're thinking Classic Winnie the Pooh with light yellow walls and white furniture. If the baby is a boy, we're thinking Finding Nemo with teal walls and dark wood furniture. We found a set at BBB that only comes in a white finish or dark wood finish, so we're set to order as soon as we know the sex.

However the other night at BBB, I fell in love with a grey/white elephant set up. We've called the baby Peanut since my BFP and it's hard to focus my attention elsewhere. Once furniture is ordered, I may revisit the theme with DH.
  • We were team green with our first so our nursery is beach themed. Blue-green walls, off white furniture with pops of coral colors throughout. My mom made a gorgeous seashell mirror and mobile and we have a huge vintage looking oar hanging over the crib.

DD just got upgraded to the guest room which we remodeled for her so the new baby can move straight into the nursery as is.

  • I am back on Pinterest all the time too.  We are currently renting a 2 bedroom apartment (and just started clearing out the guest room/office/dumping ground for homeless stuff).  Our lease is up mid- April and I really want to move into a house instead of renewing, so I have no plans of painting the nursery or really decorating the walls in any permanent type of way.  We are hopefully finding out the sex today -baby better not be crossing their legs! DH said he wants each wall of the nursery to be different- one wall cars, one wall planes, one wall sports, and one wall construction.  I veto'd that immediately as that sounds like a hot mess and far more permeant than our current lease is allowing for.

I'm thinking either planes (DH loves WW2 airplanes) or sports for a boy (but just one at time).  I can also see DH finding Star Wars decor for the nursery too.  For a girl I'm thinking frilly and soft.  We were married last year and I still have a lot of sparkly stuff left over that I can re-purpose.  Whatever we do will be minimal until we move.

  • I love our daughter's room. It's such a peaceful light gray color with white furniture and curtains. Accent colors are mint, peach, coral and golden yellow. It's not too themey but does have a
southwestern nod. I made a dreamcatcher mobile and her quilt has some tribal prints.

We we don't know the sex of this one yet, but I have a plan anyway. We will probably do the same light gray and have mint as well- since the glider sofa chair is mint. I want to bring in branches and make a mobile with branches and birds. I'll probably put up some cute animal photos and decorate with rusty orange accents. We don't do bedding sets. Just a few mattress sheets and my mom will make a cute quilt.
  • My DDs nursery room was purple and grey with an owl bedding set/theme. Two walls were grey, one with purple circles all over it, and the other two were purple with the owl stickers. I didn't love it but whatever. We moved, so she got a big girl room.(don't know why the colour is so different in the second picture)

Now for this bubba im thinking a grey, teal and white or grey, coral and white if it's a girl although the teal would be fine for a girl too, can't decide and don't find out for another 16 days boo! Was thinking a chevron wall but I have no desire to do all that work
  • We're doing off-white with lots of colors. Navy, mint, orange, fuchsia, teal, and pops of gold accents. A mild deer theme will be around, some wall hangings, a pillow, a cross-stitch project I just did. If it's a boy we will play up the navy, and if it's a girl we'll play up the fuchsia.

  • We're renting a two bedroom apartment but second bedroom will go to my mom who is probably going to move in and baby sit for us.  We're looking to buy a house next year and will have an official nursery then. In the mean time, baby gets a corner in our bedroom. I will start collecting items/buying stuff in certain colors for when we do move in to a house.

Our anatomy scan is next Thursday, I CANNOT wait!!!

Girl colors: white, grey, light pastel pink, with bright coral accents

Boy colors: white, grey, light pastel blue, with bright orange accents

  • We were split on a space explorer/astronaut theme and a My Neighbor Totoro theme but apparently Totoro won because OH started buying Totoro decorations without telling me :)

Couple of inspirational pictures for now since we're not actually decorating until we move into our new house:

  • We aren't deciding on a theme until we find out boy or girl but we've mostly decided on colors. We are going with medium/light grey furniture, and if it's a girl the accent colors will be mint, navy, coral and white, and if it's a boy just mint, navy and white.
  • With my first, our nursery is a buttery yellow color so we brought in grey accents. A few elephants depending on what sheet is on the mattress and in the mobile but otherwise pretty basic. We have decided that it will be easier to move my son to the guest room and redo that room and keep the nursery the same (no need to move the crib and changing table and chair). Still trying to decide how we will decorate his new room but need to get on that so it's not too close to baby's arrival. Also, may add some slightly more feminine touches to the grey and yellow if we find out this one is a girl

  • We're doing a mod fairy tale woods concept.  One wall will have tree wall paper, and the rest will be various shades of grey chevrons.  The colors will all be neutral except furniture pops of bright red.  I can't wait! Its going to be so pretty!!
  • DSs nursery was gray with white and navy blue thrown in. He had some baseball things in there, so that was technically the theme but it was literally 3 things lol.

We're moving into a new house and will re do his room in a vintage transportation theme. He's currently obsessed with cars, airplanes and trains!

The new nursery will be the same gray, and I've picked whales whether it's a boy or girl! I just love whales, I think they're adorable. Our wedding theme was nautical so we have some cute decor left over that I think will work great as well. We will stick with navy blue and white as accent colors, and throw in light pink if it's a girl.

  • We're going with a mythological creature theme... I have a couple different color ideas, but nothing set in stone yet. We've got time and lots of projects before I'm going to worry about it

@TinaBelcher dd1 has a gallery wall. Lots of raw wood/black & greys. It took me until she was 11 months old to have it remotely complete. Baby #2 will be inheriting it. Nursery done :) I'll add more stuff.

  • I'm torn between two light fixtures to add some texture to the nursery. So it'll be one of these, but the colors will be coral, black, teal, and silver. DD's nursery was pink, gold, black, and gray so I was trying to create something different, but still cute.

  • @AshleySparkle720 both of those are beautiful! I lean more towards to the one that ultimately has the round shape (2nd) but I would pick the one that matches your crib the best. Our crib furniture has hard lines and no curves so I think the first square would go better in a room like ours.

  • @AshleySparkle720 the first one. I love it
  • @ThePax89 love it!!!

@AshleySparkle720 I love the first one
  • We are team green, and will probably reuse for the next baby, so all the major elements will definitely be neutral.

We have a lot of grays and blues in our house already and the nursery gets great light, so I want to keep the colors crisp and bright. Thinking mostly white or a cooler bright gray with pops of saturated colors, eg, greens or blues. No real theme, but I have a couple of prints/fabrics in mind that I will probably use as a jumping off point.
  • @AshleySparkle720 I prefer the second one but you really can't go wrong with either!

  • I wish I could say we're being super creative, but we're just reusing what we already have from DS.
  • I LOVED putting together the Nursery for my DD. I am excited to start this one but want to wait to find out the sex before I get to heavy in planning. For my DD I painted this huge tree on the wall with flowers that looked like the wind was blowing them off.

    then with the crib

I love it and will be sad when we move and have to leave it behind. LOL

  • @shlecka I love that, especially the map print!
  • Love all the nurseries!

I'm not a huge fan of tons of color so a gender neutral nursery is perfect!  We are doing a grey crib with white furniture and animal accents in the room. Now that we're having a boy I might throw in a little blue in there too! I love the baby animal prints from online and want to frame a bunch for the wall to bring it all together. We're hopefully finally buying a house in the next couple of months so for now I need to stick to pinterest and planning until we move!

If it's a boy, I'd like to do an anchor/nautical/blue and white theme.

If it's a girl, I'd like to do either an owl theme or a woodland creatures theme. I may actually do woodland creatures, with an emphasis on owls. The best of both worlds! :)  <3

Edited because I forgot a word, but then remembered it.

  • Still waiting to see if we need to add anything to the nursery for this baby since we are leaving that pretty much the same and moving our son to a new room. However, with that said I am definitely all about trying to decide how to decorate his new room and make it special for him.

  • We are doing a traveler/explorer theme. Colors will be mostly yellow and gray, and some green. I'd like gray furniture. I saw some at Pottery Barn that would be very nice with the theme because it has a washed look to it. Of course, it's expensive. I have to shop around. We're hoping to make some headway this weekend and really start narrowing down prospective pieces.
