@thescarletmom Yes, I kept it to myself for a few days to make sure I loved it before I mentioned it haha! If it is a girl she will be Elle Carol, after both of our mothers. Now, still stuck on a boy name!

I rediscovered the name Lawrence the other day and I kind of love Theodore Lawrence but isn't that the guy from little women?! I wonder how many people will make that connection and do I really care? It's not like it's a game of thrones reference or anything 😆 I also suggested Wallace to my partner last night and he actually liked it so I officially have like %100 more names in the running this time than last time. Now I just need to narrow down a middle name for each contender and see which grow on me. I really like Theodore Elm and Theodore Lawrence. I also really like Montgomery Torin and Theodore Montgomery, and Wallace basically goes with everything too, I don't hate Montgomery Wallace or Wallace Montgomery and who knows what other name I'll find in the next 20 weeks. It's a lot less hopeless than what I started out with at the beginning of my pregnancy at least but I hope something just settles in and I instinctively know that it's "the one" like I've found with my girl name.
@kalesix3 I think very few people would spot the Little Women connection, since most people know the character as Laurie. Heck, I literally work in a university English dept, and I wouldn't have spotted it.
I get it though- we were considering the name Emerson for my son, and one of the reasons we didn't choose it is because I don't like transcendental poetry lol. But probably 99% of the world wouldn't have cared, just me!
Anyone have any suggestions that someone who really likes “Cor-“ names (Corbin, Cordelia, Cora) might like? So far DH hasn’t liked any of the names I suggested, and these are the only names he has come up with that he likes. Other kids are Cecilia and Neil.
@peyts228 I love Emerson so much! I love poetry so I thought of the connection but in a really cool way!! My SO didn't like it last time but I love how timeless and classy it is with a beautiful meaning. I don't love that Wallace means welshman, I may cut it fromt he lost because I'm kind of a stikler for meanings. I think we always care the most and think of the bizarre connections and meanings, naming a whole human is hard! @pttomato at one point my SO liked Corvis, I don't know too many cor names either
We're still theoretically trying to pick (at least first) names before we find out the sex next Thursday at my anatomy scan. I was toying around with some first and middle name combinations and was starting to really like Ambrose Sylvan. Before I remembered our last name starts with S. Can't name our sweet baby ASS 🤦♀️
@ReadyForaB it's so irritating! I feel like S is one of the more dangerous last initials because I think ass is the only 3 letter curse word? Of course you could still end up with a doozy like CUM or something (M being my maiden last initial 😂) Man naming a baby is so hard haha.
Ha, the initials makes me think of a daycare family where all 3 kids have the same initials: BS 😆 I usually write initials in the front corner of our crafts so if there's wet glue/paint it doesn't need to be turned over to find their name which I could still do since they'd all go home with the same parent/family but I definitely switch to first name abbreviations for theirs
@potato3000 I worked in childcare for a long time in my late teens/early 20s and you reminded me that we did in fact have kids who had unforgettably unfortunate names and initials. Like BUM 😂 Even just BM isn't great haha. Gotta think about these names from all angles
@thescarletmom I am dying! 😂 Naming a human is so hard though, like every angle has to be closely scrutinized. I had a moment with my son where I was like MAYDAY our child's initials spell BAM is that bad 😭 my partner was like no bam is fine lol. S initials are so hard. 😭
In other news I finally told my husband the girl name I have my heart utterly set on and he loves it 😭 what a relief. I waited 20 weeks to bring it up because if he said no I was going to flip out lol, crisis averted. 🤦🏻♀️
We have been set on Kai but I brought up my original suggestion of malakai with Kai as the nickname again and my husband was more into it. Now we need to decide, Malakai or just Kai. Still no middle name.
@kalesix3 I know it's traditionally spelled malachi, how you spelled it, but to use the Kai nickname I think I'd want to spell it Malakai but I wonder if that's weird lmao. Maybe we will stick with just Kai
@hitcj4687 I've seen it spelled both ways but I've also heard Malachi pronounced "malakey" a lot so with your spelling I feel like it will always be said Malakai which I really like! I don't think it's weird at all, it really flows nice!
DS1s middle name is Bennett! I think it's a nice name with a classic feeling without being super popular! Not a ton of kids have it but it's also not an out-there kind of name. Plus I think Ben is a really cute name but am not a huge fan of Benajmin. William is also super classic so I think the vibes match there! William isn't a name I love personally for no particular reason, but I still think the name flows well, and the double consonant pattern in both ties them together without making them sound too same-y.
@thescarletmom@kalesix3 thank you! William is dh’s name so to avoid having a junior or his family calling our baby Willie or Wilbur like they annoyingly do to him.. I let him have his middle name. Lol
@thescarletmom Yeah same! He hates it but all of his cousins and uncles still call him that. I told him that I REFUSE to let them call my kid Willie. They would probably add jr too it and at that point I would lose my sh*t. Lol
@francesgs Oh I would lose my mind haha. I'm *not* a fan of calling someone by a name they hate, and I definitely wouldn't let somebody do it to my kid! My husband was the 4th generation middle name Robert and his dad tried to convince us to carry it on. DH said hell no 😂
@thescarletmom FIL was pushing using his name (he’s a second and DH has his name as a middle) as the middle name for DS. But his name is Leslie and DH hates his middle name, so that didn’t happen, lol.
@pttomato yeah, with DS2 (DS1 isn't biologically DHs) FIL reeeaally wanted us to carry on that firstborn son name tradition. He brought it up literally every time we saw them while I was pregnant. But DH absolutely hates it and no shade to anybody who likes it, but Robert is a fugly name 😂 my dad died about ~year before we got pregnant so we had an easy out by saying that if we're going to give the baby a family name, it would be my dad's before anything else (but didn't mention we don't want to use any family names whatsoever).
We have had all boys. We love our viking heritage and have embraced it with each son. My husband's name is James. Therefore for each sons middle name we went with Jameson. (James' son)
I have heard many a complaint or negative reaction to it and it limits the amount of amazing names we use. But I absolutely love it.
Each name we have chosen has been a sentimental or family name. We are very thoughtful in the naming process.
If we have a girl... I will have to really look at names as we have never had to. At this point I think we must only make boys. Haha although I feel I've had different symptoms this time, less heartburn (thank God), carrying higher, more blemishes, amongst other things. I spent $20 on candy for a road trip.... I never get candy. I'm a savory gal. There are soo many beautiful girls names listed above. I'll come here for ideas for sure. If it's a boy we have 5 first names picked and well... a Jameson he will be.
@jangojo I know someone who named all her girls with the same middle name because her first daughter has a different last name and she wanted all the girls to have a similarity since they can't share a last name. She has a Camilla Sky, Roseanna Sky and Poppy Sky. I think Jameson is really cute. There's a particular group of Amish that name all their children with their dad's first name initial in place of a middle name.
Despite our aversion to super popular names.... we've decided on Violet as our girls name! If baby turns out to be a boy tomorrow, I've got some work to do because my husband still isn't sold on Ambrose but I only fall more in love with it.
Any ideas for the middle name Kai? I don't love the standard, Joseph, michael, Thomas, etc. I'm having a very difficult time coming up with middle names for this child, but I really do like the first name Kai. I kind of thought Kai Malcolm, but not sure about it. It doesn't quite sound right. Kai Sebastián I thought, but that feels like a mouthful.
