@whataboutscience I love feeling the baby's movements! It's one of my favorite things about being pregnant.

I have a question about traveling during the third trimester. Let me start this off by saying that both my OB and MFM specialist have said it should be ok. We are going to Ocean City, NJ the third week of June which would put me at 35 weeks. It's about a two hour drive from our house. I called my insurance and found an in network hospital about 20 minutes away. I then called the hospital to ask them what kind of medical records they would need since I have GD and I had a shunt placed in 2013. The nurse on the maternity ward sounded horrified that I was traveling that late in my pregnancy. She asked me at least three separate times "Your doctor told you that it's ok to travel?" I then got a similar reaction from the receptionist at the MFM office ( she used to be a NICU nurse)
I'm not asking should I go or not, I'm just curious if anyone else has gone on vacation this late in the game and were there any complications? Thanks everyone!

@Mbondi0 I just got back from a trip to the mountains (6 hours from my house) at 35w. My midwife said it was okay but to take it easy, so I did. I didn't over do it physically, and we brought the carseat/diaper bag just in case. I felt fine (tired, but what else is new) and was careful to be extra in-tune to my physical needs. I lost my mucus plug yesterday but I don't know if that was related to the walking we did in Asheville or the baby dropping over the weekend.

@Mbondi0 FTM so I have not prior experience but I'm traveling 2.5 hours from home this weekend for my mom's wedding. I don't expect there to be any complications besides extremely sore feet and exhaustion as the day of the wedding progresses. I'll be about 35.5 weeks through the weekend.

I also have plans to stay overnight at 37.5 weeks, 2.5 hrs from home for a race my husband is doing. But we will see where I'm at when that time comes.

Im not going to restrict myself if I'm feeling fine and my doctor says it's okay.

@elenabrent, thanks! It's comforting to hear that someone else had traveled so recently with no problems. I will definitely make sure that we take the car seat and hospital bag just in case. I plan on taking it easy while we're there. I don't really like going in the ocean except to cool off, so I typically sit in my chair in the shade and do crossword puzzles. I'm glad to hear that it's feasible at this point and that your trip was a success.

I was supposed to go to NH at 34 weeks and chose against it bc there was no hospital with a maternity ward within 2 hours of the secluded place we were planning to stay. Obviously I'm still pregnant and probably could've gone but the stress wasn't worth it. Sounds like you've done your due diligence and research and shouldn't be worried. Have a fantastic time!

We travelled last weekend 3 hours, health care is different in Canada so I wasn't concerned at all my doctor did tell me to stop the car and get out and stretch/ move quite a bit on the drive which we did!  Everything was fine! I also did loose my mucous plug a few days ago, but again my doctor was not concerned at all, and at my exam yesterday my cervix is still closed just starting to thin out. I was 35 weeks when we travelled!

I'm in Nebraska and flew to South Carolina 3 weeks ago for a baby shower. It was fine. I'm flying back there next week to defend my dissertation at 35 weeks. My doctor said it was totally fine and gave me a copy of my medical records just in case. I'm not too concerned. Enjoy your vacation!!

I'm annoyed. My parents are in a weird marital limbo right now (and have been since January) and they are trying to figure things out before officially separating or patching things up. My dad's mom and sister have both been divorced multiple times, my parents have been together over 30 years, and despite the fact that their issues are not specifically one person's fault, my dad's mom and sister have already basically kicked my mom out of the family (passively, but still quite obviously). We rarely get the extended family together anymore other than holidays, but yesterday my aunt sent the whole family an email invite to a family cookout at her house (including my husband's parents!!!!) and my mom was the only person not on the email list. They aren't divorced yet, have not decided to divorce yet, and even if they had, she is mom or aunt to the majority of the people in this family so she can't be un-familied. I'm just irritated and think that was rude and don't know what to think about even going if people are going to act like this.

I am 35w and was an hour and a half from home this weekend. I am Canadian so it changes things from a hospital perspective but my doctor's reaction was have fun (and she knew I was going to a bachlorette party). Two hours away seems very reasonable

@Mbondi0 I think it really depends on your doctor. I'm having a routine (downright boring) pregnancy and was told not to venture more than an hour from my hospital past the 34 week mark. My doctor even cringed at my plans to travel an hour and a half to pick up my mother the week before the baby is due, even though I go through two major cities with hospitals in my network during that drive. As everyone else has said, they've traveled (prepared) and been fine, so don't think that travel is guaranteed to send you into labor. Some doctors just want you to think that! ;)

Thank you so much to everyone for their input! I'm a FTM so I'm already more than a little nervous. At this point we're going to go and make stops along the way as needed. I will be taking my medical records as well as the car seat and hospital bag. My husband has it in his head that if my water breaks in Ocean City he will have enough time to drive me home, lol. I informed him that will not be the plan.  The good news is I'm scheduled for a non stress test the day before we leave and if they notice anything out of the ordinary we will call off the trip. We are also going to Hershey Park this Saturday for my husband's work picnic. I can't really go on any rides, but there will be food and games. That's about an hour and thirty minute car ride so it will be a good test of my tolerance for a car trip.

@Mbondi0I've traveled around 36/37 weeks in previous pregnancies and all went just fine! I think the chances of you being just fine are greatly in your favor. And being only a couple hours from home, if you did go into labor you'd probably be able to get to your home hospital in time!

I traveled to the mountains last weekend about 3.5 hours away and I was 35 weeks. I wasn't even close to being as prepared as you guys were!! I didn't even think to bring the car seat or my labor bag.... My midwife said "have fun!!" So I wasn't worried at all. The car ride was kind of tough, we had to stop a lot so I could pee or stretch. We actually ended up breaking it up into hour-ish increments and fished along the way. It was a blast! I slept the whole way home though and felt hung over for about 2 days after. But still worth it. I hope you go and it is relaxing and uneventful!!

I had to go to the doctor this morning for a routine check up.  When it was time to pee in a cup, I missed and peed on my hand.
Way to go Samantha.  As if peeing on myself when I sneezed or threw up wasn't enough

Omg yes! The last two times I went to the Dr I basically peed on my hand! I can't see anything down there so I doubt any will go in the cup these next few times either.

@mbondi0 if it makes you feel any better, I live near Hershey park and my hospital is close by (not Hershey medical) and can PM you the name if you'd like it. They are wonderful!

@samantha1206 I actually put my name on the cup and then forgot to use it once! Embarrassing! I had to go back after my appt.

@backbypopulardemand That's awesome! Although so scary that she went through that.

The May BMB has an adorable "show me a baby.." Game/picture thread. If you haven't creeped it yet, go do it right now. So. Stinking. Adorable. And such a fun little game!

Went over to look and got distracted by their "things I said in labor" thread.  If you need a good laugh check that one out!

Speaking of pee cups, one time when I was pregnant with DS, one somehow did a flip out of my hand and fell in the toilet (at least it made it in the toilet, I guess)...  But I obviously lost the sample, then didn't have enough pee to make another one at the time.  I had to go downstairs in the hospital (where my OB office is) to Starbucks and get a drink, then go back.  :o

I start my weekly appointments next week and I'm assuming she'll start checking my cervix then also (I don't know for sure I didn't ask). Hubby has been to almost every appointment with me and I'm super nervous about him coming next week. He's obviously seen everything but idk I hate getting Pap smears done and I know it's not the same thing but I keep thinking like it is and I would never want him there for that. I'm not going to tell him not to go and I know he'll see a lot worse during labor but still. Am I weird for feeling this way?

This may be a weird question...but should I keep towels in my car/at work just in case my water breaks or i lose my mucus plug while not at home?   Would I care to clean up the mess? Or just say whoops and leave?!?!

Not weird, it's understandable, but maybe it'll be a good practice run for labor.
