Hey everyone! To help keep the discussion board a bit more organized, here's a mega thread for all your questions related to the 1st trimester of pregnancy. We can pool all of our knowledge here and help everyone out!
I have some natures made that I have been taking all year so I will continue those for now. Last time I had to buy a new kind every week till I found one that didn't make me sick. Hopefully I don't have morning sickness for 8 months this time.
Following for vitamin ideas. I have a gummy pn vitamin that I bought about a month ago when I wasn’t sure. I’ll want to switch to something with iron though probably.
Another question. What’s everyone doing for skin care? I have acne prone skin and while I don’t use anything too harsh, I’ve just never found a brand I really like. I was using a clay based cleanser, but right now it feels like it’s leaving a layer on my face and I end up not using it or following up with exfoliating.
I use charcoal soap and CBD beauty boost. Sometimes I’ll add like a drop of frankincense. Honestly though I get hormonal acne bad while pregnant and I stop trying to fix it😬
I’m using full well prenatal plus a separate iron only and a separate dha/epa only. Both iron and dha are not well absorbed when taken with the rest of the vitamins found in the prenatal so you really want to take them separate.
Side note - does anyone else worry about how high the percentages are of each vitamin in all these prenatals? Taking more than 100% of daily needs just doesn’t make sense when could cause a vitamin/mineral toxicity….. especially when you add to the daily total all the vitamins and minerals we are getting from the foods we eat
Also my prenatal is low on calcium and choline so i make sure to eat 1 egg each day to make up for the choline and a few pieces of cheese to ensure i hit my numbers! Every parental is different but IMO they all lack something.
@lilbabeincubator it depends on whether the vitamins are fat soluble or water soluble. Most are water soluble so they just get peed out. It also depends on if the vitamin is synthetic or food based. If synthetic it’s not as bioavailable so our bodies aren’t absorbing all of what the label says. That’s kind of why I went more food based this time around
Y'all making me feel like such a slacker! I'm just finishing out my bottle of regular vitamins plus folic acid, and then I'll just get whatever from Target is available besides the Alive brand (those tasted funky last time around). I usually take them at night (my "dessert") so no issues with gross burps or nausea from them.
Hello! Last Friday I had my second blood work draw through my reproductive endocrinologist. HCG is looking good, but my progesterone was 16.7, which is close to the level they want it to be (20). My doc said nothing to be concerned about, but I want to make sure. Anyone else have an experience like this? Is this okay, or should I push for supplementation? Appreciate the help!
I’m so stressed about when to tell close family! If not for Christmas, I was planning on MLK weekend when I’ll be almost 12 weeks and I’ll be spending the weekend with DS and my parents. I hope I can make it till then and plan a fun way to tell them. But I’ll be there from Dec 23-27 and my mornings have gotten rough. I’m not sure I can hide it from them but I’m going to try. In my family early pregnancy is more stress than excitement and I just want to get to that sweet spot safe zone (which I know never really exists anyway) so we can be excited. That said, I need to come up with a backup plan in case I feel I do have to tell them over Christmas — maybe a Christmas ornament or something to open.
I think we will be telling our families when we see them this week/weekend. I don't really wanna deal with trying to hide my symptoms really and we have a really cute announcement shirt for DD that really only works for a Christmas any way 😹 but I get not feeling comfortable telling others yet.
@thejessmajeski Personally, I would push for them to supplement. My progesterone is fine and I’m supplementing for other reasons. Tell them it would improve the quality of your mental health because you would be less anxious.
@stashattack we shouldn’t need the spotting thread later. I can’t remember what else is a sticky off the top of my head right now.
As for telling family, I tell them right away. They are our major support system. I prefer to not go through this alone. I also told my best friend. Most of my friends knew we would be TTC soon. So they won’t be surprised when I do announce.
Oh, we could just edit the title and make it a question thread. That’s what we have always done in past BMBs. That way it doesn’t get lost. You just add to it as we progress.
That’s unfortunate. It’s going to be hard to expect everyone on the board to use the question thread when it’s getting buried underneath a bunch of other threads.
I looked back at the June 2023 BMB and they have a question thread that isn’t specific to a trimester. What we could do is just abandon this one and make a new one and then ask for a sticky.
How do you hide your pregnancy during the holidays? I’m super nauseous and usually I’m the partier (drinker) and I’m eating all the rare prime rib and cold cuts and it’s a total giveaway.
My boyfriend doesn’t want to tell anyone just yet. At least until my first appt but that’s not until January!
@lmn823 Girl, eat the prime rib. I have eaten steak throughout all my pregnancy and I honestly can’t stomach anything cooked at medium. It’s never been an issue. As for everything else. Just keep a drink in your hand if you feel you need to. Or be the designated driver. A non fitted top goes a long ways at hiding the bloat.
@lmn823 I have the same problem. I say eat the food, not going to hurt. We are having NYE at our house this year so I’m going to keep a drink handy but not drink it or make myself mocktails and hope no one notices.
@lmn823 wait why would you not eat prime rib? I'm in Nebraska and beef is like its own food group here. Telling a pregnant woman to not eat something that used to be a cow would be like telling her not to breathe. As for the cold cuts, your odds of getting listeria from a piece of deli meat are roughly akin to being struck by lightning when you aren't even outside (and no, that isn't hyperbole, that's actual numbers) so if you want some black forest ham, eat up!
@ccmrc143 we're telling my niece and nephew tonight (their parents and mine already know). We wrapped a box for each of them with a pacifier in it so when they unwrap it and are like "why do I have a paci, I'm 8" we'll tell them it isn't actually for them, it's for them to share with their new baby cousin. That way they get a cute announcement AND I can actually use them for Baby.
My first prenatal appointment is this Friday but my best estimate is that I’m somewhere in my 7th week. Biggest symptom to hit me so far is loss of appetite / queasiness. I’m not throwing up nor have I yet felt so queasy to the point of vomiting, but my tummy is super off and it’s been hard to feel hungry or have desire to eat like I usually do :/
Re: Questions Mega Thread
For prenatals I’m doing dessicated beef organ complex, mineral essence, garden of life omega3’s, and Ningxia red!
