Re: The Great Big Question Thread

  • @cheesecurd13 I’m so sorry to hear that, Living with pain is so draining!  I hope the physical therapy helps!

My pain isn’t that bad but I’ve been having bad back pain and by the end of my last pregnancy it was so hard to move/go on even a 1 block walk.    I’m really hoping the physical therapy helps.

  • @baby-h2022 we do a zip up bassinet in our room (we have cats) for the first 4-6 months and then transition baby to their room to a full size crib. I'd keep them in our room longer but between the cats and our other kids we all get better sleep this way. We also have a pack n play for traveling

@chuckle_sandwich I've also started feeling braxton hicks when I overdo it. I don't remember this happening until the third trimester with my first two so it's been interesting having it happen so early this time.
  • @cheesecurd13 I’m sorry you’re in so much pain. Pregnancy has been tough on me physically, as well. Unsolicited advice - does your pt specialize in pregnancy? I switched from a back PT to a pelvic floor PT who also does regular PT and it’s been a game changer!
  • @cheesecurd13 I second what @rebeccahoo12345 said. I see a PT that specializes in PT for women and PT during pregnancy. They are actually connected with my OBs office. It's a game-changer.
  • Yes I am going to a PT that specializes in pelvic floor and im so excited! I saw the chiropractor yesterday but he said it will take a while for my hips to feel much better. But we are on the mend and I'm hopeful for good results!
  • @cheesecurd13 yes to the pain! This is my third pregnancy and I haven’t experienced anything like this, even by the end of my previous pregnancies. I
have diastasis recti as well as SPD. I started using a pelvic girdle support belt, which has helped a lot. I work 12’s on my feet the whole time and don’t think I will be making it as far as I wanted before maternity leave 😩 I hope you find some relief with PT!
  • I'm actually thinking that I'm going to have to do some PT again this pregnancy. I got lucky and didn't have much pain with my last pregnancy, but with my first I had bad pain (it wasn't said at the time but I recently learned it was likely SPD). My hips have been very achy already, and when I woke up this morning and could barely walk because of the pain.

24 weeks, first baby. Just started feeling some belly stretching. I probably don’t look different to the outside world but I absolutely notice a difference. Some days it feels more uncomfortable than others, but I don’t think it’s the round ligament pain. Above my belly button/belly button area will sometimes feel tight and the feeling of being stretched. (It is, especially with baby #1) Anyone else feel the ‘stretching’ or tightness sometimes?
  • @ravenhairedgirl83 I am having them same going on. The area above my belly button is hard and tight sometimes and other times it’s not and I look oddly shaped. She moves around so much in there and stretches out so the area shifts a lot. Today it’s all lower. Yesterday it was all high. My only problem I am having with it is it gets uncomfortable and sometimes I just look like I am fat. But I have noticed on the days I look like I am fluffy and not pregnant she is more towards my back and I have back pain.
  • Has anyone had any issues w/ strange parts tingling?  It almost feels like my face and neck are asleep, they're tingling and just feels SO strange.  Wasn't really doing anything in particular to cause like a nerve thing to happen, blood pressure and everything else check out fine.  Strangest thing I've experienced I think, really hoping I'm not alone lol
  • Is everyone’s kicking quite regular now? I’ve hardly felt baby boy move today and it’s making me nervous. Is that normal at 25 weeks?

@rebeccahoo12345   I'm 24 weeks and it varies so much day to day!  Last Sunday baby was kicking so much others in the room could see movement.  The next day, I didn't feel a thing.  So strange, but I trust our little ones have sleepy lazy days just like we do!
  • @rebeccahoo12345 There are days I feel her quite often and then days when I don't. Yesterday was a day where I basically only felt her in the evening. I think one of the reasons I feel her as often as I do is that she seems to get hiccups quite often lol. Not sure I'd feel as much without those hiccups!

  • @rebeccahoo12345 I'm 24 weeks today and have been regularly feeling her move for about a week and a half now. I was worried yesterday because I didn't feel her much but today she's bopping around like crazy! I can tell that she changed position because the movements were previously all on the left and now they're in center and right, and a bit muffled by my placenta. I believe most doctors don't have you start doing kick counts for another few weeks because movement can be so unpredictable at this point.
  • Question to those taking iron supplements: my OB just had me start taking them this week every other day for now, today was the second one, and my stomach is NOT happy about it. Is that something I can expect to even out or should I take it not on an empty stomach?
  • @fantasyflyte take it with a meal and if you can with some orange juice, it'll help you to absorb it better

  • @fantasyflyte yes to on a full stomach, not with dairy products as vitamin D inhibits absorption. If you can’t stomach orange juice, take it with something rich in vitamin C or a supplement. It can also bind you up, so plan on lots of fluid and high fiber foods.

So I got a jury duty summons. Has anyone gotten excused for being in their third trimester? Plus what about exposure to covid later in pregnancy? I’ve read you’re at higher risk for getting seriously ill, or for preterm labor and even a small possibility of stillbirth. I don’t know about you all, if I wasn’t pregnant it wouldn’t be an issue, but I feel really nervous and anxious since I will be further along in pregnancy and don’t want to risk my baby.

@chuckle_sandwich I received a summons for during the time I was 38ish weeks with my first. They didn’t excuse me even though I noticed them I would be having him at 37 weeks 🙄 I needed a drs note.
I wouldn’t be comfortable going with covid increasing again and monkeypox on the rise. Write a letter asking to be excused and if they deny, ask your OB for a note
  • @chuckle_sandwich I believe you can also ask for a continuance for jury summons due to medical reasons and then if you get resummoned shortly after baby is born you can get excused if you don’t have childcare.
  • Thanks ladies. If for some reason I don’t get excused I’ll just make sure to show up with my heavy duty n95 mask and my giant water bottle and snacks with my obviously visible pregnant belly, lol. In the last two weeks my belly grew like crazy and I look way more that 25 weeks, hah!
  • @themrsjacoby I've had my legs tingle a few times!

@rebeccahoo12345 kicks are sporadic around here as well. Some days I feel him kick a ton and others I feel barely any movement and get nervous.
  • I had AWFUL SI joint pain and literally couldn’t walk for like a week straight. Per doctor’s recommendation I got this support belt on Amazon and used it during a yoga class, then on a 3 mile walk the next day, and by the 3rd day legit the pain was gone. I haven’t used it since, though I did tweak the joint a little yesterday while twisting to yell at kids in the backseat, so I may be pulling it back out. Anyways, all this to say, buy the belt if you have any hip issues! It feels SO amazing on the hips!!!

  • @sunshine2417 that’s so good to hear that that is working!  I’ve been doing PT for si joint /hip/glute pain. I got a different belt from the physical therapist, but I think it’s been working too. Not super comfortable-better over clothes but ugly.  Still having pain, doing exercises for it  but I think it’s getting better! Maternity Si-Loc Maternity Support Size Small Medium

  • Totally random, maybe TMI, but during  my last pregnancy I bought a “squatty potty”   When the belly starts to get in the way this helps make BMs a lot more comfortable.  The belly doesn’t let me lean forward in the toilet (legs pretty short) but the little foot stool squatty potty helps a lot.

My other favorite  purchase  for when it’s regular shoe/boot season was a long -(20-ish inch) shoe horn.   Way easier to put boots on when you don’t have to bend over. Or even sit.
  • Hi all! I’m 27 weeks today and in the past week I’ve developed an extremely itchy rash on my legs and arms. The bumps are spread out pretty randomly from about 4” above my knees to the top of my foot, on both legs and a few on each arm. I know rashes during pregnancy can be fairly common, but I’m already having serious trouble sleeping due to hip pain so this is an added complication that’s making me pretty miserable. One possible diagnosis is prurigo of pregnancy? But I don’t know for sure what this is. …anyone else out there have experience with this or advice??

I had PUPPPS during my last pregnant, it didn’t start until 37ish weeks. It started on my belly and spread to the rest of my body. Talk to your Ob asap about possible causes.
  • @knottiea45758c50d15d7dd
so sorry you are going through all this.
When I had my first my husband started going blind and ended up having a corneal transplant during the pregnancy- that same week we found out that our baby would be born with a heart defect that she may or may not survive from… I was so nervous that the stress, taking care of husband, working to pay bills would make things worse too. You are taking the right steps to get help. I had to say no to a lot of things, had to learn to lean into friends and any family, community (it was a church small group that helped me out) and most importantly tried to make self care a priority. It is not ideal, but we are 5 years out from it and doing okay. Give yourself grace, keep communicating with DH. Hope all goes well.
  • Anyone else feel like they’ve hit the huffing and puffing a lot stage?
  • @sara12341234 yep! So much so that everyone in this house thinks that I am breathing heavy with an attitude when they are talking to me and I’m like nope just walked from the coffee pot to the sink. And if I put shoes on it takes a hot minute between shoes and then to get up.
  • @sara12341234 Yes! Everything feels so compressed it's hard to take a full deep breath. Walking the dog a few blocks has turned into a full out cardio experience.
  • @sara12341234 yes lol. I tend to sigh or yawn when I need a full breath and my hubby is always like "why are you sighing? Are you tired?"

Definitely . I feel very weak and I hate it 😭. I’m supposed to be a strong person.  Time for more exercise I suppose.
  • @sara12341234 Oh yes! Getting on pants or shoes leaves me out of breath. Walking even short distances. I can't get full breaths anymore. My lungs have no where to go.
  • Has anyone had to deal with a fetal heart arrythmia? My doctor is sending me to a specialist tomorrow, she said it's super normal, but I would love to hear others experiences.
  • Has anyone been getting migraines? I usually get one a year but have gotten three in the past two weeks. Any tips on how to avoid them besides relaxing, looking away from computer, and hydrating?
  • Where do you feel baby kicks? I’m 27 weeks today and still only feel them really low towards my bladder. At what point does the baby turn? Clearly she is still in a breech position.

If your placenta is in the front it would be typically to feel movements only lower or to the sides. Babies do gymnastics until much closer to your due date, I wouldn’t worry about them being breach until later into the third trimester!
