CPW: Career/job field

Lots of job type stuff seems to be going around so now you've all got me curious... (plus I'm job hunting and looking at all the other interesting things that pop up that people do and wondering if I might like to try something different...)

Re: CPW: Career/job field

  • Yes! I do right now. Both my B.A. and M.A. in film and screenwriting, and I work critiquing and editing scripts. Other than the three years I spent in event planning/hospitality, I've always worked in this field, I have worked assisting others who do this, planning screenwriting events, and teaching screenwriting.

And of course the life plan is to sell my own script...but that's about as likely as winning the lottery so I'm glad I have this career for now.

  • I started out Pre-Med and was headed to med school until my parents sat me down one day and talked me out of it. They said I would be in too much debt after med school, the hours would be crazy, and that it would be difficult for me to see sick children day in and day out.

They suggested teaching since I would still be working with kids, but not always seeing them sick.

I said I would do the teaching thing for a year and if I didn't like it, I would go to med school. Ten years later and I'm still at it. However, I do still think I'll pursue the medical profession again in the future.

  • Studied elementary ed, work (and love) project management for a commercial general contractor.  I tried teaching but couldn't deal with it!  Props to the teachers out there who do it every day!  Seems like opposite ends of the spectrum unless you count the immature people I deal with daily!

  • I do now.  My undergrad degree is in education and I did that part time for a short time while working in non-profits for my full-time job.  I went back (13 years later) and got a Master of Public Administration degree that fits what I have been doing all along.

  • I work as a new order sales scheduler for a goverment contractor who does equipment for radio stuff... ( I know my job so well)

I went to school for computer science.

  • I got my B.S. in Criminal Justice but ended up in the non-profit field. It's not what I had in mind but I needed a full-time position right after school ended. I was already working for the program part-time while I was a student so when a full-time position with benefits came up I went for it. I'm still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. Big Smile
