I had a 16 week scan today and found out we have Persistent Right Umbilical Vein (PRUV). Our doctor was reassuring and said there was no huge cause for concern as there is good blood flow and baby doesn't seem to have any malformations or abnormalities. My NIPT came back negative for any conditions and baby looks healthy with a good heartrate but I can't help but be concerned. Has anyone else had this issue?
@mollywood999 a friend did who was pregnant at the same time I had dd. Everything was totally fine during the pregnancy although they pushed her to induce early. The birth was completely great for her as well. I do remember that her son had some seizure scares as a baby, but I can't remember if they were related to the condition. He is a happy and super smart 6 y.o. today!
I’m 17 weeks today and all week I’ve been experiencing horrible pelvic pain. I think it may be round ligament pain but it’s lasted all week! I’d didn’t get out of bed for 2 days! Has anyone experienced round ligament pain to this extent?
I had really bad round ligament pain last week for 2-3 days. I aggravated something working out and it was crazy pain on the sides of my stomach. I happened to have an on appointment during that and the dr was unconcerned. But I was hunched over using a heating pad for those days
I overdid it moving car seats around and lugging children the other day and had really bad pain radiating from my left side along the bottom of my belly. If it's one side or the other (or both) it's usually RLP. If it's in the middle or you feel like your hips are out of alignment it's more likely to be SPD. RLP usually will dissipate after moving around and stretching, although sometimes it requires a little more care with heat and possibly medication to ease off

I currently have covid and just came back from the emergency room. I have shortness of breath and chest pain, those are the two main symptoms they are concerned about. I was checked right away, received an ultrasound and sent home. I’m doing okay, stay stress free and continue being safe!
Have you guys started registries yet? My baby shower won’t be until October, but we just found out the gender (boy! ahhh!) and I’m so excited to start buying things that I just impulsively started a registry at Target. It looks pretty nice and I was able to find everything that we need so far, but I was wondering if other people have had good experiences with it?
@manta_ray I have not. But I am anxious to start my registry too but don’t even know where to start. But I would also love to hear what kinds of things and brands that other people have on their registries!
I started my registry super early because I couldn't wait, my main registry is on Amazon. I found their checklist very helpful for figuring out what categories of things to add.
We aren’t making a registry since this is number 3. But I have a list made on amazon and target of the few basic things we do need to purchase (pacifiers, bassinet sheets, diapers, diaper cream, reusable nursing pads, etc.)
We’re not having a shower or sharing a registry with anyone since this is our fourth but I made a private registry on Amazon for the completion discounts lol you get two 15% off discounts to use. You can add a ton of non baby related stuff to your registry. I figured I’ll get a few things we need for baby and do Christmas shopping. You also get a free gift box with some samples and baby items.
First (and only) baby. I think we'll have a co-ed shower since many of our friends are the same and both genders. After 18 years, some of my closest friends are male and I don't want to exclude them. Most of our friends are a bit older than us and have high school (or older) kids and grandkids so we're seeking practical advice about what items you couldn't live without, instead of "buy us everything" type mentality. Clutter and buying stuff just to buy stuff stresses me out so I am trying to covey this message nicely.
I was not planning to do a registry since this is my second, but I keep getting asked when our "sprinkle" will be. I hadn't even known that was a thing! I have a list started on Amazon, but sounds like I should make a registry for discounts. I may then share it with the people who ask about getting something for baby.
I started working in a daycare a few months before getting pregnant. Ever since, I've been getting sick every two to three weeks. Mainly the common cold but I've had a couple of fevers. I end up cancelling most of my plans due to illness. I'm starting to consider quitting the job - DH earns the majority of our income, and I worry that all these colds and bugs are harming the baby!
I'm talking about it with my doc and family, but, for you - when is enough enough? Expecting mums working in childcare and preschools, how do you survive? I miss taking oregano oil and echinacea. They used to really help!
You will not cause any harm to fetus as it is protected by amniotic fluid and not to mention youre actual uterus. If you are comfortable, have at it and have fun! baby is fine!
@allie1365 That sounds super tough. TBH I know 2 moms in a similar position who did leave their EC job when they were pregnant/had a tiny baby. The baby is usually fine during pregnancy with colds etc., but you do need to be extra cautious close to your due date as a flu or something more serious can link to early labor. Don't quote me on this, but talk to your doc about the actual risks. Especially with all of us being due in cold/flu season it is important to think about.
I also work with young kids and it has been relentless as far as illnesses go this past year. I think the only thing that has helped is that I wear a mask all of the time, but honestly it is so hard to do so. Plus, we did covid testing all the time so I didn't feel at risk in that respect. We also sent kids home if they were even the slightest bit sick and had lots of ventilation in the rooms. Would it be possible to put up a baby gate rather than shutting a door? Other than that get all your shots (vaccines) that they recommend and just generally take care of yourself.
This might be an unpopular opinion, but I never had a registry. Honestly, for our first we just bought some cloth diapers, someone gave us a bouncer, and we got a bunch of used baby clothes at a garage sale. I did have a shower, but at my request there were no gifts. Instead people brought things that meant something special about their transition to motherhood. For example, a friend brought the candle that she had burned in the room while giving birth or another brought a birth necklace.
This time around I am thinking of being more specific about the fact that I would prefer meals/grocery shopping/kid help/baby holding rather than any gifts.
I made an Amazon registry but literally no one bought off of it. The people who bought us stuff just bought what they wanted and everyone else gave money. My MIL had a huge baby shower for us for my son, which sadly I couldn't attend, and we got like $700. That was really helpful because we wound up needing newborn clothes that we weren't expecting and an electric pump.

I have a daughter that will be 5 years 3 months when the baby is born. Don’t know gender yet of baby - but looking for experiences of having a 5 year old and baby share a room. We are thinking for a few years before we transition the house. Baby would be in my room for first 3 months or so.
I’ve been walking daily and doing simple hand weights for arms and squats/lunges for legs. Has anyone used a support belt later on in pregnancy? Now that my belly is popping I’m wondering if it would be helpful during my walks for supporting my belly and back. Ideally I’ll continue my walks through this whole pregnancy. With my last two kiddos I gave up after a while because of swelling in my feet and ankles and just being uncomfortable.
Unless your 5yo is a very sound sleeper and the baby always sleeps through the night, you’re doing her and you a disservice. She will not get enough sleep/will be woken by baby crying which isn’t good for her own growth and you will have a grumpy 5yo on your hands. I suggest keeping baby in your room until it sleeps through the night. If you will be BF or feeding before 6/7am, baby shouldn’t be in room with 5yo.

Positive experiences? Ways to make it work?
It’s probably doable but will be challenging. We were in a one bedroom, so all of us including my husband and I in one room, when my second was born. I think kids do get used to stuff pretty quickly. They adjust to the normal noises and will go back to sleep. We never had a problem with our then 2yo being woken up or overly disturbed.
@allie1365 I don't work in a daycare/preschool setting but my son is finishing up his first year of preschool. We've been sick nearly every other week. It's been so tough! Baby won't be harmed by it. It's just extra exhausting to be pregnant and sick all the time lol.
@lilswed Speaking from experience if there is any way to have the baby stay in your room and dd stay in another it will make it much easier. For a year I slept in a separate room with baby and dh slept in dd's room. It is super hard, but not as hard as having baby wake everyone up esp. if dd is in school and needs to be rested. It was hard to do, but now we are all back in one room (we have a giant family bed) and sleeping separately seems like a distant memory.
@ponyoisfun we have a bassinet that we were going to keep with us until baby is ready to transition.
Our first had major heart surgery as a baby and we didn’t live at home with her until she was a few months- she was fed with a tube and never woke up in the night…. So this feels like first time parenting- not certain what to expect.
@lilswed It so unpredictable about the temperament of the baby and how the other children will react.
Question for the crowd- Has anyone else had a SCH that was only detected by u/s? Did it resolve? They just found one yesterday and although they say it is very small it could be why I have felt more cramping during this pregnancy than others.
@ponyoisfun I had one that bled a little at first and that’s how I got it diagnosed with an US at the ER. It resolved itself within a few weeks and I took it easy. 0 complications.
@ponyisfun I had 2 small SCH in my first trimester. I went to the doc for some (super light) spotting and got diagnosed after having an ultrasound. No one was too concerned about it, they just told me to just do what I normally do and refrain from sex for at least a few days after spotting stopped. It resolved itself and at this point we have no complications
@sunshine2417 and @manta_ray thank you for sharing your experiences. It really helps me stay calm. I had actually blacked out when I was reading about it online I was so freaked out. Thank goodness dh was right there with me. Yesterday the mw said if only she had the power to disable Dr google on pregnant ladies phones 🤣.
Question for the crowd- I am 18w5d and my one nipple has started leaking colostrum. All day yesterday my boobs were achey, and even lopsided, which I thought was odd for my body. Last night I was with some friends when I realized my one nipple began leaking through my dress (I wasn’t wearing a bra). I looked it up and it seems to be totally normal which gave me some relief, but it also seems so early to already be leaking. Is anyone else experiencing this, or has anyone experienced this earlier in pregnancy?
@ponyoisfun I have a small one they found at my 8 week ultra sound. I’ve had no spotting or bleeding. Dr was unconcerned. I’m curious if it’s still there when I have my anatomy scan on the 1st.
I am having the same issue. Just the most random waves of nausea. This past week my husband has had to finish cooking dinner because I feel so sick. He even had to bring me crackers to nibble on while laying down because it got so bad.
Maternity/ nursing bra recommendations anyone?? I'm quickly outgrowing my bras and the Maternity ones I've tried have either been terribly uncomfortable or have next to no lining and the nips are out of control.
@themrsjacoby With my first two I got bravado nursing bras. Comfy and held up. This time ordered this one on amazon to try out. I haven’t washed it yet but just trying it on it felt like butter on my skin.
Hi everyone! I’m furiously working on my registry, and can not decide on a stroller. I’m a FTM and would like a travel system of some sort. I like the ones that come with a car seat and a toddler seat that can face front or back, but I know some don’t fold with the seat facing the parent, which would be a pain. Any recommendations?
@ponyoisfun please don’t freak yourself out about the SCH! I had one and bled a lot/cramping and it’s since passed and is no longer showing up on my ultrasound. I was so worried for no reason, and a lot of it was due to googling haha
