@gmj3, I'm not sure if this is the reason, however, I was told that sometimes if you go in for your scan before 20 weeks, the tech may not be able to get good images of every part and you may need to be called in again to get those. I wanted to get mine at 18 weeks and the scheduling desk convinced me that 20 would be better for this reason.
So i tried to search the Board but wasn't finding what I was looking for....
Has anyone needed a follow up anatomy scan? The tech said she couldn't get the spine or all images of the heart. I didn't see the doctor, but I'm due back in 4 weeks for a follow up, should I be worried or does this happen sometimes?
Yes, DD wasn't very cooperative and they couldn't get some of the measurements for her heart and spine. They had me do jumping jacks, drink juice, all sorts of things and she wouldn't budge. So I had to go back a couple weeks later to see if they could get them and they were able to. Everything was just fine. So it might be just that your baby was in a position that was difficult to get the right images, try not to worry.
When will DH be able to feel baby on the outside... I have been feeling movements for a couple of weeks now
Usually around 20-24 weeks is when people just start to feel it on the outside but it could be much later and that's okay too. There area lot of things that factor into it like the location of the baby, location of the placenta, and the weight of the mother. If you're thinner you can usually feel it on the outside sooner. I was overweight with DD but I think we still felt her on the outside around 22 weeks.

With DS2 I did. And it was to a perinatologist because I was having contractions for who knows why. They couldn't get a good reading of his spine because he liked wedging himself up against my uterine wall. So I went back at 23 weeks and everything looked good from the baby's standpoint.
@MrsLeanMeanClean sounds exactly like rlp. Not much fun. You can also feel rlp in your groin area.

We had to go back with DD because of the heart--they could not tell if there were 4 chambers. Everything was okay for us. Good luck!

Same happened with my daughter. Based on her position they couldn't get the right pictures. Re did it at 24 weeks and all was well!

I have to go back 11/11 for a follow-up scan. Baby is transverse lying on its tummy, and the tech was not able to get a good profile pic. Plus she discovered I have a low-lying placenta, so we have to make sure that moves up. AND I didn't get to find out the sex either, because of baby laying the way he/she was. I'm hoping to find out this next ultrasound- fingers crossed baby uncrosses its legs!

This is a weird question so bear with me. DD is 2 and I've been having dreams about her falling and breaking her arm and in the dream I have no idea how to get her to the hospital because I can't put her in her car seat. It's a terrible dream! But it made me think about it, what would you do in that situation? Hold them? Put them in the car seat and just try to be gentle about buckling them in?
@llybeck - My DD got a "nursemaid's elbow" (basically knocked her elbow out of joint) when she was 2. I just very carefully buckled her into the carseat to bring her to the ER. Loosen the straps as far as they can go to get it over her arm, then tighten them back up. Hopefully you'll never have to deal with it!

My sister had this with her second son. He was born smaller (6 pounds exactly) although perfectly healthy in every other way. Not sure if the size was attributed to the cord but I think that's a possible side affect. He is still on "small" side at 15 months but developing completely normal/on schedule for everything else. Hope that helps a little.
@llybeck my oldest broke his arm when he was 2y - he broke his forearm (fell down steps) while we were visiting DC and had his cast off for a month and then jumped off couch and broke his elbow (same side). Both times we just carefully buckled him in his seat - definitely safer (and more legal) than holding him in the car

TMI question (but I know some of yall can relate!) - can I just start taking stool softener (colace) or do I need to call my Dr. and get the okay first?

Generally colace is considered safe, and the most frequently recommended med for constipation during pregnancy. If it was me I'd just go ahead and take it, but that's ME. If you're worried, been having complications, or are considered high risk, by all means get the ok from your doc.

I know it's on my doctor's list of medicines that are okay to take, but it never hurts to check! Your doctor might have a list on their website that you could check as well.
Went for my 20 week ultrasound today and my OB said the baby is breached, I'm guessing he didn't really make a big deal out of it because he believes shes hgoing to turn herself later on but has anyone had this happen around this time and did the baby turn head down before delivery? Or is it normal for them to not be head down just yet? Thanks in advance for your responses!

No worries yet. Mine was transverse for his a/s. DS2 didn't go head down until 35w. Ds1 was 28 weeks. There is still a lot of time.

It's my understand that they move a lot before they get too big to get into the right position. There are some positions you can do to encourage baby to move (one is essentially getting on elbows and knees, sticking your butt high into the air, and wiggling your butt around; very glamorous - just don't let DH catch you lol)

No big deal at 20 weeks. They have plenty of time and room to flip. My second was breach at 20 weeks and I think she was head down by 28 weeks, but she definitely was by 36!
Speaking of ultrasounds, I have my AS next week. I've had an ultrasound at every appointment so far (not high risk just want my doctor/insurance do I guess) and I know that not everyone does that. I don't have another US scheduled for at least the rest of the year.
My question is: will they at some point start doing them again to make sure baby is doing fine before she gets here. A friend of mine won't have another one at all. I just kind of assume they checked on them or do they not unless they have reason to think something is wrong?

We had our 20 week a/s and then we didn't need another ultrasound. A lot of people take the option to pay an outside company to get those 4d imaging done around week 34/36, but I didn't feel the need to do that. Oddly enough, our OB office got a new 4d machine when I was 34 weeks and the us tech wanted a far along mom to play around with it - so we got some 4d photos of DS anyways. Other than that, it was just doppler and poking around to check baby positioning and such.

I get one at every visit too and will until I deliver. My sister however, got the ordinary few through the whole thing and I remember her getting one pretty close to full term just to check baby's position, amniotic fluid levels and that type of thing.

Last time, I only had one at 38 weeks because they were worried about the baby's growth.

My doctors office doesn't do another one past the AS unless there is a reason to. I didn't have any beyond a 20 week one with my first. My second they were worried about her size (they thought she was too small) so we had additional ultrasounds at 28, 32, and 36 weeks to check her growth. It seems like going from 20 weeks until birth is a long time, but hopefully it's a good thing! I have heard of doctors offices who do one near the end to check baby position and fluid, so I would check with them to see what they do

A 37ish week ultrasound is normal for a healthy pregnancy at my dr to confirm size and position. Wish dr with my first did this-before i carried my 41 week baby to 10lbs.
I have a baby shower question. Mom is throwing me one and now that I know I'm having a boy I know I'll be getting a lot of hand me downs. My nephew is 3 and a half and my sis still has a lot of his old clothes and DH's cousin has a 3 year old and ( I think) 6 month old boys and she said she has a ton of clothes. My sister also has a pack and play, an ergo carrier with an infant insert and a stroller and car seat. ANNNYYWAAY.... My question is how the heck do I make a registry? Do people give the used stuff as gifts? Should I ask what they would like to / plan on giving me so I can narrow down my list of things I would still need? ( since it seems like I won't need much) I'm not really one to follow strict etiquettes especially on my side of the family. we are all super open but even I wouldn't go around asking what my gifts would be! I'm so confused.

Good luck. Sounds like a pain but taking precautions is good (and you get to see baby grow up).

My only consultation is that the hospital is on the same university campus as me.. so park once (for free) and just walk...
OK ridiculous but serious... how does one tell the difference between braxton hicks and constipation (I have IBS and run loose normally so I am not sure I know what the latter feels like)...
LFAF- Best Olympic Moments... Jackie Joyner-Kersee
@MrsLeanMeanClean BH are not painful it's more a tightening of your uterus (later on you can see your stomach tighten as it happens), but constipation usually (for me at least) are more uncomfortable (or even painful) often with horrible bloating due to gas(also often the reason for the pain) and not much happening at the toilet even if it feels like you need to go. And also gas will slowly move it's way through your colon so the discomfort or pain from that will gradually get lower down while BH isn't moving like that.. Sorry if TMI, but that's the only way I could describe it...

I've received tons of hand me downs for my DS but I just made my registry as usual keeping in mind that I could go back later after the shower and complete my registry at a discount (or return truly unnecessary duplicates). Really, a registry just gives people an idea of what you want or need. A lot of gift givers will gift you what they found most helpful/loved, clothes, or something like that. You can still register for a PNP etc. it was very useful for us to receive duplicates because then we didn't have to lug those big items to Granny's house when she would watch him - she had the hand me down PNP and we used the new one.
Don't stress
@kitkatbird make a registry with everything you think you will need and want. I have never gotten a used gift as a shower gift. Most people if they plan on giving you a lot of used stuff they will still get you something off the registry and give you the other stuff personally at your house. It would be a little weird to bring a tote or bag full of things used in my opinion. Good luck and like @smushi said don't stress.

Has anyone had before or is receiving physical therapy? The bursitis is getting annoying (sort of helped by finding/stealing a new chair at work).... I would like to avoid steroid injections if possible
I try to keep moving by walking the dog, yoga and entertaining the thought of swimming (switching gyms to on campus so I can go in the middle of the day to break up the monotony of sitting at a desk)
I'm doing physical therapy right now for my hip. I had hip pain with my first pregnancy that turned excruciating while I was in labor, and it's coming back with a vengeance with this pregnancy. I've only had 1 visit so far, but hoping it can work miracles! I was told that one side of my pelvis is tipped anteriorly, so my pubic bones don't line up (which will probably cause pubic symphysis dysfunction later on as well) and some of my ligaments are shortening. Lots of stretching and some uncomfortable manual work as well. Gah.
MIL DRAMA- we found out the sex and planned on announcing it on social media. Everyone has been texting me asking, but I was trying to wait to tell MIL first who is in Aruba on vacation (and having an awful time) how?... Anyways, she said she doesn't want to find out till the baby is born. I told her that's pretty much impossible since our twin toddlers know the baby is a girl and talk about it constantly. Plus I plan on decorating the nursery accordingly, buying clothes, ect. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm not about to alter my conversations, hide baby girl things, tell my kids not to talk about their sister, just so MIL can "be surprised.
