Had my AS yesterday at 20 weeks Short version: It's a GIRL!
Long version: We have our follow-up with our OB this afternoon, so hopefully it's all good news. The u/s tech said she couldn't comment whether it was normal or not, but she just described what she was doing. But it seemed to go smoothly. I feel like if she noticed something odd she would've focused on it or called in a doc or something?? Will update after the appt today.
But otherwise, she was very active (I had chicken nuggets for lunch and apparently she loves chicken nuggets, just like mom). She started head up, at one point was head down, then flipped back up again. Once she had her legs stretched way out, and another she had them curled up to her chest and it almost looked like she was playing with her feet. The tech had to get creative to get some of the shots she needed. She also had her hands up to her face and looked to be sucking a thumb, and could see her little fists clenching and unclenching. And also got a pic with her mouth open. It was the sweetest thing. I'm in love. We had her put the sex pics in a little envelope and we went to get ice cream afterward and opened it. We're so excited!! Just want to hear from the OB today that everything was good. Stats she told me were HB at 165, weighed +/- 13 oz and was in the 56th percentile.
ETA: Yesterday after my u/s I got a voicemail and assumed it was work related so I didn't listen to it until today. It was from the OB's office saying that everything looked normal from the ultrasound! Should've listened to it yesterday!
@princessandthegator im sorry to hear your appt didn’t go that well. Hang in there though, and hopefully your appts next week will show better news. Keep us posted! Hugs!!
The short version is: It's a boy!!!!!! (DS1 is 4, DD is almost 3...so we are breaking the tie!) I was convinced it was a girl so I was really surprised. I am so happy though. And the kiddos are excited too. Only problem is we had a girl name but no boy name.....once we settle in from the move I think i can convince DH to talk more about it...he HATES choosing names....loves vetoing them....
The long version is: I am high risk for a number of reasons, so this was my first on many in-depth scans....and they found no warnings/markers/issues! I also measured only 2 days ahead which is the closest I've ever measured to my gestational age in 3 pregnancies. I feel really excited and optimistic about the rest of this pregnancy going smoothly.
The short version is: Still a wiggly little girl at 18w4d
The long version is: First, thanks to everybody for the quick input in the questions thread on the cervix measurement! We ended up not having to do it because my bladder was so full that there was enough room to see it without having to do the transvaginal u/s and they felt comfortable enough with the measurement results that they didn't think it was necessary. Took about an hour. We got some of the harder measurements right away and then had to take a break to go back for the spine and rest of heart ones because she wouldn't stop trying to grab toward her feet and move around. She's breech right now but they weren't concerned since it's early and because she is moving SO much. Doc came in at the end and only spent about two minutes with us - had no concerns and sent us on our way. They didn't say anything about dating, so I'll see what my OB says at the next appt in a few weeks. Also turns out I have anterior placenta which is why we haven't felt her (for the earlier question about this and blood type, I'm B+.)
I had my scan today at 19+6. The short and long version is everything looked good and baby was very cooperative. Baby is breech for now. We have our little "we're here for the sex" party on the 10th!
Short version: It’s a girl and everything looks good!
Long version: I got a call about an hour before the appointment and I thought something was wrong and they were going to cancel it on us, but it turned out that somebody noted I was having twins and the appointment was for only 1 baby so they wanted to confirm it was only 1 this time. They do mention that they do occasionally find a hidden baby, but still only 1 after the appointment. Everything measured well and they confirmed an anterior placenta, which I suspected because I’m still not feeling much movement. She wasn’t as active as my boys were, but I also had theirs done earlier in the day, right after breakfast, so that could be why (or maybe she just won’t be as active as they are). The tech got a video of her yawning, which I wish I could say is super cute but she kind of looks like Skeletor in it. The appointment was at the MFM’s office, so I got to see the doctor after. She offered additional testing and when we said no to the amnio (I’m AMA) she said she’d tell her daughter to do the same thing if she’d had a scan with results like ours. We also turned down the other testing because everything looked good and if it did come back positive the next step would be an amnio, so there really is no point. The doctor also confirmed that I do indeed have a hernia and said that it wasn’t anything to worry about, intestines were not poking out and no restrictions on lifting because of it. I’m a little sad that I will probably never see the doctor again - she’s awesome and we saw her a bunch with our twins, but MH said no more kids after this one.
I have to say I'm surprised to hear many of you ladies don't speak with a doctor the same day as the u/s. I just assumed that it was normal to have a doctor come in and review the pictures. I see a CNM but at the part of the hospital where the scans are done, there are doctors on staff to review the scans immediately and they give you the results whether there are concerns or not. When they found some concerning results with my last pregnancy though it was scary to hear, it was comforting to be able to sit down and talk to a doctor right away about it. My midwife then follows up as soon as she gets the results to answer any lingering questions if there are concerns.
All curled up in my pelvis wicked low, which I already knew from the tap dance I’ve been feeling on my cervix. Turns out it’s more of a punching bag situation than a tap dance. He’s head down. He has his father’s weird feet, which made H smile. DD1 has them too; they’ve got a huge gap between the big toe and the second one. H can pick up tennis balls with his feet and he’s very proud of himself *eyeroll*. Feeling way better after this scan and finally 100% excited about this pregnancy.
@princessandthegator I am sorry to hear that everything didn't show as hoped. I hope that you get answers soon and that everything is okay. Try your hardest not to stress.
Re: carrying on the last name I actually debated what to do with my maiden name because I was/am the last of my family line. I have my mother's maiden name since my dad wasn't around at birth. There are only 3 women left with our name (which includes my grandma and my grandpa's SIL). I debated taking my maiden as my middle, but decided to keep Rose. My grandpa called me Sammie Rose and I felt keeping that (Rose was his mom's name) was more important than his last name. I figure if we end up having another child I could always use my maiden as a first or middle name, it works well as a boy's first name. And I'm honoring my grandpa by using his first name as this baby's middle name.
@ummibtihaj- I originally has my AS scheduled so that my 20wk appointment followed the scan, allowing the doctor to review the scan with me at the appointment. The scan was supposed to be done in the doctor’s office, and if the appointments hadn’t been scheduled that way, I would have had to wait.
They ended up rescheduling the exam through the MFM office in the hospital, and so I had two different doctors review it with me same day.
My AS I had a Dr come in after and give the quick version of what they saw. Not 100% but I think I had a AMA u/s so the tech was able to say things like everything is looking good. Didn't hear about low placenta until Dr came in. I then had my 20 wk appointment scheduled for right after so if anything was found DH, midwife and I could talk in detail and see what options we had etc. Was nice to chat about the low placenta and DH got approval to be able to 'catch' baby if delivery goes well
My office requires you to book your AS back to back with a doctor visit. The tech was able to tell us that baby’s due date was accurate, but told us the doctor would look at the images and measurements and give us the final results. It was cool, he explained every part they looked at and what it meant/why they measure it!
My office also scheduled the doc visit right after the ultrasound. The only annoying part being I couriered the paperwork from One office to the other so I saw that they found a potential ovarian cyst and got to panic about that for the 15 minutes in between appointments. At least put the paperwork in an envelope right?
I saw the MFM doc after the u/s (which is in the MFM part of the hospital system.) He gives an update each time and then they send notes to my doc, and she'll call if she sees anything. There's no timing alignment between appts for us.
I saw my OB after my scan and she told me they don't get all of the info from the us tech's for a couple of days so she's going to call if anything comes up but not to worry
Short version: had my anatomy scan at 19+2. Have to repeat on June 15.
Long version: the baby was super active and they couldn’t see half the things they needed too, including sex. The tech said she would probably guess boy, but she did say that the cord was hanging around between the legs too. Everything measured well, just a few days off, doctor saw no issues.
Had my AS last week at 20w3d and I think everything went well but like some others here we didn't speak to a dr, just the tech.
Short version: still a girl! (We knew from NIPT) she kept her legs closed pretty tightly though.. so ladylike lol
Long version: Baby girl was in a ball the entire time and moved only a little towards the end. The 3D was crazy to see since she looks like such a little (very skinny) human yet was only 11oz. That was hard to wrap my head around. The tech talked the entire time to tell us what was going on which was nice and she was able to get all the pics she needed. It was somewhat distracting listening to her and feeling the wand press down on my full bladder so I was a bit bummed after that I didn't feel as excited and connected during the scan as I expected? But we ended up buying a dvd recording of the entire session and once we got home and were able to rewatch and listen to everything just DH and I I felt a lot better. One of the printouts she gave us was a skeletal picture of her face which was a tad terrifying but the 3D video of her moving and kicking up her foot made up for it in the cuteness dept
Re: last names.. I kept my maiden name and DH was 100% supportive. He said he would never expect to change his so why would he force me to change mine. I am the last of my name in my family and so there's that along with the identity piece in general. I was the first in my family to go to a 4yr university, and now grad school plus I work at a very prestigious agency where I've made a pretty good name for myself. I would be extremely reluctant to give that up just because I got married. IMO a marriage doesn't define a person, it should complement them so doing something as drastic as changing a name just because of that isn't very logical to me unless of course there are other reasons. I certainly don't judge anyone for taking their husband's name, it just wasn't for me.
At first my inlaws were not happy about it because they take huge pride in their family name but I think they understand now. DH and I had a lot of long conversations about what to do with LOs last name and we agreed to hyphenate as it's only fair and we will let the baby decide when she is older if she only wants to go by one name. In hispanic cultures this isn't unusual so my family was totally understanding. Who knows how FIL really feels about it though because he hardly ever expresses his feelings.
@jellybelly114 glad your scan went Well! When You said one picture was a bit creepy it reminded me of when the tech was looking at the babies lenses, definitely creeped me out!!! Their little eyes were definitely looking around
I finally talked to my Midwife on Friday and she told us everything was good. Same EDD, good size, and she knows the sex now which is weird since we don’t but that’s our choice! So I’m feeling relieved and excited!
RE: last names- I already have a hyphenated last name and my H’s last name is really similar sounding- they don’t go well together. I kept my last name because it’s awesome, H kept his, and we agreed kiddo will take mine because it’s just objectively better . H gets more pull on the first name though. I have veto power.
@jellybelly114 It's funny that you didn't like the face picture. Most people don't, but with DS I loved it. I actually asked for it specifically and called him our panda punisher. I thought it was creepy fabulous. I'm a little odd though.
Last time I had an anterior placenta and I'm AB+. Not sure this time as I've felt a few twitches, and I felt nothing with DS until 22-24w. But I also know what I'm feeling this time, which might be a factor. Our AS is 2w away.
I changed my name. But my H and I both had very Italian names, so I got to keep that. If he had been 'Jones' or something I would've been torn. Plus his is shorter and my maiden name was long!
I am so jealous of all your anatomy scans but love hearing about them at the same time. I just found out today that my scan is scheduled for June 20th, which makes me roughly 21 1/2 weeks. Seems like it is so far away!
Short version: Had mine this morning at 19+5. Little monster is a GIRL. It was impossible for us to remain team green. She had her legs completely spread open and was showing off.
Long version: Not much to add. Tech said everything looked good and she was still measuring exactly on track. She's 12 ounces right now and was very cooperative so they got all the pictures and measurements they needed.
Ladybug - April 2013 Dandelion - October 2018 Angel "Aurora" - July 2020 Angel "Sawyer" - May 2021 Angel "Maxine" - January 2022 Angel "Violet" - March 2022 Baby Dove due March 2023
Short Version: confirmed it’s a girl! Had mine today at 18+3.
Long Version: Everything is looking on track, she was very cooperative! We were at the MFM’s office so the tech talked us through everything and told us if a measurement was normal/not normal... thankfully all were normal! We go back in 6 weeks for an echo due to genetic heart defect that runs in my family, but so far she has a very strong, good looking heart and none of the bone deformations that would go with the genetic disorder... so I am very happy and relieved!
Sooo the ultrasound clinic that my OB uses would not schedule me for the anatomy scan any earlier than 20 weeks, not even 19+6. During my 20th week, the fella is traveling for work 4 of the 5 weekdays, and I'm going to have to leave a job early and we have to drive to the location that's twice as far just to squeeze in an appointment together on the one day he's home. Since this is my first kid, I just accepted that you had to wait until 20 weeks, but some of y'all got in early!
I'm already nervous that fella's flight will be delayed and he won't make it home in time, and I really don't want to go by myself.
Long: He cooperated well and the whole scan took maybe 15 minutes. DS’s took nearly an hour because he wouldn’t move how they needed him to. I’m going with that means LO will be less stubborn than big brother. Though he did kick the wand so hard he knocked it out of the tech’s hand at the beginning. He was totally folded in hand and kept kneeing himself in the forehead. And no posterior placenta this time, which I figured considering how much movement I’m feeling compared to DS.
UPDATE: I’m not sure where I posted originally, but I will update here. I had my MFM appointment today to take a closer look at baby’s kidneys because at my ultrasound they were dilated. They did a very detailed ultrasound of the entire baby. The kidneys are no longer dilated and there were no other abnormalities! The doctor says everything looks great and they do not have to see me again! I’m so relieved! I celebrated by buying baby girl clothes.
Edit to add: Baby girl was measuring 1lb 5oz, guess I’m having another big baby (ds was 9lb 2oz) A lot of her limbs were measuring ahead too.
@cdepperschmidt thanks for the update and wonderful news!! One of baby’s kidneys was measuring around 4 and we have another u/s scheduled at my 28 week visit to see if it’s resolved itself. Love hearing that yours did!
