Anyone else 35 or older? I wasn't last time so I'm curious what a "geriatric" pregnancy might mean in terms of monitoring or other stuff. Do they count it as high risk just for being over 35?

  • @claireloSC I'm AMA, but this is my first, so I don't have any insight to provide.

  • @claireloSC I'm glad to have someone else in a similar boat! 🙂
  • Thank you so much @herewegoagain3rd ! I have a lot of issues going on too, so I think I'm going to see a MFM specialist to get an opinion once I graduate from the IVF doctor. I had several complications with DD and some previous surgeries that might also be an issue so hoping to get an opinion on whether I need anything extra monitoring.

  • @claireloSC I was at a RE with my last one too. I was getting US every week. When I graduated I was going to my OB and MFM. I had to have several US because of the Sixth Disease. And then they started weekly US again I think around 30-32 weeks. It was great seeing him so much!
  • When do people usually tell their boss they are pregnant? I have a pretty good relationship with my boss. He has 4 young kids himself and his wife works full-time so I think he'll be understanding.  I just want to give enough time so he can coordinate a backup and we can get them trained. I went on vacation a week ago and the whole plant freaked out, so I am hoping to help set them up better for a 12 week leave.
  • It definitely varies. The last time I got a new job at 8 weeks so I told them during the hiring process so they didn't get mad they hired a pregnant lady and negotiated my leave as well. I think most people wait until at least 12 weeks, so they don't have to share in the event of a MC. Some wait as long as 20 weeks after they get the all clear from the 20 week ultrasound that checks for more serious issues. 20 weeks seems adequate to me personally, and I'm leaning towards that since I'm WFH and won't need accommodations most likely so don't see a real reason to give them more notice. @kding If they would need to hire a replacement (rather than just leave your job empty) I would lean more towards the 12 week side because it often takes longer than 3 or 4 months to hire people in my experience.

  • Are you guys feeling crampy? It happened after a workout and I don't think I overdid it, but also don't think it could be implantation cramps more than two weeks later? Makes me a bit nervous.

  • @claireloSC Yes! It's funny because I literally just had a follow up call with my RE this morning, and he specifically told me not to worry about cramps unless they are severe and progressively worse (not just off and on). I have felt crampy most days since my BFP, so it's nice to hear that reassurance.
  • @shoogapoff That's reassuring, thank you!

  • @claireloSC I get cramps on and off all day. Every once in a while it will be slightly painful but most are like a mild period cramp or full feeling.
  • Okay, here is a question, I know it is WAY to early to feel anything, but every once in a while I will feel a fluttering. What is that?? Is it gas? It does feel a lot like the first movement feeling but I know it isn't.
  • @herewegoagain3rd I would have to guess gas, I don't see what else it could be? Or maybe you're feeling LO growing and instead of cramps it feels like flutters or something?
    Baby Birthday Ticker TickerMarried DW <3 08.2013; AI 2x; IUI 6x; IUI #7 05.2015; DD born 2.2016 o:); Reciprocal IVF FET #1 on 11.18.2020
  • @claireloSC Yes, I was a little crampy after working out too.  I have a Peloton and have been really nervous about working out... even though I see pregnant women on the Peloton FB page working out all the time.  But I definitely got crampy after I rode and I was holding back.  I've been crampy on and off and I feel like it has to do with how I'm sitting or what I'm sitting on.  I have a nerve issue in my lower back so sometimes I also cant tell if it's really cramping or radiating pain from my back.
But a little cramping is definitely normal.  I've had it with all of my pregnancies.

  • I feel eerily unpregnant. No cramps, no spotting, no nausea, maybe a little tired and a bit of an off taste. Still awaiting lab results and my stomach is in knots. A few weeks ago if you'd asked I would have laughed at the idea of being pregnant right now. I mean, this pandemic has upended our lives in so many ways. But now the idea of a loss... it's just this terrible sinking feeling.
  • @mamabirdlonging I wouldn't worry about it too much.  With my daughter I felt terrible, but it didnt start until 6ish weeks.  Have you called to find out what your second beta was?  They may have it and are just waiting for the drs approval before they give it to you.  How far along are you again?

  • @ladyk127 I think I am 4 weeks 6 days. This was according to OPK. I will call. Just don't want to be a bother to the nurses. Was hoping I'd hear by now.
  • Ugh. Why can't I tag people properly? Am I doing something wrong?
  • Well, hcg was either 2567 or 2867. I was so flustered I can't be sure. Either way it didn't double. They did not order a third test. Just an ultrasound at 6 weeks. I just feel it's bad news.
  • I know it's a bit early, but I'm concerned about COVID. Anyone know if pregnancy counts towards an ADA accommodation?
  • @sayrian I don't but I know that my teacher friends all have gotten work from home authorization due to being pregnant during Covid. In NYC and NJ.

  • @mamabirdlonging Are you posting from your phone?  When I use the computer and type the @ and someone's name I get a drop down to choose from.  I'll pray you get some good news at your 6 weeks ultrasound.  All of this waiting is the hardest part.

  • @ashleyhj29 I spotted the entire first trimester with my daughter.  Brown, every day, all day.
That was following two losses so I get how nerve wracking it can be.
It's hard to relax when that is happening, but my daughter was fine.  Standing here drawing all over her face with a red marker.

@mamabirdlonging Stay positive! Can you call back and insist on a third test?

@mamabirdlonging I feel the same way! Nothing to note I'm pregnant but a missing period and a little more tired than normal.  I haven't had any blood tests done, so I'm just waiting until my ultrasound on the 22nd.  I hope you get good news!
  • I’ve had brown spotting for 10 days. US was great! Had a little red spotting for an hour. When does the spotting stop? Makes me nervous. I’m 6w2d

  • @ashleyhj29 I had spotting off and on through the whole first trimester with my first baby.  I called the nurses line like 5 times and cried a lot because I was SO worried.  No one ever gave me an explanation.  He's a happy healthy 5 year old now!
  • Has anyone else had babies super close together? I’m 38, and my older two kids are 12 and 8. My youngest is 6 months and I’m 6w1d (according to LMP). Somehow I’m already showing. It’s more than the usual 1st trimester bloat and I haven’t gained any weight. It’s not possible for me to be further along other than a few days. Is this because my muscles haven’t had a chance to fully heal and go back? 😳😬
  • @elliey42 It's just muscles:)

    **TW**

I had a 14 week loss followed by a 10 week loss and then got pregnant with my rainbow right away...so basically I looked 3 months pregnant right from the start:/
  • @elliey42 I'm a third timer, my first two are 15 months apart in age so I was right about in your shoes. I think I looked pregnant instantly but I'm sure others didn't see it as soon.
  • Ladies...I had a miscarriage Tuesday morning. Started spotting red last Monday night, no cramps, but when I woke up Tuesday morning I felt a gush and I passed some tissue. My US showed a completely empty uterus...just days after seeing a heartbeat. Doing IVF, it was a genetically normal embryo...not sure why this would happen?
We found out it was a girl and my doctor confirmed that what I passed was the sac. I didn't have any pain or cramping. Such a bummer...I would be 7 weeks Friday...when they took my bloodwork on Tuesday, my HCG was 6549...I feel like that's low for 27 dpo or 6w4d...

  • @ashleyhj29 I am so so sorry for your loss
  • Any teachers here? What is your plan? How are you feeling? Anyone have outside duties? How do you feel about those right now or being around kids whose masks are constantly slipping? I dont want to be a burden to the school but I also want to feel safe
  • @kiwimangohoneylemon I'm a high school teacher in a high risk area in Canada. I'm actually lucky that I'm still on mat leave (I took the full 18 months we have available to us) and I go back to work January 4th. I applied for a family status accommodation through my board to teach remotely from my home for this school year, so I don't have to actually enter a classroom. I have all grade 12s next semester anyways so remote learning is much easier than with littles. My grade 1 daughter is remote learning this year too. And then I'll hopefully be back on mat leave starting in August for another 18 months and I'm crossing everything that things will be back to normal by the time this next mat leave is up...which would be February 2023. If I didn't get the accommodation my ob would have likely put me on medical leave for the semester anyways as I'm already high risk without covid:/
  • Wow I am still trying to process the 18th months of mat leave
  • @kiwimangohoneylemon Yeah we're really lucky with our mat leave here!
