The downside to one year maternity leave, I need to go back to work in January and can't find a daycare that will take a baby this young.

Sympathy lovetit, I briefly considered going back early until I realized there wasn't one daycare around here that accepts kids younger than 12 months. The French one I considered doesn't even take them until 18 months. Poop
    Wat?!

What are you supposed to do with them if you want to work? Not work?
Find an in-home daycare in that case, because the businesses won't take them. That's why a lot of women don't go back to work for a few years here-the cost of daycare and the logistics don't make it worth it unless you make enough money that you essentially wouldn't be working for nothing.
It can be hard to find an in home too because the licensed home daycares can only take 5 kids - only 2 of these can be 2 and under. And you can't have more than 3 that are 3 and under. My 2 year old is in an in home daycare and I left her there while I am on mat leave so that I can save her spot and my provider is holding a spot for LO. If I were to change I would need to find a place that could give me both her spots for 2 and under....

Really? So they don't even make it an option for you to work sooner?
Not really, you won't find a daycare that takes them younger unless it's someone running one from their house. Even then it's SUPER expensive if they're under 12 months.
Around here the CPE would but they're so full anyways...I'm just really grateful for my inhome DCP because I'm starting back in Jan too.
@Jessimax‌ are you going back to your old job or did you get the other one?
  • @deidremaria‌ that is so sad. I'm so sorry for your family's loss!
  • Hugs @deidremaria‌. I am so sorry. That's so heartbreaking. T&P's for your family.

  • Yes, the baby is alive. He's in the NICU because he was without oxygen for a while. He's being closely monitored. Thank you guys for the thoughts. This is such a heartbreaking thing.
Oh I thought he was lost too.. So glad to hear that he still has a chance, and I'm praying he pulls through and gets stronger every day!

Okay y'all, I'm all caught up on Parenthood and have to wait for the new episode. In the meantime, what are some other Netflix and/or Hulu recommendations you have?

The CPE ' S here do take little ones but unless you have an older child already in one the wait is 2-4 years so I'm not holding my breath. And most of the in home ones don't want kids under 18 months. I'm still waiting to hear back from the new job so looks like I will be going back to the agency and another year of insane schedule balancing with no childcare. I'm exhausted just thinking about it.

That's so frustrating :( Good luck, hopefully you'll find something soon
  • Tried to go to my ob appt today. After sitting there for an hour without going back I had to reschedule for tomorrow because the baby had an appt. I'm still having bad pains in my side and back, but I guess that has to wait until tomorrow.

DS has a bug and I'm hoping is gets better soon. Thankfully there is no ear infection. I'm hoping it all clears up because if it doesn't DS will have to be tested for parasites and other bacterial infections, ugh. His diaper rash is still terrible and I can touch him without him crying.

    I just want to cry.

  • Now I'm all paranoid about ear infections. DS grabs the back of his head often but I haven't seen any other signs. His sleep is complete garbage but it has always been like that. I've just brushed off the grabbing and thought nothing of it. Now I'm all paranoid about whether or not I should get him checked.
  • DH has an interview for a new job tomorrow, which is really exciting and awesome as it sounds like the perfect job for him and it would be an amazing opportunity. Money's better than what I'm making, and it will be nice not to be behind all the time. The only problem is that with his schedule, we either have to have a sitter for a few hours two days a week, or I need to cut back on my schedule by two days. He won't budge on no sitter. We have tons of folks who have offered. I really don't want to cut back on my schedule. This shouldn't be such a big deal but we haven't come to a compromise on it and now we are just snipping at each other about it and stupid crap.
  • Dani, he's mostly nervous about leaving Sullivan with anyone ever. I am a little too, but really, we gotta start somewhere! And having a sitter for four hours max in the afternoon while I'm literally two blocks away with the flexibility to run home in a pinch, sounds like a good start to me. He generally has a nap in that window of time, and a sitter who has begged to hang out with him isn't going to be doing chores or not looking while he toddles and could fall over, they are going to be playing with the baby the whole time.

He's also concerned about paying someone (get over it, I'm willing to pay .25-.5 of the day's pay to be able to go to work), overworking ourselves (we will have no days off together either way, but he may have a point), and our (my) ability to keep up with the house while we are both working full time.

He's not entirely unreasonable, but I just want to try it out at least one day a week before I cut my hours/job in half!

Maybe I'll mix some fruit in next time so it isn't boring.
I told DH to get a small container and he brought home a quart. So either A needs to get eating or I have to find another use for the plethora of yogurt in this house.

There are some tasty cake recipes you can make with yogurt!
  • We can find stony field full fat plain yogurt and a few brands of full-fat plain Greek yogurt. I always mix a bit of fruit purée into it but I wonder if he would eat it plain.

  • I would like to take a moment to say that I think it's total bullshit that sex isn't listed as an exercise in MFP.

Back in the day I remember searching for semen to see what the calories were. Now that's gone too! Wtf MFP. Get on board with us dirty whores.

    I agree.

  • Ladies that use culturelle (probiotic) for your babies, what kind? DH got the packets for kids and I figured that I could use half a packet or so for DH. I'm desperate. His rash is terrible.

  • Thanks @celticlullaby‌! I appreciate all your advice today. Diaper rash blows when it gets this bad. He's has like 4 baths today to wash off all the poop since he won't let me wipe. Boo!

Books! I finally finished making/installing the shelves. I was tired of the limited, unpacked selection and now we have so many choices! I have one of those grid bookcases downstairs that I'll haul up and put under the shelves for you storage. Any leads on where to get the canvas bins that fit in the squares? Preferably cute ones with animals or at least a good color selection.
I got primary colors at Lowes.  I'm sure walmart and target have them too.
