@shamrocandroll yuuuup. We live on 80 acres and there was already an empty pen, but I am 100% with you. DH and I had talked about adding a couple ponies and another horse in later once we were good and settled and this LO was older.... not months before I give birth and have 4 aged 5 and under.
Unrelated: anyone’s LO do summer sports? DD1 is signed up for spring soccer since she liked fall soccer last season. DH wants to try t-ball this summer but I’m a bit nervous with doing sports while having a newborn.
@ruby696 DS was diagnosed a few days before he turned 3 so I think 3-5 is pretty typical, as long as they're showing obvious signs anyways.
@TattoosandLace my DS has ASD and I've heard that eliminating red dye is good for outbursts, we just haven't tried it personally due to him being super picky. Luckily, these days there are so many resources and Diagnosis does not necessarily mean meds, in our case it meant options. We got an IEP, in home support and special education. We've been struggling with outbursts lately and a few things have helped like foam rolling pins (he lays down and we roll it up and down his body), compression, weighted blankets, wearing a heavy backpack and things like that. Most of his fits stem from his communication issues or changes in his normal routine so this might not help you, but helping with communication like offering new signs to get his point across or trying to stick to a routine have been helping. Sending lots of supportive vibes, I feel you on the struggles, sister and I hope the diet change helps your LO
Eta to add you are not doing anything wrong. Your acknowledging that there is an issue and your willingness to do what she needs to help her, show just how good of a parent you are. This too shall pass ❤
@TattoosandLace yes we have Tball from April-June so I am sure I will be a joyous person to be around then, make sure you get a good and comfy chair to sit in! And then August starts football which I am sure will again be so much fun this year...
@TattoosandLace I understand that now is not the right time for a new animal, (Especially without plans or permission) but I soooooo want a mini burro. We don’t have enough land at this time so it’s gotta wait. I’m planning on adding a few more chickens this spring, but the timing of it is like right when baby is due, so I’m not convinced I can pull it off. I do not want a brooder in the house!
@pirateduck DH is all for wanting chickens, and I wouldn’t mind them either since we blow through eggs here...but I’m secretly terrified of them and someone else would have to gather the eggs. Lol I will roll with the punches on “Molly” the mule. DD1 is in love and she feeds her every day as part of her chores (with DH so it’s not like she’s doing it solo). Just made us up the timeframe of moving DH’s horse to this 80acres so she has a friend here.
@ruby696 I can’t imagine what wrangling twins is like during sports season. You’re super mom.
@mamaj1220 good thinking on the chair!! I’m trying to decide if a travel system is a better idea or just skip the stroller and use one of those collapsible wagons for the other three kids that aren’t playing the sport. If I do the latter, I’d probably baby wear more.
@TattoosandLace I will only have the newborn and the six year old but I’m planning on baby wearing just because I don’t want people in his face and I feel like people are much less likely to try to be when he’s on me vs in the stroller.
@TattoosandLace Wow, yeah, buying animals without consulting isn't cool at all.
That being said, I don't think I would flip if I had 80 acres. I want a horse again so bad. Actually probably 2 horses, 2 ponies. My very first horse was a pony, but I was 23 years old. I'm petite and as an adult can ride bigger ponies. I'd love if in 3 years my husband and I could go for a ride each with a smaller kid on our horse with us, and our oldest on a pony with us. If only.
I hope Molly ends up a blessing. But still dumb that you weren't consulted.

I totally want to sign my then 4 year old for dance this summer. I'm a little afraid of doing it with the other 2 under 2, but I really think he'd love it and benefit.

@splashmountain thank you so much for your kind words! it really has felt like we’ve been failing her the past few months. I think we will be discussing it with her doctor at her well check next week.
I’m a bit late to the discussion but I totally believe dietary changes can help behavior, not just for kids on the spectrum or with other sensory issues but for any kid, or anyone really. Now it’s not some magic cure, but I think it can help.
Our food now a days is so adulterated and even if stuff is government/FDA approved we just don’t know for sure yet how things are truly effecting us.
For myself, I did my first Whole30 back in 2014 and was probably eating only just a little better than the standard American diet prior. It was amazing the difference in so many things (sleep, mood, cognition, etc) just by cleaning up my foods for 30 days. Ever since then I’ve slowly cleaned up the regular things I buy and generally eat a more paleo/Whole30 or whole real foods style diet. I’m definitely not on point 100%, but still try to do better overall.
As for DD, we kept any and all added sugar away from her until she was around 1.5 years old. She is almost 3.5 now and we still try and avoid a lot of added sugar and she rarely gets treats. but man, when she does get some ice cream, cake, cookies or the like she is bouncing off the wall and does not listen well. It is amazing how much even a small amount of sugar can effect her behavior.
@mamaj1220 We have school(work) today too. The only 3 day weekend we got for my first 6 years in this district was memorial day (and Veteran's if it fell correctly). We didn't even get civil rights day off. Our new super came in and thought that was crazy so now we get those and civil rights day. A 3 day weekend would make weeks like this so much more bearable. We do have our winter break next week though so I guess I shouldn't complain too much.
@mamaj1220 my 1 hour test was at 1:30 in the afternoon on a day I worked. I totally feel you. I didn't know how I was going to survive when I normally eat a huge lunch around noon. Hang in there
@TattoosandLace I was going to ask the same thing. I don't think Civil Rights Day is a federal holiday so I don't expect things to be closed.
I have the day off and slept until 10. Then DH called he was on his way home from work early because he has someone coming over to buy a car trailer from out of state and he brought me lunch on the way home. He was amazed I slept until 10 (I went to bed by like 10:30 last night), but maybe now he believes how exhausted I am lol. He was actually great all weekend though letting me sleep in Saturday & Sunday and getting breakfast both days so hopefully he won't kill my day off all alone vibe today. Maybe he'll actually want to help do some housework and I'll sit with my feet up watching tv? Unlikely, but I can dream.
Doing some google research as I believe I was talking about this with a co-worker recently. I guess Civil Rights Day is celebrated in 2 states in lieu of (or in conjunction with) MLK day, which is a Federal Holiday.
