Re: Weekly Randoms 8/20

  • I'm super grumpy today. My family is on a cruise that we were suppose to go on too but my doctor wouldn't let me go because of Zika. I promised to stay on the boat but she still said no. I'm grieving the food I'm not eating and that break from DD I'm not getting.

Also, DH is stupid and leaned on me with his forearms and put all his weight down. The spot he pushed on my uterus still hurts. Not super painful just uncomfortable. He's so caught up in defending his "accident" he doesn't seem to care that it hurts. I'm not concerned or anything just incredibly annoyed.

  • @SarahFoley725 hopefully it feels better quickly!! Always scary when someone leans on your belly! Hopefully your husband comes around and at least asks if you are okay!!

  • @sarafoley98 I'm sorry. He may just feel super guilty and not want to acknowledge that he hurt you. That doesn't make it okay. But men are weird. I hope you feel better. I love cold compresses for everything. That might give some temp relief
  • My dh bought me a Boston shake yesterday because I'm pregnant and said i wanted one.  He never does stuff like that! It was so yummy!!!

  • Its bad enough I had to come into work on a Sunday, but the AC is off and hot as hell outside. I've been here for about five minutes and I'm leaving as soon as I'm done bumping.

  • @SarahFoley725 sorry!  But I was totally craving a baked potato today too.

I hope you get your baked potato.
  • Anyone else find 3D ultrasounds kind of horrible? I spent about two hours googling pictures to make sure my daughters is normal because off all the weird lumps and bumps pictured even though the tech said it was fine!
  • I had my first prenatal massage yesterday (and with insurance it was only $10!).

I was amazing!!!! Definitely going to be getting one at least monthly.

  • @sugarcoateddonut wait insurance will cover prenatal massage?
  • @sugarcoateddonut wait insurance will cover prenatal massage?
My insurance covers all massage as long as it's with a registered massage therapist! They also cover chiropractic and acupuncture although I've never done either. :)

I'm in Canada but I'm not sure if that changes anything?

That changes everything. Y'all have so much better health care coverage than we do in the U.S.
  • @SunflowerMama428 Noooo! I'm so sorry, now I feel like a huge jerk :(.

I was always aware that we have universal health care and the US doesn't, but I always thought that meant your insurance was waaaay better than ours!
  • @SarahFoley725 yay for the potato!  That woman sounds like a bitter hag.
  • @SarahFoley725  That stinks about the cruise! I'm glad you got your baked potato at least. I'm digging Wendy's baked potatoes right now.

@ashhsa Yes 3D ultrasounds freak me out, not very cute IMO

My random today is that DD wants to watch Finding Dory  constantly, but I  find  it horribly depressing from a parent's perspective.  This couple has a child with a mental disability, very bad short term memory loss which  would be so sad on  its own.  Then they LOSE her as a very  small  child and spend the better part of their lives waiting in this very dismal area for her, and spending all day setting out shells hoping she might find them. She finally finds them as a full grown adult (Dory's voiced by Ellen, who's what, 55?), so Yay they  only had to spend like 2/3's of their life worried sick about their lost disabled child.

The only 3D/4D ultrasounds I've seen..the baby looked like a pig and freaked me out so I don't want one. :/

Don't be sorry! America can't get her shit together on healthcare. Example. The only insurance company available in my state says my OBGYN is in network but the only hospital she has privileges at is out of network......and there isn't an in network hospital within a 250 mile radius. My hospital is already 1h15m from my house. My husband has insurance thru his work (his company pays for his entire insurance package) and it is really good, but would cost $700/month to just add me. Our girls are $500/month on it. We can't afford to pay $1,700/month for insurance for three people.
  • At the beach with a friend and she dumped my laundry on the ground. I put it in the washer and didn't start it bc DH was out getting detergent and I guess she needed it so she just took my stuff out and THREW IT ON THE GROUND. I'm way more angry than I should be. Hormones? But, it doesn't take that much to just tell me she needs it and ask me to move my stuff.

And @Starynightsky24 I would be furious if a friend did that hormones or no!

  • @TattoosandLace I just can't even wrap my head around US healthcare, that is a CRAZY amount of money to spend on insurance, nevermknd all the loop holes those companies seem to find to not cover things

and yes in Canada we have 12-18 month maternity leave but it's not like it's people's full wage. In my province the mat leave pay caps out at $928 every two weeks once you earn a certain amount a year. Some people say it's 66% of your earnings, but for me it's less than 1/2. If you choose to take 18 months it's the same dollar amount of money spread out over 18 months instead of 12, so a lot less and not something we would ever be able to do unless we sold
our home and downsized, which in this market we would take a loss.

There are lots of down falls to healthcare in Canada; everything is triaged based on "need". People can wait 2+ years easily for joint replacement surgery or 12 months + for a non emergent MRI, just as examples. When you want a referral to a specialist you don't get to pick a doctor, it's just who your family dr send it out to. But I also would never have to declare bankruptcy due to major illness.

  • I've been having contractions I can't talk through for the past hour. It freaking is awful. I'm trying water now to stop them. Wtf.
  • @Aeml1985 I agree with the terms sides of Canadian healthcare. People always talk about the positives but there are many negatives as well. Like you said the wait list for certain surgeries are just crazy. My main beef is that there is almost no emphasis on preventative medicine. Because it is paid by tax dollars they are already cutting costs so if you go to the doctor without something being seriously won't they are reluctant to do tests. Many people don't go in until things are pretty bad and then it is simply too late (liver cancer for ex.).

And we definitely pay for it through taxes. Though the maternity leave is great.

@smorzandoj did you call your ob? I'd be calling for something like that if water doesn't stop them

  • I find it interesting how differently insurance is in Cananda vs. US.  I have loved how much insurance here in the US has covered preventative care recently--but I am afraid that could change if/when new healthcare passes.  Thanks for the mini-lesson Canadian ladies, although, I am still jealous of your maternity leave!

@smorzandoj I hope everything is ok!
  • Thanks ladies. Everything stopped after about 2 hours. I spoke with the ob and they said since it stopped just to relax and monitor. If it starts again to call and go to LD. I have my 16w appointment on Thursday and I'm sure we will talk more about it then. I've been having a lot of Braxton hicks but this was def not practice contractions...it was freaking painful.
  • @smorzandoj some L&D won't let you in until after 20 weeks and force you to go to the ER. I'm not sure if that's the case for you but my ob didn't know that when she sent me.

    Im glad it stopped though.
  • Double whammy tonight. MIL goes "what's Blakely going to learn in kindergarten if she already knows her numbers and colors and alphabet? She's going to be bored."
Me: that's a conversation DH and I have had a lot recently.
MIL: she's going to be bored. You don't need to work with her all the time. You spend too much time doing learning stuff with her if she can sing her alphabet and tell you what sounds letters make.

Wait .... now my kid is too smart?
  • @TattoosandLace they learn to read and write and do basic adding. Also one to one correlation. You'd be surprised how much they learn in K. Knowing numbers and letters is prek...times have changed!

@SunflowerMama428 thanks for the heads up. I'm not sure what the cut off is where I am. I haven't delivered at this hospital before but I can tell you that the last place I want to be is the ER in this city.  :|
  • @TattoosandLace I'd totally take that as a compliment! Your LO def won't be bored that's a ridiculous statement.

First, don't worry about her being bored in Kindergarten.  I've taught Kindergarten and no matter how smart a kid is, I can't think of one kid who was "bored".  Second, I think MIL's think of ways to be assholes to us.  You keep doing what you are doing!

I missed this last night when my app broke. I hope you're doing okay. Thinking of you. <3
  • @smorzandoj @AShoes10 @magnolia305

thanks, ladies. MIL loves to nitpick about DD1. From birth it's been "she's too little. She doesn't eat enough. You need to force feed her." She loves comparing her to our nephew who is ten months older. I'm pretty much over her in general.
I was reading before kindergarten and I turned out fine.
