I think the term "selfie" needs to die... Or at least never be used by anyone over the age of...say...35. My in laws, both in their late 60s, say it regularly, and all I can do is cringe. They think they're being young and hip, but....no. Just...no.

Not watching the VMAs but just read that Suge Knight got shot 6 times at a pre VMA party at Chris Brown's house.
Chris brown is there
Hah. It was either internet MUD or just Chris Brown being an uncaring dick as always. I'm too tired to fact check.
No your right about suge knight getting shot just I don't think it was there
I think I read that it was at Chris Brown's VMA party, not at the actual VMAs. I wouldn't be surprised if it happened and Chris Brown still showed up-he's such a little asshole.
We had LO baptized today and it was great. My family is huge, loud, exhausting and totally awesome.
Went to the sox game yesterday where my BFF was honored as Veteran of the game. So proud to watch him receive a standing ovation from a sold out Fenway crowd. Also I nip-ed in the bleachahs!!!!
Also, my SIL posted a picture of baby girl captioned "Eddie Mae." Made my eye twitch a bit. I think I'm deciding not to say anything unless it happens again...

The following random thought isn't about nor directed at you, Schuerg, your comment just reminded me of it, so you get tagged by default. I've never understood it when parents get upset about nicknames. I've had friends insist I call their kid only by their given name. (And I'm not talking Eddie Mae, I'm talking Mikey instead of Micah.) To me, nicknames mean love. They mean connection. They mean I'm trying to find something to call your kid that is unique to our relationship because I love them. I also don't get being upset about nicknames because when they get into school we'll have zero control over what others choose to call them. My sister calls Josie Joey. I call her JoJo, but for some reason Joey gets under my skin. Still, I can tell she's doing it out of love, and to have a nickname and a bond that's just hers with my daughter. So I let her have it.
Anyway, no offense meant to you if you (general you) are a parent who gets picky about nicknames. You have a right to be. I just personally don't get it.

I agree with you BIRL. The kids at daycare started calling Chase, Chaser. DH hated it and asked our daycare provider to put a stop to it. They still call him that on occasion, but I don't have a problem with it, so I don't say anything.
Before Carlene was born, we discussed the possibility of her having the nickname Carly. We both agreed that it was cute. Now my Mom has called her Carly, and DH has asked her to stop. The funny thing is, DH goes by a nickname, and always has!

@twirple that's funny about your hubby's name! My given is Christine but I've never been called that except when I'm in trouble. At Doctor's offices I have to remind myself to answer. Josie will be the same way, I bet. I call her Josephine occasionally, but she's my Josie Bean. We picked names based on the nicknames we liked, which I'm aware places me in the minority. Little did we know we'd end up calling her Bean 90% of the time instead of anything actually having to do with her name!

Kiddo is only ever called by his full name, except at checkups when the doctor refers to him by the very common but (for us) entirely unused nickname. He barely even understands the doctor is calling his name because he's so unfamiliar with anything but his full name.
So G started coughing just over a week ago, but he doesn't really have any other cold symptoms. He acts fine, but then will have coughing spells, usually while sleeping. Now thanks to Dr Google, I'm awake at 330 listening to him breathe because I'm worried about whooping cough. I know he probably doesn't have it, but I'll be calling the doctor in the morning to make sure.
@Tferr02, whooping cough has a pretty recognizeable sound to it, as they gasp kind of when breathing in. Definitely sounds different from a normal cough. I'm sure your LO is fine! But definitely call the doc if you need the reassurance.

I really didn't think I minded "Sully" until Sullivan was here and people started calling him that. It irks my nerves. We call him Sullivan or Turd or Stink or Dude.
Also, my kid has totally sleep trained me. If he wakes, he does so around 4-4:30. Tonight, he has slept right on through. I woke up out of habit at 5:30 like, why didn't Sullivan wake me up yet? Now I can't sleep. Well played, turd.
He also has his four month well check today and I have to work. ( I know he and daddy will be just fine but I hate he's getting shots and I won't be there.
LO is Timothy. We call him "baby Timmy." I assume as he gets older he'll become Tim, or his full name when he's in trouble. I also call him Tman, Tbone, Mr. Crab, Crabman, Crabby Patty, Timmy Timmy timbo mo saw rembo, squirt, Doodle, and Buddy Booboo. I Iike nicknames....
As a sidebar, I think it's adorable to call babies "baby X." Especially hearing my toddler call her brother "baby Timmy."

We are a house full of nicknames, don't know why but we shorten everyone's names. Sapphira usually ends up being Phira (fear-a), Jacob usually ends up being Jake or Jakie and Logan gets called LoLo on occasion but that only came about because Jake had a hard time saying Logan and calls him LoLo.

We tried one arm out last night and he ended up crying and scratching his face pretty bad I just want this swaddle to go away! Now we have his 4 month check up and shots today. AND the semester starts today. I hope I have the strength to get through the week.
Ugh - DH and I both forgot to grab a sleep sack for daycare, and Aiden naps terribly without it... ( With all the travel and crappy pack 'n play sleep this weekend I was really counting on him taking some super naps today
Oh nicknames... My husbands family has them so intensely you would never know any of there real names! It's cute but I personally don't like that. In our wedding vows I called my DH by his nickname because I didn't think of him by his real name! Not like "Johnny" for John--- more like Ranger for Steven. All my fams nicknames are based off of our names... Me: Liesie for Elisa. We named Andrew with anticipation of calling him either Andy or Drew, preferably not AJ, but he is just Andrew for now! As long as he isn't called sweet potato (what I call him) during his wedding vows, we're cool.

Earthquakes scare me! Glad everyone is ok!
I can't wait to be back with DH, mainly so we won't fight about money anymore. When he is away, he spends money like crazy and it pisses me off. I stressed for weeks about spending $40 on a water park and he just blew through $90 at some Frankie's Fun Park. If I say anything to him about it, he gets really defensive and angry, but it frustrates me! He complains about bills and our savings not being more, but then he flies through money when he's away from us. He feels like he deserves to do what he wants because he is away at school and is bored. However, when he does that it leaves no money for me or the kids to do anything fun. Ugh pretty much, DH being away at army schools turns him into a selfish asshole and after 4 months of it, I'm over it. 3 more weeks..
Dude, he needs to grow the eff up. No one deserves to do what they want whenever if they can't afford it. I have no understanding for people who act that way.
I don't mind nicknames at all. My FIL has called her princess, cutie pootie and chubby cheeks. I think he's only used her real name a handful of times. I call her baby more often than by her real name. BUT. I hate the name Eddie. If I wanted her to be called Eddie, I would've named her that, but I didn't. Eddie, no matter how you spell it, is a boy's name. It reminds me of Eddy Winslow or Ed, Edd and Eddy. To me, Edolie is a beautiful name, which is why we chose it, and to shorten it to Eddie drastically changes the sound of the name and takes away from the beauty of it.
I don't think it's so much out of love rather than just wanting to shorten a name. People are obsessed with shortening names. I don't know why. I met a sweet old man at church last week, and he called me Sam even though my husband introduced me as Samantha. I didn't mind at all because I've been called that before, but I know he wasn't doing it out of love. lol

About nicknames, I always threw a tantrum as a child is someone tried to call me by something other than my given name. DH uses a shortened version of his name. I call DD princess, muffin, munchkin, & stinky butt. she smiles the most when I call her stinky butt
