The Great Big Question Thread

Re: The Great Big Question Thread

  • @chuckle_sandwich after my scan last week they did tell me that spotting could happen because they were pushing on me pretty hard. I actually expecting bruising from it. But I would call for sure tomorrow when they open if you aren’t overly worried today.

  • @chuckle_sandwich I have not heard of bleeding after an abdominal ultrasound, it is likely just a coincidence. Pink spotting without known cause would warrant further investigation in my opinion.
  • @baby-h2022 It seems to have stopped, so I plan to call in the morning.
  • Has anyone else dealt with restless legs during pregnancy? I just started feeling restless the hour or so before bed this past week. My doctor recommended taking magnesium. Has anyone taken magnesium for restless legs or found another solution that helped?
  • Yes- I use the Calm drink - works well for me

Yes!  Same for me.  She also suggested a magnesium lotion.  She recommended Asutra but it didn't work for me at all.  I ordered the 8 sheep organics sleepy lotion or bedtime or something like that and I put it on my legs every night.  It works amazing for me.  I sometimes put some on my lower back or my belly at bedtime too and it really has made a huge difference.
  • I take Natural vitality  calm also. It helps me sleep, and helps leg cramps that i was getting in my last pregnancy and started getting a little with this one too.  I haven’t taken it in a couple days but I’m feeling like I probably should

  • Light bleeding after sex is most likely because your cervix is more sensitive now and got a little irritated. My midwife told it’s only really a concern if it doesn’t go away and is more like period bleeding.
  • For those of you who bought a Doppler, did you just buy one of the random ones on Amazon? I’m having trouble finding one with any reviews.
  • Has anyone had a mother to be message done? I am staying at the Gaylord Opry Land hotel this week for work and they offer a mother to be spa treatment. But don’t know if it’s safe to do it. I am 23+4

@baby-h2022 during my first pregnancy I had massage done around this gestation a few times and close to birth had physiotherapy which included some massage. They generally have extra training for it, you don't lay on your belly, on your back they raise your right side (which is where the artery is that can be problematic), and they avoid pressure areas which can cause issues. If you're at all worried you can ask to see their certificates but it's pretty safe to enjoy =) I'm probably going to book myself one next month

  • @baby-h2022 I have not, but hope to have a prenatal massage or two soon. My mom got me a gift certificate for a local spa. One of DHs friends used to work there and recommended a specific massage therapist to book with. I've been seeing a physical therapist that does some light massage to help with tightness in my back.
  • Thanks! I am having lots of trouble with my left hip and lower back so any help sounds so appealing right now.
  • Another question. Today I noticed pink/brown discharge when I went to the bathroom. It’s a shock to the eyes and starts the mind tricks when I see this. But I I haven’t had this in a while now. I am having some constipation like you wouldn’t believe and this is when I noticed the discharge. Sorry for TMI. But has anyone else ever noticed this happening. The baby is active today and I am not cramping. And I have been wearing a back brace until I can get my maternity belt. And I am having to do a lot more walking and stairs this week than I normally do because of the hotel and conference I am in. So just asking out of curiosity because I am states away from my dr and family.
  • Thank you for this comment/response, I am going for my anatomy scan in a couple days and I feel the baby is not the gender I want and I'm scared I'll not be able to hide disappointment on my face.
  • Anyone do their glucose screening yet? I did mine today. That sugar drink has totally messed with me all day! No appetite, moody, sugar crash this afternoon. Blood results were normal, so glad I don’t have to do that one again!
  • @jo-lynn82 I had mine this week.  The sugar drink was gross and I got a little flush feeling but it didn’t linger too long.   The drink seems to start out ok then the sugar starts stinging my throat or something. I think it’s the same as a “squeeze it” - I don’t know if they make those anymore but in 1993 I always wanted them and finally my parents gave in and got me some to take for lunch and it was just too sweet
  • @autumn87654321 yeah, first sip was not too bad, like overly sweet sprite, but the rest was nasty. I slammed it fast.

    @mflowers929
im feeling pooped all of the time.  I don’t think it’s sudden for me though

pooped and weak. Need to get some exercise but back hurts and I have a 19 month old who climbs on me and pulls my hair when I try to do my physical therapy exercises or yoga.  And by the time he goes to sleep I have to clean the kitchen  and sleep also
  • @autumn87654321 lol, I meant popped as in your belly, but yes, pooped too ;)

  • @mflowers929 yes, very much so. I’ve had to break out maternity scrubs, which make me look WAY more pregnant. I’m feeling much bigger earlier this time around than I was with my second, I have the pelvic aches and pains that didn’t come until third trimester with her. It’s making me nervous for what’s to come 😅
  • @mflowers929 I feel like I popped a few weeks ago, but then this week I feel like my belly is lower. I carried low with DS too. This time it seemed like I was carrying higher until just recently. I've noticed with how I'm carrying now, the waddles and hip achiness have already begun.
  • I’ve started feeling the Braxton Hicks tightness when I overdo it. I was cleaning up the family room and vacuuming this morning and had to take frequent breaks to sit down, drink some water, and let it pass. This is earlier than my other two kiddos for them to start, maybe because I’m older this time around?
  • @mflowers929 lol I guess my tiredness is adding extra Os . Yes certainly popped too. But it doesn’t seem like all the sudden. It’s my second pregnancy so I started showing early but it finally looks like pregnancy belly more than beer belly
  • I have popped. I looked in the mirror last week with a dress on and there she was in all her glory looking like a tent! But last night I noticed again when I tried to reach the bottom of the washing machine. I am short and can normally lean in over the top but last night baby belly and boobs got all in the way. When I came out of the laundry room my husband asked what all the noises were for..I apparently was vocal and he heard me on the other side of the house.
  • I'm overweight so not noticing a bump shape yet, but I can definitely tell it's in the way when I sit or try to get up lol.
  • I should probably note that I didn't "pop" until about 32 weeks with my previous two pregnancies, so I'm feeling happy about this lol

  • @baby-h2022 I can't reach the bottom of the washer anymore either. Laundry is now mostly DHs job. I just told and put it away.
  • @ftmhem I know the feeling!  I never have trouble falling asleep while I’m cuddling with my 19 month old to get him to fall asleep. Then I make myself get up after dozing for a little while wash the dishes and then I can’t sleep.  Any time I wake up I assume I have to pee so I can’t Just go back to sleep.  (This is a bad habit and I still have some pelvic floor weakness from my last birth)  I’m always thirsty at night but don’t want to pee all night.
I’ve been taking CALM magnesium powder at night which helps a little. Helps with leg cramps and other pregnancy related ailments too. But still find myself tossing and turning wondering why I couldn’t keep myself a wake an hour or two earlier and now I can’t sleep

the u shaped pregnancy pillow and white noise also help

  • I can’t sleep either - I am a back sleeper and have a ton of hip pain trying to sleep on my hips. On my worst nights I get about 45 minutes of sleep at a time. On my best nights, maybe a 3 hour stretch. Stretching and hip massage at physical therapy have helped the hip pain some but it isn’t great. Any chance I’ll actually sleep BETTER with a newborn???
  • @rebeccahoo12345 same here. Hip pain is off the charts. I’ve tried a pillow between my knees and other pillow arrangements, but just end up tossing and turning all night. I will say that I slept wonderfully on a very soft hotel bed recently, it has me thinking of getting a pillowtop cover for my mattress. Otherwise, I guess more epsom salt baths and easy yoga it is!
  • I’m too tired to search for the post on baby products - cribs. So just going to post here.

What is your preference and why?
Full size crib vs Mini crib and Pack-n-Play with bassinet vs just a bassinet.

We (I mean myself, my husband is just wanting me to make a decision) are trying to decide on what to purchase. The baby will be in our room while we are both home on maternity/paternity leave and then she will move to her own room. So just looking to see what is out there and the options are endless.
  • @baby-h2022 we have a regular sized crib but DS slept in our room for the first year , at first in a bed side sleeper that can open onto the bed-(we’ll be using this with the new baby too) - he grew out of that eventually and also I’m a pushover for most of the first year he was in bed with us. Then I bit the bullet and moved him to his crib and did some sleep training.

A pack and play is nice for travel but I liked not having to lean down to move him into his bedside sleeper.
  • @baby-h2022 Just throwing this out there- we felt more comfortable using a pack and play when they were older because they had a harder time climbing out of it than a regular crib.  Although both of my kids learned very early how to get out of any type of confinement, which has been exhausting. This time around I think we are just going to do a low bed when they are 1+.
  • @baby-h2022 I recommend a pack n play. It’s nice to have one for traveling as they get older. We did the pack n play for a few months in our room and then crib in own room. With baby three I was gifted a bassinet that I liked having right next to my bed bc he had a few breathing issues (ended up all being fine) and I needed him right next to me. But  the top raised part of the pack n play worked just fine for my other two as newborns. I also think the changer and napper are unnecessary.
