Re: Weekly Randoms 2/3/20

  • @modoodles omg I'm dying at those stories. Also jealous of those of you growing up who apparently weren't forced to wear the awful matching leggings/shirt combos of the 90's.

  • @modoodles I'm literally laughing out loud in a room full of quiet people. Hahah. Those are good.
@bluguitarhannah I'm just picturing the teacher's stash of your socks that your mom left her haha.

I literally just told the educator at daycare this morning "sorry she doesn't have her shoes on, she doesn't like me anymore". While she was in the educator's arms I was also putting her hair in a ponytail. It's been such a battle these days getting her dressed.. sigh.
  • @modoodles bahahaha... dead! Those stories are hysterical.
  • y'all... my friend just told me that someone on her BMB just posted a photo of her stitched up ute right after her CS. WTF?! Whoooooo posts that?!
  • @blaf322 That'd be a hard no for me.  I'm still working up to a picture fully clothed of my bump.  What the mess.
  • @blaf322 that is really bizarre but now I want to see it 😂
  • @modoodles bahaha... me too :D She didn't share though, I think, b/c shes super grossed out by it lol
  • @blaf322 I just got queasy even reading that. No thank you.

@modoodles hahaha that's hilarious. we have so much to look forward to!

I love little kid stories. My favorite one from my aunt was when her girls were like 7, 5, and 3 or something. The oldest has always been a bit sassy and I guess she was mouthing off to her sisters in the back of the car while they were going somewhere. My aunt said, "Audra, if you say one more word you're going to be in time out when we get home" and Audra smugly looked at her in the mirror, crossed her arms, and said "WORD". I always wished she kept some sort of blog of the hilarious things they said/still say now that the oldest is 14!
  • @bluguitarhannah you with socks was me with underwear  :D every chance I got I took it off, I hated the tags. My mom and grandma always had to carry extra around in their purse because inevitably they would find out that we were out somewhere and I didn’t have panties on.
  • Am I crazy to fly by myself at 28 weeks with an almost two year old across country? She is a very good flyer, she’s been on a plane every few months since birth. I live across the country from my family and it is my cousin’s baby shower (who is my best friend). I can’t decide if I should bring her or go alone. My family only gets to see her when I bring her back East.
  • @kc0711 I definitely think I would do it. But maybe I am crazy as well haha.
  • @kc0711 if you're both that experienced with traveling, I think it would be fine. I live far from family too, so I wouldn't want them to miss out on another chance to see her. Plus you'll probably have to do minimal parenting that weekend with being around family!
  • @stlbuckeye132 😂 I ended up ordering 3 pairs of pocket pants last night, and sent DS to daycare in ones he wore on Monday after the sniff test. Successful morning at the Cookies household.
  • @blaf322 talk about an over share 🙈. That kind of/sort of reminds me of a story a friend shared with me. Basically, someone she knows is having a baby girl. They have the ultrasound showing the girl parts and grandma got her hands on it. Grandma’s FB profile picture is now the ultrasound photo of her future granddaughters labia. Complete with a flowery pink banner saying “It’s A Girl!!!”
I really hope that Grandma just doesn’t realize what the photo is actually showing and this isn’t on purpose 😂

@kc0711 I say do it! If she’s already got experience flying, then why not. Half of parenting requires being just a little bit crazy anyway. Plus, who knows when the next you’ll get to do that will be?
  • @kristinl492 omg that grandma! :joy: I have to believe she doesn't realize what the photo is showing...
  • I got Boston Market for lunch. I don't think I've had it in the last 5+ years. We will see whether it was a good decision or not...
  • You guys know that scene in the grinch.. "Hate, Hate, Hate...Double Hate..LOATHE ENTIRELY" well, that's me with baby names. I have some that I don't hate, but I also don't love them. This baby will never have a name. And I know we still have time, but we started this list a year ago.
  • @modoodles lol yes I know that scene and read it in Jim Carrey's voice 😂

Also I feel the same but more that I'm just.... fine with a LOT of names but don't LOVE any and I want to LOVE them. Team green, we have a list of like 20+ boy and girl named each and DH is not at all helpful in my attempts to whittle it down...bah
  • @modoodles 😂🤣 the cat! My girls are 3 and 5 and they’re constantly telling on each other. I feel like it’s always something silly and I have said many times quit talking to each other and go in a different room. I feel like the couple times you say that they’re actually wanting to tell for a good reason. Never fails lol

  • @modoodles I feel like I’ll be typing “what Boy name goes well with DS’ name” into google to come up with some ideas because I’m also stuck. DS has a strong tradition name, so I feel like we need to stick with the theme.
  • @hbird0723 oh man, absolutely never fails! I'll tell you the worst though. My daughter was about 5 and she was SO dramatic. She's the child that will stub her toe and then drag her leg for a week. Have a bandaid on and cry every time she looks at it- even if it's two days later.. I learned not to show too much sympathy/concern because it made everything 100 times worse. One time we were heading to the store (half hour drive) and right before getting in the car she told me a fly bit her. I looked, didn't see any bites/stings at all. I told her to wipe it off, it would be fine. She whines for about 15 minutes in the car and I finally told her if she didn't stop whining I would have to leave her on the side of the road and pick her up again after Walmart, because they don't let whining in the store.  She stopped. 🤷‍♀️ Then we got to walmart, I go to unbuckle her from her carseat and she is COVERED in hives. Sooo much mom guilt. I was dosing her with benadryl in the aisle. Man I felt bad! I had threatened to leave her on the side of the road! 😬😂😂😂
  • @modoodles hahaha I relate to that scene so hard for many things in life. Even more appropriate for baby names. I’m super picky and finding it hard to settle on a name for this little guy!
  • @modoodles oh your poor DD! But you couldn't have known if you checked her over and all looked fine! I broke my wrist at a friend's house in 3rd grade, but I didn't want to cause a scene at her house, so I didn't mention my wrist hurting like crazy and didn't cry. As soon as they dropped me off at home (like an hour later), I burst into tears and told my parents my wrist hurt so bad and I thought it was broken. I was also somewhat dramatic as a child, so my mom was like, "oh you were perfectly fine at their house but now all of a sudden it's a problem?" *eyeroll* We were about to go to a pro basketball game as a family, so my mom told me that we were going, and if my wrist was broken then it would still be broken in the morning and she'd take me in the next day. (Fully believing I was fine and just would maybe have a bruise on my wrist.) Luckily my dad took pity on me, called his doctor brother who walked him through some things to check with my movement, and then my dad took me to the hospital while my mom took everyone else to the game. Sure enough, it was broken! I still remind her of how neglectful she was as a mother. :joy:
  • @modoodles and @stlbuckeye132 lol your stories are cracking me up (because luckily everything turned out ok!). Also this makes me nervous because I always thought that as a parent you just *know* if your child is really hurt so it sucks to know you can guess wrong :D I was also sometimes a little dramatic as a child and my dad would always be like nah you're fine. Except for the one time I broke my foot jumping off the bed and he literally scooped me up and took me to the ER, no questions asked. To this day I'm like why didn't he accuse me of faking? I wouldn't have blamed him...
  • @meanjellybean there’s something to be said for dad instincts. I think moms are more likely to think somethings wrong when it’s not. We just worry more. Dads know when something’s actually up.
  • Y’all... so, we had a tornado warning for the area today and think one touched down in our neighborhood. Out of, maybe, 15 homes in the neighborhood, 4 have huge trees on them. Two of our trees broke off at about 30 feet in the air and fell onto our neighbor’s house.
We are so, so lucky! The only damage we had was DD’s solid wood playhouse looks like it was thrown across the yard. It was completely destroyed. The houses across the street and the neighbor behind us weren’t so lucky. It’s like it jumped over our house. (Pics of the play house and our neighbor’s house in spoiler)

  • @blaf322 omg!! So glad you and your family (and property) are ok!
  • @kristinl492 we are so lucky. I’m so glad we were at work and daycare... we were all safer having not been at the house. I also think DD would have been scarred if she’d have been here for that
  • @blaf32 . Oh my goodness.  That is so scary.  I'm glad you guys and your house are ok!  Are you in NC?  A few people from my other BMB were saying how bad things were down there today.
  • @JessDG we are... There were tornadoes touching down alll over the state! We were actually just outside (about 30 mins away) of the area where we were told a tornado touched down so we were shocked when we got home and saw all the damage to our neighborhood

Also, I hate to complain... I’m still counting our blessings.... but they stilll have freakin giant, loud, saws, bobcats and huge lights shining (basically into our bedroom) at 10pm. They’re getting the trees off the neighbor’s house. I totally get why they need to do it but I’m so tiiired! I’m going to be dragging ass at work tomorrow
  • @modoodles I’m dying because my oldest is the same way! She’s SO dramatic! If she notices a little red dot on her thumb from who knows what she’s like hysterical. It’s hard not to roll my eyes. I probably would have done the same thing telling her to stop whining and it actually being serious. Speaking of mom guilt though... when she was 2 1/2 I think she started having night terrors and for days we were up with her for hours but I started noticing that she really didn’t seem awake when we’d go in there so I read about it and it said to give them a few minutes to go back to sleep on their own because they usually aren’t awake and going in can make it worse. So, I decided to try this since we were exhausted and it worked she stopped but about a day or two after she stopped she woke up screaming again and I looked in the monitor and thought she must be having another one so I gave her a few minutes and she went back to bed. Well the next morning I get up to go get her and she’s covered in throw up. Her beds covered. Oh I felt so awful! First time throwing up and I wasn’t there for her. Definitely cried and still feel guilty. Needless to say we stopped doing that and I at least would get up and peak in.

@blaf322 Oh my goodness! So glad you guys are ok!

  • @blaf322 so scary! I’m glad everyone is safe and hope you’re able to get some rest tonight.
  • @blaf322 oh dang! I'm sorry for all the damage around you, and yes, thank goodness you guys weren't home! Scary! Hopefully the lights and chainsaws die down soon so you guys get some rest tonight!
  • @blaf322 that is so scary! Glad you’re all ok and hope you were able to get some sleep!

We had snow yesterday and freezing rain today, so I took yesterday off and then my work is closed today! Wicked happy for an unexpected four day weekend
  • @blaf322 so glad y’all are okay! It was crazy here last night too (savannah, GA) but I feel like NC always gets the crazy weather (we were in fayetteville for Matthew and Irma)
  • @blaf322 Glad the damage for ya'll was relatively minor.  I grew up with lots of tornadoes they are just one of the more random acts of mother nature.
