I went to the store for toilet paper and somehow came home with a 15$ carrot cake. I'm now nauseous from eating a piece and wishing I had spent that 15$ on something else
I bump mobile. And today every page I click pops up an add for Hershey's kisses at the bottom of the page. Damn you, The Bump! Because now I have to get some tomorrow when I get groceries because I suddenly can't live without some Hershey's kisses in my life.

Oh, I could go for some Hershey's kisses right now. But I'm trying to avoid too much candy or sugar. I'm taking the gestational diabetes test in two weeks and I really don't want to have it. I don't know if it's going to make any difference, but it can't hurt.
I have been less than pleased with DH for a number of reasons I won't go into, partly because some of them are Petty and I am trying to let them go...but he may be working his way back into my good graces in the fast track! He just brought me an Andes mint shake from Arby's. Mmmmmm.
@Sporty1216I am sorry your DH is annoying you but you just reminded me I still need to try the Andes mint shake!
Also, I just wanted to share that yesterday was my 1 year wedding anniversary. I am so happy that DH got me a Precious Moments figurine. I used to love Precious Moments as a child and he was actually listening to me ramble about it a few months ago and contemplating how I wish we could incorporate some of that into the baby's nursery with being gender neutral. All I have is a Precious Moments Bible and cross from my childhood but I just love them anyways (they were too expensive to start collecting them). Anyways, DH has really upped his game this year with Christmas, birthday and anniversary gifts. I am super impressed!
Married: 3/21/15 First time mom to a human but have been a puppy mamma for over 12 years
@blondie080300 good job mr. Blondie!! What a sweet gesture, as often as I tell my husband he isn't listening to me, sometimes he comes up with something like this that I've only mentioned once or twice in passing.

When I took my GD test with DD, I did the same, avoiding sugar before the test. Someone then told me it doesn't make a difference because you either have it or you don't. I did still fail it, but I don't blame you for trying. I hope you pass.
And I hope I pass mine this time when I have to take it.
My random AW - you guys, I have a THREE year old! I surprised her with balloons in bed and a Paw Patrol shirt to wear to school. Cake and more presents to follow tonight. It's the first year she understands her birthday and she was smiley all morning. Can't wait to celebrate with her tonight and with family this weekend. I will be eating Reese's eggs all day in her honor because her name is Reese and that's my excuse.

So did you have GD? Was it as horrible as I'm imagining? I failed the first test with my oldest, and had to take the longer one. I just barely passd that one.
I love birthdays. Usually we don't do anything huge, but I try to make my kids feel really special on their day. I can't wait for my Lizzie's 1st birthday in May!
@LeahKnits Yeah, I did have GD with my daughter. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't great either. The worst part for me was the finger pricking to check my sugar. I had to do that 4 times a day from 30 weeks until she was born, and I hated it. Counting the carbs was easy, although I had trouble not going over occasionally. They also do extra monitoring on the baby, but mine didn't effect DD at all. Well, she did end up jaundice the day after she was born and went under the bili lights for a couple of days, but I'm not entirely sure if that was related.
@PSUBecky23Happy birthday, Reese! Today is also my niece's second birthday!
I'm really looking forward to DD's birthday this year. It's not until September...and we'll probably have another little one by then (eek!)...but as you mentioned, this will be the first year she really understands her birthday. She is already asking if hers is "next" every time we're celebrating someone else's birthday! I need to start teaching her the months of the year or something...otherwise how do you explain that there's so much time that will pass before she is finally "next" for a birthday, haha!?
Had my 16 week appointment, all good... Strong steady heartbeat, 155bpm. Woop woop, emmett did really well and didn't get into too much trouble. Now the 4 week countdown to anatomy scan. Aaaaah!!!
@AnnaS930 Your next appt is the anatomy scan! That makes me so excited for you! I'm just one week behind you, and it so crazy how fast things are going this pregnancy.
I had my monthly appt yesterday, and I asked if we could push my next one back a week (making my anatomy scan the day before my next appt) but no Bueno! I was annoyed. Now, after my anatomy scan, I have to wait 3 whole weeks before my next one to find out how everything looked. Pfft.

@Themaritimemama That's crazy! I'd go nuts having to wait thay long to hear back about my a/s. The way my OB schedules them, the a/s is right before the 20 week appt, and she goes over everything then. Although, they've changed things a bit since DD was born because they had a new women's health wing built recently. For my dating u/s after the tech was done, she had me wait to see if the doctor that deals with reading the ultrasounds wanted to go over anything with me. Before I had to wait for him to relay anything to my OB, but, again, that only took 30 minutes to an hour.
@AnnaS930 Medication question for you... I've been taking Colace to prevent constipation and help keep things regular. When I first started taking it, I took 2-3 at a time to try to get things moving but then found that just taking 1 every night before bed was exactly what I needed. I did that for a few weeks, despite the bottle saying not to use for more than a week (or two, can't remember) without the direction of a doctor. Because of what the bottle said, four days ago, I started taking one every other night to see if it made a difference - and already I can tell the constipation is coming back! So, is it really that bad to just keep doing my one a night for the foreseeable future?
@JennM205 I spoke a nurse yesterday about that because my last bout of constipation led to a really bad hemorrhoid incident, and she recommended taking Colace once or twice a day for the rest of my pregnancy. I would like to hear @AnnaS930 's take on this, though. I haven't started the Colace yet because now that the constipation is gone, I now have diarrhea. There seems to be no happy medium for me.
@camichael84Hopefully the diarrhea is just an after effect of everything you were doing to treat the constipation and doesn't last long! Oddly enough, though, diarrhea can often be a symptom of constipation, too! (Basically your body gets to a point where it just has to get it out so it liquefies to make that happen.) I was doing GREAT on the one Colace a night and want that back - but only if it's not harmful or going to start other issues.
I am also fearing the GD testing this time around (such an appropriate acronym for it btw).
I failed the first test last time around and wasted an entire Saturday doing the 3 hour test. I showed up in the morning and by the afternoon I was so wiped out bc of all the sugar, I slept for the rest of the day. I will probably start a thread about it as we approach the date. When did you guys have it done last time?
@RedMar My OB does the 1 hr at 28 weeks. Then on to the 3 hr if you fail. I've already been tested once already this pregnancy just to varify the diabetes went away after I gave birth to DD. Since I passed, I get to wait until the usual 28 weeks to retest.
This may be a dumb question- but does absolutely everyone to the GD test? My doctor hasn't even mentioned it, and I'm at 15 weeks now. If everyone does that test, when are we supposed to? Super curious now!
Last time I was at the doc for the 12 week scan, the U/S took so long (little bean wouldn't cooperate and sit still in profile, instead was doing jumping jacks and looking straight at us) that we had to speed through the rest of the appointment because the office was closing. I didn't get to review any of my previous test results, talk about the scan and how it looked, or what to expect at the next appointment. I was disappointed by that, have to say. Not my doc's fault- she is always great and gives me a ton of time. Never making an appointment that late in the day again. We usually have to because of DH's job so he doesn't miss work, but you better believe the 20 week scan I'm making the appointment way earlier in the day!
Thanks @RedMar - good to know! I'm going to call the doctor's office before the next appointment to make sure I know what the heck I'm doing when I go in. I see people saying they fast before the test, and if I'm supposed to do that they haven't said boo about it.
@SarahMConnors to my knowledge, GD testing is pretty standard but it's not done until mid 20 weeks. It's likely that you're doctor doesn't want to overload you initially with all the testing that is done throughout pregnancy, so that is why you haven't been told about it yet. My OB thus far just let's me know at each appointment what needs to be done before the next appointment. So yesterday's appointment, we discussed quad screen and anatomy scan. My next appointment, we will likely discuss GD.
@SarahMConnors I've never heard of anyone not getting the GD test. Your doctor won't mention it until it's time, most likely. (My OB didn't say anything about it until the appointment before it took place.) They sent me home with the sugar liquid to drink an hour (I think) before the next appointment. I've heard of other offices having you come in, drink the liquid, wait an hour and then get your blood drawn. I think this usually happens at 28 weeks, so your doctor may not mention it until 24 weeks.
Here's a helpful site with a lot of info. It's not a test you want to "try to pass", because you definitely want to know if you're at risk for it (at least this is the way my OB put it). Although, I wouldn't eat a bunch of sugary cereal or waffles caked in syrup beforehand.
Hello All--I've posted on other boards but told myself I have to catch up before posting on this one. I made the commitment and finally read all of it. I kept starting, but have 2 kids so I'd only get so far before needing to stop. Then when I'd get back to it there's be 2-3 full days of posts! I can say it's a little slow at work so I just spent the last couple hours catching up.
I think everyone gets the GD. I did for both pregnancies. I don't remember getting much of a heads up, just here is a sugary orange drink that is SUPER sweet, work with the scheduling department and schedule the test. If you fail that one then you have to go back in for a longer test. I passed both so I don't know what the 2nd test entails.
My random is I walked into the kitchen at our office today and it smelled like Tzatziki sauce for gyros. Now I really want a gyro.

I've been watching my sugar intake- I have never been huge on sweet things, so I'm hoping I'll be AOK.
