Is there such a thing called flu shot for pregnant women, like a special kind of flu shot? I think I just got the regular flu shot with my last pregnancy but my friend told me I should be getting this special kind. Anyone knows?

Not that I've ever heard of, as far as I know it's the same shot. The only thing I can think of is that it's recommended for pregnant women to get the shot and not the nasal spray, maybe that's what your friend meant?

I'm pretty sure it's just the regular shot. We're just not supposed to get the nasal form.
My midwife said they get special vials of the flu shot without the preservatives for pregnant women. It's one of the things that made me decide to get the shot this year.
hmm i don't know how to word this. Yesterday I felt like had the hiccups but I didn't have hiccups: It definitely wasn't gas but I kept having this odd sensation inside that's odd to explain and had kind of hiccupy cadence. Does that make any sense? Is it possible that it was baby or that baby had the hiccups?

The flu shot you're talking about isn't preservative free but it does have less mercury in it than the regular flu shot. Hope that helps.

Where did you feel the "hiccups"? Was it faint? Localized to one area? Definitely could be.

It does feel localized. Kind of like behind my belly button area.
@soxfan9968 I think that could be the baby having the hiccups. My 4th used to constantly get them and it was the funniest thing ever to me. It is a feeling that is kind of hard to explain though.

Sounds like the baby's hiccups to me. Such a weird feeling when they're so little. Just wait until your whole belly bounces.

Hello! I went to see my doctor at 17 weeks. Would have seen him at 16 but they had no available appointments! Anyways when he scanned for the babies heartbeat he looked on my tummy and nothing but we looked at my lower abdomen right about my private areas! The baby is still low! And when I went to a specialist to get my ultrasound done she said it might be because of how low I wear my pants and because of how tight I am wearing my belt. Well since being pregnant I've lost 20lbs and my clothes are huge on my so I wear a tight belt (not painful just right) to keep my pants to stay up! I don't want to do the rubberband trick on my pants because it's uncomfortable for me. I was thinking about getting a belly band instead of maternity pants because then I'd have to buy khakis for work and regular jeans. Does the belly band help?? Do they keep your pants up? I'm bending at work all day (I work retail) and my pants are always falling (no one likes crack). Help!! What brand is good??

@Mcbb224 I purchased a belly band from Once Upon a Child when I was around 8 weeks. I wear it with my work pants every day! If you don't like it sitting over the top of your pants, tuck it halfway in to your pants and roll the other half over the top. It's very comfortable that way, and way better than a belt.
@Mcbb224 I bought a belly band from Target last night for $16. So far I've only wore it for a few minutes around the house to test it out, but I think I will really like it!
Treadmill is safe as long as you are careful and I would just Fido what you are used to. Stomach sleeping I am pretty sure is not recommended after 18-20 weeks. Maybe side belly sleep?

I'm really thinking about spending the money and buying a snoggle pillow.
Pros/Cons?

I have a Snoogle. I bought it from a friend and washed it but I personally think it's worth paying full price for. I sleep so much better than I was without it.
@Mcbb224 I bought a belly band from target a few weeks ago and absolutely love it! I'm able to wear my pre-maternity skinny jeans (can't find any skinny maternity jeans that I love yet) since they still fit everywhere but the waist and nobody can tell that my pants aren't buttoned and they stay up really nice. You can either fold the band over the top or wear it over your belly, both are comfortable. I highly suggest getting one!

@SarahFoley725 I've only heard awesome things from ladies on here and on Facebook about the Snoggle plus it has amazing reviews. I definitely think I'm going to get one to help improve my sleep!

1. Is it safe to use a treadmill while pregnant?? I've been fast-walking 2 miles every morning, but now my sister has me freaked out about falling...
2. Can I still sleep on my stomach if its comfortable?
I agree, it's safe as long as you're careful and using common sense. If you think you're going fast enough to fall, slow down. Healthiest for the baby to keep exercising, in my opinion.
Side sleeping is supposed to be ideal for pregnancy, but my doctor told me to sleep however I was comfortable and that my body would let me know if it wasn't okay. I asked with my first because I kept ending up on my back during the end of my first pregnancy
I have a question that is probably a littke out of place. My husband and I are both the oldest, our next in age siblings are 22 but they're both idiots.
Anyway has anyone been in a position to find "God Parents" or guardians for their kids that weren't family members? Our closest friends I don't feel like would be the greatest parents. I just feel like we need to have someone for our kids if we were both to pass away at the same time. We have a few people I've thought of, but I keep finding a reason why they wouldn't be perfect. I mean, we won't be perfect but they didn't get to pick us haha

The guardians you choose can change as you update your will to meet your current needs. Narrowing down your time line of "what ifs" to things that would or could happen in the next year or 2 might be easier.
Keep in mind that each of you will choose each other as the first choice as legal guardian - it is only if the spouse predeceased you that your second choice comes into play. Unless you are in the bizarre situation of wanting your spouse to have to potentially co-parent with your chosen guardian. (Not very bizarre in the case of divorced parents obviously.)
We are stuck as well. Right now it is looking like friends, as there are complications with family. Ugh.
@SarahFoley725 god parents are people you want as spiritual role models for your child. Someone who can guide your child within the way of the church. Your parents or in laws would most likely get custody of your children should anything happen to you and your spouse, unless otherwise stated in a will. With that being said, we too have idiot siblings. My one sister out right says she's an athiest so she was out of the question. We picked my brother, other sister, and he picked his brother and sister for our twins. We were guilted into picking his idiot sister who really can't see past her own nose and I really wish I would've stood my ground because she proven to be the worst godparent as I imagined. He has one brother left, who's a frat brother at college and can't pronounce the word Haiti, and doesn't know our nations capitol. He also makes absolutely no effort to see his niece and nephew. Needless to say mil will be furious if we don't pick him since he will be the only sibling of DH to choose from but it's not happening. Sorry this is so long, but I can relate. Pick someone you feel will genuinely be a part of your child's life, doesn't have to be family. Good luck!
Our siblings are out if the questions. I don't care if my MIL (because it would be her) gets upset about it. Just because someone is blood doesn't mean they are the best decision. We'd also like to avoid putting the pressure on our parents. My husband's are old and mine are basically raising my nephew already. I am a big worrier so I have nightmares about us both being killed in a car accident and there not being an established person to take care of our daughter. My husband always mentions that we can change it later, which is true, but we can't say Hey there, death, don't come around until we update our wills haha.

Just wait until you are further along and the baby has them. DS had them almost everyday when I was pregnant with him and then almost everyday for months once he was born. I loved it because my whole belly bounced (when I was further along) and I would lay next to DH so he could feel. So cool.

We were in this position because my 39 year old sister has Aspergers and is defiantly not in a position to be able to raise kids and DH does not want our kids going to his dad and stepmom. Honestly it is sad but the only family member DS is close with that we would trust is my dad and he is almost 70. We are leaving the kids to our closest friends in our will. They are a little older than us (40's) and both had kids young so they have six kids between them that are all already out of the house and a 14 year old together. We take vacations with them and they love DS and he loves them. Basically they are like family. I don't think there is anything wrong with leaving your kids to friends and not family. It scary to think of you both dying and leaving your kids and of course they aren't going to be perfect because they aren't you. I would try to discuss it with your DH and weigh the pros and cons and choose someone you feel comfortable with and your kids are close too. You def. don't want the court system to make the choose for you especially if you are not comfortable with your next of kin having them.
I just wanted to add my 2 cents in here. I have a God Daughter who also happens to be my cousin's child. My husband and I are the guardians of both of their children even though I am not the God Mother of her other child, and he is the God Father to either.
Anyway long story short, you can have both gaurdians and God Parents but they don't have to be the same people.

@SarahFoley725 My husband and I are the legal guardians of two of our nephews (BIL and SIL's boys) and we are fairly certain that we are going to reciprocate that with our child (and future children). They will not got to either set of grandparents if the worst case scenario happens - we would take them in as their legal guardians as we know that's their wishes and it's also in their will. If you want your parents or H's parents to be the legal guardians, then I would suggest putting that in your will somewhere. As PP post said, God parents are a mostly ceremonial role. Remember that your family members will grow up. I was also an idiot at 22 and would like to think I've done my fair share of growing up between now and then.

"mercury free" is what my OB orders for his office
So anterior placenta... For those that have it or have previously, what else does it mean beyond just not feeling kicks as early?
nothing really
@Mcbb224 the bellaBand is AWEsome!!! i have used it with all my pregnancies (and afterwards in the awkward PP stages, and as a belly cover when i'm nusring from under my shirt instead of over the top)!

I asked my OB about the flu shot (I got it today) and they said there is absolutely nothing different about it than any other flu shot they would give someone who wasn't pregnant. Not less mercury or anything, nothing different. So maybe it is different at different practices or something?
Recently I've noticed a small dark brown mark on my areola just below my nipple. It sort of looks like a freckle, it's not raised, I can't feel any lump and it doesn't hurt or itch. I know it's common for areoles to become darker during pregnancy but this is just one very small spot. I'll definitely ask my doctor about it but obviously it's kind of worrying me. Tried google but self diagnosis there is not such a good idea. Any insight?
@ecwk I had a couple of weird freckle like tags on my nipples with ds. My doctor sent me to a dermatologist to be on the safe side and he just said they were hormone related. They went away on their own. For piece of mind I would bring it up at your next appointment, but just wanted to share that I had a similar issue and it turned out to be nothing.
Re: Question Thread - "Stupid" or not - just ask away
Pros: it makes sleep so much better, especially in the second half of pregnancy.
Cons: it takes up a lot of your bed, your husband may hate it
I love mine!
Do it!!
