@jhems776- darn! I always hate that... I just walk by and keep looking longingly, pushing out my bump until someone takes pity and offers me one. No shame in my game.
@jhems776- YES! It's 10:40 (I think you're on the East Coast??), 10 donuts left.. those would be stale by afternoon. You did you duty to snag one while fresh. Atta girl
So, on the subject of workplace snacks... This would be a great post for BFM or WTF Wednesday but it's Friday, so...
Anyway, I have this coworker. He's hard to describe. Let's just say cheap. Very, very, very cheap. But also LOVES food. So if there's free food, he's all over it. Like, heaping plate after heaping plate until it's gone...sometimes by 10am when it's a "treat" that should have lasted the team the whole day (or more). He's the kind of guy who complains when we go out for team lunches (birthdays or whatever) unless we go somewhere where he's not obliged to tip and/or a buffet (so he can get the maximum bang for his buck). Let me also add, he's not hurting for money. He's just cheap. And the "cheapness" doesn't bother me. I've had periods in my life where I've been aggressively paying down debt or saving for something where I literally spend $0 on anything. I get that. The part that gets me is taking advantage of others to get the maximum return on whatever you want without having to contribute anything.
Which brings me to today. The first weekly "Snack Friday" started in our department. Our team was selected first in the rotation to bring the treats to share with the rest of the department and we won't have to again for another nine weeks. It's an unspoken (half spoken) rule around here that if you "don't participate in the treating, you don't participate in the eating." So this guy knew he had to contribute something or he'd miss out on the platefulls of free food he desperately wanted. So....he takes the candy shared by our team off our "team tables" and puts it out for the department to eat. Also, I must mention that the candy is all expired. (We work for a major retailer and when the Pantry team has candy samples that expire, they hand them out to whoever wants them.) So, his contribution to "Snack Friday" was the expired candy that we, as a team, got for free and have been sharing for the last week.
The worst part of it all is that we tried explaining to him how wrong it was and he stands FIRM in his defense (with ridiculous excuse after ridiculous excuse.) Oh, AND - he took all the candy away yesterday afternoon while I was in the bathroom. I came back, intending to get a Hershey Kiss and when it wasn't there, I asked him about it. He confessed to taking them for "Snack Friday" and that "possession is 9/10ths of the law" and therefore I'd have to wait until today to have one. Excuse me!? I don't know where you're from but NOWHERE is it ok to take chocolate away from a pregnant lady!
Sorry for the long rant. Had to get it off my chest. Working with this guy over the last 2.5 years has slowly drained all my patience for his antics.
@jhems776 YES!! I would have done the same thing!!!
My random for the day is that we got the most adorable picture of baby curling up for her nap on Wednesday during our ultrasound and I cannot stop looking at it. Sweet little baby
ETA: I realize I put she. We don't actually know the sex but I'm leaning towards girl
@JennM205- He sounds extremely annoying. And I think he might be my husband's uncle (that is.. if his uncle held a real job other than being a "handy man")
Let me take you back to the first time I met him, in Boston, a few years back...
My husband and I were in college, we went up to Boston for a music show with his mother and uncle. The uncle said "Hey, let's all go to P.F. Changs for dinner!" to which we weren't thrilled but said ok, that's fine. I mean, there's lots of really good restaurants in Boston, I wouldn't rank PFChangs among them. But whatever, we go. Now I'm a vegetarian - that limits my menu options everywhere we go but I roll with it. I look through the menu and see a few things that sound pretty good. Uncle then says "I've got some coupons, so here are the items on the menu that you can choose from" ... they are horrible selections. At this point my (now)husband and I look at each other and just roll with it.. we're college kids, we're about to get a free meal, we can eat random fake-Chinese food from a super limited list.
We eat, I'm disappointed, nothing is good that I had to order. The meal ends, the check comes. Uncle pulls a wad of coupons out of his breast pocket (I will risk getting flamed here, and say that this uncle is the most stereotypical Jewish man and is the one that is keeping the Jews being cheap theory alive, single handedly), and places his PFChang coupon in the little folder then hands the bill to us. We look confused.
He explains that his coupon is for a buy 2 get 1 free entree, and that his contribution to the check is his coupon for his free entree... because of our 2 entrees that we now needed to pay for!! WTF?!?! We hadn't even gotten food that we liked, just so he could get his free dinner.
He saw no issue with this and was very proud of his couponing ways. Never. Again.
Question - Is anyone else experiencing swelling at this point? I didn't have any problems with swelling until around week 34 with DS and DD. But for the last two days, at the end of the day, the tops of my feet are so puffy. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit nervous seeing as how the swelling last time was also accompanied by high blood pressure and again, at the end of my pregnancy when I was already on bed rest.
@UnwritteN12- haven't noticed any this time, but I did swell very early last time. I remember my OB saying "if this was at 30+ weeks, I wouldn't be concerned but this is a bit early. You might want to cut down on salt and start elevating your feet when you can" So I'm not sure when that was but clearly well before 30 weeks.. raising my feet under my desk while working did wonders.
Also, I had super low blood pressure the whole time and the two for me were not correlated. Hoping yours is a weird water balance and clears up for ya!
@AnnaS930 First of all, thank you for reading my insanely long post. My fingers were flying as I typed (I was so annoyed!) and I didn't realize until after I'd posted how long it had truly gotten! So props to you for hanging on through it all, haha! Second, your DH's Uncle sounds like a real treat. The "I brought the coupon, you pay the rest" stunt sounds exactly like something my coworker would do. What is up with people?

Mine also turned into a novel. When you got a story of annoyance to tell, it just comes flying out!
@AnnaS930 - Thanks, me too! I'm going to have to find something for under my desk at work and work extra hard on controlling the salt intake. As long as it doesn't get worse, I'll mention it on the 4th at my a/s. *fingers crossed*
@AnnaS930 and @JennM205 -- terrible! Dudes need to step it up. I would be so frustrated. I get frustrated with my MIL who is also really cheap about some things (like when we visited and I was in my first tri, she made leftover soups for us that we're hardly enough to go around and that I suspected had been in the fridge or freezer in suspicious containers for far too long), but she doesn't hold a candle to those guys! Sheesh.
And @UnwritteN12 -- I had terrible swelling last time in my third tri, but nothing this early. I hope it goes away with some elevation.
So, I'm pretty sure this pregnancy has given me an allergy to carrots - or maybe the pesticides? My mom has that one, so maybe it's just been triggered in me...either way, I used to eat carrot sticks all the time, but now when I do my mouth gets tingly and sort of burny...not painful, just unpleasant. Really hoping this disappears after September!
On the way back from the cafeteria to my office today TWO separate teenage boys jumped out of my way. Not a step to avoid running into me, but twisted feet, arms waving. One step away from fulling diving to the floor, wth. It's not like I came out of nowhere, but they apparently didn't see me (I'm hard to miss at this point)? Friday weirdness, lol
any other STM (or more) not as giddy/excited as they were with #1? I feel like #1 i was always reading about what was getting developed this week, what size the baby was, what to expect during this time. And this time i haven't picked up a book and only know the size because i sign into the bump online to get to the community pages...I'm excited about this pregnancies, i just don't feel as involved this time around. I know with my last one i was also skeptical (had 2 mc's prior so it took getting through the first tri to really get super excited)...idk, maybe once I know the gender and we start working on names i'll grow more attached or interested or i don't even know what the word is.
@erinmarie86 Yes. This is my 4th baby, and there definitely was a lot more giddy excitement with my first pregnancies than with any others. I think for me, a part of it is that I don't have as much time. I'm busier with the other kids so I don't have the time to read about it so much.
@erinmarie86- I'm crazy excited, but have not picked up any books or obsessed over what stage in development we're at like I did last time. Honestly, it's making the time go by a lot faster so I think I'll just keep on keeping on.
@Jabreen that sucks! I've heard of pregnancy allergies. My SIL developed an allergy to corn when pregnant with her girl and she would get terrible rashes whenever she ate it. Her doctor said it was normal and it did go away after she gave birth.
I've read different things online about it and in some pregnancy books. Some studies say it's indicative that the baby could be allergic to whatever is causing your allergies, others say that it could be because baby has a tendency to allergies but, the good thing is, most say there's no correlation and it's just a pregnancy thing. My niece is not allergic to corn but she does have maaany allergies.
@erinmarie86 - Same as @AnnaS930. I'm just as excited but I'm not reading all the books. Since I've done this before I feel waaaaay more calm than I did the first time around. And I guess it's excitement in a different way. The first time, it was special between DH and I. Now it's special between DH, DS and DD and I. DS and DD are constantly asking questions, wanting to "kiss the babies goodnight" and really want to be involved. It's just different this time.
Silly thing to be excited about, but I just got a great deal on a dress and I'm doing the happy dance!
I have a maternity dress by Leota that I love (the Perfect Wrap Mini with elbow length sleeves) that I paid full price ($158) for and just found one on sale in another color/pattern for $34 with free two day shipping! It wouldn't have been my first pick of prints, but I actually like it.
Hopefully they're not too hot come summer, since they're made of a polyester stretch fabric instead of the rayon/modal jersey knit I usually go for, but I don't think they will be. I'm going to be wearing my original one to DH's cousin's wedding in May.
What's even nicer is I can wear them after the babies are born, too, since it's an empire waist faux-wrap dress. They actually sell the same dress on their site as a non-maternity dress, so it's definitely versatile.
@Jabreen I had developed an allergy to lobster when I was pregnant with my first. It was terrible, but went away after my daughter was born thankfully.
@runningisrad I found the last movie TERRIBLY lacklustre. Booooring.
My elective scan was cancelled for this weekend, and I booked with another place for the soonest I could, which was April 16th. The other place called, and said they could put me in on April 9th. Should I stick with the 16th (which is with the place I've used each time before) or go with the earlier one? It's "only 7 days" but I feel like those days will drag on.

I wouldn't say I'm less excited for this baby, but it's definitely different. I'm not as in a rush to get things done, and it's not my every waking thought, like McKenna was when I was pregnant for her. Having a child already to care for keeps me too busy to be totally consumed with this pregnancy.
I forgot my random in my last post. Bought a new maternity bra today. I was sure my boobs haven't grown at all this time. Had to buy a DDD instead of my regular D cup. How can I still not be able to tell any difference? And it's not just me, DH doesn't notice any disconcernable differences either.

I'm trying to figure out what my own allergic reaction is from. For the last two weeks my legs have been speckled by little red itchy bumps. My doctor has me eliminating all kinds of stuff to see what it is. *sigh* I'm hoping it's just the fabric of the maternity leggings I had originally bought from Macy's (Motherhood brand). She had us switch to the clear All detergent, wants me to switch soaps, try stopping my prenatals for a few days. I don't feel too comfy stopping prenatals though... why would I break out only on my legs if it were the prenatals?? She told me no more strawberries either I love strawberries and they're in season right now, the smell of them is intoxicating! Apparently pregnancy can cause random allergies, because I've never been allergic to anything in my entire life!
I tried on the dress I plan on wearing for Easter (it is a lovely robin's egg blue, lace Calvin Klein, A-line dress) and it is SUPER tight in the chest. I zipped it up and threw on a cardigan and asked DH if he thought I could pull it off tomorrow and he said it looks super uncomfortable in my chest and very noticeably tight there. I was so happy that it still laid nicely on my bottom and stomach but the dang boobs! I also can't tell that they have grown much by looking at them but my spring jacket is tough to button so I have been seeing signs that I am growing.
I guess I should just be happy I had the sense to try the dress on before running late for Easter dinner. But this whole no bump but my clothes aren't fitting is kind of annoying.
