January IUI

Re: January IUI

  • @arbasham my DH was also not ok with the idea of going to the place to give the sample. And unfortunately for us the only office hats opened on the weekend when I needed to do my iuis was over an hour away. We decided to get a hotel room like 10 min away the night before so that he could feel comfortable. Maybe this is something you just can do.
  • @Nina7236, you're absolutely right-- this sucks, hard.  I'm so sorry about your BFN.
Me- 39 (turning 40 in April), TTC for the first time ever (since Jan 2015), low ovarian reserve
Married 3/14/14 to my wonderful wife, but her sperm count is rather low
TTC with frozen donor sperm and science

    7 IUIs, 7 BFNs.
2 IVF attempts, both cancelled and converted to IUI, both BFNs.
Decided that my tired old ovaries are ready to retire.
Next step- reciprocal IVF, using my wife's eggs, my uterus!
fresh 5 day transfer (2 embryos) 4/17/17- BFP!
Identical twins "due" 1/2/17 (but anticipated arrival sometime December)

  • I don't think a hotel would work because I work until 12:15 am the night before. I mean I guess we could find one that rented by the hour. Haha! JK. That's gross. But that is a good suggestion @ultratomato.

  • We also live far enough from our clinic that my husband has to provide his "samples" there. It is definitely awkward for him!!! I will say that he has done it about 6 times now and it doesn't bug him too much anymore. They get him in and out pretty fast. I hope all goes well and that your husband becomes more comfortable as time goes on. OR BETTER YET I hope he doesn't have to become more confortable because you get a bfp!!!

I have been so busy at work and home that I haven't had time to get on!!!!!!! Today is CD13 for me. I had my follie scan and blood work yesterday. One dominant @ 25mm. A few smaller ones @ 13,14,15. No surge yet, so I triggered last night. I go tomorrow for the IUI. My apologies for the long post, but I wanted to make sure I got everyone

@tulips29 sorry to hear about your BFN. Good luck with the new RE!

@wendyp28 Enjoy this month off! Try to relax a little!

@Hammy87  Good luck next week! I hope everything goes smoothly!

@mrandmrssmit007 Yay! Happy first IUI! I hope you 2ww goes by quick! Some advice to keep busy and stay calm: Get a few good books, do around the house projects (I currently have no more closets to clean out and organize), do yoga. I also just got adult coloring books called "color me calm" and so far they seem to be doing just that. Good luck!

@starlight811 Today is the day, right?! Good luck! Fx for three big follies!

@MarlyHC I felt the exact same way last time for my first too. I tested compulsively waiting for the line to show up. I was so devastated when it never did. Fx that this is our round!

@arbasham my RE does bloodwork so much during my cycle I feel like a pincushion. I agree that you really need to advocate for yourself. They may be the experts, but you are the one paying for treatment. You shouldn't have to constantly worry during each round. Good luck on Monday!

    @drove2u @llc418 @PCOSat25@PCOSbaby@ultratomato @erica0901 I hope all went well with your IUIs!

@chefandwife620 Welcome! I know how you feel about the meds! The clomid made me feel like I was going through menopause with ridiculous hot flashes. The progesterone makes me feel pregnant which, to me, is just cruel. Read above for some ways I get through the tww. Fx for you!

@Lin&say We're on the same cycle! Fx for smooth sailing tomorrow and a quick 2ww!!

@chicandbubbly SAME! That progesterone and the internet make me crazy in the TWW! I'm trying to stay calmer this time around!

@Nina7236 Sorry to hear about your BFN :disappointed:

@tulips29 enjoy your break! I'll be moving to IVF after this round if it doesn't work (I have a maximum on my insurance that I don't want to continue to waste on IUI).

Just had my follie scan. 29, 19, and 17 (and a couple smaller ones at 13, 14). Triggered at the office and will have my IUI tomorrow. I asked her about blood work (because it seems like my office is the only one who doesn't do blood work to see if you're already surging)...she said I can have it done if I want but even if it shows I'm surging, they won't know exactly when I'll ovulate. My IUI is only 24 hrs from now but still worries me. She said I could go ahead and BD tonight just in case since the 29mm follie was so big, I would probably be ovulating on my own soon anyway. What would you guys do? Go ahead and BD and hope DH's sperm count is still good tomorrow? Sorry for the long winded post!

  • @lin&say Here is what I know about the little swimmers: They can live in the uterus for up to five days. But, if its been a while since BD, the sperm could be declining in number and quality. The longer they stay in the testicles, the worse off they are. My RE told me that we should go no more than 3 days without BD because they start to die. So, if you did BD in the last two or so days, I would hold off for a good sample tomorrow. Does that make sense? I had a hard time putting that into words. LOL. I hope it was helpful!

@lin&say I think it depends on if you have any MFI issues. For us, my RE told me not to BD the evening after the trigger (night before IUI). My office did not do bloodwork either.

@nursetmd85 Good luck! Thanks for your info on the sperm. It was crazy for me because I wasn't expecting that I would be ready for the iui so early. Normally we BD ED or EOD leading up to O but since I wasn't expecting anything to happen around CD 14 we hadn't started "our routine" lol I was kind of worried when I found out we were having the IUI the next day because it had been nearly four days since!! We ended up with amazing results in the sample so it worked out.

@Chefandwife620  I feel like my IUI was way "simpler" than most. I took Letrozole CD 3-7, then I went in for an ultrasound CD14 (I O later usually around CD18-20). I was surprised the the follies were ready. I triggered at the office (11 am ish that Friday) Then the next afternoon we went in for the IUI. No meds or anything since. I am to take a HPT on 14dpiui (I may do it tomorrow at 13dpiui). That is it!

@arbashamHope it goes well for you this weekend! My husband had to give his sample in our RE office/lab too. It is definitely embarrassing or awkward for them, but the first SA we had he did the sample at home and I think it could have messed up the results. It is definitely better to do it right where you need it and then they rush it off to the next step!

I am testing tomorrow... EEK. I am about to kill my DH. He keeps begging me to test and chanting "test, test test." LOL. Thankfully I am able to stay strong...not sure how I haven't already POAS hahah.

@Chefandwife620 I seemed to have missed your post about everyone's "routine". This is my second IUI and both cycles for me have been identical. I go in on CD3 for baseline labs and ultrasound. If all is well (which it has been) I take clomid 50mg daily from CD5-CD9. I go back in on CD12 for blood work to make sure I didn't surge and for an ultrasound to check on the follies. Both times I have been ready to trigger (1st round - 3 mature follies with the biggest @ 19mm; This time with the biggest at 25mm and a few smaller 15mm ones). I inject myself the evening of CD12. My RE gives me a window between 6pm-12am. The first time I did it at 6:30pm, last night I did it around 8pm. Like last round, I'll go in the morning of CD14 for IUI. I'll start vaginal progesterone 200mg twice daily starting the day after IUI and continue until I get AF or a positive test, in which case they will continue me through the first trimester. My beta is scheduled somewhere around 15DPIUI.

@chicandbubbly Shame on your DH!!! LOL! Such a bad influence! Fx for a BFP!!!!!!!!!!

  • Update: Had my first IUI this morning and all went well. DH gave specimen at the clinic earlier this Morning and RE says had great numbers. They were running a little behind there was someone with complications before me they needed to dialate her and that was exactly my fear since I had an awful experience with my HSG test. Luckily the procedure was very easy, slight discomfort with the speculum but it was very fast. They had my lay down for 10 minutes before I left and reccomend to BD until 2 weeks when I take my BETA text. Goodluck to everyone!!

@emgem819 each day that goes by, the more I read, only a few people have gotten a BFP from an IUI.  I cannot afford IVF at this time either so I'm stuck with this.  I feel inadequate as a woman that I can't just get pregnant like normal women.  There are about 10 pregnant women at work and they are all anyone talks about.  I want to throw up every time I see them.  I can't understand why my RE seems so hopeful with my treatment when I just don't think it will work.  I don't even know if it is worth wasting so much time and money if it's probably not going to work and just wait and save for IVF.  It's so frustrating and depressing.  I lost my Dad 4 months ago and he never got to be a grandpa.  My Mom gets depressed because she is 60 and is still not a grandma.  I feel like I'm letting every one down.  Thank you however, for your kind words and support.  I'm sorry that you are having to go through this pain as well.

  • @arbasham I feel exactly the same! My parents are beyond ready to be grandparents so each cycle that goes by without a BFP it just is such a let down. We are paying oop for injects which I need and so each month that's $300-400 which is hurting us financially and frustrating. It just feels like it is such a slower process and my re keeps reminding me that it takes normal couples months also but it still feels so disappointing to get your hopes up and then see that bfn each month. I'm so sorry to hear about your fathers passing. I hope that you can stay hopeful and that that will pay off soon with a BFP. Fx for you! Sending hugs.

@emgem819 and @arbasham I am right there with you concerning my confidence with IUI. I am able to really talk myself up during a cycle and stay positive but that just makes the BFN more disappointing and I go back to "why am I even doing IUIs. 15-20% success rate is BS." I want so badly to move onto IVF but I have been avoiding even asking my clinic for costs. I feel like getting a real number would just make it devestatingly out of reach.

For us it may kind of be an either or. We can continue with IUI and at least have some kind of shot. OR we can take a long break and save for IVF. Our IUIs + medications are costing us a little over $1000 each month so if we stop paying that we may be able to save for IVF in a year or so...

Have either of you looked into financing options?
  • @mrandmrssmith007 i am only 2dpiui but having lower back pain and same twinges. Its very painful when I walk up and down the stairs I may take something for it. My twinges though were there before my iui but after hcg shot so it could be body responding to that still.

  • Well af has not arrived yet, but thinking it is only a matter of time. :( Spotted a tiny bit this morning. I tested yesterday (day after af due) and it was bfn. I had so many symptoms this cycle- headache, sore boobs, cramping, twinges, lots of cm...Which makes it a lot harder to take If af arrives. Hope they are positive signs for you ladies still in the tww. :)

  • @PCOSat25 the clinic I go to uses a couple of different organizations that specialize in fertility financing.  I think whatever clinic you go to has to be a part of their network or something, idk.  One is at https://www.arcfertility.com/ and the other is at https://capexmd.com/.  Here are some companies that help with medications as well that my clinic recommends:  Compassionate Care, First Steps, and IVF Greenlight.  My clinic also offers a money back guarantee program.  It is $17,900 plus the cost of medications for 3 IVFs and 3 frozen transfer cycles.  If you do ICSI it is about 1,000 more total.  Its also more if you are between the age of 35 and 38 (you don't qualify for the program if you are over 38).  There are a few other things you have to have to qualify too (weight 200 lbs and under or a BMI of <28 if over 200 lbs, AMH>1.2, no more than 2 previous pregnancy losses or 2 failed IVF cycles and adequate sperm) .  Anyway, you get 70% back if you don't end up with a live birth.  I feel like this is a pretty good deal, its just coming up with 18,000 plus meds (which I believe are covered by my insurance) all at once!

  • I'm sorry @MarlyHC. When will you have your beta?

Ugh negative poas tests are so rough. I have a difficult time with them as they are such a disappointment but I don't feel closure on the cycle until I get beta results. It's like a crappy limbo you have to get through before moving onto the next cycle. Sending you hugs!
  • I am doing my first round of injectables but not triggers...the last few months, they triggered in the office...this time since I got all meds/shots sent to home...they gave me ovidrel for trigger and pregnyl to basically boost progesterone if i get a bfp....

  • oops...i took a break from the site for  a while and made a mistake I thought I was replying to someones post who asked about pregnyl

  • 1st IUI January 20th---Clomid for 4 months...this month first with injectables-clomid 100-goal f-75 -ovidrel for trigger-pregynl for later...appt this tuesday for ultrasound check ....feeling all kinds of cramps-small pains...definitely bloated....
  • @pcosat25 they told me if I get a BFN to just wait for AF and if positive they'd do a beta. AF due in a couple of days.
