The Baby Name Thread

Re: The Baby Name Thread

  • I have a German name that's very clearly spelled but nobody can pronounce it so my consensus is people are stupid and either spelling of Delaney will be beautiful!

@thescarletmom yeah it's just this weird subconscious thought in the back of my head like you, it's so weird. I had another dang dream last night so I'm officially feeling bonkers lol! I can't wait till January for you to have clarity at last and hopefully there's no mixup!
  • I feel like I lean towards everyone having a boy 😂 I almost never assume girls when I guess people's baby's gender. @thescarletmom I think I lean towards boy for you too 😂😂😂 @kalesix3 will you wait until birth to find out the gender? I think you said that but I can't remember for sure. You're so patient. I can't even imagine not knowing!!

As far as names go for the newbie, I really like malachi but my husband doesn't. I also like Simon, but he says it's too nerdy. His suggestion is Cyrus and I just think Billy Ray/Miley Cyrus.

  • @hitcj4687 lol I love that though! I feel like I mostly guess my friends right. I felt bad though because my one friend had two girls and reeeeeally wanted a boy, like desperately, and I thought from the getgo she was having another girl and yep sure enough, third girl, i felt so bad as if I manifested it or something.
Yes I really want to wait till birth, if everyone keeps it a secret at the ultrasounds and doesn't slip up I should be good 🤞🏻 it's less about patience though and more about the surprise, I really love just meeting them as they're born knowing almost nothing about them, it's just such a nice reward and surprise after going through labor. I do want to know though lol, just not enough to bypass the surprise element!
  • @kalesix3 I always wished I could be team green but I just can't lol. Even though basically everything I buy is really pretty gender neutral aside from a few outfits. June will be here before we know it honestly!
  • @hitcj I know exactly what you're saying, I realized this morning that I have 24 weeks left and that's if I go all the way to 40 weeks. It was kind of startling. The year is almost over 🤯

My wife and I had one of our first dates at an historic village where one of the female founders was named Mintoria. We joked that our first child (girl or boy) would be called Minty for short! Ha!

We’ve ruled that out (kind of…I hope…lol) and are leaning toward a more traditional girl name, which surprised me. We like Jane Elizabeth (we both share Elizabeth as a middle name). She also like Zoe (meh) or Juniper (yay!), but I wonder what the kid would feel like being named after a tree haha.
  • @monkey_mcfee juniper is popular enough right now that I don't think it will seem weird or outlandish. We like the name elm, I think tree and nature names are perfect. I've never heard of a grown up who was like ugh I hate my nature name. I know quite a few Junipers go by June or Juni too.
  • @monkey_mcfee Juniper is my absolute favorite girl name, that we won't ever use because our oldest's name starts with J and we won't reuse first initials. It is beautiful and I agree with @kalesix3 that it's uncommon, but not so much so that it's weird. Names have all kinds of different meanings and I think the vast majority of people don't think too hard about theirs! We are not religious at all and it turns out our kids names all have decently religious meanings so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  • I am trying to convince my husband that we should name this baby girl Aurelia. He didn’t love it at first but he seems to be coming around. (This is literally the first step in the process he’s followed when every other one of our kids has been named lol).

My questions are: can you pronounce that from reading it? And, which nickname: Ellie or Lia?
  • @cassafrass123 Oar-ee-lee-uh is how I would pronounce! I love ellie as a nickname

@cassafrass123 I would pronounce it kind of like aw-ray-lee-uh. I love that name but DH vetoed it.

  • @cassafrass123 it was on my list a while back so yes I know how to pronounce it right away and I really like Lia for a nickname! That's so sweet!
  • We're having a boy, and our favorite name is Justus Montgomery! A lot of people have been very outspoken about how much they hate it though, which hurt my feelings lol. So now I'm just stressed out over it even though I still love the name and will probably still go with it, but jeez. Who does that?!
  • Knottie, when I was pregnant with my first and we were picking names, we told my dad our top candidate girl name (Loreli) and boy name (Jasper). He promptly said to me "Jasper is a fat kid's name" 🙃 to be fair to him, he had just had a stroke about a month before and his mind was very different. But it still SUCKED to hear of course, for a ton of reasons. And when he was born, we gave him the fat kid's name anyways lol. It's your baby, you get to name them! Only person who's opinion matters on it outside of you and your partner is the kiddo, and they won't have any opinions for years to come.
  • @cassafrass123 I would have said Oar-ray-lee-uh  and I’m definitely doubting myself on that. 😂 I think she’d have a lot of people saying it slightly differently but not toooooo differently, and it’s very pretty.
  • Knottie my in laws straight up told us they hated our son's name and they refused to call him by his name. FIL still does two years later. Toxic people do that to answer your question.

@annemarie96 I love Kai! My SO vetoed it but I loved it!
  • Just found out we are having a girl and trying to think of a girl name that goes well with out sons name Elijah (we were thinking of the "ah" sound but wondering what others think. Maybe we are missing names.
  • @mamachang81 I love the name Amelia/Emilia and that’s the main one that comes to mind for me!
  • @mamachang81 my daughter is Delilah  that would go good with Elijah.
  • Clicked on one of the bump's suggested articles for today about things to consider with baby names since it happened to be on my mind already. Under the first consideration paragraph, the author of the article talks about why they did not end up naming their child DS1s name 😒 not cool lol
  • @thescarletmom I saw that!!! What gives!? It's a wonderful name
  • @hitcj4687 man I was so salty haha I sent a screenshot of the paragraph to my husband. My parent had some snarky shit to say about the name and I still used it, buck up 😂
  • @thescarletmom we see how wild they are with their comparisons of the baby to different objects, it's clear they don't know what they're talking about. It's a wonderful name! The bump knows nothing 😂
  • @hitcj4687 omg right, today baby is the size of a taco, I'm sorry what's the standardized size of a taco? 😂
  • Our baby girl will be Annabella Elizabeth and we will call her Bella.
  • @mrsjenc2022 I love that combo! Our little girl will have Elizabeth as a middle name as well. We’re thinking something traditional like Anne (Annie) or Jane (Janey) for the first. But we also like Irene. And my wife likes Zoe (pronounced Zoey), but I’m torn on that one.
  • We find out what we are having next Tuesday at our anatomy scan.  We are pretty set on a girl name but a boy is another story.  My husband brought up Sonny yesterday.  I like it.  But I don't know if it is is the one. DS 1 is Derek so I feel like it really doesn't "go".

  • @ReadyForaB ugh we were just having the name conversation again last night. Our anatomy scan is in 2.5 weeks and we want to have a boy and girl first name choosen by then but it's getting so hard. I also can't do a name that doesn't "go" with Jasper and Elliott (DS1 and 2) so some names that were on our list just don't feel right. If saying their names together in a sentence doesn't flow for me then I can't do it. DH admitted last night that he's very luke warm on the boys name that I love so much. Honestly hurt my feelings a bit (not that he was mean or anything just had gotten weirdly set on it in my head). Oh and he looked up our top two girls names and I guess they skyrocketed in popularity the last two years and now he doesn't like them 🙃
  • We still need a middle name for kai and it feels impossible.  I do like the sound of Reese and Kai. I feel like it works. But a middle name for such a short name is hard! And I do feel a little sad there's no nickname for Kai. But I still love the name so much and I didn't think I'd actually ever love any name lmao
  • @ReadyForaB I think we have our anatomy scans on the same day, mine is next Tuesday too!
I think Derek and Sonny are really cute together though!

@thescarletmom your DH is going to be the death of you with names! 🤦🏻‍♀️
There's still 20+ weeks for him to really fall in love with your boy name and honestly maybe he's the kind of person who won't really feel it until the baby is here and then the name will just feel right?
That said I haven't thought about Theodore in weeks so idk if I'm just preoccupied or I'm becoming lukewarm too 🤔 probably just preoccupied and my partner isn't talking about names at all this time, he apparently also forgot when I was even due yesterday and had to ask me 😂 I think since he hasn't gone to any appointments this time there's nothing to jog his memory.
  • @kalesix3 I think naming this baby is a very unique experience compared to DS1 and 2 for DH because 1. He didn't name DS1 haha and 2. I had basically laid out that I had a boy name and a girl name that I was set on when we first got married, and he liked them just fine so he didn't fight me on it. We had some back and forth on the middle name, but we had some tight parameters so honestly it wasn't a huge drawn out discussion because our list was like 4 names long. But THIS baby, we're starting completely from scratch and having to find where our styles match up. So it's made it harder. I think there's a good chance he'll come around to it if my feelings on it stay strong. We both tend to fluctuate so much on what we like and don't like. But we made big progress on our name list last night, so even though I feel bummed that he's not 100% on board with Ambrose, and he likes Violet a whole lot less for its popularity, it was still overall a good conversation! Baby steps haha. We'll get there.
  • We still have not come up with a boy name either! Lol my anatomy scan is next week with my mfm and I am so nervous. But after that I am going to definitely try a lot harder to come up with a name.

I can’t believe we’re all either halfway through or just about halfway through our pregnancies!
  • @hitcj4687 Kai is so cute but those short names are hard haha. I think what I find flows best are slightly longer, but not really long (like 5 letters), single syllable middle names. Not that I'm suggesting/not suggesting this name, but an example is like James. Not sure if that will help or not! But we had Ivy at the top of our girls list with DS2 and finding a middle name to go with it was tough! And I noticed all of our favorite middle names with it were 5 letters and fewer syllables (Vivian, Morgan, Violet).
  • @thescarletmom I agree on the skyrocketing names.  I would hate for my child to have a trendy name.

@kalesix3 yay!  How exciting.  I didn't do any genetic testing so I can not wait,  I just want to know everything is looking good and then this will feel so much more real.

  • @ReadyForaB DH's name is Zach, of which there are approximately 12 million in the world haha. So he feels very very strongly that anything top 100 is out of the running for a first name. And I don't disagree with him - our kids names are not common and it creeps me out real bad when I hear somebody else at the playground or grocery store say it to their kid. I'm always like "who is trying to lure my child away" just because we don't know other Jaspers or Elliotts so my immediate assumption is that they're talking to mine haha. I would hate being at the playground with two other Violets running around.
  • @thescarletmom I completely understand being hurt/offended because DH didn't like a name you were pretty much set on in your head because I had the same experience!! haha

We've since decided on another name that we both really like but I'm still in love with the other one and a little sad we're not using it
  • @potato3000 it's so hard! There was a part of me last night that was like, well sh*t now we have to have a girl because I'm not sure my stubborn ass would be able to like another boys name now haha. In my mind we were settled on the name and I often thought of it I'm reference to the baby the last few weeks. I made my own mess there
  • @francesgs I know! I was just looking at the weeks left on the app and I did a double take seeing "20 weeks and 6 days left". Holy crap this pregnancy is flying by.

@thescarletmom baby steps are so good though, and Ambrose is so stinking cute I really hope he warms up to it! This experience for us is different too, I don't think either of us ever really got each other's name style until this time when I had an epiphany and he finished my sentence about why it's so hard to find something we love, Lord help us if we keep having boys because we are rapidly running out of options we like or that go with our kiddos names already.
I suggested Montgomery Torin to him this morning and he said it was "really pleasing to say and flows extremely well" but that he's not %100 in love yet. Which is pretty darn good lol 😂
Violet is hard, I hear them saying it's popular but they also say Theodore is popular and I just don't see it, I know of three Theodore's and they're all completely different ages, ones 40, one is in highschool and the other is five, I think it's just a classic name but not necessarily trendy. I guess with school though it's harder because you don't necessarily know everyone in the classrooms your child goes to so you may not know 15 violets in real life but they're all in your child's grade. It's really so pretty though 🥺 if you love flower names for girls would you consider Dahlia? It's really not popular at all.

@ReadyForaB I can't wait for you to have that confirmation and to have everything start feeling way more real! Pregnancy zone really kicks in after the anatomy scan I find!
  • We had our girl name picked and it was going to be Maeve. Then we kept seeing that it's apparently the top girl name for 2022-2023 and I've never met a Maeve in my entire freaking life, so I try not to pay too much attention to that. My husband is Michael. That's literally the world's most common name. That's when you'll see like 5 in a class lol. I love Violet, and ambrose! Both are great names. I only know one child named Violet.
