  • @hp_momma: yup, I thought that sounded different this time also! Mine will be nonfasting. But def read the directions. I was warned by the nurse to have something like plain oatmeal that morning, no donuts, no oj, and to be careful about what I ate. But yeah, nonfasting. Def different than last time.

  • Ohhhh. Yea, they gave me mine at my 24 week appt. It's chilling in the fridge and I'm pretty sure I drink at home (otherwise why give to me?) then go to the appt. She said it's more tolerable cold.

Seems like we're in the minority but yep, that's exactly what mine had me do.
  • My OB also told me to not go to the lab until as close to 28wks as possible, apparently it's more accurate closer to 28wks? Works for me, I'll keep enjoying all the food!

  • Oh and yes, she said mine is non fasting, but keep it as low sugar/carb as possible as it can throw the results. I don't eat breakfast until after my appt's though, I normally stop at KK! Hopefully I still can after this one, haha.

  • I didn't think the glucola was nearly as bad as some people say. I mean its not good, but I was anticipating it to be way worse...

I did fail the 1 hour test last pregnancy and I had to do the 3 hour... drinking it 3 times was terrible.. 1 ehhh not so bad.

Heh not until 28 weeks for me either uhhhh hooah? Haha.

I did the one hour and then the 3 hour three times last round so I'm not too worried about the 1 hour this time.

  • I actually thought the glucola was delicious...haha. My doc gave me mine at my 24 weeks appt (Monday), and I'll drink it at home 45 minutes before my appointment, noting the time when I finish. They do the blood draw exactly one hour from the time I finished.

  • Random -
In HDBD, everyone's commenting about baby flipping around to different positions. I swear, this little lazy girl basically stays in the same place. I feel kicks and movements, but pretty predictably in the same places (although I do have an anterior placenta). But if I feel my ute, I'm pretty confident I can feel her back/butt always on the right side, up and down. This is consistent with her positioning at both of my u/s so far. Should I worry that she's not flipping more? I'm content with her staying head down, but the irrational side of me is saying "what if she's fusing to the side of my uterus or something?!"

I had grand plans of being productive when I got home today, but instead I've been sitting on the couch for 2 hours bumping and stress eating chocolates cause this morning was the pits.

@ShadeofGreen816 I feel movements in the same general locations, too. I think there may have been a slight shift a couple weeks ago, but it's been the same locations, just ever-so-slightly different than before, since then. So, I'm also curious if others find that their baby repositions more frequently?

I feel all of my movements in the same area too. Three weeks ago, baby was head down at the ultrasound. Yesterday he was breech and I wouldn't have been able to even tell you he flipped! I still feel the same movements in the same spot.

  • @nda_roxybabe: someone else can tell me if I'm wrong but the gist is: 1, blood draw at zero hour, 2, drink the orange drink (a specific amount of glucose in it), and you have to finish it in 5 minutes, 3, wait exactly 1 hour (they time it), 4, another blood draw. The lab results calculate exactly how efficient your body is at handling the sugar.
I believe thats what I did. I got the lime drink and I thought it tasted like a jacked up version of the mt dew. This was done at kaiser. This time through a private practice, they sent me home with the drink (lime again!) and told me to show up 30 mins before the blood draw so I can do my routine checkup while I was there. I'll be 27 weeks then.

As for movements, this LO is pretty active this time but he kicks a lot of the same area then I will occasionally feel out of breath as he does some kind of flip/adjustment. It doesn't happen often but its so uncomfortable.

  • @pshaortao Oh, interesting. I do sometimes feel a odd sensation that makes me squirm. Now that you've said that, it does feel like a flip or bigger adjustment, as opposed to the jabs I feel most of the time. I wish I could see what's going on in there.
  • @ShadeofGreen816 LOL, no, I think you're fine! I'm pretty sure I've got a mini contortionist or they're just not very comfy. Since going to the chiropractor and her telling me what was what and where I've tracked it closer and now can see the changes.

Right?! How do we get a GoPro in there? I can tell when baby is rolling/ flipping. It's more of a scraping movement.

I wish! My SIL actually sent it to me though because she did a double take thinking it was H and me (long blond hair with a dress, brunette short hair with a sweater....very H and I like).

  • I've already taken a 1-hour and 3-hour test this pregnancy. I passed both and have another 3-hour next week at 26 weeks. Make sure your glucola is chilled. Mine wasn't last time and it was so bad. I don't mind it cold.

  • @NotAPlaya-JustCrushAlot wait a sec, do you need to do it multiple times even if you pass?? I thought it was a one time thing!
  • @thistlenweeds, I believe it all depends on your history. I already did a 1 hour test at 8 weeks and passed and will do another 1 hour next week at 27w5d. With DS2 I failed the 1 hour at 8weeks did the 3 hour and passed, but then did the 3hr at 28 weeks and failed.

    11.2011 - DS1

    02.2013 - loss at 6 wks

    06.2014 - DS2

    10.2015 - loss at 12 wks

    03.2017 - DD

  • @thistlenweeds I had GD when I was pregnant with DD. I tested early this time around because sugar was making me feel like crap. I failed the 1-hr so I had to do a 3-hr. I passed, but I still have to test again at the "regular" time. I'm skipping straight to the 3-hr since I've never passed a 1-hr.

  • @WombThereItIs - Hahahaha! Omg yes!! I am not a fan of maternity photos either. It took me 30 minutes yesterday to explain to a photography that I wanted simply family pictures taken next month. She kept saying "but you're pregnant, let's do some cute maternity shots, so you should be the focus". Errrrrr. No.

@nda_roxybabe - it's awesome that your employer will do that for you! While
pregnant with DS I had to battle a parking garage in the middle of the Texas summer, and nothing makes you grumpier than having to start your day hiking into a place you'd rather not be in the first place!!

  • @thistlenweeds it does depend on your doc and your history. I was given the 1 hour at 16 weeks by surprise because I was overweight and since I wasn't expecting it so soon I ate a pastry and a latte beforehand and epically failed it so I had to do the 3 hour. I passed that then had to do the 3 hour again at 26-28 weeks according to the normal schedule. I had to take it a third time around 36 weeks because baby was measuring off the charts huge and my doc wanted to be super sure I didn't develop GD because babies there are different delivery guidelines for babies that are large due to GD.

The moral of the story here is don't eat a crazy starchy and sugary breakfast before your 1 hour.

I had the test at 6 weeks due to being right on the line with my last pregnancy. I'm assuming I will have to do the one hour again, but I just switched doctors so I will find out tomorrow. With DD I had to do the 3 hour like 3 times. It was awful and I totally threw up the drink which sucks because then the test stops. It's definitely mind over matter for me with that. I also had to stay in the lab the whole time.

@Kipperoo ok I may be freaking out for no reason at all, but within the past week my foot has developed an extremely itchy rash. I was just chalking it up to dry skin except it's seems to be getting worse. I turned to google last night and my foot looks like some of the exact pictures of people who have cholestasis in pregnancy. I know I could be totally wrong, and I have a doctors appointment tomorrow morning. But google has my slightly concerned. Any insight for me? Everything I read says induction at 37 weeks. Again I know Google isn't my doctor, I am going tomorrow! Just wondering if you could give me any heads up questions!
  • @bacorrea , YIKES! I'm glad you made an appointment with your doctor! The only way they can confirm it is cholestasis is with a blood test. They will check your liver enzymes and bile acids. The bile acid levels typically take a few days to come back. If it is cholestasis, the most recent recommendation is induction between 36-37 weeks. I was 37 weeks on the dot with 2.5 yo DS, but we have yet to set an induction date for this one but it will be the 36-37 week range and I will get steroid shots to help speed up her development. I'm going to hope we can do close to 37 weeks, just so she has a little longer to bake, but there are so many unknowns with why cholestasis can lead to still birth that I will likely just go with whatever date the doctors recommend. In the meantime, if it is cholestasis, they will likely put you on Actigall, which is a pill you take twice a day with food. No side effects, it just helps keep the bile acids in check until they are ready to induce you. Fingers crossed it's not cholestasis, but if it is, I'd just ask about the plan for the rest of the pregnancy and push to get on the Actigall ASAP and figure out a plan for the end of the pregnancy. It's really not a big deal if they catch it this early--the bile acids don't affect the babes this early.

  • Why am I feeling guilty for taking time off this afternoon? I am sitting here at work and I have already told my boss I am taking vacation this afternoon. I haven't been sleeping that well this week (I am 26 weeks and it is just now hitting me) and I just want to go get a mani/pedi and chill at home especially since I have a busy weekend planned (already taking a full day vacation tomorrow). All my work is caught up nothing urgent pending and yet I feel like I should still "push" through and just make it through the day, but I really don't want to. UGH. Ok, vent time over. Going back to work now (at least for the next 45 minutes) until I leave and go chill.
Hope everyone is having a good day!

I saw this video and couldn't help but think...this is what I look like trying to roll over in bed right now.

Ok, I guess I just have to link it cause it won't embed:

  • I'm beginning to believe my theory that the 3rd Trimester exhaustion/ crap sleep begins at 26 weeks. I was actually able to get decent sleep last night and felt energized for my first 45 min of work. Now I'm beat again. Sigh...

Anyone else had this issue: I'm pretty sure baby got in a position last night where it was squishing my stomach/ causing me a horrible stomachache. I know baby had been sideways and I felt them rolling around in the direction of going head down, though I think they wound up a bit diagonal. Anyways, after the big rolling around is when my stomach started hurting/ feeling squished.

  • @rosemarylaff Don't feel guilty! I think we all need to take some occasional "me" time.
  • @bacorrea FX it's nothing serious!
@rosemarylaff don't feel guilty at all!
@starphish18 I laughed out loud at that.  Definitely me too.
