@Shelby00519 I started my weekly appts last week and so far have had two where they have not checked me (bc they've not been concerned with any symptoms as impending labor symptoms). So there's no guarantee they will do it for you just bc you're down to the weekly appointment schedule. Honestly, I'd ask your DH how he feels about it. It take like two seconds and it's not as much of a "display" as a pap. They literally don't even look, they just feel around for a sec while talking to you. It's likely your husband won't see anything at all. maybe 1 min total of any awkwardness.

@Shelby00519 I plan on declining cervical checks until at least 38 weeks. I don't want to get my hopes up for nothing. It will probably be good practice for your husband though, as you will have several during labor.

I I have a lot of friends who had babies this year, which is awesome because 1) babies 2) hand me downs. Although I am kind of sad that I have SO MANY HAND ME DOWNS and I am a bit bummed that I won't be buying a bunch of cute new stuff that I LOVE. All the hand me downs are fine, but I really only LOVE a good 10 or so things.

I start my weekly appointments next week and I'm assuming she'll start checking my cervix then also (I don't know for sure I didn't ask). Hubby has been to almost every appointment with me and I'm super nervous about him coming next week. He's obviously seen everything but idk I hate getting Pap smears done and I know it's not the same thing but I keep thinking like it is and I would never want him there for that. I'm not going to tell him not to go and I know he'll see a lot worse during labor but still. Am I weird for feeling this way?
I agree, not weird at all. As PP have mentioned, you can't be certain they'll even do a check at every appointment. I would let your husband know it's a possibility though. My husband was at my 9 week appointment when they did one and from where his chair was, he couldn't see anything anyways. So it wasn't a big deal. Something about watching delivery and watching a cervical check/pap smear are a little different, so I get where your head is. But, I would not tell him not to come :)

@LDSJM123 I have been! My one pieces obviously don't fit and this is my last baby so I didn't want to spend $50 for a maternity suit. Mine is sporty so I feel like it covers me well, but the bump is all out there!

@Shelby00519 DH was at my initial appointment and they did a quick check to make sure my cervix was closed and long and then at an emergency appointment at 17 weeks when they had to check due to bleeding.  Both times he sat up behind my head so couldn't see anything.  Honestly, it was sort of weird at my first appointment just because he wasn't expecting it (I'm not really sure how he thought they did paps and stuff), but he barely blinked at 17 weeks.  Maybe just prep your husband for what will happen (and yourself) so he knows what to expect.  Also, both times my doctor asked us if we wanted DH to step out for a second while she checked, so that may be an easy option if you/he would just rather not have him in the room for that part.

@LDSJM123 - I haven't yet because I end up working on all the nice days, but I'm planning on it if I end up with a beach day before baby comes. I don't even own a one-piece or tankini. I'm more self conscious of the larger size of my thighs and boobs than I am about the bump (but those look the same whether I'm in a bikini or not). I vote to rock that bikini but be sure to wear sunscreen as your skin will likely be more sensitive.

@LDSJM123 I've been letting the bump go free. It's too hot. If you feel comfortable in would just wear the bikini!

@LDSJM123 I've been wearing bikinis, stretch marks and all lol. Although since mine are bright red and haven't changed in color since they came, I bought some waterproof Mac body foundation. It covers the redness but not the actual stretch marks. I got a couple of stares but I mean whatever. I'm pregnant. I'd rather sit comfortable on my floaty, giving my belly a tan rather than please people I don't know.

I'm still mourning all of my adorable bikini tops. I can't squeeze these new d's into my old b-bandeau's. Not unless the world wants a nip shot.

Question for STM+'s...do people still give savings bonds? These were really popular when DH and I were younger and we did get one for my niece when she was baptized 6 years ago. This year she is graduating from kindergarten and I was thinking of getting her another, but may just give her money to put into her savings account if it's not something that's really done anymore.

A girl in the work bathroom (shared between offices) took a look at my stomach and proudly announced with her flat stomach how she's due in December. It made me feel like such a preg veteran.

I would love to find a bikini top that fits. I either have to order them online or buy them at this great shop on the boardwalk in OCNJ. I have the problem where my boobs were too big to begin with. I'm so grateful for my bump right now since it sticks out further than my chest to take the focus off of that for once. I ended up finding a plus sized tankini top at Target that fits and it wasn't too expensive which made me happy. I've always been so self conscious about my chest that I'm just not comfortable in anything that shows a lot of cleavage in general. I wish I was more confident in that area.

I've been wearing my same bikini since the beginning. I'm pretty sure everyone at the YWCA thought I was just a New Year's Resolutioner swimming laps in January/February because I just looked like I'd eaten a few burritos that day, but I don't care. I didn't want to buy a new bathing suit and now that the belly is huge I'm airing it freely all over town (I live at the beach, that's not weird).

Had my 1st weekly check today.  My doctor did the Strep-B test and a cervical check, neither were a big deal or uncomfortable (to me) at all.  She told me that she will do cervical checks every week.  Baby is head down and my cervix is closed.

@Weville I had a really old stretched out bikini in the back of my closet that was still a little baggy during the second trimester. It's only recently started to be tight, and I definitely flashed my ass to the YWCA lifeguards a few times the past few months.

  • Options
@elenabrent That makes me feel a little better. The new suit is very boobalicious so I figure there's still a good chance I'm flashing my neighbours but at least this way I'm comfortable while I do it

@LDSJM123 Rock that bikini! I have a tankini but only because I throw out my swimsuits at the end of summer and buy a few new ones at the beginning of summer. I only got one this year and I want it to last all summer so I got a tankini, I would totally wear a bikini right now but I'm not sure how I'll feel after baby.

I just went in Sally's to get some headbands to keep my hair out of my face bc it's hot as balls today. As soon as I walked in the sales associate started talking to me about "ethnic" hair care products and escorted me to that section. She didn't even ask me what I was looking for and clearly assumed that's what I wanted bc I'm Black. I walked out and called back to the store to complain to the manager. I shall not return.

@Heathereaddy How obnoxious! Definitely report that ish to the manager, that's f'ing ridiculous!

@rakel88 my midwife doesn't typically do cervical checks unless it's deemed necessary by symptoms. I appreciate that.

@rakel88 I am not getting them either! I don't want to get my hopes up. My sister said she walked around for 3 weeks at 3cm dialated and thought every single day would be the day. That would be worse than not knowing to me!

Glad to hear I'm not the only one. I kinda wanna just go with the flow of the whole thing so I'm declining the growth ultrasound she offered me at 37 weeks as well as any checks until I arrive at the hospital. Then once there, I want them to do one but then none after that.

@LadyFleck as far as I know there's no real medical reason to decline them. At least not until after your water breaks. After that, anytime anything is inserted, be it fingers to check or otherwise, you're introducing bacteria to a now unprotected baby.
