Randoms Thread: March Edition!

Re: Randoms Thread: March Edition!

  • I found the "snarky" thread on a diff BMB and I have to say I didn't really find it that entertaining. I guess snark isn't really what I hang around the bump for and I prefer my drama to funnel through my Netflix stream than a discussion forum. I'll take our rainbows, puppies, glitter and hugs board over the pointless name calling, finger pointing any day.

Also, I can't remember which thread this was brought up on, and I'm sorry to be bringing it up again, but you know what I'm talking about.

On another note, I'm thinking of starting a daycare/childcare thread - is anyone else starting to look into childcare options or is it too early to discuss this?
@PoodleDoodleOoo We actually put the deposit down on our daycare last week.   Daycare here goes fast.   They had one opening in November when we'd be needing it but then wouldn't have another until June of next year!  So we grabbed it up quickly.

@PoodleDoodleOoo we've already put this baby on the waiting list for the daycare we used for our daughter. Never too early. I learned that when I got my daughter into daycare. I put her on two lists at the same time. She was 18 months old. The first daycare called within a month. The second called when she was 5. Seriously.

  • @runningisrad and @LakeR2014 - Holy crap! There are tons of daycare options where I live, and it always seems like new ones are cropping up, so I'm hoping they aren't super competitive for slots. I'll get the thread started right away - I have questions and want to hear others thoughts!
  • @JennM205 My dad would read to me every night when I was little. I always attributed it to my love of books. I try with DD, but she's just not into it yet. Every now and then she'll sit through "Goodnight Moon", but for now she'd rather look at the pictures, flip the pages, and not bother with the words. I'm hoping once she gets closer to 2, she will have the focus and interest.

  • @PoodleDoodleOoo same as others - we have Baby #2 on the list at the daycare that #1 attends now. Not sure how many others are on that list, we'll talk as it gets a bit closer. They do give preference to families already using the center, which I hated last time around but makes me do a happy dance now. Fingers crossed!!

  • So annoyed.

DH is sick with a respiratory/sinus infection and gave it to me (I think I also have an ear infection since I can't tilt my head without getting vertigo), so we both went to urgent care.

Got through triage and into a room to be seen and then they decided that they weren't willing to treat or even examine me (I begged them to just take a look at my ears if nothing else so I know if I've got an actual ear infection or just pressure) since I'm pregnant (after making me wait an hour and a half).

Told me to call my OB instead even though he may or may not be able to treat an upper respiratory/ear infection.  Called OB.  Closed for the weekend.

DH got antibiotics (which I looked up and are safe during pregnancy) and decongestants.  I got nothing and have to suffer since no one will treat a pregnant woman around here.

    I'm beyond pissed right now.

  • For the book lovers out there, I read the Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern over the holidays and really enjoyed it! Reviews online vary but it was a fun read - I gave a copy to SIL and she enjoyed it too. Give it a search and see if it interests you, part fantasy, part romance, whimsical. It's a good way to spend a lazy day/weekend :)
  • I thought The Night Circus was pretty good, too, @geminigirl16.

Not at all my normal type of book, but the imagery was great.  I love books that you can really see in your mind's eye and that's one.

  • @MojieJo I'm sorry, I hope you find some kind of relief. I would be so irate if that happened to me. But on a good note at least your husband got meds so he can start to feel better and take care of you.
  • @mamajen10414 Thank you!  I'm glad DH got his meds, especially since he's sicker than I am.  He tried to convince me to take his meds, bless him, but I told him no.  He needs them and I'm not going to take something that wasn't prescribed for me, anyway, even if it is safe.

I'm more upset that they kept me waiting so long before refusing to examine me than anything.  It would've been nice if they'd let me know a whole lot sooner instead of letting me set in limbo for so long. :rage:

  •  2 Randoms for me today:
1.We're telling a couple of our best friends tonight when we have them over for dinner. They already have a baby, and with this being our first I'm excited to have someone to talk to who has been through this!

    2. I'm leaving on Sunday for a work trip to Florida. I'm super excited for the sun and warmth, but I'm nervous to be living in a house with people I work with for an entire week -- one of them knows about me being pregnant, but not all of them, and I really don't want to tell them. I just feel like it's much easier to hide things at work than it will be to hide things when I'm living in the same house with these people! Keeping my fingers crossed that I have my own bathroom...
  • One of our friends we thought we were close with texted over Thanksgiving to say they were pregnant with a girl. Very exciting news! Kind of scanty on the details, but that's the dad for you. Our friend has always been that way. We figure it's probably around the 20 week mark since they announced to us with gender.
So fast forward, we're trying to plan DH's birthday dinner in a week and they aren't responding. Finally got them in the phone, and apparently she delivered her daughter over a week ago! I mean, I didn't expect them to call on the day of or anything, but they didn't even tell us the due date. I just feel sad and hurt that they didn't include us in any part of their pregnancy, given how good of friends I thought we were.

  • @MojieJo that's really disappointing, my OB says to refer to my pcp for anything non-pregnancy related during pregnancy... I would think a clinic could at least scope your ears. Sheesh.

  • @AnnaS930 I know, right?  AFAIK, my OB wants me to go to my GP for any non-baby-related issues (that was at least implied at my first visit and would make sense).

Since my previous GP retired suddenly (literally with no warning to her patients; it was a long-term family emergency from what I've heard), I've been going to urgent care because it's the same medical group and most of the same doctors, but apparently that's not going to work and neither is going to another doctor in my previous GP's group, since they made it clear today at quick care that they won't treat me since I'm pregnant and not being treated by one of their OB's, who can okay treatment.

This is literally one of the most ridiculous things I've heard.  I really hope I don't get sick again before these babies come because I don't know who in the heck I'm supposed to see about getting medication if quick care and my GP's medical group won't see me.

  • @MojieJo can you go to a different clinic/urgent care? I had a sinus infection right around the time of BFP. I went to a CVS minute clinic and had no problem with them prescribing me a pregnancy safe antibiotic.

  • I was so exhausted yesterday that I put my daughter to bed, climbed into bed at 8, and slept until 7. I mean, I got up to pee 5 times, and once when my girl had a nightmare ... But still. That's a lot of sleep.
I feel like I've been sleeping a ton too. Between the insanity of work, my daughter not sleeping through the night for the last 74 days and first tri, I'm exhausted.

  • Since I found out I'm pregnant, I've been sleeping on average about 9 hours a night. I'm certainly getting less done in the evenings but I find the extra sleep has been great for my sanity!

This is a first pregnancy for my husband and I so neither one is us realized how fatigued I'd be but lucky he's been super good with my laziness and amount of sleeping :)
  • I had to change my pic because my daughter somehow took a snap of her forehead and I can't find my original pic. Haha.

  • @Jabreen I'd be really hurt as well! We plan on keeping this a secret for another 2 weeks or so from our friends, but I couldn't imagine waiting until almost the 3rd tri to announce! If you feel obligated to give them a gift, maybe send a $10 Subway card, since that's pretty impersonal. Jk, sort of.
  • @geminigirl16  and the other sleepy mamas- every night I pass out on the couch early at like 9... DH says I cdnnot be woken up or nudged to get into bed. Ha! Just woke up from another glorious 12 hour slumber to birds chirping out my window. It's insane how much sleep I need! It's s first pregnancy for me so I'm so sorry to those with little ones waking you up! I can't imagine how frustrating that must be!!

  • @KarenBeth714 it was about 35 dollars. I got it on fetaldoppler.net
  • I've been in bed since 8:30 last night, but that's because my whole body hurts. Especially my head/face. This is the worst sinus congestion I've ever had in my life. Also it's beautiful outside and this day 6 of being stuck in my house. So depressing. That really sucks @MojieJo I would find a different clinic/GP for sure.

On a side gossipy note: any TTGP grads check out the March grads check-in? Somebody just got burned (deservedly). That girl is a big reason I did not want to join the August BMB. So annoying.

In terms of "getting your hopes up", I truly 100% don't care what the sex of our baby is. I'm happy either way, especially after a loss.
I do however, have strong feelings it's a girl so when I imagine the future I picture a little girl.
Now, I'm afraid I'm going to be disappointed if it's a boy just because I've been invisioning a girl even though I truly don't care.
    Does that make sense?
    This! Totally me as well.

@TheTamedShrew  Thanks for the heads up and BAAAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA.  Yea, she never got the point.  I'm glad to say I like every TTPG grad here on Sept 16.

Yesterday I had another u/s to double check there is just one LO in there, just one.  They started with a vaginal u/s but the angle wasn't very good and then was able to do an abdominal u/s and saw a great profile view of it wiggling around.

Tonight H and I are going to babysit our friend's 3-4 month old but from 11pm-2am......  She says he sleeps though the night and that we can sleep if we want.  I'm kind of bummed I won't be able to hold the little guy.  We go to bed before 10 so this will be interesting, I think I am going to have a can of pop for a little caffeine.  I started asking the normal babysitting questions and she just kept saying oh he will be sleeping the whole time  :|  ....

  • @TheTamedShrew @jhems776 I lurked. I felt bad :( Maybe it's my emotions getting the best of me but I would be so upset if something like that was said to one of our own.
  • @jhems776 we have had family come babysit the baby monitor and assure them that he hasn't woken during the night in about a year (he's 15 months). But we still give info, and tell them that of course if he does wake go get him and do whatever they think is best/call us.

  • Really struggling this afternoon ladies. I was (and still am) planning on visiting my grandparents to tell them tomorrow. Well I found out that my grandmother is in the hospital. She was diagnosed with early onset dementia in the summer and they are now saying it's Altimeters. She has already been in the hospital on two separate occasions this month and they are now keeping her until they find a home where she can go live/be taken care of. I know it is best for her, but it breaks my heart for my grandpa. He loves her so much and calls her his gem and just wants to take care of her. I don't know how I'm going to get through tomorrow without tears, but I want to tell them before she forgets who I am...

Sorry to be a debbie downer...
