Re: ~The Ongoing MOTN Check In ~

  • Up for what I had hoped would be a feeding, but this little girl is not eating for nearly as long since my milk came in yesterday. She basically had a few swigs and then then passed f out. My boobs are now huge and as hard as rocks, and I am covered in milk!

  • Sorry @jendem8‌, but I'm laughing so hard right now at the covered in milk part. The same thing happened to me when it came in and his tummy was too small to eat much. I pumped some and that helped! I feel like I am constantly covered in either milk or spitup and I definitely need to shower more. Good news they start eating more/emptying you pretty fast, at 6 days old we are already close to getting there.
  • @stoofewok‌ I ended up using nipple shields bc my little one was so overly sleepy. The shield triggers her suck reflex better than my nipple. Now that my milk is in she is eating better and I only use the shields half of the time. She has had no issues or confusion. She also took a bottle well with no confusion.

@jendem8‌ pump or hand express! I pumped about 2.5 ounces out and felt ten times better! Then my husband was able to give her a bottle later and I got a nap.
  • My husband is sanitizing the pump parts for me right now...

So much milk! So much pain!

  • Hey ladies. It's just a couple minutes past midnight here. After feeding Ben, changing his diaper and giving him a suppository to help loosen up a really hard poop that he's been working on getting out all day, I FINALLY got Benjamin to sleep.

Although, because of his cold and the yucky drainage that he's been having, I eventually had to give up on getting him to lay in the bassinet and put him down in his RNP.

I know a lot of parents swear by them, but I've never had him in it overnight before. I'm guessing I'll be up all night watching him to make sure he's breathing. I'm scared of new things! Ah!

  • Laying awake thinking of all the little things I need to do/pick up... Realized today we only have one changing pad cover, will definitely need a couple more! Baby nail trimmers too. Need a pair of those.
I keep getting flashes of anxiety. Frig.

  • It's 1:09am here and I'm just having warm waves of uncomfortable pain like spasms in my lower back, also a migraine which is just SUPER when I have to be up super early to drive an hour to finally take a tour of the L&D ward where I'll be delivering eventually. Does not help my sciatic nerve is killing me too so I can't even lay on my left side right now.

Wishing my S/O could just come take me home so I can sleep in our bed not on a couch and have baby relaxing because dad's close instead of acting like they are doing kickboxing. Due on the 25th this month yet OB says I could be anywhere from 2 - 3 weeks away from delivering.
  • I hope some of you are getting well deserved rest by the way!
  • I'm here. I hate it. But I'm here.

DH woke up DS1 - who then refused to go back to sleep unless firmly nestled into our bed. This would be totally fine if he didn't sleep like an octopus. How can a 20 month old take up 4/5 of a king size bed?? By performing "the H pattern": feet on/in my back, head on Dad's chest.

I'm being kicked in the kidneys by one child, and punched in the cervix by the other one. Ermehgawd I just want to SLEEP!!!!!!!
  • Up for the second night feeding here, it's almost 3 am. Sebastian still has a clean and dry diaper from his last change two hours ago!!! I'm extatic lol, guess who can let their sleepy baby stay asleep! Just have to battle some hiccups...
  • Unhappily checking in. Would rather be up with a newborn than wide awake for no reason. Soon... I suppose.

I'm up. First feeding of the night. Tried out the football hold just now and it was funny because DD2 didn't understand where my nipple was, she kept turning her head to the side and looking. Maybe it's just funny cause I'm sleep deprived.

Lmao at my previous comment. LO just blew out of his diaper cause he peed so much. His sheets need to be changed now, this bililight cover, you name it it. and I need a shower!
ETA now I'm covered in milk too...
  • It's 5 ish and I'm up for Garrett's second feeding. I've had trouble the past two nights getting to sleep in his bassinet. He will eventually sleep, but it takes 2 hours of nursing, reswaddling, attempting to burp, and putting his paci back in a lot. Once he's out there's no problem, and he goes back down after feedings.

  • Wide awake too... 38w1d and zero sign of baby. This little girl is going to be fashionably late I just know it! Wish I could sleep cause I know I will get much less sleep once this little girl is here... Come on sandman!!

We have 2 covers but have only used one in 5 weeks. My mom bought these small skinny waterproof pads for the changing table (they are literally the size of DD) and I've been using those. It's so much easier to toss in into the hamper and throw another one down than to change the while cover. Just an idea.

Any who. It's 3:30 and I think DD's hiccups have stopped which means I can try and get some sleep now. I really hope I don't wake up with this stupid headache that I seem to have developed.
We did those first time around. Works great

  • Up for the first feeding with DS2. The first feeding is always the worst for me- it's the one where I am always the most tired and struggle to stay awake. I would live to sleep more than two hours in a row. Hopefully soon!

Same here... Pregnant and uncomfortable with crazy indegestion. :/

  • I'm still working graves so I'm up all night but man this kid needs to get a move on! 37+2 and I've hit the insomnia period to where it's impossible for me to get good rest and I'm nauseated all the time. Can't wait to hold my DS!!!
  • Thinking we've hit a growth spurt. K has decided she wants to eat every thirty minutes or so tonight. It's going to be a long one.
  • Omg DS has the worst gas. We keep checking to make sure he didn't poop. These feedings are going to be rough if they continue. I don't see how an ebf baby can smell that bad.

  • Tell me why when my alarm goes off mon-fri at 0500, it's the absolute hardest thing in the world to open my eyes and drag myself out if bed.. But when DH's alarm goes off at the same time on a Saturday, my body is like "alright let's do this!!".. And I'm wide awake.

Or why on the one day of the week when you can actually sleep in, you wake up at 4am unable to go back to sleep. And NOT because of contractions/labor.

  • I can never post in this thread during the actual MOTN because i can't see clearly enough to type anything.

Last night I was THAT mom. The one crying in the dark because the only place baby would sleep was on me. BF was at work so i was alone and frustrated. I've mentioned it before but just in case anyone was wondering: I hate the newborn stage.

Do you have a swing? DS1 napped in the swing for almost 5 months because it was either that or on me. I've been there and it sucks. Do you have a white noise machine? It might help LO settle.

I have been there too! I distinctly remember a night, two or three weeks after DS was born, when I was up in the middle of the night AGAIN with the newborn who wouldn't sleep-- while DH was snoring in the bed right next to us as both baby and I cried. I very clearly remember thinking about shoving his dirty socks in his mouth and smothering him with a pillow. :)

It does get better, I promise! I second PP's suggestions about trying the swing, noise, music, even just the TV on in the background.   I often fall asleep with the TV on and DS got so used to hearing the noise in the background while I was pregnant, that trying to have him fall asleep in a silent room after birth was just not going to happen. But I put a little music, or any kind of noise on in the background, and he would drop off instantly.

Hopefully, the same thing will work this time around.... Good luck, mama! Hugs to you!

It took me 2.5 hours to get DD1 to sleep tonight. Not my newborn, my 2.5 yr old. I was so frustrated. And now I still have my newborn to deal with. Ugh.

  • DS has not wanted to sleep in his crib all. day. I just got a good feeding in, he has a clean diaper, I swaddled him in his woombie and I *think* he is finally down! Which means I might get to sleep for 2 hours for the first time since 6 am yesterday morning.

@stoofewok‌ the engorgement will end soon and everything will feel so much better (no more pain) and latching will be easier. Hang in there, you got this! I pumped a little bit during that time to take the top off and it made latching easier for both of us. I'm not sure if you are supposed to do that but it helped me...
  • LO had a nice 4 hour stretch between feedings but now I'm doing a back to back feeding. Hopefully this will satisfy her so I can get more sleep!

BFing is so time consuming, I never realized how much of my day would be spent attatched to her.
  • Went to bed at midnight and Been awake since 3:30 with cramps and back ache.  It's now 6:30 and I've given up trying to go back to sleep.  Whyyyyyyyyy! BF finally comes home today around 1-2 so hopefully I can catch a nap in before that.

This was DS last night as well. I was much more out of it with the 4 hr stretch than the 1.5-2 hr stretches afterwards.

  • It's 2:30 and I'm up nursing Garrett for his first night time feed. He's nursing better today so I'm hoping I won't have a problem with leaking/engourgement tonight. My boobs were so painful last night and all this morning, and that makes carrying a toddler downstairs awful!

  • LO slept over five straight hours before getting up to eat at 2:30. Happy camper right here :-)

Nice! We are still every 3 hours around the clock here. I'm ready for one slightly longer stretch.

  • Finally got LO down so now I'm going to try and sleep. It's 12:30, usually he is down by 10 and waking up for his first feeding around 1. Here's hoping it's not a long night!
