@mrsbubbles-2 I had forgotten that Friends reference! Rainy Day reminds me of Nathan Fillion's weather man character Rainer Shine. I just think she would constantly get asked "is that your given name?" And the only IRL Rain I have ever met was definitely a major hippie.
I love Evelyn and Mila and Gwendolyn and I don't have an issue with boys names as girls names, although I seemingly hate all the ones DH likes. Mila was actually our frontrunner last time we discussed before we "tabled" names until tomorrow's reveal, so we will see if DH still likes it when he finds out we are having a girl. Evelyn would be my fave if it wasn't DH's paternal grandmother's name which would irritate his mom (eyeroll).
Haha that was me with the Friends reference. It's one of my favorite episodes in the whole series so as soon as I heard that name that's what I thought of.

Oh my bad, I was scrolling fast at work! I do remember/love the episode - Baby Ruth! - but had forgotten Rain.

Ok so I feel the snark coming on for one of my girl names:
Eleanor Cora Evelyn Raelynn
Middle name for a girl will be Joyce after my maternal grandmother. I have a Leo and and Ethan so I'm looking for something that fits when saying all 3 names.
Calimom, are you finding out the sex for certain? (I know they said 70% at your last U/S) I am assuming you didn't do the NIPT so will you find out at 20 weeks? I am always extra curious for those on here who have two (or two+) boys like me.

You have a good memory!! Haha yes I'm finding out for sure. I haven't done the NIPT yet (both times I've gone to the lab it's been insanely slammed and I haven't had time to wait) but they don't use the one where you can find out the sex so I still have to wait until my anatomy scan on 3/23. I'm counting down the days!!!! However I'm already like 90% certain if it's a boy I'm naming him Ezra so I don't even debate boy names haha.
On recycling middle names: not a fan. My brother's best friend growing up was Anthony Michael. His brother was Michael Vito. Their dad was Vito Anthony. To quote my (extremely sarcastic) mother: "Did their mother only know how to spell three names?"
And as for baby/cat sharing a name, it made me think of this:
Me: 28 DH: 29 Married: 6/2016 TTC #1: 12/2016 Benched due to deployment- Off the bench 8/8/17!
I actually looove boy names on girls and would rather people not assume gender/sex based on a name, but that’s just me. I do wish parents of boys wouldn’t shy away from names that sound more feminine, but I also don’t think that’s a reason for girls to only have traditionally feminine names. So I do love the name Evan (there was a girl who went to my hs and that was her name). I also really like the shared middle name. I have a friend and she and her three brothers and sisters all have the same middle name (“Cole”) because it was her mom’s maiden name, which I think is such a neat idea.
I love the name Mila and I love the name Gwendolyn!
We are naming our daughter Evan because like someone mentioned, we have a daughter named Blake and I feel so weird giving our second a really "girly" name. Thank you for all the opinions! It's nice to hear a mix of ideas! I think we will keep hunting for her own middle name with meaning but will stick with Ashlyn if nothing jumps out at us.
I love the idea of spelling Reese "Rhys". That's so cute @amac12999 would you consider Keith as a first name for a boy? I love that.
@scottishlass1213 I've always said I've wasted the best potential baby names on pets. That said, all I can think about is Sullah finding out about Indiana Jones being named after the dog in "The Last Crusade". heh
@scottishlass1213 My friends named their son Maxwell and called him Max while they had a living dog named Max. We all joked them about it but, the dog has since passed and I don't even think about it anymore.
I am really stuck on Eleanor or Amelia (MN Leigh) for a girl but H is pretty meh about both. He wants Jonathan "Jack" Lee for a boy, named for our grandfathers. I still really like Declan for a first name, but that's because I've had it as a frontrunner for both prior pregnancies and it stuck in my head. DD is Magdalena Jean.
I love Eleanor. I think partially it's because I watch the show The Royals and the princess' name is Eleanor and she goes by Len or Lenny and I think it's super cute and I LOVE her character so that helps.
@mrslittlemac I also love Amelia and I think Amelia Leigh is adorable.
I'll be the odd man out and say I really like Evan for a girl. I have always been a "tomboy" but I like traditionally male names for little girls, some of them anyway. Evan Rachel Wood pulls it off nicely.
I really like Evelyn, and would have considered it, but it happens to be the name of my father's evil stepmother, so no one in our family can use it.
Ramona is cute, and it opens up a world of literature in Beverly Cleary. Having a spunky young heroine that shares her name can be a great entry into books.
I like Mabel Jean, but I'm biased. If I have a daughter she'll be named Mary-Jean (middle name TBD) after both of my grandmothers. Mabel and Hazel aren't rhymy enough to be overly cutesy or annoying IMO. They are similar, but not too matchy.
Raelynn and Rainy Day I do not like. Sorry.
I've worked with the elderly since I was very young, and have always loved "antique" names. I'm thrilled that they are coming back!

@mrslittlemac I love Eleanor for a girl and I LOVE Declan for a boy. That has been a huge frontrunner for me if we ever had a boy, sadly my DH doesn't agree. I just think it's cute and I can also see it in a professional world.
Thank you @derbysquirrel I definitely think a "boy" name for a girl isn't for everyone but my DH and I personally love them. I like the name Evan Lyn, Lyn is my moms middle name, but I'm not sure if I think it sounds too much like we should have just named her Evelyn. Which I do love that as well, but I'm really set on Evan as her first name.
Mary-Jean is very cute, I love names that honor family members like that. This may be an UO but I also love the antique name Minnie. I don't think I would ever use it because nowadays everyone just thinks Minnie Mouse, but I do wish that it would make a comeback.
@amac12999 that totally makes sense! And so sweet to honor your brother like that!
FFFC: I hate the name Declan, and for literally no reason other than i just don't like the way it sounds. I know it is a perfectly legitimate male name, and i wouldn't judge anyone for using it, i just can't stand the sound of it. And I've never known a Declan IRL so I have no idea why I feel this way. I also hate Caleb for the same reason. I'm weird.
@juliebird6 yup. serious. With DS our #2 was Max and we fought daily Maxwell (me) vs. Maximus (DH) Once he mentioned the middle name I took Max off the table entirely
He's got some more bad ones if you guys want a chuckle, I'll ask for a refresher on all the names I've vetoed when I get home lol!
@mrsbubbles-2 I was a huge Ramona Quimby fan and love the name as well. Speaking of kids lit names- I always wanted to name my daughter Anastasia. My favorite book was Anastasia Krupnik by Lois Lowry. I grew up making lists like Anastasia and l always loved her name.
Fast forward to Twilight fan fiction/ porn writer ELJames creating Anastasia Steele from 50 shades of Gray. This may be a FFFC but that is just plain nasty and I'm not a fan. Flame away. I still love the name. And have considered it again for this new baby but the newest movie is being released do I'm seeing/hearing my favorite name be violated all over again. *Sigh*
@brzvice ooooh, I love Anastasia. And I don't think in a couple years anyone would remember the stupid 50 Shades of Gray. I think of the....is it Disney? the cartoon character Anastasia. It's a good association
I think I need to send DH here so you all can tell him that his names are terrible because he isn't listening to me.
Maximus Aurelius
I wish I was kidding
I mean I think that's a good name for a star or a plant or something. Maybe even a good ironic name for a very very tiny dog. But nope to naming a human that

Whew. I just got caught up on this thread. And wow. So many rules. lol. With all of mine. I’ve basically broken every rule here. Haha. Used a boyish name on a girl. Used a y in place of an I. Used my sisters (living) name on my DD. First three all have names that start with the same letter. This one won’t! Oops. Using an old lady name. Have used a super popular name.
DH's absolutely favorite girl name is Sasha, and I vetoed because I just can't not think of Sasha Grey the porn star. I'm not really sure what that says about me since it is also the name of a very recent and very awesome First Daughter and a lot of other people who are not porn stars, but my mind immediately goes to Grey.

@dirtanddiamonds now I want to know all of your kids’ nanes. Lol. I’m a hypocrite. I SAY I don’t like boy names on girls, but like both Parker and Cameron for a girl. I SAY I don’t like y in the place if I, but like Madelyn. Lol.
also, DH likes names like Cary for boys and we both like the name Casey for a boy. I know these were traditional boy names but have turned girl. Plus we’re strongly considering Reece as y’all know, which lots of girls have that name....
See i think there are plenty of female names that are not Uber feminine without taking over boy names. So many examples historically... Ashley, Evelyn, Lesley, Marion, carol... and so many more.
having 3 boys and really struggled to name 2 of them... yeah it’s annoying.
Obviously wveryone gets to name their own kid though.
More thoughts on rainy. What about a regular given name and having rain or rainy as a nickname. An obvious one would be Raina but stuff like Miranda would work too and I’ll bet there are others
@mrslittlemac I like Amelia, I like Eleanor but I feel like with the middle name it’s too much “Lee” sound repeating, especially with Amelia Leigh. That’s just me, though. I don’t like repetitive sounding names.
